Every time we go, I'm kind of shocked it's not absolutely packed. This is part of the Foothills Meats family, and if you know their spots (the butcher shop, the food truck, The Grange, etc.), you already know--they don't miss. So we went in the first time pretty confident, and they absolutely delivered. The space itself is great, but the rooftop is the real standout--easily one of the best views in Black Mountain. It's such a good spot to sit, have a drink, and hang out. Speaking of drinks--the bar is excellent. The bartenders have always been great, super easy to sit at the bar and enjoy yourself. They've got a strong liquor selection and fun, well-balanced cocktails. Now the food. Everything we've had has been consistently good, but our last visit really stood out. We shared the pork katsu sandwich, the sweet potato biscuits, and the poutine. The pork katsu was done really well--crispy on the outside, tender inside, with that classic crunch from the cabbage and a slightly sweet, tangy katsu-style sauce. I also really liked that the sauce was on the side so you could control each bite. The sweet potato biscuits surprised us--in the best way. Those are easy to mess up, and these were not. Soft, flavorful, slightly sweet with that savory balance, paired with ham, sorghum butter, smoked cheddar, and red eye gravy--it's a really thoughtful combination that just works. And the poutine... so good. Crispy fries, rich mushroom gravy, and cheese curds that actually hold their texture. It's hearty without being heavy, and every bite felt balanced. For the level of quality they're putting out, the prices are very reasonable--which makes it even more surprising that it's not more crowded. It's right in downtown Black Mountain, but we actually drive all the way from Flat Rock to come here--and it's absolutely worth it every time. Overall, this place just nails it. Great drinks, really solid food, beautiful setting--and somehow still flying a bit under the radar. Definitely worth checking out.

We technically arrived 10 minutes before they opened and just soaked up the views. Finally we meandered inside. Point Lookout Vineyards is the winery, but Top of the World is the meadery. John selected 5 wines & 1 mead for a flight & i went 5 meads with one wine as my flight. We grabbed a glass of water & picked out our seat. We also spring for a 10 inch pepperoni pizza since it was lunch time. 1st- skip the pizza. IMO it didn't match the caliber of the experience in its entirety. Too much like a tostinos frozen pizza. The wine and meads were stellar. I started with Sweet Carolina Girl, a mid- sweet blended red that was bold in flavor, with that rich fruit. Very luscious. Next up, the Orange Blossom Mead, exactly as expected. Velvety mouth feel, bright flavor. The Beguile was next, a raspberry mead- at first sip, I was hesitant to like it. I went around the tasting and came back and liked it much more after the second sip. The Masala surprised me, a Chai tea mead, I'm not usually a fan of Chai tea but I was intrigued by the description. The clove and ginger with the cardamom was delightful. Mimi's Apple Pie was also very yummy, I honestly stay away from most "apple pie" flavors, because it usually never does it justice. This was an exception. Finishing this mead in bourbon barrels sealed the deal. Last & not at all the least was Sting, the classic orange blossom mead fermented with juniper berries, finished in a gin barrel. Startling on the palette. A very unique flavor profile for mead & I loved it! Overall, I absolutely loved my experience! We bought 3 bottles! Sting Mead, the Masala Chai Tea Mead & the Sweet Carolina Girl wine.

For dessert, I highly recommend the ice cream brûlée; it was incredibly delicious and unique. The only minor drawback for me was the cocktail selection, which is limited to just a couple of drinks and a few spritzers. However, they do have a decent wine menu with several great aromatic wine offerings. Because it's a intimate venue with limited seating, you might encounter a wait. We arrived early in the evening, and by the time we left, a line was already starting to form!.

The lounge and music paired with desserts and wine is such a niche and fun vibe! I love the weekly features - especially Monday fixed menu of desserts with a shot of espresso or wine! The blueberry mint ice cream deserves a cult following! It's made with REAL mint and the color is amazing. The truffle balls are both delicious and serves as a charity (sine profit donated to local charity). The cream puff is light but packed with flavor! The late hours draws in a large crowd!! The waitress is so nice and upbeat. I will definitely have to make a trip back or before I head home!!
