I live down the block from here and so have used this dry cleaner off and on out of convenience but unfortunately have to not recommend it. Brought a white comforter here just for a routine washing and they left a burn mark on it that ruined the comforter. I brought it back and they claimed it was a stain and that it was my fault. The owner was argumentative and unpleasant. I wouldn't leave a bad review if the stain were there before bringing it to the dry cleaner as I've never had a problem with them until now. read more

These guys are my absolute favorite! They clean and will also do press only which is nice, since I dread ironing. They will press table cloths. Vermont Cleaners is friendly and attentive to getting stains out. Great parking, although some of their customers are rude and park in the cross walks and rush into to beat you (the only other person in line). Store hours are very generous, especially on Saturday. Alterations and repair prices are very reasonable. They sell re-usable garment bags for $6 to avoid excess plastic. I tried Greener Cleaners on Florida St and had a pair of pants come back w the spaghetti sauce still crusted on, that I asked them to remove; and they told me the stain that was there when I picked up my shirt was an invisible stain. That woman was smarmy. I tried 25th Street Cleaners (25th & Mission). Although they were difficult to park at it initially seemed worth it since the man/owner was so friendly. Unfortunately he ruined a pair of my pants that had only been worn 2-3 times, and his excuse was that it just sometimes happens. Another FAIL. I tried Brite Look Cleaners on Bryant & Cesar Chavez, and despite being affordable, friendly and cleaning my clothes; they always smelled like the incense that they burn there. read more

We have used Benson and his laundry service for almost two years now and would have much more favorably reviewed him except for two situations that occurred recently. The first was an indicator, but not important enough to describe in detail for this review. The second situation involved Benson blaming "our cheap shirt" for mysterious holes that appeared on a brand new shirt that we brought to him to dry clean. He literally argued with us about damage to this shirt - which he obviously caused - and then pulled out a few dollar bills to get us to leave when other customers came in. They have ruined numerous sweaters by shrinking them and then trying to stretch them out. I have never had anyone do this to any wool or cashmere sweaters and they have and just said it happens, no sorry, no offer to compensate for the items. Worst possible experience. I have been using them for the past year and was very happy. Last week I brought a load of shirts to wash and iron. My husband picked them up this morning and we noticed that one had significant never seen stains and when I went back to understand what happened the man that helped me started being very defensive and raising his voice. I have bringing shirts to clean for the past 15 years across multiple places. It happens some times that things get ruined. It's disappointing but it happens. All I was trying to ask was: 1. what happened? 2. could it be fixed? 3. How could it be recovered? I could not even try to have a conversation as the man kept raising his voice. I tried to ask him why he did not point out these stains if they were when I dropped the shirts (which I inspected and had not stains of that kind) and why he did not tell us that one shirt had a problem when we picked it up...and he kept saying is your problem and keep repeating a word I could not understand. I said I assume you are not interested in having me as a client. He said go away, I don't want client like you, and the woman in the store asked me to leave. I was a little astonished by the attitude and the way they handle this. Clearly not a place for me anymore. I walk my dog past this place every day, so it's a very convenient place to take my dry cleaning. Little did I know until the other day that it's a great (I mean fantastic) place to get your new jeans hemmed. I have a pair of Rock and Republic jeans that are like a second skin to me. Seriously. I wear them an annoying amount. They're great, black, form-fitting, boot-cut at the bottom rather than skinny, and just overall really pretty fantastic jeans. Unfortunately, I'm not a 5'10" girl. I'm 5'7" so every time I buy new jeans, I have to get them taken up a bit. Usually I cut them off myself a little long and wear them until they start to fray. Which is just what I did with this particular pair of jeans. I bought another pretty fabulous pair of Rock and Republics the other day, which of course were too long to wear. Now, having two pairs of fabulous jeans needing hemming, I felt the push toward getting it done. I was heading out of town, so this was a perfect time to get this stuff done and not miss my most fabulous second-skin jeans. I took them and a coat to be cleaned in on Saturday. Benson asked if Wednesday was all right. I told him to take his time, because I was out of town until Friday. When I picked them up, they were PERFECT. Everything was truly amazingly well-done. The hem was so professionally done it didn't look at all like it didn't come originally with the jeans. The coat was squeaky clean too. All this for $27. Nordstrom would have charged me $20 for just one hem. So glad this is a place a hop, skip, and a short dog walk away. Uh-oh, though, because now I'm inspired to buy more expensive jeans. read more

