Cute little family owned restaurant. We tried the BLT and the Ranch, Turkey Bacon sandwiches. Along with a Vanilla Caramel Latte. All were great.

Was looking for a coffee shop close to my friend's place and I never knew this place existed! I honestly love this place! I got a hot white chocolate drink and a sausage breakfast sandwich with a hashbrown and it was pretty good. The coffee was the star though. I don't know what they did to it but I drank my large coffee in less than 5 minutes and almost drove back to get another haha Try this place out! Looks small on the outside but on the inside it's so cute and has a good amount of space! There also is a reading library while you wait for your coffee and food! Can't wait to try out their specialty drinks!

Their menu. I expected to pay $3.75 + 0.59 for the smallest latte I was offered with 1 pump of flavor.

I really wanted to like this place since it is walking distance from my house, but I had a not so great experience today. I went in and ordered a decaf iced latte with 1 pump of flavoring. She woman showed me two different sized cups, and I chose the smaller one. I then paid (the price seemed really high, but I figured I just miscalculated in my head), but I did click to get a paper receipt so I could check. The worker crumbled up the receipt, but I said that I had actually wanted it. Turns out there were 3 things weird or wrong with how they charged me. First, I was charged for the largest size of drink on the menu, even though I chose the smaller of two options. Second, I was charged for flavor twice. Third, the double flavor cost $1.77 (not 2x $0.59 which would be $1.18). Anyone one of these things is little, but when you combine them all together they charged me $5.87 for a drink that should have been at most $4.34. I don't care about the dollar and change, but I did want to alert this new business to all these mistakes they were making. I can't imagine a business lasting long that habitually has this many issues. I bring it up to the cashier, who tells me 1. the smaller cup was a 'large' and the larger cup was an 'extra large' (whose price is not even shown on the menu). This seems odd to me, but ok. 2. She then says when people ask for extra flavor they charge them twice because they give them 3-4 pumps. This again seems odd, but given that I specifically asked for 1 pump, she did say it was mistake on her part to change me twice. 3. Finally, she says that they don't program the machine, so she has no idea why the double flavor is charging $1.77 (triple cost) instead of $1.18 (double cost). I say ok, I just wanted to let them know, and I go catch up with my friend at a table. Five minutes later the owner comes over, standing right over me with no mask on, and keeps talking to me while handing me 59 cents. I'm super uncomfortable. There is a mask mandate at the moment (on their door they even have a sign about masks being required, which they were apparently ignoring), and I am super pregnant and trying to be careful. I say that I don't care about the change, but I had just wanted to let them know. I think she honestly didn't understand the situation and how they had actually triple-charged for flavor, but either way, I wanted to be away from this unmasked person. I excuse myself to go to bathroom, hoping she would have left by the time I return, but when I get back, she is still there. I ask her if she could put on a mask, or even better if we could end the conversation, and she starts talking about how she is vaccinated. I ask her again if she would put on a mask, and she feels around in her back pocket, then turns around leaves the cafe. I'm not sure if she was going to get a mask or if she finally understand that I didn't need or want to be having this conversation, but my friend and I took that chance to leave. The forced conversation from the owner was honestly the worst part of it all. It was a very uncomfortable situation for me, and she didn't get the hint when I tried to respectively end the conversation. Then when I was direct about ending the conversation or having her put on a mask, it is mind blowing to me that she would continue to talk, unmasked, to me, justifying the situation with her vaccination status.

I stopped by LAJOY at their grand opening this morning. This is 100% a family business! The owner, LaJoy herself, was out greeting the customers and let us know that she ran the cafe with her kids. I did not have to wait long for my pastry once my order was placed. The coffee order took a little longer than I expected, but things were busy for the grand opening, and the owner personally apologised for the wait. I just drink hot drip coffee, and enjoyed that the coffee here wasn't as crazy strong as other shops make it. It tasted great and was not too acidic to cause any stomach issues. If you ever are in the area, check this place out in the heart of Overland. This shop is exactly what the residents of Overland needed. I plan on frequenting the shop for coffee plenty in the future. They already have a rewards app up and running! There were dog treats at the counter and water bowls by the tables outside for pups, so it looks like dogs are more than welcome to hang out with their humans when dining outside.

They seated us at a long table with people at the other end, but we still had ample space. To started our meal, we ordered a hot chocolate and coffee, along with some of the delicious doughnuts. Those doughnuts were scrumptious, and I even made sure to save one chocolate for after my breakfast. For my main course, I opted for the BBLT, which was an enormous sandwich filled with all the classic ingredients: bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, over-easy egg, and aioli. It was served on a wheat bun with breakfast potatoes, making it a hearty and satisfying meal to kickstart my day. We also shared a giant blueberry pancake, which was a complete meal in itself. I'm still reminiscing about that delicious pancake along with everything else and can't wait to return to this place for another delightful brunch experience!

