My husband and I came here for thanksgiving. There was nothing in the advertisement I saw, nor on the online menu that would indicate it, but it was a buffet. The turkey was cold, no one came by to check on us, there were cords everywhere taped under rugs (hazardous for all the over 80 crowd that was there). Dined here last night for Houston Rest Weeks for a girls night and all i can say is i had a better experience 2 years ago. The restaurant looks dated and my friend saw a roach crawling on the wall...a roach, gross!! For $35 pp, there were 4 courses. I had the lamb lollipop teaser, the lobster crab bisque, the flounder filet (should've got the surf n turf) and the strawberry chocolate mousse cake to go (it was a sliver of a piece...grr!). And, they had like a lime infused butter (didn't really care for) and pate for the bread. The service was extremely slow. I should never have to ask for bread to be brought to the table. I came here on a double date not knowing what to expect. But being a true Yelper, I always do my research before entering uncharted territory. I'm very happy that I did. I started my meal out with the highly recommended Red Mojito. It's like a regular mojito with pomegranate juice. Perusing through the menu before hand, I had my eyes on the fillet and crab-cake combo. However, we were informed by our very funny and very helpful waiter Louis that restaurant week had been extended. I was thoroughly excited about this. I've been wanting to go to restaurant week but I was out of town the entire time that it was on. Obviously, our party opted for that menu. Coincidentally, we all chose the same things. We started out with the Heirloom Tomato and Lump Crab Meat Salad. I thought I would crazy for those combos but the dressing was too light and I just ate tomato and pieces of crab separately. The flavors didn't mend well. Then came the highlight of the meal- surf and turf. My fillet Mignon was cooked to my perfect medium rare and the lobster was so rich. Probably the best entree I've had at a restaurant of that caliber in a long time. For dessert, we had the banana foster and duo of creme brulee and chocolate souffle. The duo was just bad. The souffle was burnt and there was no sugar to really break on the brulee. So disappointing. Luckily we also ordered the banana foster which was just heavenly. After 4 or so drinks a- piece, a long conversation with Polo (the owner. chef), and closing out the restaurant, I went home a happy lady. I recommend this place for special occasions. read more

Service at Post Oak Grill is always excellent. The entire staff is very attentive and aim to please. I love to come here during lunch, so decided to check out dinner during HRW, which offers a 4-course meal for $35 - a great deal. They didn't have the initial wine that I choose (wanted a spanish rioja), but were able to recommend a good argentine malbec. I was happy with the wine, but please consider updating your wine list more often. Started with the tuna tower which I thought was very good. The tuna may have been a little over-seared but flavors were great. Next course was lobster and crab bisque which had great lobster flavor but don't expect large chunks of actual crab/lobster meat. Main entrees included land and sea, which was good. The chocolate mousse dessert was nice, but I wish I would have been able to try the bananas foster too. Overall I thought the food was good and I will continue to frequent Post Oak Grill for lunch. read more

