A friend of mine recently moved to Wauwatosa, and I wanted to take her out to lunch on a Thursday someplace a little nicer than the normal lunch spot, since we were celebrating her move to her new place. I searched on Yelp and came across Parkside 23. It sounded perfect. When we pulled into the parking lot, it was very crowded. I called in to the restaurant to make sure they'd have room for us, and was told that yes, they had just had a cancellation for a table for two, so come on in. We did, and we were seated almost immediately. From the minute we walked in the restaurant, everything was perfect. Hostess Heidi was lovely, our server Sara was amazing, and the food was incredible. My friend had the meatloaf, and crème brûlée for dessert. She said both were great. She's not a drinker, but did have a couple Shirley Temples, which were perfect. I have the pretzel crusted veal with spaetzel. I asked for them to hold the asparagus, which is usually cut up in the spaetzel along with mushrooms and onions, and they did it perfectly. The veal was especially amazing, and the spaetzel was very good, too. I tried the Mr Manhattan, and had another one as my dessert. I'm always delighted when my usual craft cocktail is one of their classics on the menu. It was well-made, if a bit small for the price point. We've already decided that this will be our go-to place for lunch whenever I travel up from Chicago to visit my friend. I'm also making plans to bring my husband up there sometime, because I think he will love it, too. A great find! read more

We have always loved PS 23. We decided to walk over on the 4th of July. I've always loved the shrimp & grits, the flavor was good, but I didn't realize the grits would be a hard brick of polenta. There were exactly 5 shrimp on the plate, they were not large or jumbo, just 5 little shrimp. The flavor was good. I felt for 28.00 I could have had a few more shrimp. Honestly jumbo or colossal would have been a nicer presentation, with so few shrimp. My husband had the filet sliders, he was not pleased, our son's parkside burger was better. Our server was fantastic, polite, cordial, and attentive . The service is always good. It's close to home that's a plus, the quality of the food is not always in agreement with the price. I wanted to try Parkside 23 for quite some time. I finally booked a reservation for my birthday. This restaurant had been recommended to me by several people. And all of them raved about it. And now I understand why. The atmosphere is fantastic in the main dining room, which is where we were seated. It wasn't overly loud. The cocktail list is extensive, and they were delicious. The jambalaya was spicy and fantastic. I had the pasta with vegetables and it was fantastic as well. The cream corn appetizer was out of this world. I didn't know cream corn could be so amazing. Service was wonderful. As was the brownie they brought me for my birthday with candles. Top-notch service amazing food. We will definitely be back again. And I can't wait. Parkside 23 is one of my favorite restaurants in the SE WI area. I've been many times and always find the food to be very fresh and full of flavor, definitely en captures the farm to table vibes. The place gives a cozy and intimate feel- would make for a fun a date night! I recommend making a reservation as it gets quite busy at times. The wait staff has always been kind and attentive in my experiences, which I appreciate. Some of my favorite meals include their salmon, chicken dishes, and Caesar salad. Picked up a large catering order or a celebration of life. It was a busy night and they also were working a wedding so understandably had to wait about 20 minutes for my order. But when it came out, everything was hot and beautifully presented! Brittany, manager was fantastic with her communication and ensuring everything would go smoothly. Highly recommend Parkside 23 for all of your catering needs and dining experience. The short ribs were tender and melting in your mouth flavorful, the meatloaf for individual like big meat, meatballs, and the chicken was roasted perfectly. One of the prettiest restaurant locations we have in SE WI. We were greeted immediately upon arrival. Although it was a Tuesday, we were glad to have made reservations as the dining area was very busy! We missed the happy hour window but will be back to take advantage of that soon. My friend & I shared the caprese flatbread & the lettuce wraps with chicken. The flatbread was just ok; the flavor was good but I was excepting more of a fresh flavor. The lettuce wraps were so tasty-chicken was seasoned perfectly, lettuce & accompanying toppings were fresh. We enjoyed our dinner along with great service. This place is a farm to table work of art. They explain that a lot of the produce is grown on the farm behind the restaurant. And the freshness of the ingredients shows in every dish. Stopped here for fish fry for the first time and was pleasantly surprised! I cant believe we haven't given parkside a chance. It's definitely a fancier establishment than I thought. I used to love this restaurant, but it went downhill. Today, I had my usual; shrimp and grits. There was no one in the restaurant when I arrived. There were one or two people that arrived in the bar maybe about 15 minutes after I got there. my shrimp and grits came out very quickly and it was burnt. Burnt! Like, are you kidding me?! My server, Keeley, was an absolute ditz. My Diet Coke was flat no bubbles. And my dessert came out literally 20 minutes later. I had a warm brownie with ice cream on top that does not take almost a half hour to make, and it was not warm. It was super hot and it burned my tongue. They also didn't even ask me if I wanted to sit outside, which there was about four other people when I left outside. Visited on a Saturday evening and the dining room was understandably busy. I got a seat at the bar. It had the feel of a small town restaurant where the bar tenders know all their patrons. The menu is interesting with good variety. I chose the Parkside burger cooked medium. It came out perfect and might be my new favorite burger. I'm just visiting WI on a work trip but would love to come here again next time I'm in town. read more