Sadly, after 6 years in the neighborhood it was time to move, and of course I'd dropped off some clothes and forgot to pick them up before I left. Visiting the city from Tahoe I was having a hard time making it to the shop during the hours/days they were open, but I called Benson one day telling him I'd be by after closing time and he promised to stay open for me so I could grab my stuff. I have brought my business shirts here most weeks for over a year. Benson always remembers my name, and is friendly and helpful. If I am traveling, they fold and package the shirts beautifully and they arrive in great shape; otherwise they hang them well. I like that the shirts are not pressed to within an inch of their lives. I like the friendly service. Parking is easy. Pickup is easy. They are always done on time. Not so sure if I would take anything else here that would normally require dry-cleaning (would like to, but not sure if wet cleaning would be good on a woolen blazer or jersey, for example) but absolutely great for shirts. I like that they have a price for cleaning capes. I do not have a cape. Perhaps I should get a cape. Then I could clean my cape. read more

My peeps will do you right and get your stuff dry cleaned up. One of the things I like about this spot is that they are close to my hood and they specifically do not press the shit out of dress shirts. I hate it when cleaners press the hell out of shirts that it makes the edges shiny and gives it that you kept the iron on that spot for too long look. This is a good cleaners, but I was compelled to write this review b/c of the one written by Syl O. He suggests that he got a suit pressed in 10 minutes and paid only $4. Are you kidding me? This is a business, and for the expedited service, you need to pay. I believe same-day is 50% surcharge and next day is 25% surcharge. Reviews that suggest that there is some sort of amazing steal here, are very misleading, and often serve to disappoint people that go there looking for anything close to the same deal. read more

I needed to find a cleaner near my work, and went to Vermont Cleaners since it did so well on Yelp. When I got there, I was surprised to find that they don't do dry cleaning - WHAT?!?!? Turns out they did "all-natural professional wet clean"....I was skeptical. What the heck does that mean? Is that the same as a wash and hang dry? I guess it's a good idea...fewer chemicals... In any event, I put my faith in my fellow Yelpers and forged ahead. My denim jacket really needed to be cleaned and I was there already.... I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised. My jacket came back squeaky clean, and pressed perfectly. $8 was certainly not too bad for a job well done, and done without icky chemicals! I will definitely come back again! read more

Vermont Cleaners is the kind of neighborhood business you tell all your friends about, the kind you remember fondly, even years later, after you've moved on to new places. Benson remembers your name and your order and greets you cheerfully as soon as you walk in. I stop by once every couple of weeks with a huge load of bed linens - because I hate to fold that stuff. I pick it up in a day or two, all beautifully folded and neatly wrapped. Bottom line: he does great work. He's fast, and his prices are good. This afternoon, I had to stop by to get some emergency repairs on a coat I need tonight. No problem for Benson, who said, "come back in 20 minutes." I was happy to see the Yelp sticker on his window a few months ago. It could hardly be more well-deserved. Good job Yelpers! read more

Vermont Cleaners a wet cleaner located in Potrero Hill that is certified green by San Francisco city. Their prices are on par with dry cleaners and my clothes have usually come out looking fine. I haven't had any shrinkage or missing clothes. Whenever I come in to pickup my clothes, it seems the same man behind the counter (presumably the owner) always knows where my clothes are on the rack before I give him my receipt. The one thing I really don't like is that they only accept cash. This is a real inconvenience because I typically don't carry too much cash on me so I have to make a special trip to the bank to get cash before I pickup my wet cleaning. Great option if you live nearby. read more

