Potbelly Sandwich Shop has definitely grown on me. In my initial experience with them, I ordered a sub for delivery. For whatever reason, I wasn't expecting it to be toasted and I don't think I figured out the online ordering well because it was very plain. The last couple of times, I've been in house and have enjoyed the experience. First of all, their subs are primarily meant to be toasted. I really love their tuna and swiss with all the fixings (including, for a small fee, avocado). It's great! Their subs come in three sizes, skinny, original, and big. I typically get the original, which is still plenty big! Their set up is order at the counter and then move on down the line. Instead of having all the condiments visually in front of you ala Subway, they have a list of what you can get on your sandwich and you just let your sandwich maker at the second stop know (the first stop, you just tell them the sandwich, size, and bread type). They don't have quite as many veggie options as other chains to top your sandwich with but they have enough to give your sandwich a little veggie oomph. All in all, a great spot to stop for a quick sandwich. Get to it! read more

If I could be best friends with the staff here, I would! Location is conveniently located, has ample parking, and offers a large seating area! The menu is varietal without being overwhelming. Having everything made to order with that level of customization really shows the freshness of their food. Their rewards program is great and offers easily achievable rewards. Everyone was so friendly and kept the place tidy and running well. We went around a normal lunch hour, and we didn't experience any sort of wait. It was calm and enjoyable to dine in. I really like the sandwiches here. Very creative and tasty. Nice convenient location right on Bluemound road. You can order online and grab and go or just stay for lunch. Downside, on the expensive side. At the end of the day, it's still just a sandwich. I know inflation has made things more expensive but remember what it is you're trying to sell and price it accordingly. I would like to eat here more often but it's the prices that keep me away. Today I had to visit an old friend, when I lived in Chicago and Potbelly's was a single location on Lincoln ave it was a good weekend when we had a sandwich and a shake. Since moving and them franchising I have not been back much so today I would lunch here. The Brookfield location was packed with a line on Saturday afternoon for lunch so that's a good sign. I'm going to get my favorite, the Italian hot minus the shake. You can top your sandwich any way you want, I say everything for all. The sandwich is just different enough to separate them from all the other franchises out there. The sandwich is tasty on fresh bread with a chew to it but it's not very bready like other chains. For me the mayo, mustard and pickles combination with the other toppings is what I like about the sub sandwich. If you have never had one, you need to try one and you will understand what makes them different from other chains. Oddly enough my experience vs the Capitol Dr location was better because the Capitol Dr sandwich was less meaty and bread vs meat ratio was like 95 % bread vs meat, see my pictures because the same sandwich looks completely different and why I was in no hurry to go back to Potbelly's in WI. read more

I've heard a lot of positive things about Potbelly and finally got a chance to try it out when I notice it introduced the Cubano, the famous Cuban sandwich. I've seen many a cooking shows, YouTube how to and even a movie expressly about the virtues of making this delicious sandwich and thought a sandwich shop should be able to master this easy peasy. I ordered the Cubano with multi grain because I'm on a health kick. And perhaps that was my mistake. Traditionally a Cuban Sandwich is on a white bread roll that's pressed to a crispy, buttery, delicious goodness. I didn't feel this was a good execution. Hugely disappointed. Next time I will try the traditional white bread and see if it's me or PB's take that's the problem. read more

The first Potbelly I visited was in Baltimore, and I've been a fan ever since. This location in Brookfield is nice. The dining room is pleasant and so is the outdoor seating as long as the weather cooperates. I've been here twice this trip. First time I got roast beef original size with provolone, and it didn't seem to have enough meat. So this time I asked for extra meat and there is enough now. I changed up the cheese and got cheddar, but preferred the provolone. There is a double meat option and I think that would be too much! read more

While in Brookfield we went online to read the menu. My brother in law (BIL) said that they are known for subs and sandwiches. We were able to order on line too and was able to get our sandwiches for pickup. I find that my order was just perfect, my sister had a chicken salad that was HUGE. My BIL had the meatball sub. Just watched the staff handling an obnoxious customer. The management should be proud, they remained composed and professional. The whole time the young man was asking about what items were wanted on each of sandwich, the customer replied with untrue remarks, such as the customer seeing the meat coming from the fryer 20 minutes ago. This customer was is front of me, with 2 young boys. The 2 boys watching this guy take out his issues on the staff is what bothered me the most. Staff here is friendly! Normally I love coming to Potbelly's, but my experience yesterday made me question if I want to come here again. I had the mushroom melt - which sounded awesome. What I got was a flattened, tiny little scrunched up sandwich. I normally don't complain about anything at Potbelly's, but the sandwich I got yesterday was pretty disappointing. When it comes to sandwhich shops, I have to hand it to Potbelly's for their consistency. Both the Bluemound shop and the the 124th st shop have good, quick service. Today, I went in during lunch hour, I saw the line close to the door and almost second guessed eating there. But they had a staff member working through the line grabbing orders. The line moved very quickly and the orders were accurate. He even recognized and remembered my friend's order who seemed to be more of a regular. The sandwich itself comes out of their toaster melting the ingredients nicely on the toasted bread. I've always been a fan of the roast beef and mushrooms. They have plenty of toppings to pick from and it's all displayed in big print behind them on the wall, making it easy to pick from. Also, they offer shakes, something you won't see at Cousins or Subway. They are usually pretty good, they seem a little thick and the straws are too weak though. But overall, it makes for a good combination. They also have bottled sodas and other drinks to pick from. If I may make one more suggestion, grab one of their dessert Dream Bars. That is one of the highlights of my trip there. read more

