Dessert tower included with tea service

First time visiting. Took my 3-year-old and mom there. You have to make reservations to go, so they knew we were planning on taking a child. I would have preferred they tell us children were not welcome instead of letting us bring her only to stick us in corner while everyone else sat by the fire and the beautifully decorated windows. We were right by the kitchen. My daughter had a toy train and was sitting quietly on the floor playing. The chef came over to say she was in the way. Literally there was not even a mouse around. Aside from the treatment of my child, the tea was weak. I drink tea everyday at home. I definitely had higher expectations of what would be served. The food included in the tea service was so sweet. Everything was sweet, even a tamale. I would have preferred more savory options. Finally, they had no booze. A lot of other places offer at least a champagne. On the plus side, the restaurant was beautifully decorated.

I love this hidden gem! I have brought my mom and my husband here and both experiences were wonderful! The food is so intricately detailed and every bite is delicious. Although each course is a small bite, it is still a filling meal! The menu changes based on the season, and each item is very thought-out. It's also so fun to pick your teas that will pair with your meal. The service is always excellent, and I always feel so welcome and comfortable here. The ambiance is an old house that is decorated so beautifully, it is such an enjoyable experience. You can also BYO bubbles if you like which is fun too! I definitely recommend this spot for a girls afternoon or a lunch date! I can't wait to go back and try their next menu!

My family of six does an annual holiday tea every year. We usually go to the Adolphus but we wanted to try something new and this place looked beautiful. We were apprehensive of the vegetarian menu because we have some picky eaters, but everything was truly delicious! It was like a chef's tasting. I especially loved the cucumber and beet on rye and the carrot with pomegranate seeds. The house is absolutely gorgeous and decorated for Christmas beautifully. Very elegant and cozy. The service was top tier. My boyfriend and I got there early and they invited us in to enjoy a cup of tea way ahead of our reservation. My favorite thing though was that they offer a spiced cream to go with the tea. There was a cinnamon cream to go with the chai and a lavender cream to go with the earl grey that was to die for! I love little touches like that. We will be back for sure. It is new favorite. The team there should be very proud of what they've accomplished.

Afternoon tea is something I enjoy immensely - to be able to slow down time and savor small bites, focus on chitchat in a leisurely way while sipping tea. My husband discovered this place and surprised me for my birthday celebration weekend in Dallas. This is one of the absolute best afternoon tea experiences I've had in recent years. The food was unique and delicious - items had a global flavor twist in a creative way. Good selection of teas. Adorable serveware and charming ambiance. This place is a winner!

I took my mom to the Mother's Day tea today and was blown away at how gorgeous this place is. Absolutely stunning inside and out. Staff was so sweet and food was fantastic. Definitely finding new excuses to come here more often

I made reservations 3 months in advance for my mothers 85th bday . The gentleman on the phone couldn't have been more welcoming . He offered flexibility on scheduling as my mom has some back issues , and said we would be seated by the Christmas tree and there would be a small gift for her . Imagine my delight at his amazing customer service , alas that is not what we experienced . Upon arrival , there is a beautiful cozy fireplace , a well lit tree and elegant room - unfortunately , we didn't experience any of that as they seated us in a separate room that looked like a completely different restaurant . It was decorated for Christmas , but very kitschy mismatched like an antique store - the tiny artificial tree there was undecorated . my adult daughter , who never complains was shocked at how cold it was (she runs hot ) there was a separate ceiling wall unit for air) she had arrived early and and said she turned it to 80 just to try and get it warm . The table itself was decorated nicely -and the room is bright -but it is awkward with a small settee and large chairs that aren't easy to move . There was no offer of help from staff . We moved around to try to sit ourselves as seating was well over a. Foot and half from table . The two tea offerings themselves were nice - and the food is interesting . This isn't a traditional English tea offering , but was a Spanish influenced savory offering . Whether that is something you would enjoy is a personal preference . My daughter is gluten free , so there were plenty of offerings for her . She enjoyed the unique menu . The cornbread was delicious , the tamale was presented nicely - but not all of the flavors are delicate , if that is what you are looking for . It leans very heavily on the savory side -not sweet . A highlight is their small snowmen pastry , which was nicely presented & the last offering of their version of milk and cookies . I felt bad for our young server , who seemed to be trying to learn the menu. One bit that could be improved - you keep one small dessert plate for all of the offerings except the tamale . Sweet or savory , clean or not -you keep that one little plate and original silverware (we asked for a new plate and was told we keep original small one ) I really didn't want to cause friction , as this was a special birthday and my mother had just lost her twin sister , but I was pretty disappointed in the experience . When my mother left the table for a ladies room break , I discreetly reminded them that this was a birthday and what had been promised a gift while booking and asked if there was something they could do - our young server was very kind and said to give her a minute . I assumed they might bring a small little tea strainer or such - no, she was brought a "mocktail " with a small cookie and candle . I appreciate the sentiment - but after 5 courses of food and drink , there wasn't much situational awareness that an 85 year old would (or anyone) would want further food . I booked this 3 months early as a recommendation from another friend - and myself have experience in the culinary world - but at 75.00 a head - with a total bill with tip of 270.00- the expense didn't line up with the experience *note I generally tip on the full amount as I did here if the sever is pleasant . Another note is that we had an early 11:30 booking , before the crowd arrived . Would i go back , probably not - I said a maybe in review title as I noticed the other guests as I exited - one party being set up looked lovely - some other guests cozied up next to a warm fireplace & some others near a larger cheerfully tastefully decorated tree (I guess the one we were promised ) looked to be having a completely different experience - our little room was just not comfortable , not elegant ,nor did have the nice view of the restaurant . The service itself had 2 teas and one milk offering . I give the savory offerings 3.5 . Exception - the cheeses 5.0 The desserts a 4. The milk and cookies a 5 . The mocktail offering just not what I would have expected - I assured my mom she didn't have to try and drink it as she was full - but she felt bad and tried . If you are seated in the other room , I can see where this could be a very cozy intimate experience . We felt like more of an afterthought. Staff was friendly upon arrival and departure - but once again - not really visible much in the back room . If you're going to spend several hundreds of dollars on a tea and gratuity - and want a top notch experience - I suggest specifically asking for seating near the fireplace or tree for the holidays (which I thought we had ) or booking a more traditional holiday tea elsewhere . So- probably a 2 or 2.5 experience - a solid range between 3 and 5 for food -