We went to Parkside 23 to celebrate my dads birthday. We were promptly seated (had a reservation) and service was good (except for a little wait for the check). We had calamari for an appetizer and three of us ordered the short rib while one of us got the fried Amish chicken breast. I would not recommend the calamari, the sauce was not tasty and I didn't love the texture. The creamed corn was a yummy side and everyone really enjoyed their entrees. We got a blueberry crumble for dessert which was also yummy and not too sweet. I would definitely return to try other options. read more

I've stopped in here twice for work lunches. They have a large menu with lots of options for a crowd. I enjoyed the cedar plank salmon and most of all was obsessed with the creamed corn side dish. It's a large restaurant and has a lot of seating both indoor and outdoor, the service is great and food is definitely above average! read more

It has been a long time since we've been in to eat or drink. We often came here every other day when we lived in Brookfield. Being back was so wonderful, and I'm so glad that they're as perfect as we remember them. Always such a nice atmosphere to hang out in. TVs to watch, the noise level is comfortable, and the people are so friendly! We grabbed various things on the menu to try and all of them had such great flavors, paired with the drinks we enjoyed. We will definitely be back, and hopefully more often. Some of the menu items were exactly as we remembered, and it was great to try some items we hadn't ordered before. This is one of the few places we have absolutely never had a bad experience with. I mean, never. I had not been at Parkside 23 for awhile. My friend and I decided to go there for a late birthday celebration. We sat in the front room away from the main dining hall. The restaurant has nice quaint setting but it can get loud in there due to the acoustics. The portion of food was good value for the price. I went with the fish fry which came hot and the fish was meaty and fresh. The batter was not greasy. Service was quick and friendly. But after we received our food it was harder to find the wait staff to get water refill. Overall I recommend Parkside for a nice meal and comforting, quaint ambience. read more

