First time here and have been waiting to try it. This place has a great bar ambiance but not sure I would give it much more. Arrived around 6:15 and got a place at the bar. Looked over the menu which I think they need to enlarge for people that have vision issues from age. So looked over their cocktails. They look good and range from $12 - $16 - Chose the old fashioned and the bartender was very attentive and made it promptly. The drink however was nothing great considering the $16 price point. We looked over the menu which I will say was well put together. The bar was annoying as servers came by often and complained about their tables and made other small talk as if we were not even there. We settled for the prime strip and wife for the skirt steak. Both entrees arrived quickly and presentation was very nice. Steaks were cooked perfect but no flavor at all and I mean none. Gray, bland, black and white. Added a bunch of salt to help it but that was just salt at that point. Neighbors at the bar also ordered steak entrees and first bite and I heard - salt! All 3 of them salted their plates so I knew it was not just us. I gave 3 stars because I think they are almost there and could easily be a 5 star place. The chef can obviously cook and judge proper steaks temps they just need to learn to taste their sauces and food and learn to flavor them. I feel the bar can also be great especially when they are charging the prices they are for cocktails. I can get a glass, ice cube and bar of alcohol almost anywhere but a true cocktail is where a great bartender comes in. They should give a small show, hand squeeze the lemon or lime and muddle, stir, etc. Show me why I am spending this much on a few ounces in a glass. In the end - I am on the fence about visiting again. There are many places to get drinks and food around Sarasota and this price point we want to make sure we thoroughly enjoy ourselves not just a so so place. I have no problem spending $150 - $200 for dinner of 2 but give me value and wow me. Not 3 star me. read more

Just went to Post for the first time and it was incredible. The French onion soup was the best I've ever had and my main meal (chicken maderia with gnocchi) was so filled with flavor. Also got a side of Brussel sprouts which were good but could have been crisper with an ideal touch of balsamic *in my opinion*. I had lunch here twice during the Taste of UTC. In the dining area the service was very slow, and it was not busy. However the food was great! I had a salad, salmon and eclair. The second time we sat at the bar and service was spot on, and the food was delicious again. Will definitely be back. read more

Went there around 4:15 with a group of 9 people for their Happy Hour. The place was empty. At around 4:45 pm after we all ordered a drink at the bar, we want to order from the Happy Hour menu. It was difficult to talk to each other at the bar. Once again, the place was empty and there was a long table that would seat all of us, not more than 3 feet away adjacent to the bar. The manager was asked if we could move to the table and he said no. Wow..........he made a bad decision as our group can drink! We left and went across the street to Glory Days which was very good and welcomed us! So many restaurants, so close together, it doesn't make sense to do business with management like that! read more

Went with a friend for the first time for a drink since we were in the area. My drink/cosmo was good and service was good as well. The food is where I was not impressed. Ordered the oysters and the cocktail sauce was not fresh and it was actually frozen with ice chips in it! Never in my life have I ever seen this. Completely grossed me out. It is not difficult to make fresh cocktail sauce and that is how they kick off a Friday night happy hour with frozen sauce? Honestly quite disappointed in this restaurant. Showed up to a dimly lit restaurant without many guests dining. With that being said, service was not what it should've been. Every plate we were served was missing something, not to mention the food came out before the silverware. The food itself was nothing special, overpriced and very generic. Consistently very good. Ambiance is second to none in town. Food is creative and generally very well done; the post board and chicken Madeira were hits on my last visit. Espresso old fashion was also unique and well done. Service was a little slower the last time I visited as they appeared understaffed. This is a nice spot for date night, but be warned: food and drinks are overpriced. The vibes and ambiance are nice though. I tried the Braised Short Rib with Cheese grits ($35) and it was bland. My husband tried the Steak Frites ($32), which was steak, fries, and arugula salad. The fries were the best and most memorable part of the meal. And being that we selected pricier items on the menu, it's sad that $5 fries had the most flavor. it was my birthday yesterday and 8 of us went to The Post to celebrate. Everything about the restaurant is amazing. The ambiance, the food, the service were all top notch. When making the reservation, Marley was one of the managers who I spoke with. At dinner last night, she stopped by our table 3 times to ensure everything was perfect. Caleb our server was awesome. We were excited to try something new but this was a big let down. The burrata grilled pizza tasted like a frozen pizza and the bottom wasn't even crispy. The filet medallions were unlike any I've ever had. It was almost like they sliced a thicker piece of steak and then seared one side of it only. It was flavorless. Thankfully the blue cheese gnocchi was tasty and gave the steak some flavor. The short ribs came with veggies, which included 2 Brussels sprouts and 2 carrots that were raw. The short rib itself was half fat, and did not fall apart as short rib should. Our server brought us a couple of sauces we requested after delivering our meal and then we didn't see her again. No drink refills, no check in. The restaurant was mostly empty and we were seated at the bar which had a few other patrons. We ended up having to ask the hostess to find our server for the check. Not the nice meal we were expecting to have with our family. We ate most of it because it was a pricey meal to leave at the table but we wouldn't go back. read more

Just really not good. I couldn't quite place the taste and then my husband hit it accurately, cigarettes. The skirt steak with chimichurri tasted like cigarettes. The crab and endive was not good and the scallop dish was fair. The only thing we enjoyed was the tuna on crispy rice, that was good. We were enticed by the "Whiskey and Burger" specials for Tiesday. We are fairly new to the area so we thought we would try it. The service from the minute we walked in was fantastic!! The hostess was warm and friendly and our waiter was at the table as soon as we sat down. He tool great care of us and actually checked on us periodically!! The whiskey flights were well thought out and very good and the artisan burgers were cooked perfectly to Medium and very tasty!! We had a great dinner and then a great conversation with the manager who just stopped to talk!! For a fun yet tasty night put I highlybrecommend going to Post!! Service was great, the kitchen was slow and served my wife a raw pork chop and served me raw fish. We sent both back and it came out correctly the second time. The manager came by and apologized and they gave us a free dessert. So if you can get past the raw food the place is not that bad. read more

Checked out The Post on Friday night. Excellent design - very pleasant dinner environment. We prefer to sit outdoors, even though, sadly, you have to look at BJs. We selected specials - In hind sight not a great choice - at $52-person. The appetizers were tasty - albeit only aspiring to be haute cuisine. We had shrimp and polenta & salmon carpaccio. Accurate description, since there was only a single shrimp - presented as if it was some sort of trophy! The salmon carpaccio was tasty, with only very very little salmon. The main dishes were complete failures. We had bison and duck. The bison was very, let's politely say, chewy, so I had to leave 1/2 of it in numerous paper napkins. Gross. How a chef can mess up duck breast is beyond me. All he had to do was render the fat and crisp the skin; sadly, he served the fat blurb under the soft skin. More expensive dinner debris. The desserts - key lime pie & crème brûlée- were fine. Service: lots of people - mostly confused and tentative. They fill your water glasses timely. The waiter was primarily concerned with grabbing his undeserved tip. Chose his time to ask the stupid question of how our food was when we only lifted our fork to eat. He didn't ask again when he saw the mounds of paper napkins filled with inedible food. The wine - cheap selection and heavily overpriced levels. We'd like to give it another chance - perhaps the chef overstretched his skill set with the specials. Maybe. read more