Hidden gem in Dallas for afternoon tea! I've been to this place twice, once last year and recently for a special Christmas tea. First time we had a great tea, food is delicious and service is great! Second time I was at awe on how much it's improved in its ambience. It's an old house and the owner brings a great family feel. Love the vibe and will come back!

"Absolutely enchanted by my experience! From the moment I stepped in, the atmosphere was like a cozy embrace. The service was impeccable; the staff went above and beyond to ensure every sip was perfection. Each tea was a delightful journey of flavor, expertly brewed. A haven for tea lovers and seekers of serenity alike. Five stars hardly does it justice!" The menu is seasonal.... And trust me when I tell you that your palette is in for an absolute. Each bite will leave you wanting more

This place deserves 6/5 stars if I could give it. I came with some friends for a Galentine's celebration and it was so much fun. We got 6-courses of small bites / pastries and tea pairings. It was very apparent that a lot of time and craftsmanship was put into each dish. The service was great too! You definitely have to call in advance to make a reservation as the menu is constantly changing and they have very limited seating. However, it makes total sense with how attentive the staff is. In addition, my friends and I stayed and chatted for a while throughout each course and we never felt rushed to leave. The decor here is STUNNING. It is a quaint space with beautiful paintings! Definitely gives European-high tea vibes!! I would definitely come back here!

Reserve your spot ahead of time! The place walking in was like a fairy garden. The blue jays came by to shower in the fountain. We tried the apricot chardonnay and basil blackberry tea, the latter was definitely unique and delicious. Out of the courses, we enjoyed the pot of flowers the most--it was a quinoa dish. All the ingredients were so fresh and we saw the staff walk outside to trim off the ingredients. The next notable item for us was the top of the tea tower. Everything was delicious (except the focaccia piece--that one tasted too healthy and the palate cleanser--that one had a bland agar texture), but the creampuff chamomile and strawberry scone was so yummy. Nothing was overly sweet. The servers were all so courteous and pleasant and helpful. Definitely would come here again for special occasions!

Amazing amazing amazing experience! The chef is incredible and our server Alex was the kindest soul. Would absolutely go back!

I meet up with a good friend every couple of months, and I thought we would try this adorable place. It was perfect. Just the right amount of food. The holiday tea was delicious. The sopapillas at the end were just spot on. Highly recommend. The service especially was top notch.

First of all, the Bishop Arts District itself is incredibly charming. Block after block of unique shops ranging from bookstores and bakeries to candle shops, candy stores, coffee spots, and little boutiques. It's exactly the kind of neighborhood I loveeeee exploring while traveling and if I lived in Dallas, I'd probably frequent this area often. As for The Wild Detectives, the concept alone immediately appealed to me...bookstore meets cafe meets bar meets restaurant. That combination will pretty much always grab my attention. I love to read, I love to eat. The space has a pretty relaxed, community oriented vibe, and during my Saturday morning/early afternoon visit, there were plenty of people working, reading, chatting, and hanging out both inside and on the patio. My one slight disappointment was that the bookstore side itself was smaller than I expected and didn't have quite as extensive a selection as I had imagined. That said, I still managed to leave with a few great additions for my ever growing TBR pile. Overall, this was a worthwhile stop and one I may revisit the next time I'm in Dallas.