Came for a celebratory dinner and I'm definitely planning to come back! The vibes are upscale but not pretentious, which is perfect cause I have a toddler who fit in perfectly. The service was quick and helpful. As an appetizer we got a shared wild mushroom risotto that was delicious. But the even better appetizer was the steak flatbread! The steak was suuuuper tender and the flatbread was perfectly crispy and cheesy with a nice fresh herb sauce. Highly recommend trying the steak flatbread! Most people at the table got a burger and loved it along with the fries. My daughter got the kids meal but beware even though it's for a kid it still comes on a piping hot plate. My only thought is that should probably change. The food on the kids plate was clearly fresh and farm to table tasting. My daughter loved the flavorful chicken and vegetables. It comes with a drink and she got milk. The cap on the cup was a nice touch for a kid; but the cap was leaking still which was a little annoying. The shrimp and grits were phenomenal!! The grits were buttery with a crispy polenta cake and amazing corn alongside it. The shrimp pieces were huge and there were quite a few of them in there. This restaurant was highly recommended by my friends and family in Milwaukee; and it did not disappoint. It is a farm to table restaurant and everything is grown fresh on their farm or from local sources. The menu is spectacular: everything from soups and salads to fish, chicken, veal and even ethnic dishes like tacos, stir-fry, and jambalaya. It's also unique that the food items are separated by price point. I went for lunch on a Tuesday with four family members. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our waiter was Joe and he was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. My aunt had mentioned that we needed to get the creamed corn as an appetizer because they were famous for it. We ordered two servings and they came out quickly. Boy were they delicious! I would never think of getting creamed corn as an appetizer, but it truly was out of this world with fresh corn and bits of bacon and peppers in a creamy sauce! We also had the arancini for an appetizer and it was good. For my meal I had a wedge salad and a cup of lentil soup. The salad was huge and super fresh! It also had cherry tomatoes, shredded cheese, and bits of bacon with a thousand island style dressing, very yummy! The soup was a huge portion, more like a bowl, with huge chunks of ham and cilantro. It was just ok. My husband had the short rib tacos and he said the filling was really good, but the tortillas didn't hold together very well. My cousins had the jambalaya and stir fry with shrimp. They said they were really good as well. My aunt had the meatloaf, (she gets it all the time,) and she stated that it was really delicious because they make their meatloaf with steak. All the portions were huge, and we had to ask for several to-go boxes. In addition to the excellent food, the restaurant is really beautiful inside. We visited a few days before Thanksgiving and the entire dining room was decorated with Christmas trees. Went here for our book club meeting, which was seven people - notable because they only take reservations for 8+ people in advance, otherwise you have to call the day of. We did that and had no issues getting a reservation on an early Saturday night for the group. Location itself is on a farm, and it's my understanding they grow many ingredients there. If you're from SE WI and familiar with the "Chancery" restaurants, this is in that family. To me, a bit higher end perhaps than I remember Chancery being. Entrees were divided by price on the menu, which I'd never seen before. The service was great - no issues substituting my vegetable choice, and they offered to split the check. 5-star service. Our server is really great. The dining environment is a bit dark inside but the vibe is casual, comfortable and welcoming. Menu is big with all kinds of options, although we thought the menu would be more on the unique side with its farm to table concept before coming in. The food is served pretty fast. We got pork fries, jambalaya and short rib tacos for entrees. Everything was good and homey without too many fancy changes of the recipes that everyone is familiar with. The rice in the jambalaya is risotto-style so it feels heavier than a regular jambalaya. We got carrot cake and crème brûlée for desserts. They looked very cute and tasted as good as they look. O.M.G! This was my first time at Parkside 23 and WOW! We all enjoyed our meal and sharing each plate. We went during the week and during lunch, which I have heard it's hard to get into the restaurant during dinner. It is a larger room set up with tables and a bar off to the side when you come in. It was packed and service was ok (always irked when we have to ask for refills), but they all were running around to each table. The server did say the menu does change based on the season and have to say, that was the best hummus that I have ever had before! The Amish chicken with the mashed potatoes were delicious! Hopefully we'll be back soon to try the menu for the winter and will enjoy that meal just as much. read more

