Visiting potpourri boulangerie was definitely a unique and worthwhile experience because they take great care in the selection of their teas and accompanying cakes/pastries. My friends and I enjoyed two types of two; my favorite being the Berry Garden tea made of white tea with a blackberry infusion. The teas are available for purchase in their tea library section, along with the tea steeper cups as well. $13-14 for the loose tea bags (makes up to 80 cups) and $6 for the mini steepers. You need to reserve a space beforehand (there is an online form/number to call) and they have their menu online, too, to see if it seems up your alley. First time visiting. Took my 3-year-old and mom there. You have to make reservations to go, so they knew we were planning on taking a child. I would have preferred they tell us children were not welcome instead of letting us bring her only to stick us in corner while everyone else sat by the fire and the beautifully decorated windows. We were right by the kitchen. My daughter had a toy train and was sitting quietly on the floor playing. The chef came over to say she was in the way. Literally there was not even a mouse around. Aside from the treatment of my child, the tea was weak. I drink tea everyday at home. I definitely had higher expectations of what would be served. The food included in the tea service was so sweet. My family of six does an annual holiday tea every year. We usually go to the Adolphus but we wanted to try something new and this place looked beautiful. I made reservations 3 months in advance for my mothers 85th bday . The gentleman on the phone couldn't have been more welcoming . He offered flexibility on scheduling as my mom has some back issues , and said we would be seated by the Christmas tree and there would be a small gift for her . Imagine my delight at his amazing customer service , alas that is not what we experienced . Upon arrival , there is a beautiful cozy fireplace , a well lit tree and elegant room - unfortunately , we didn't experience any of that as they seated us in a separate room that looked like a completely different restaurant . It was decorated for Christmas , but very kitschy mismatched like an antique store - the tiny artificial tree there was undecorated . my adult daughter , who never complains was shocked at how cold it was (she runs hot ) there was a separate ceiling wall unit for air) she had arrived early and and said she turned it to 80 just to try and get it warm . The table itself was decorated nicely -and the room is bright -but it is awkward with a small settee and large chairs that aren't easy to move . There was no offer of help from staff . We moved around to try to sit ourselves as seating was well over a. Foot and half from table . The two tea offerings themselves were nice - and the food is interesting . This isn't a traditional English tea offering , but was a Spanish influenced savory offering . Whether that is something you would enjoy is a personal preference . My daughter is gluten free , so there were plenty of offerings for her . She enjoyed the unique menu . The cornbread was delicious , the tamale was presented nicely - but not all of the flavors are delicate , if that is what you are looking for . It leans very heavily on the savory side -not sweet . A highlight is their small snowmen pastry , which was nicely presented & the last offering of their version of milk and cookies . I felt bad for our young server , who seemed to be trying to learn the menu. One bit that could be improved - you keep one small dessert plate for all of the offerings except the tamale . Sweet or savory , clean or not -you keep that one little plate and original silverware (we asked for a new plate and was told we keep original small one ) I really didn't want to cause friction , as this was a special birthday and my mother had just lost her twin sister , but I was pretty disappointed in the experience . When my mother left the table for a ladies room break , I discreetly reminded them that this was a birthday and what had been promised a gift while booking and asked if there was something they could do - our young server was very kind and said to give her a minute . I assumed they might bring a small little tea strainer or such - no, she was brought a "mocktail " with a small cookie and candle . I appreciate the sentiment - but after 5 courses of food and drink , there wasn't much situational awareness that an 85 year old would (or anyone) would want further food . I booked this 3 months early as a recommendation from another friend - and myself have experience in the culinary world - but at 75.00 a head - with a total bill with tip of 270.00- the expense didn't line up with the experience *note I generally tip on the full amount as I did here if the sever is pleasant . The mocktail offering just not what I would have expected - I assured my mom she didn't have to try and drink it as she was full - but she felt bad and tried . If you are seated in the other room , I can see where this could be a very cozy intimate experience . We felt like more of an afterthought. Staff was friendly upon arrival and departure - but once again - not really visible much in the back room . If you're going to spend several hundreds of dollars on a tea and gratuity - and want a top notch experience - I suggest specifically asking for seating near the fireplace or tree for the holidays (which I thought we had ) or booking a more traditional holiday tea elsewhere . I called in advance to see if they would still have my family and I without a reservation, and they said yes of course and encouraged to come in as they were not busy at all. OMG. This is an amazing place. Been going for Christmastime tea for the past 3 years. This is not your ordinary tea, it's gourmet. Andres, chef and Daryl are amazing and so creative with the menu. They serve with a smile and always make you feel welcome and special. This Christmas, we started out with a white tea and the cauliflower soup. It was divine. We wanted a whole bowl of it but knew there was more to come. A small salad with pomegranate seed, nuts and this amazing dressing was next. Of course we wanted more of that too! Next is a 3 tier dish filled with an assortment of goodies. We love them all. All along you get a pot of hot tea of your choice and you can switch that up too. What you are paying for here is the experience, and at $65 (plus tax/tip) a person, it is a high price to pay. Does the combination of food, tea, and atmosphere measure up? I'm not so sure. This was not my first afternoon tea, but neither would I consider myself an experienced tea-goer. In comparison to my other experiences I would say the tea was on par, but the food was underwhelming. This surprised me! The reviews all make it sound like the food is delicious. We love the idea of small bites and thought the quantity was appropriate, but the actual flavors and textures fell short. The first course (quinoa salad) was exceptional and the amuse-bouche was unique and flavorful, but most everything in between failed to impress. It was a bit difficult to make a reservation - I had to call multiple times. A $40 per person deposit is required and the reservation options were limited, which made me think it was heavily booked. In reality, more than half of the tables were empty on a Sunday at mid-day. We found the atmosphere to be charming (especially the outdoor garden) and the service was fine. Ultimately, we came for a leisurely tea time together and to this end, Potpourri Boulangerie delivered. The pace of the tea was perfect and we had plenty of time to enjoy each other's company without feeling rushed. What a delightful little gem this is! Housed in a cute but unassuming converted house, Potpourri Boulangerie is a feast for the senses. When you walk in, you are greeted by an airy, light interior filled with tasteful and comfortable mismatched antique furniture that creates a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Every person that assisted me during my visit was attentive, kind, and patient while I figured out which of their delicious looking pastries I wanted to indulge in. I decided on their strawberry danish, herb bagel, lemon poppyseed scone, and a ground beef empanada so that I could try a large variety of their offerings. I chose their apricot ginger tea to accompany (you can't go to a tea house and not try the tea, right?). The tea was brought out in a cute little teapot, with a dainty china cup and saucer for serving. It really helped set the tone for a relaxing time munching on some tasty treats and enjoying some truly epic tea. The scone was my favorite: it was light and crumbly, with just a hint of the lemon poppyseed flavor to tease the tastebuds! The bagel was delightful, and a wonderfully chewy texture with a fluffy interior and smooth cream cheese. The empanada was hot and fresh, and absolutely packed with flavor! As someone of hispanic descent, I might have preferred a touch more spicy heat, but honestly it was truly wonderful as it was, and the fresh dipping sauce served with it was the perfect accompaniment as it had a sour, tangy taste that complimented the juicy meat in the empanada. The only item I did not really enjoy was the danish, sadly. I'm still giving them five stars as everything else, including service, was absolutely outstanding (I even bought some loose tea to bring home, the Ruby mix tea is a must, y'all) but the danish was actually completely raw under that first crispy layer of dough, so it ended up being inedible. I threw out the pastry and ate the strawberry topping, which was quite tasty on its own and would make a lovely jam.