Came here for Houston Restaurant Week. I skimmed through a couple of reviews and before I looked at them, I remember seeing an older crowd in the restaurant so I immediately felt like the young one (which one review said was mainly older people). We got seated in a quiet corner with just the cocktail menu. Moments later, our server came by and asked us for our drink order before bringing a wine list. It took awhile for our server to get back and it took even longer to bring the actual food menu. We were really confused as to why they didn't just provide us with the actual food menu in the first place. We were later brought out bread with butter. There was another side next to the butter which tasted like pate to us. We tried to ask the server what it was but she wasn't sure what it was. She said she would ask but never reported back to us, which was pretty disappointing. We figured at a nice restaurant, the wait staff would be more knowledgable on their dishes. Tuna Dome (4/5). The seared tuna with the ginger lemon vinaigrette was absolutely delicious! Seafood Ceviche Tostada (4/5). Very citrusy with a ton of flavor that's not too over bearing. Roasted Lobster Crab Bisque (3.5/5). Very creamy with a spicy touch. Crabmeat Crusted Flounder Fillet (3.5/5). LOVED the mushroom risotto and the french green beans. The flounder lacked a little flavor, but the crabmeat was a great touch to the pairing. Surf and Turf (3/5). The lobster and beef were both pretty bland, but the beef tenderloin were really soft and tender. The lobster was pretty disppointing since it looked like it had a lot of flavor. The potatoes had the right temperature and the right amount of softness and texture. Strawberry Three Color Chocolate Mousse Cake (3/5). Too chocolately and bitter. Wasn't sweet enough. Bananas Foster (3/5). Not bad. The vanilla ice cream was the best. I probably wouldn't come here again. This review is for Thanksgiving day 2021. We had reservations for 1:00 pm, confirmed by telephone the day before, and even though it was a madhouse at the door, we were seated only 5 min late. It was a buffet and the food wasn't terrible. The mystery meat, some kind of beef, was pretty tough and the supposed paella was more rice-a-roni. Some dishes were alright. But the most striking aspect of the experience was the "waitstaff" - the majority of whom spoke not a single word of English and seemed drunk or otherwise incapacitated. They had certainly never been trained. I asked for a napkin 3 times, waiter finally brought me a fork. They were not happy to be there and it showed. The entire restaurant was in chaos. There were not enough utensils in the serving line, so if you wanted a tart or cookie from the desert table, you used your hands. No tongs, no nothing. Sauces were missing. Some of the items ran out quickly and it was only as we were about to leave that replacements arrived. Restaurant was not able to keep the buffet food warm. Employees stood about, unsmiling, unhelpful and clueless. I won't go into the problem I had with the check. Maybe the food is great on a normal day - I hadn't been there since the early 2000s. Went here last Wed for HRW 2011. The place was nice enough (although the decor rather unmemorable), and I very much appreciated the little forked stand they brought to the table to hold my handbag. Nice touch. =) Our waiter was a bit.... weird. Very affected but still attentive without being bothersome. His affect was really just against my personal taste (I confess I'm a bit picky about waiters' personalities in fancy-schmancy restaurants) but I have no complaints about the service he provided. The owner came over twice to say hello and check on us. The food was mediocre. I had the crab cake appetizer that was quite unlike any crab cake I have eaten before. It was more like a potato cake. I can't remember ever tasting a crab cake that was mostly potato. Definitely not recommended. For the entree, I had the surf & turf. The tiny piece of filet was about 4 bites and was cold before I had the first taste. It was also slightly overcooked. The lobster dish was good, but nothing really special. There was one overcooked asparagus spear on the plate & a pile of cheesy potatoes that were also just okay. For dessert, my date and I both had the strawberry chocolate mousse cake. Again, just okay. However, this time it was a huge portion. I didn't care for the flavorless lumps of marinated strawberry in my smooth, creamy chocolate mousse so I picked them out until I got bored with the dish. The four stars are purely based on the food. For atmosphere I would rate it at 3 stars and for service 2 stars. I was a bit reluctant to come here as I was under the impression that it was stuffy and full of cigar smoking octogenarian oilmen making backdoor deals. Not quite as bad as I thought albeit pretty close. The food on the other hand really exceeded expectations. The bread that they brought us was really good - probably a bad thing since I kept eating those empty calories. I had the Sautéed Flounder Fillet, topped with sun dried tomatoes, black olives and an artichoke caper sauce the ingredients complemented each other and the flavor was awesome. My GF had the Grilled Wild Salmon over sautéed spinach. The salmon was perfectly grilled and the flavor was outstanding. The ingredients used were fresh and the taste innovative. No dessert since I filled up on bread before I got started. Besides the food the only other thing that was memorable was the snooty service. While the waiter or at least his lackey did manage to serve us - he seemed rather perturbed at the inconvenience of having to do so. I can best describe the waiter as a professional waiter (i.e. not a transitional job for a student or other person with higher aspirations) who does not like to wait on people. Regardless of whether or not you are bothered by stuffy places and snooty service - the food is excellent and worth coming for. read more