My dearest Gail, Have we ever met in the flesh? Perhaps, or perhaps not, we may never know. I don't even know if you'll ever read this, Farmer Gail. I don't know what life is like on the farm, if you indulge in the frivolity of social media when you're not lovingly tending to your garden. Nevertheless, based solely on my enchantment with your namesake pasta entrée, I find my mind giving rein to a fantasy that our souls have been intertwined since our single-celled organisms churned and bubbled in a primordial ooze at the dawn of time. I know not how such a humble name, Farmer Gail's Pasta, could precede the sensuous magic of the dish that makes my internal organs vibrate with gleeful anticipation at the very reading of the menu. Indeed, this medley of texture and taste deserves sonnets and ballads, but hides in the shadows of a simplicity of name perhaps reflective of the unassuming nature of life on Gail's farm, a haven devoid of pomp and show. But I digress. Penne pasta, fresh broccoli and asparagus all consistently deliver the perfect balance of tender firmness, enveloped in a smooth, creamy sauce that lovingly embraces the semolina tubes and earth's bounty like supple tailored velvet over porcelain skin, accentuating and enhancing without masking or hiding the intrigue of what's beneath. My palms sweat at the mere recollection. Indeed, Farmer Gail, should I ever produce another female offspring, I will struggle to decide if her name shall be Gail in honor of the creator, or Béchamel, the creation. My heart trembles with fear today as I reflect on a passing comment from a bartender whom I desperately hope has been misinformed. The employee noted that this pasta dish will be seasonally replaced, likely sometime in May. While absence proverbially makes hearts grow fonder, I offer my plea to Farmer Gail to take pity on my heart, tongue and stomach, and understand that nothing can augment my fondness for the magnificent plate of pasta. Truly, absence will only cause sorrow. Please, my dearest Gail, have mercy on your patrons and leave Farmer Gail's Pasta on the menu year-round. read more

Reservation protocol is bizarre and unfriendly. They don't want large or small groups as Open Table won't accept a group over 6 diners, but a phone call would not allow me to reserve a lunch spot for 7 people. Soooo... why bother trying to eat here? Meals that I was able to enjoy at PS23 in the past have been adequate and unique for sure. That's the best compliment I can offer. I wanted to go as soon as I looked them up online. It looked so quaint and cozy! Went there hoping that the pictures weren't just pictures. The actual location was as beautiful as the pictures showed. Even the parking lot pretty on this spring May Day, with lilacs in full bloom. Just gorgeous. We had an appointment at 11:30, though we probably didn't need one at that time. the place didn't really start to fill up until around 12:15. One thing is that though we were seated immediately upon arriving at 11:30, it wasn't until 12:15 that we all got our food. There was only one other table ahead of us that our server was helping. Our server was totally, superbly nice. Taking a little too long to take our order was the only thing that kind of irked us, but she did explain that their machine went down just as she was putting in the order form the table ahead of us. Appreciate little explanations like this! Cobb Salad - I was oscillating between the Cobb salad and the burger, and decided on the salad cuz they didn't have keto buns. Great choice. Remember they are a farm to table restaurant, with their own farm on one side of their lot! I was reminded of this when I saw the salad, because the greens were absolutely fresh and delicious! Ranch dressing was made in house (per our server) and perfect along with the salad. Chicken was grilled perfectly, without over drying. Portion was amazing, and I actually couldn't finish the whole salad. Brought half of it home. Roasted bell pepper - didn't expect the pepper to be sitting on top of the risotto, rather than stuffed in it! Which was better anyhow. Friend said it was delicious and finished the whole thing. Risotto - just the regular risotto was very plain, especially compared to the bell pepper... It was straight risotto only, without any garnishes, but friend said tasted great. Chicken sandwich - this was gone in 3 bites lol. Friend didn't comment on how good it was, but it looked scrumptious, and the arugula inside also looked so fresh. The reason I'm giving only 3 stars is because my husbands meal, cedar plank salmon was incredibly underwhelming. The salmon was overcooked to the point it was dry and the roasted potato and parsnip side was again underwhelming and lacked presentation. We would have said something to the bartender but he didn't even ask how our meals were and we did wait quite a long time considering we arrived at 5. The kitchen seemed to get busy and his meal reflected it Would we go back, possibly because it a cool place and great concept. Parkside 23 is for sure in my top 3 restaurants to go to in southeastern WI! The food is unbelievably delicious! The salmon is my fav! The variety on the menu makes it hard to choose. Even in the winter - everything is super fresh & flavorful! The staff are always friendly & attentive without being annoying. They always ask if anyone has food allergies or a gluten intolerance.
