Cute diner vibe with manhole sized pancake. Potatoes are worth the trip! It's nice there's a small parking lot on the side as well, if you're lucky you can snag a spot

We stopped at the Potato Shack for breakfast after a fun weekend in San Diego. I had French toast and bacon. My wife had the BLT and LOVED it. Our friend got the "Manhole-size" pancake. The food quality was fantastic and we all really enjoyed it. As a person who grew up in Encinitas, it was great to be back again and to enjoy some high quality food with good friends.

Good place to have breakfast and lunch. I ordered the two egg breakfast with 2 bacon and sausage patty with wheat toast and potato patties, bc they don't have hash browns. Breakfast was good with plenty of food. But Potato Shack should invest in hash browns. Wife got biscuits and gravy with steamed eggs and home fry potatoes. The service was very good and friendly. The waitress brought us salsa which was very good. Overall, I recommend this place for breakfast.

    Perfect lunch spot!

Right off the main street towards the sough end of Encinitas, this little gem serves great food with really good service. Today i had the turkey burger and homemade fries. Fantastic and not bad for you. It is all so fresh, can't imagine how good breakfast must be... bit I'm sure other Yelpers have posted so always trust Yelp. I guess my favorite part of this place is easy parking and its quiet. Good little find!

We hadn't been here for years, and it was fun to come back for Sunday brunch after church. Limited street parking. Indoor and outdoor seating, you'll get seated faster if you say "first available". We were seated outside where luckily the sun was out warming us up. Breakfast and lunch served all day. I didn't catch our server's name, but she was very attentive and busily dashing from table to table to make sure all her customers were satisfied. We ordered a steak and eggs, a BLTA with fries, eggs over hard with bacon, and huevos rancheros with a side manhole choc chip pancake. The salsa on the side of the huevos rancheros was sufficiently spicy but the huevos rancheros themselves were rather bland. All other meals were yummy and satisfying.

Potato shack is an american breakfast restaurant that serves a variety of typical breakfast foods such as pancakes, omelets, eggs benedicts, etc. They also have bottomless potatoes depending on your order! Yum. For those who may not feel enticed for breakfast food, they also have a lunch menu with sandwiches and others! Important to note they everything is cash/venmo only which is a bummer for me. Service was great! Our waiter checked on us plenty of times. There are both indoor and outdoor seating as well. Park on the streets!

This restaurant had your classic dinner vibe and good food to match! The manhole pancakes are no exaggeration and are absolutely HUGE. I came with a very big group and the staff was super accommodating.

Such a cute place and excited I found it. Their biscuits and gravy hit the spot and their potatoes were perfectly seasoned. If I am back in the area, I will definitely go again. Definitely worth it.

Meeting with family, most from San Diego County. All the dishes looked delicious. My chicken sandwich with kitchen fries was outstanding. Talked with Scott who knows the family from years of patronage. Beautiful day to sit outside.Steve and Randy hadn't arrived yet when photo was taken.

We arrived at 10 on a Saturday, they were extremely busy and short staffed. However, we were seated in 20 minutes and got our food in 15! The waiter was extremely nice and apologized for the delay. The food was a bit on the pricier side, with the exception of the massive pancake, but delicious overall. I would definitely return in the future.

Mahi sandwich and club . Optional sides fruit, broccoli. And always great potato's.

Food is great, and large portions. So many options to suit most diet restrictions. Indoor and outdoor seating. Service is quick and efficient. Breakfast , brunch or lunch. CASH ONLY ATM ON SITE. Awesome local spot for friends, teams and family to meet.

This was half of the breakfast burrito. It was delicious, we sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the morning. Service was excellent and our coffee was full. Love this place and will definitely be back!

And our server was fantastic. So why, you might ask, only 4 stars in my review. Two reasons: 1). Management has prohibited giving a splash of a beer for someone to sample. Bottom line is that I wanted to order a pint of beer, but I wanted a splash of a couple of beers to try to make my decision. They refused, saying that one must buy a 5oz taster if one wants to taste the beer. I find that policy offensive. In the end I bought a taster to taste the Chuuurch, and then bought an additional pint after. It just seems nickel and dimey, and would be asking to an ice cream place not allowing one to sample their ice creams before buying a cone. I hope management reconsiders this policy. 2. My wife got the Hot Mess Fries and was disappointed not only in the flavor, but also in the misleading advertising. On the menu it specifically said that there was bacon in the fries, but in fact what they put on the fries was either chunks of ham or "Canadian bacon" (which as we all know is a very different thing from "bacon"). If they were or of regular bacon, the kitchen should have told the server this so he could have asked her if she wanted ham as a substitute. And, of they always use ham instead of bacon, them the menu needs to be changed to reflect that.

