Had a layover at Dulles quite early in the morning. Was happy to see some places were open and opted to get a breakfast sandwich at Potbelly. All of the servers were super friendly and after looking at the prices, I was surprised at how cheap some of the items were, considering we were in an airport. I ordered the sausage, egg, and cheddar cheese breakfast sandwich on a bagel. The egg didn't taste fake like McDonalds and the bagel was toasted perfectly. Overall a really good bagel for around $4. Definitely a price you can't beat when looking for food at 6 a.m. in the morning at the airport. read more

This place is just about as good as you can for a sandwich shop at an airport. All ingredients are super fresh and delicious. And the prices are just as good in comparison to airport prices. Sandwiched average abt $7 for a small 6 inch sub where most other places at the airport run abt $10+ and not as fresh and tasty. Feels like a good southern sandwich shop. Had the turkey club abc was impressed to see that the turkey was actual roasted turkey pieces rather than turkey cold cut which looked tender and delicious. They also used applewood bacon. I have to say I was quite impressed. I chose the coffee shake and loved it. Creamy coffee flavor and not too sweet. And the kicker... they placed 2 tiny butter cookies through the straw which gave it an extra special touch and an added little treat. When it comes to airport food, potbelly is a welcome sight. The food is fresh, the sandwiches tasty, and is not overpriced (thank you for that). There are are plenty of choices to please any picky eater from their standard sandwich combinations, salads, soups, and even the option to go completely custom if you really needed that option. Freshly made desserts are also in abundance with several different types of cookies (sugar, oatmeal chocochip, choco brownie) and creamy shakes! Potbelly is always my first choice when I'm flying out of Terminal D, the food travels well for long flights and leaves you pleasantly full. read more

The world has come a long way since Subway sandwiches was introduced to the world in the late 80's- early 90's. Now looking back I can't believe I thought Subway was so amazing! Since those days there's Jimmy John's, Firehouse Subs, Jason's Deli, Panera Bread, Earl of a Sandwich, Quiznos, Atlanta Bread Company, Jersey Mikes etc. You get the picture. So it was to my surprise I had never tried Potbelly. Waiting in line, I had no idea as to what to order? So I asked the guy behind me. He said "go with a large Italian, you can't go wrong it's 880 calories!" So I went with a large Italian. With the works for toppings it was over 1000 calories. But holy sweet Son of a gun it was cracking good. I'd compare it similar to an Italian sub I've had at Jimmy John's before. delicious doesn't quite explain it well enough! If you watch calories like my wife does don't eat here. If you don't care and/or once in a while indulge in good food go bananas (like a hungry baboon)! They are damm good sandwiches! I wish in Canada we could have more American sandwich chains like these. A sandwich is the ultimate airport food option. Only Burritos an/or sushi compare. However I wouldn't wait on sushi long! I am a big fan of getting the Farmhouse Salad before getting on the flight. This salad has some of everything I want. Bacon, chicken (I ask for double), blue cheese, and add avocado. It is a reasonable price and much better than anything I am getting on the plane. Add a Nantucket Nectar and I am good. What did I learn today? Make sure to pick up silverware and napkins. Cyndy's Bottom Line: A decent sandwich for the plane ride. Stopped in for a breakfast sandwich for the plane ride. You have a choice of bread either flat bread, a bagel or while wheat. There are several toppings to choose from to include avocado at an additional cost. The sandwiches are toasted too. Somehow it makes for a good sandwich. I made a stop here during my layover to Dubai. There wasn't a good variety of food places in this part of the airport and Potbelly seemed like the best option! They offer a good variety of soups and sandwiches, and I ordered the roast beef sandwich! I wanted my sandwich on the spicy side, so I asked for extra peppers in mine! It was so good with the roast beef sandwich. Price is also okay considering it is an airport location. I was given the impression that I would be in and out of this place in a quickness since their counter setup is similar to Subway's/Quizno's but they were actually pretty slow, that a line formed right behind me cause they took long with toasting my bread. It also took them awhile to finally ask for my toppings of choice and even after that I stood there for awhile until someone finally shows up at the register so I can pay, lol. Flew in from Los Angeles and had some time to grab some lunch before my connecting flight. There was a gentleman who was taking orders up front and I told him that it was my first time there and asked what he recommended. I got the turkey club with the hot peppers and Wow was a pretty amazed at how good the sandwich tasted. It had a very spicy kick to it and the toasted bread added that nice crunch to each bite. I was a little bummed that I decided to go with the half sandwich and soup combo instead of getting the whole sandwich. I'm never quite as big of a fan of Potbelly as I think I'm going to be, but for a quick meal in the airport, it does the trick. Employees were friendly, and my sandwich was made quickly. I've had the meatball sub in the past at other locations and enjoyed it, but decided that would be too messy of a meal to eat on the plane or at the gate, so I opted for the tuna salad. The tuna salad is decent, and thankfully does NOT have pickle relish in it, but it's not as flavorful as I'd hoped for. But the bread is good, it's not terribly priced even with the captive audience of past-TSA travelers, and it's fast. I have no complaints. read more

I was hungry and had some time during a layover at Dulles airport in the "C" concourse. I looked at my options and thought that I'd try Potbelly given that I'd heard of the chain but had never been. Despite it being at the very end of the concourse and far from my gate, I made the trek. It was definitely worth it. I had an Italian sandwich with almost everything on it, a bottle of water, a bag of chips, and a "dreambar" (think chocolate chip cookie square with gooey caramel). It really hit the spot and only cost ~$10 in total, which is very reasonable for an airport. I've paid ~$8 for a yogurt parfait at my home airport, SFO, which is pretty ridiculous. I definitely need to check out a standalone Potbelly when I see one next. read more

I stumbled upon this place while connecting through Dulles between LA and Charlotte. Having just moved from Chicago, seeing a potbelly was a sight for sore eyes. Seeing that the prices weren't insanely steeper than normal (welcome to eating at the airport) and they had no problem making me a strawberry oreo shake at 715am, i think this is hands down the best place to grab your breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I've been avoiding going to Pot Belly for about 5 years, mostly because I it's called Pot Belly and I'm trying to avoid having a Pot Belly as there is very little room in airports to do your yoga stretches, or at least to do the stretches without looking like a person who does those weird leg raises against the garbage can while you're chowing down on m&ms. It's no wonder every concourse in IAD has one of these and that they thrive. Dulles is noticeably free of the roadside fast food staples. Not even a Quizno's or a Subway... And that's just fine because they have Potbelly! If you know this chain, it's the usual format: choose a sandwich original, big or flat, choose toppings and then pay. They have one of these in downtown Seattle, but ironically my first Potbelly sandwich came from Washington district not state and from an airport to boot. But that's okay too because it was Great! I ordered a grilled chicken with cheddar on flatbread with tomatoes for $6 and $1 more for avocado. They hand it to you neatly wrapped and warm. They use real chunks of grilled chicken breast, tomatoes that are thinly sliced which works so much better without chunks of tomato squirting out the sides, the avocado tastes perfectly ripe and the flatbread is both soft and crusty dotted with sesame seeds. Amazingly, the crew is friendly, which is just plain bizarre by concessions standards. However, the concourse B location just opened by gate 46 so time will tell if the smiles endure. I hope so! This warm inviting shop is a pure win among its 3 star neighbors and looks as fresh as the ingredients taste. read more