I initially visited this place because it's a rare downtown restaurant with great street parking so I always knew I could find a spot (huge plus!). My first visit I tried the blackberry cheesecake stuffed French toast but It didn't seem like it was truly stuffed with any cheesecake. It had some on top though and the flavor was still great, just a bit dry. I should've gotten a bit of syrup on the side. I washed it down with an iced French toast latte that was crazy good so I ordered one to go. Finally my server was Molli and she was just perfect. Sweet, talkative, and attentive -- oh and to top it off she saved my butt after I left my credit card there. I hope she sees this because I appreciate her! The next two times I visited that week I was craving oatmeal and they delivered in an elevated fashion. Their banana walnut oatmeal is decadent. I love boring oatmeal at home but it doesn't have to be boring. Half & Half elevates this humble dish into an incredibly tasty experience. I can't get oatmeal at other places now! I washed it down with some OJ that was just alright. It doesn't taste like it's freshly squeezed in house like other breakfast spots in Clayton but it's hardly a complaint. I will visit this warm and cozy spot many times over.

The inside is really cute with the hanging flowers, and I loved the light up sign that added to the decor. Another coffee shop would have pretended to have been in business since the 19th century, before the latte was even invented, but not Crema. It's got *integrity*. Anyway, no one would believe that anything here is older than a year or two. It all new-looking. It has a certain sheen to it, like somewhere where you'd pay $40 for a Yankee Candle at Plaza Frontenac. As I arrived today with members of my running group, an unhoused gentleman was being, erm, questioned out front by 12. He may have spent the night in the lobby of this apartment building. It just so happened to be right as Crema was opening. Did they report him to the authorities? Should they have given him a job sweeping the sidewalk out front like the wise old neighborhood drunk in the movie Do the Right Thing, the lovable old James? Instead of bringing him downtown, the police merely confiscated his drugs and sent him on his way. (I hope he wasn't late for work.) I wonder what they do with those drugs. I've seen the movie Bad Lieutenant. I didn't know whether to be disappointed or relieved that this place doesn't carry a burrito. I love a burrito more than I love most people, but maybe this is not the place to get a burrito. But I figured I probably couldn't go wrong with a breakfast sandwich. You can't make a bad breakfast sandwich. Even a Breakfast Jack is a good breakfast sandwich. They certainly charge a premium for their breakfast sandwich. I figured this would be a situation where they charge you money out the ass for hardly any food. I was willing to take the hit anyway, for the sake of citizen food journalism, and also because I'd just run umpteen miles. Come to find out, this thing is roughly the size of a football. Its appearance is more along the lines of a torta, the hefty sandwiches from which portly Hispanic girls get their nickname. Alas, it was just okay. The croissant was ginormous but of middling quality. If it were the same size and as rich as the croissants at Comet Coffee, it would be roughly 10,000 calories, so that may have been for the best. The bacon tasted oddly similar to a Ball Park hot dog, in both a good and bad way. They give you plenty of it, but I suspect they still come out ahead. The eggs would have been fine if they'd been salted. In theory, the salt from the bacon and the cheese would have carried over to the eggs, but I don't know if I have a refined enough palate for that to be the case. I approve of a Breakfast Jack, after all. I'm willing to accept the fact that the Horchata Latte may have just been a bad order on my part. I may have needed to specify some type of syrup so that it was sweeter than it was and I didn't realize that, because what do I know about fancy coffee drinks? Or I might just not like horchata, with which I have minimal experience. They carry a gooey butter cake latte, and I should have gone with that. It was calling my name the way crack calls the guy they called the cops on. Which brings me to the Gooey Butter Cake Edges, which caught my eye in the pastry case, as if my sandwich and drink alone weren't caloric enough. I like gooey butter cake (natch), and I like the idea of "cake edges." Would this be along the lines of those brownies that are all corners? It kinda was, except that the crust wasn't quite as crisp as you'd like it to be. I don't think these were the actual edges of a gooey butter cake. They may have just been leftover cake batter baked into strips. It was still delicious, because it was gooey cake. The actual gooey butter cake may have been better. Again, I'm willing to take credit for what may have been a mistake on my part. Like the lovable old James, we all make mistakes sometimes. Crema has only been around for a few years, so I'm sure it's only a matter of time until they get their few issues ironed out. The decor is already top notch.