The menu was focused around a fresh bluefin tuna the restaurant obtained that day. The way chef prepared the different courses was unique and really let the blue fin be the star of the show. I think this is a regular occurrence. When the doors open, everyone rushes to get bar seating, which is first come, first served. At the front desk, we checked-in and they sat us at a table in the main dining room. I let it slide since we didn't want to get the Happy Meal anyway, but also wouldn't get any happy hour drink prices. We ordered: * Berry Hot & Bothered - $18 * Societe Bulbous Hazy IPA - $10 * Beef Carpaccio - $29 * Ode-to-Swan - $34 * Johnny Cake & Caviar - $29 * Half-Baked Red Snapper - $48 * Peaches, Peaches, Peaches - $18 * Butter Me Up - $17 The cocktails were fine. Butter Me Up was the best (an espresso martini). The beer was good. The Peaches and Berry drink were very mediocre. Server did get us two small glasses of champagne for our anniversary which was a nice touch. The Beef Carpaccio was amazing. There is a TON of breadcrumbs so if you inhaled, you'll choke. But the flavor was fantastic. Would order again. The Ode-To-Swan reminded me of the Spanish Sashimi at Valentina. Only they put a metric TON of chives on it so you can't even see the fish. This is a huge mistake. The dish was okay but all I tasted was chives. I love sashimi but would not order this again. The Johnny Cake was good but way too sweet! It's basically a thick pancake with caviar on top. The caviar was very savory and the sea bass rillete underneath was smoky. I loved the flavor combination but we could not finish the dish. The half-baked fish was phenomenal. A stunner. Even with the foggy eyeball staring at you. Soo good, I only wished there was more of that sauce on the plate. Even at $50, I would order this again. Total was $270 after tip. They add a 4% surcharge on the bill which is not great. I would come here again but skip the cocktails. Go to SAGO across the street instead for some banger cocktails. Parking was sparse. Street level only. We had to park a block away but the walk was not bad. It was 69° so the weather was perfect. Service was good but our server was clearly trying to get us to order more food. We did not need a second entree or a plate of carrots or potatoes. I would come back, mostly to try new dishes. The food is expensive but interesting in a way you don't know what something will taste like. Please ditch the chives on the sashimi!

I grabbed an Uber after work on a Thursday and headed north 11 miles. As I arrived at the Fish Shop, I could smell the goodness inside and saw the line waiting to order. The restaurant is on one side, with an open bar on the other. Ordering is as simple as 1, 2, 3. Pick your fish, pick how you want to consume it (plate, sandwich, salad), and pick your sides and drink. I went with my work colleagues recommendation of a blackened sea bass sandwich with onion rings and a Marg. That choice was FANTASTIC!!! You seat yourself once you order and place the buzzer given to you by the counter person on the unit on your table. Although busy, there were still tables available (bar and restaurant, plus out front). As the NBA playoffs were on, I sat inside. Everyone working here was friendly and as I already stated... my meal was the best I had on this San Diego visit. A bonus was a gorgeous sunset just 3 blocks down from the shop. I will be back to Encinitas Fish Shop when I next visit San Diego.

All the food was fresh and delicious! There was quite a long line out the door but it moved relatively fast and there was plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. But I was able to grab a seat facing out the sidewalk to enjoy my lunch!

We came during lunch, the Italian sub was skimpy on meat and fillings, the falafel burger was just okay, and only the garlic fries were amazing. If costs are rising, just update the menu prices transparently like a respectable place. Hiding behind a vague surcharge feels deceptive and cheap--it ruined the whole experience. Later we found the surcharge listed at the bottom of the dinner menu. But not on our lunch menu. Are we supposed to scour the menu looking for nonsense fees?