They stood behind the counter and ignored us while we were standing there for several minutes, and when I finally asked if anyone was available to help us, they told told us they wouldn't be able to help us for a while because they were too busy preparing an online delivery order for a family that was supposedly highly allergic to everything (but apparently not so allergic as to get up off their butts and come in the store themselves to be absolutely sure things were prepared to their health needs). When I pointed out it was bad customer service to prioritize online orders over customers who made the effort to drive there and come into the store, they didn't care, and still wouldn't help us, so we left. I emailed the corporate office and let them know how this store operates. I haven't been back there since, nor will I ever go back there unless and until this issue is resolved appropriately. read more

Employees were busy and avoided eye contact, except order taker. Only one couple ahead of me, no other customers in restaurant. Kept waiting quite a while for order to be prepared, another long wait to pay. Tables were dirty throughout restaurant, took four attempts to find a place to eat. Many used napkins in center of seating area on the floor. My chicken salad salad had no croutons and very little cheese and dried cranberries . It was a very disappointing experience. I shan't compare Potbelly to the other sub chains, because for me, they all serve a different purpose. You know, cheap and fast vs. healthy vs. tasty bread vs. warm sub, etc. Do I over analyze my food selections too much? For me, Potbelly serves the hot sub and shakes purpose. I don't like anyone else's hot subs at all, so if I want a warm sandwich, I'm coming here. Also, I find the portion sizes here to be much more appropriate compared to some of the competition. I always end up full on the regular sized subs. But the shakes. Oh the shakes. I think they're made with Hershey's syrup and vanilla ice cream, but gall darnit I don't care. I love them. They are excellent consistency, tasty, and they come with a cute little cookie on the straw. Sometimes I come here just for a shake. I personally like the Wreck, but I've never been in the presence of someone who didn't like their sandwich from here. The service is almost always excellent. They ask you questions about what you want on your sandwich like they actually care and they often actually smile at you. Crazy, right? I've also never witnessed an execution error on a specialty order. It's a zoo in here at lunch time every day of the week, and even more so when there's live music in the corner (Friday lunchtime maybe?), but you can always take it to go. I had never heard of Potbelly... well except for the one I'm sporting right now. I've been twice now and I think I really like the place. First of all the staff are always so friendly and respectful. The first time I went, the place was dead, and I was just waiting for my sandwich to make it through the oven, so the girl behind the counter just started talking to me and you would've thought that we had known each other for years. They had a specialty sandwich on my first visit... a Chicken Mediterranean sandwich. Delicious... especially with the hummus! The second trip I made... it was dead again. It sounds like it is a popular place, but I must always hit it at odd times... Anyway I had the pizza sandwich. It was also delicious, but I guess I didn't realize that the hot peppers is actually more like giardiniera because I had some very spicy carrots and peppers. And it is SPICY! I wish it was a bit closer to me, but I try to stop in if I'm doing some errands out in Brookfield. I think the prices are reasonable... the menu is a little on the slim side, but then again you could make your own sandwich. This is also a place I would go to for a specific sandwich... Kudos to the staff who, from the beginning of the pandemic, consistently have worn masks and enforced masking guidelines for all customers as soon as they step inside. Terrific selection of sandwiches, with very good bread and fresh, tasty ingredients. Not a big fan of the salads. Potbelly is a great place to stop in for lunch when you're in a hurry. The menu is stocked full of options for soups, sandwiches and hearty salads. I've never had a meal that I was disappointed in here. My favorite is the Mediterranean Chicken Salad or the Turkey Sandwich. They recently introduced a gyro flat bread which is also delicious! The other day after a meeting in Brookfield I was going to stop and get a sandwich at a well known local sub shop. When I got there I noticed the Potbelly Sandwich Shop and decided to give them a try, I'd never been there before. It seemed dimly lit upon my entry and has a nice casual atmosphere... not quite what I expected, in a good way. The dining area is clean and offers both tables and large booths spaced in such a way to give one privacy without being rigid. It was slow when I got there, just before the dinner rush so I had plenty of time to examine the menu board. The options are somewhat limited and there are only two choices of breads but it's enough to find something everyone will enjoy if you don't eat there often. At the first stop you order your sandwich, the attendant makes it and puts it in the toasting machine. While it progresses through you are faced with a selection of chips (they have Zapp's which is a New Orleans favorite of mine). Your sandwich then comes out to the attendant who dresses it with your choice of fixin's, lettuce, tomato, onion, hot pepper, mayo, oil, pickles, wraps it and passes it off to the cashier... similar to other well known places. The big thing that makes Potbelly unique is that they have milkshakes, ice cream and some really spectacular looking baked goods. Potbelly has very good sandwiches. I really enjoy the pizza sub, the marinara is very fresh and the mushrooms are delicious. The PBJ, which is no longer on the menu, is still available. It's like a hush hush menu item, reserved only for those who know. I really enjoy the PBJ as dessert. They changed the size of the sub, and the "original" size seems smaller than it used to be. Oh well, it's under $5 so that is still a pretty good deal. The cookies are to die for. This location has shakes and ice cream. For a very small price, you can get and ice cream sandwich made with their monster cookies...That has sugar high written all over it. read more
