Have eaten here several times and while the food is decent sometimes. The service is consistently getting worse each time. Very few waitresses move with any sense of urgency and it's usually just one running around like she's on fire while the rest stand around and pretend to look busy. You can also tell that especially the younger waitresses have had no training because they don't even know how to take an order. The kitchen is beyond slow. I'm sitting here right now for over 30 minutes waiting on steamed shrimp and a hamburger steak. That's after we waited 15 minutes to get our order taken. The cleanliness has also gone down hill. The floors are filthy. I'm not really sure why we keep coming back. read more

Decided to stop on our way home from Cleveland. We ordered the soup of the day, wild mushroom bisque. It was phenomenal! My husband ordered his own bowl after tasting mine. He ordered the cheeseburger with pulled pork on top and their tasty hand cut French fries. I ordered the special meatloaf sandwich with mashed potatoes smothered with gravy. So yummy! Platters were huge! I couldn't finish mine. Met Dave, the manager and Joe, the head chef. Hospitable and friendly service! The owner raises black angus cattle and chickens. So their meat is all farm to table on weekends until they run out. They can't keep up with the demand. To top it off, our bill was 24. 82! Definite repeat and we live 1.5 hours away! read more

We ordered the open faced roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and corn and the 6 inch cheesesteak with hand cut fries. Great value! Incredibly fast food service. Pies looked amazing but we had no room to try them due to the large portions at dinner. Will go back on our way out of town. Highly recommend this restaurant. Good stuff. Situated on a bridge over the Potomac river between Maryland and West Virginia is the Potomac River Grill. On our visit we had the crab cakes as well as the fried chicken dinner. Both meals were very inexpensive and pretty good. One thing I enjoyed is it appeared that most items were homemade and not from a box or instant. This place has went so far down hill it is not funny. Good luck finding something on the menu they still serve. I asked our waitress if there was any specials and all she said was all you can eat fish. Disappointing since they did not have what I wanted on the menu. I ended up ordering a hot turkey sandwich. When people sat at the booth behind us their waitress listed all kinds of specials that I would have ordered if I would have had a good waitress. My husband even said what a big disappointment and my husband never says that at any restaurant. I noticed everything was dirty in this place after I decided I couldn't eat because of the disappointment. The waitress didn't even bother to ask if everything was ok when I only took one bite out of the sandwich prior to leaving. I could not even drink the soda I ordered because it tasted horrible. How do you screw up a soda? This place was so good when it first opened but I guess the newness wore off and now no one cares. So sad. read more

My wife and I made a special trip to this place for some roast beef and fries. We placed our order and than 5 minutes later our waitress informed us that they were out of beef so I ordered the hamburger steak and fries. When our food came out my burger wasn't even done. I informed the waitress and they credited me for the burger only ! They should have credited me for the whole meal. Mediocre food, lackadaisical service. Rare hamburger was cooked very well done. BBQ was thoroughly over-cooked and tasteless. Grilled vegetables were actually just sauteed in a pan, and appeared to be low grade canned vegetables to begin with (nasty would be the appropriate word for them). We waited a while for this place to be open when we were driving by because we don't live in the area, but visit the vicinity about 5-6 times per year. We had a fantastic lunch of homemade meatloaf with mashed potatoes & gravy. Portions were enormous and we have a set of meals to enjoy later this week in our take away box. Very friendly waitress and great fast service. Neat and clean and fun diner atmosphere with upholstered, comfortable red booths & tables with chairs. There is also outdoor seating. Cool location right on the river. No view from inside. Looking forward to bringing our boys back to try their burgers. Very affordable, we ate our huge lunch for under $20. We went to enjoy a fried chicken dinner and it was delicious as usual. We always order the salad which comes with egg and cheese on top, great! I get the mashed potatoes with gravy on the side while my husband gets the fresh cut fries with gravy on the side. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Very reasonably priced. Stopped in based on a recommendation from the hotel we were staying at. Nice cozy place on the outskirts of town. I ordered the crab cakes and my wife ordered the 16 oz sirloin special. Her salad was good sized and we shared-good start to the meal although the salad dressing came in a plastic squeeze pouch. My crab cakes were tasty, along with mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts. Wife got her meal which included a gigantic baked potato and canned green beans. Sour cream came in squeeze pouches. Her steak is where things went downhill. Rather than a sirloin, she got a bone-in, thin sliced, fatty rib steak. More than half of her meat serving was fat, gristle and bone. She had to operate like a surgeon to find some edible pieces. Found this place thanks to Yelp! on the way back to Maryland from West Virginia. Got the open roast beef sandwich, which was amazing. You ain't at Denny's here. The meat was fresh local Angus beef, slow smoked. (I talked to someone I think was the owner.) The mashed potatoes were real. Only thing I would have changed was the white bread - the meat deserved better. The rest of our party had burgers, which were also excellent. I ordered the fried boneless chicken breasts with french fries and coleslaw. There was a lot of fries but they were soggy and soaked in rancid grease except for a couple that were crunchy from still being raw. The menu said two chicken breasts, but if they were two breasts they came from a pigeon - it looked like they took half a boneless chicken breast, pounded it flat and then cut it in two and fried the pieces separately. They were sort of crispy but the thin batter fell off when you cut it and it tasted of the same rancid grease. Coleslaw was okay but a very small amount. I went to bed hungry that night. read more

The parking lot was packed so I thought it was worth a shot. We ordered a beef BBQ and pulled pork. Both dinners were processed frozen foods sold in bulk. The beef was gray with no flavor and tough as dry shoe leather. The pulled pork was moist but flavorless. The potato salad and Cole slaw I'm certain came from a gallon container at savealot. If you want another patty it will be $2.99 more for each patty. I can buy a pound of Jimmy Dean for $3.59 and on special I can buy 2 pounds for $6.00. First time I had visited since remodeled and new owners. Food good. But I wanted fried chicken and they had sold out. Understand that it was a late Sunday afternoon around 2pm. Revisited on the following Wednesday to order fried chicken again...out of chicken again. The closest I got to their chicken is smelling it and seeing other people enjoying it. Stopped in Sunday evening for a quick bite. Ordered a small cheeseburger with onion. When the girl brought it to me at the counter I was wondering where the beef was. To my dismay, I opened up the bun to find a mis-shapened 2oz max piece of meat with cheese lost in the center of the bun. It wouldn't have even made a decent size meatball! When the bun was on the plate you couldn't even see it as the bun dwarfed the little bit of meat there was. It was truly a joke and a half. The person who cooked this and put it on the bun knew exactly what she was doing, screwing with me. I didn't want to cause a scene so I ate it and watched another double burger being served to the guy at another table. I could see two pcs. of meat. What really pissed me off is the numb nuts waitress knew she was serving me a joke and served it anyway. Will I ever stop back, no way in hell. This place has decent food. However, we didn't eat there today. Went in on a Sunday afternoon when all the football games were airing and they had the Weather Channel on. That's cool, watched updates on the hurricane for a few. Asked the waitress if we could put a game on. She said she'd have to ask the owner. Absolute look of terror in her eyes when we suggested she just let us change it. Talked about the Pittsburgh game with other customers while we waited for the answer. It came back NO, not allowed to change the channel. We walked out. If the control freak owner of Potomac River Grill cares more about his TV channel than satisfying his customers, he can watch the Weather Channel all by himself in an empty restaurant. Like other reviews...food was good & a good value. Clean place with a nice atmosphere. Waitresses were nice, though ours was a bit overwhelmed. Got there at almost 1pm on a Monday and when we left 45 minutes later, tables were still coming & going. Hopping joint. Thinking a 3rd waitress would be a good idea.
