Potbelly is such a treat since we don't have one in CA, and was excited to grab a sandwich during my layover. They were able to accommodate my request of having just a mortadella and cheese sandwich with their pickled peppers, lettuce, mayo and mustard. They cook the bacon and the next person asks me how I would like it packaged, I say a bowl will work fine. I'm waiting for 15 minutes at this point when the person at the cashier tells me that I can't buy bacon as a side. I ask, so you're just going to throw it away? She says yes. I tried my first Potbelly sub this week when we had a layover at Bush. I had no idea they sold subs and not sandwiches or that their thing is that they toast the sandwiches. It was a weird concept for me since I ordered a BLTA (BLT with avocado). Normally with a BLT, you get a mayo slathered bread and then the B, L, and T. However, since they toast the sub bread, they can't put the mayo on the bread, so they sort of squeeze it on the toppings during assembly of the sandwich. This led to a mess of a sandwich that I could barely eat. In fact, I made such a mess, it was almost funny. Bread flaking into crumbs everywhere, shredded lettuce covered in mayo falling out of the sandwich all over the place, etc. Glad I didn't eat it on the plane! How could I have asked the flight attendant for 10 napkins to clean up after myself without getting embarrassed?! This sandwich chain is nationwide and competes with the likes of Subway, Which Wich, Firehouse Subs, Jersey Mike's, etc. Like other similar restaurants, they make the sandwich in front of you and you can choose your veggies and other toppings. I went with the club sandwich on wheat and they toast your oven in a mini conveyer belt oven like they do at Quizno's. Not bad for a sandwich and not bad for an airport meal though the lady making my sandwich messed up. I told her no lettuce and she ended up putting lettuce on my sandwich. My food was good, but this was my first Potbelly experience that left a bad taste in my mouth. I love potbelly, and I visit one at least once a month, including other airports and even this location numerous times. This location falls short because they do not accept the Potbelly gift card as a form of payment, they do not honor the Potbelly perks rewards, and they do not offer the free items earned through Potbelly perks (like a cookie, etc)... all that topped off with charging higher prices than other Potbelly locations and being out of stock of a large number of ingredients and greatly reducing their menu options (at 6pm on a Saturday night). Not honoring Potbelly perks and gift cards at this location is an option chosen by the owner of this particular franchise location. Therefore, in my opinion, the owner of this location cares about nothing more than earning money rather than serving customers... certainly not providing the full potbelly experience that the brand is known for. Will I come back? Probably. I love Potbelly and I pass through this airport quite often. But it will no longer be my go-to and I certainly won't navigate beyond my gate areas to seek it out again. The staff here: friendly. Today's menu selection: severely limited due to shortages (many sandwiches, most salads and a lot of add-ons were not available). Their menu mentions a half sandwich and when I ordered one, the counter guy failed to tell me that they didn't do half sandwiches and just made me a full one regardless of what I ordered.
