I am not able to review the food. Unfortunately, we never made it to that part. When we visited it was my husband, my one year old and myself. We sat in the back. We asked for a highchair and we were given one. This highchair was filthy. I fortunately had disinfectant wipes and cleaned the chair and table. The condiments on the table were equally as filthy. Just pure crust on the top and outside of the bottle. Our waiter took our drink order. Brought our drinks and went to the bar to hang out with other staff. We waited 15 minutes to place our food order. Our waiter was visible from our table, 4 servers and staff members were just standing there talking. We kept turning to look for him but he didn't come back. Other staff members came back to look at something (were we seated in the back) but none even acknowledged our existence. Which is hard with a very vocal baby. My husband then went to the register to pay for our drinks. To which OUR WAITER asked what we needed. He paid for our drinks, then the girl checking us out realized we never ordered food and chuckled. 1st time there and last. Definitely not comfortable with how the servers disrespect customers time. Also, not comfortable letting a child eat in a restaurant who is visibly not cleaning. I can not fathom what the kitchen must look like. read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch on the drive back to VA, and the service was 5 stars, the food was 5 stars, the atmosphere was 5 stars! It's rare that I write a review on the first visit, but I'm not a local & my opportunity to have a return visit is remote. We were a party of three; two of us ordered the 4-piece fried chicken dinner with side dishes. The waitress said it would be 20 minutes for the fried chicken, because they make it fresh. That was fine with us. During the wait, I was served a massive side salad that unfortunately was buried in shredded cheddar cheese. I'm not a big fan of cheese on salads... It seems like an unnecessary addition to an otherwise beautiful bowl of greens, tomatoes, sliced hard boiled egg and onions. And, the salad dressing came in packets, ugh. First disappointment. Our second disappointment came when the fried chicken was brought out. Instead of each of us getting four pieces, they had two pieces (a breast and leg) on one plate and two pieces (a leg and a wingding...see pic) on another, with the promise of another round coming. It was about another 15 minutes before the next round of chicken came (a breast, a thigh, a leg and a wingding), so the assortment was off by a thigh (our favorite chicken part). In all fairness, our sides were tasty...Finely shredded coleslaw in a sweet dressing, super creamy mac & cheese & fresh-cut french fries. They looked promising. The letdown came with the ketchup we had to ask for (because not every table had its own bottle)...it wasn't Heinz, or any other recognizable brand name. And it just didn't taste like it belonged with their fresh-cut fries. Really, no Heinz ketchup?!? This Pittsburgh guy was disappointed for a 3rd time. Before/if I go back, I'll have to call them and see if they have better ketchup on the table... Who has heard of a non-Heinz (or other brand-name) ketchup on a restaurant table? C'mon folks...you've been in business for too long not to get your timing, dressings & ketchup right! read more

Tried this place because it's on the way into Berkley Springs. The place is bigger than you might think walking in. Parking lot isn't huge but I don't think you would have a problem. You are able to call ahead and they will either bring you or just let your waitress know you already called ahead when you sit. I ordered the pit beef and mashed potatoes. I liked my meal but honestly it wasn't anything special. The beef was a little dry, was glad they had the BBQ sauce ready. The Cole slaw was great. People definitely have their own way of making it and I'm a fan of this one! They must know people (myself included) have no self control. There is a fridge of delicious looking (and tasting) pies. I, of course, sat looking at it the whole meal and HAD to try a piece. It was chocolate peanut butter YUMMMM!!! I asked for it to go since I was full from the meal. I gave four stars since the food was just ok and the service was slow. Waitress didn't check on us till we were finished our meal and I needed a refill way before that. Place dosnt look like much from the outside but once you order you realize some small little hole in the wall places are the best kept secrets! Myself and my hubby enjoy are routine weekend breakfast here! We have grown to love the waitresses and there breakfast is spot on!! The sausage gravy over biscuits is OMG! so good ! the biscuits soft and fluffy and the gravy is perfection!! i also love getting a blueberry pancake which is the size of the plate you'll only need one with a side of bacon and grits!! you'll never leave hungry portion sizes are large !! The last 4 times I have been there it has consistently went down hill!!! Service is slow, we have had to ask for our drinks, ask for refills (ON COMPLETELY EMPTY CUPS!), food was brought out luke warm or cold. It has been dirty, tables sit with dishes, flies are inside...food portions have went down in size. I also had a tip put on a card AFTER I had paid and LEFT! I only seen it on my bank acct, called management and per mgmt it was an "accident". It didn't even make the bill an even amount (like a round up tip--say 51.14 to 55.00) it was like 58.83. they did credit it but I have zero belief it was accidental. Avoid this. Until new mgmt or staff take over; this place was once a gem and now is a lump of coal. read more

I left a review previously, but unfortunately things have gotten worse here. The last time my husband and I ate here the restaurant was filthy and had flies everywhere! My iced tea tasted funny and I asked the waitress if I could get something else. She said yes and then explained that I wasn't the first to say it tasted funny and it was probably because they don't clean the tea containers daily anymore. The food has gone down in quality, standards and taste. This is very sad since when they first opened it was very good! My father in law just ate here last week. He ordered a hamburger and thought it tasted funny. Turned out the meat was spoiled. He wound up with food poisoning. The waitress did take his meal off the ticket and sent another girl into the kitchen to check on the meat. She indicated it might not be in the refrigerator and could possibly just be sitting out getting too warm. It's very concerning what is actually going on at the restaurant now. I hope they look into the issues and make the needed changes. Especially the issues with food standards and quality. But my recommendation to you at this time is just don't stop here. Keep going. Not from the area, just passing through. We seen the sign on the highway and decided to stop here because it wasn't a chain restaurant. Boy did we have a treat! The owner was very happy to have our very large group and the food did not disappoint! My daughter said it was the best Club Sandwich she's ever had! My BTL was phenomenal! We have driven by here a number of times and have always talked about stopping by..first it looks old but retro on the inside. The staff are really friendly and we went with the recommended Cheeseburger and fries for him and I got coleslaw instead of fries and we both got Swiss Cheese. The slaw and fries were very good, the burger was good size and the meat looked good. Well.....the burger was greasy, almost soaking my bun, and there was,it seemed like, 1/4 pound of cheese on it. Now I like cheese, no, I LOVE cheese but this was so much that I had to take some off. Last of all is the bathroom...now no one has ever accused me of being ocd but beside the toilet tank could use a swifter and the corners of the floor needed a good scrubbing. Hopefully the place can get a good physical upgrade. I'm willing to try there again but will not be getting the cheeseburger or melted cheese on anything read more

This place is terrible my wife, kids and I literally waited an hour and half for our food to even begin cooking. Only to have them come tell me what I ordered wasn't available. Then when I didn't want anything they magically found "enough" to make mine. The floors were covered in food they use 2 liter soda and throw away plastic cups. We have been wanting to stop and eat here for awhile and today we had the opportunity. We wish we hadn't. They had just stopped serving breakfast so we couldn't get ideas of what to order off the other patrons. Since we were still on breakfast time we went for the all day breakfast. Who can screw up breakfast? Well they can. Hash browns were deep fried fastfood triangles. Eggs over cooked and rubbery. Bacon plenty of it but hard as a rock and no flavor. Sausage same thing cooked so much it was dry and hard jerky like. Coffee smelled great but tasted like the local water. After watching the lunch service come out i am glad we didn't try something higher priced as there was nothing fresh all food service freezer and canned food with the possible exception of the French fries and i say possible as you can buy frozen that look the same. read more

The menu clearly states there is a 20 minute wait and that's exactly what it took. However, the potatoes and gravy and green beans where from a can in a truck stop variety of food.