I went to this restaurant for restaurant month yesterday. I was very disappointed about the food and size for the cost. I didnt expect the appetizer portions to be massive but nor did I expect them to be little bit bigger than the size of a quarter. Both the taco and dessert were this size. I had the grilled chicken as my main meal. The chicken smelled like tap water and tasted both like tap water and metal. However, the one highlight was the service. That would be why I give it two stars. The waiter was fantastic, he always checked on us and made sure everything was perfect. read more

5 stars for the staff! We held a meeting of about 60 people & I couldn't have asked for better help, especially from their server Shawn. He helped move things around, got everything technical in order, & was super fast & friendly. I could tell all the wait staff waited & watched for our break times & change in speakers to come out & bring food, drinks, etc. They looked at our agenda & worked around us. They even accommodated to let us start our meeting at 9:30 am well before they opened. That is customer service! I would give 4 stars for the venue in the area we held our meeting because it was near the bar & kitchen area. You just can't help the noise from machines & dishes, so not much they could do. Other customers had to walk through the back & a few were loud & distracting. The venue was remodeled recently, so I would have closed off the whole room. Other than that they have several other really nice meeting rooms. Also, they do need more bathrooms to accommodate large meeting groups. However, I will definitely come back & plan more meetings there. The owner/chef is very hospitable & the food was amazing! Definitely worth the cost. read more

Made reservations with a friend for HRW. When I arrived, waited about 10 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge us waiting. The hostess seemed very confused. We were seated and waited 45 minutes before a waiter came to our table. And this was only because we were getting up and ready to leave due to lack of service. I've never almost walked out of a restaurant! Our waiter was very kind and pleaded with us to stay, so we did. The food was ok but took a long time between courses. I don't think this is the norm based on other reviews. There was a big party in the back and it seems like they were short staffed or not well coordinated. Regardless, besides the waiter, no one apologized or addressed the poor service. The waiter did comp our drinks which was nice. But I would have expected more in general for this place. read more

Yes! Stellar food. Superior service. Great people. Easy parking. It's been ages since I've been here. Last night I had the ahi tuna salad; but I was also salivating over the dishes I saw other patrons served. Each dish was meticulously plated and presented in an upscale manner and looked just plain delish. The wait staff was extremely attentive. I can most assuredly say that I've never had a bad meal there, though the food seems to have risen to a higher level. No complaints from me, except that I can't eat there 7-days a week! I called in April 2019 several weeks before my birthday on May 19 th and asked to have a reservation for 12 people on May 18 which was a Saturday to hear the Van Lang band while we celebrate my birthday . After I discovered the band was there on May 17 Friday I called back the next day and asked that my reservation be changed to May 17 so we could hear the Van Lang band. They told me no problem and would seat us not far from the band and they said they had my reservation confirmed for May 17 at 8 pm. I talked to a guy . I called again on may 16 to say we were still planning on coming and wanted to make sure my reservation was still set and the girl told me yes everything was set for 12 people on May 17 near the band Van Lang. On May 17 I called again at 4:30 pm to say we would be there that evening at 8 and I wanted to be sure our table would be ready. Again they said everything was set and I asked if I had a couple of cancellations from my guest should we change the number of seats or leave it for 12 people and the girl said just leave it set for 12 so I said ok. At 7 pm on Friday May 17 I called the restaurant to say I was on my way and wanted to make sure all was ok for our table and I was told they had no reservation for me and my guests!!!! I said I am on my way and so are my guest so how can they say they don't have my reservation when I called several times to confirm our attendance ! The guy hung up in my face! I called back and tried to talk to someone and the guy said they didn't have room ! I arrived at 7:46 pm at the restaurant with my guests and they had given our table to another party ! They then took us to another area totally away from the band behind some doors and sat us out in a closed in patio area where we were no where near the band or dance floor which was one of the reasons why o wanted to celebrate my birthday there so we could enjoy the band and dance ! I was very disappointed to say the least . The host came over and said they had my reservation still set for May 18 instead of May 17 so whoever took the calls that I made to change the reservation when I called way back in April never took the time to change my reservation by writing it down or either they just ignored my request . This was very embarrassing for me and my guests and to seat us behind a closed door on a patio when I specifically requested that I wanted a table set up in the lounge area by the band so that we could dance to Van Lang's music as they played was inexcusable! We have frequented the post oak grill on several occasions and paid lots of money there in the past and to be treated this way was terrible. I would highly suggest that you do not book a party there and I wouldn't spend a dime there as they aren't professional. They kept on asking me who did I talk to. It's a shame that the people who take the calls can't do their job properly and get reservations right . It was a Shame the way we were treated ! Also only valet parking is available which is a sham . They rushed us to eat and they swept while we ate and when we were finished eating they started coming to our table and moving our things at 10 :30 when they don't close till 11 pm and I noticed some of the gifts my guests brought were sat under the table so when we left the waiter kept the gifts! How rude! Rude employees ! Van Lang is a good band good though . It's a shame the employees ruined our evening . They should have been trying to offer something for the mixup that they caused by not changing the reservation when I asked and did not seat us where I requested instead of behind closed doors where we sat by ourselves away from everyone else . I booked a very special birthday party for a good friend who really wanted to be in a specific VIP Room. So, 3 weeks in advance I made the reservation with the owner-chef of Post Oak grill and was confirmed in that VIP room. Yet, just days before the birthday party, the Post Oak Grill Party Planner, Claudia, emailed me to say that the owner-chef had bumped our party out of the VIP room for his personal "VIP friend." What! Claudia did not even offer our birthday party anything to make up for this unprofessional and abrupt change! Needless to say, we are not going to have our party at a restaurant which does not care about its customers or customer service. I will never be going back to Post Oak Grill again! read more

I'm basing this review on service, not the food. A friend and I came here for HRW on September 1st, since they extended their HRW menu through Labor Day. They also offered 4 courses, which was appealing. When we got there, we waited to be seated. Large groups of people kept streaming past us and they were being greeted and seated, but the restaurant was relatively empty and there were plenty of smaller tables available, so we wondered why there was a wait. The hostess kept providing mindless chatter while we waited, but made no attempt to see us, even though we could see a sea of empty tables. We finally asked her, after waiting for about 15 minutes, how much longer was the wait, at that point a table (which had been empty the whole time) miraculously became available. We were seated and our waiter came and asked for our drink orders. The cocktails arrived at a decent time, we received bread/butter/pate, and our entire order was taken. It seemed that things were getting better after the wait for seating. Wrong. We didn't see our waiter again until the 1st course was delivered, even though there weren't many tables full. At this point, I was sucking on the ice left over from my water glass because it hadn't been filled since we sat down. I expected him to refill it after our course arrived, but he didn't. I finally flagged him down again halfway through the 1st course, to ask for a refill. It was pretty much this game of cat and mouse on the water glass refills for the duration of our meal. He only asked once if we needed anything else, and generally wasn't very attentive. There was also a lull between courses, so by the time the main course arrived, we asked if we could receive our dessert to-go because we needed to leave. The desserts were unceremoniously placed in Styrofoam containers, placed in a cheap plastic bag...my dessert was upside down. Pathetic. As far as the food is concerned, it was decent. I wasn't impressed with the bread selection, but the biscuits were a highlight. The portion sizes of the 1st and 2nd course were painfully small, but they made up for that with a decent sized entree. I ordered the surf & turf and my friend ordered the flounder, and we were both pleased with that. Unfortunately, we were coming off of a more than stellar experience at The Capital Grille the week before, and the Post Oak Grill just didn't cut it.