This place has done very little to anger me, and actually has impressed me a few times. This makes it the greatest cleaner in the city by a wide margin. They take credit cards, don't screw up your clothing, and are nice guys. Note: they maaaaay shrink your clothes. the jury is still out on that one. I had a bad experience with Vermont Cleaners recently. They converted to "Green" cleaning sometime this past year, and I applaud their efforts to get rid of bad old chemical-based dry cleaning - BUT what many people may not know is that GREEN CLEANING IS NO LONGER DRY CLEANING. It's WET CLEANING. That's right, WET. This can be a major bummer for delicate garments. I dropped off a very nice ladies blazer to be "dry" cleaned, failing to notice the new "WET CLEANING" signs all over the place. Benson (the owner of Vermont Cleaners) accepted the garment without comment. I picked it up a few days later and my friend took the jacket off on a business trip. When she put it on she reported immediately that the fit of the jacket had changed significantly. I said, hmm, that's strange, I've used Vermont Cleaners for years without any problems. I went by to talk to Benson about it and then of course noticed all the "WET CLEANING" signs. Frown. I went in to speak with Benson and he said, well, we do wet cleaning, it's not dry cleaning any longer, but the results should be the same. I said, well, apparently the results are sometimes not the same. He said, well, the manufacturer of the wet cleaning process that he uses assured him that it IS the same. I said, well, great, what we have here is a garment that was damaged by the wet cleaning process, how can we resolve this situation? And this is where he went from friendly neighborhood dry cleaner to failure as a businessman. His eyes glazed over, his wife took up a silent, frowning position at his shoulder, and he said, there is no problem. I said, well, yes, there is a problem, don't you have insurance or something to cover this sort of situation? I certainly would, especially if I had just changed the basic process upon which my entire business depends. He said "insurance will cover $80". This is a $1100 garment, so $80 isn't going to help. Now, I realize that this is all "my fault" for not noticing the "WET CLEANING" signs - BUT they should have reminded us of that when we dropped off such a nice piece to be cleaned. THEY are the experts on cleaning, not us. And then it gets worse. Benson reverted to straight up (I'm sorry, but it's true) Chinese laundry mode. He started mumbling about how "many people tell me that customers will try to say clothes are damaged..." - at which point I stopped him and asked, "do you really think I'm trying to rip you off?" He said (with glazed eyes) "no", but repeated his accusation that I was trying to do just that. He then proceeded to say that he had spoken with many other people, "the police, a senator" (what?!?!) and they had all said to do nothing. I said, look, my friend, I'm not asking you for $1100. Yet. But you're saying there's no problem, and there is a problem. And your only answer is to accuse me of trying to rip you off? He says OK, let me take the jacket to "my master" and he will "stretch it" so that it fits again. Um, no. You don't "stretch" a tailored suit jacket, even if you a Chinese laundry dry cleaning "master". I said, you take this to your master, and you discuss it with him, and you tell me what he says - but don't make the situation any worse. He returned the jacket to us after a couple of weeks with no changes. We still haven't fully resolved the situation. At this point we have an expensive, shrunken jacket and a very bad feeling about how Benson handled this. 1) My fault for not noticing all the wet cleaning signs. OK, I get that. 2) Their fault for not highlighting the fact that they had switched to wet cleaning, and that we might want to think twice before signing off on using that process on a new, expensive DRY-CLEAN-ONLY garment. 3) Their fault for not carrying insurance that would have allowed them to handle this situation gracefully. 4) Their fault for accusing me of trying to rip them off. Most of all, I just don't think this is a good example of how to run a business. If it was me, and I was switching my cleaning operation from DRY to WET, I would not only put up lots of SIGNS saying "WET CLEANING". I would 1) talk to my customers about it, 2) carry insurance in case anything went wrong, 3) never, ever accuse friendly, loyal customers of trying to rip me off, and 4) at the end of the day, back up my cleaning expertise with an offer to make the situation right, even if it did require me to replace the garment. The goodwill and POSITIVE exposure would be well worth the cost. WET CLEANING BUMMER! read more

I researched yelp to find a good cleaners in the neighborhood. I had a terrible experience - Quality of work and Customer Service were awful. I dropped off sweaters for dry-cleaning only. When I picked them up, they had sewn a tiny hole in my sweater caused by a moth. It looked awful - the sweater was ruined. Very poor quality of work. An inch long raised line (looks like a scar) is now prominent near my collar bone. I questioned them about it, and they said it was their policy. I said where is that posted in the store? Why was I not informed of this policy? If they wanted to do additional work on my clothing - shouldn't I receive a phone call? As a consumer I trusted them with my clothes to dry clean only - they had no right to determine on their own whether they would patch or sew an item without telling me or informing me, as it is not their garment. The owner refused to listen and was very rude. I said I would right a review. He said he didn't care, write that I could write whatever I wanted. read more

I don't know what all these douche-bags before me are complaining about...maybe they should take their hoity-toity sticks up their asses out and hightail their "Armani" suits over to the over priced cleaners in the financial and/or the French Launderers in the Marina. Benson does hold the fort down along with his mom. This place is such a great hole-in-the-wall inexpensive cleaners. I lived up the block by McKinley Park for three years and would take my clothes and linens in regularly and always loved it. They always did a quality job. They do staple your name on your items--they never stapled any of my clothes anywhere other than on the brand/garment care instruction tags. If I left things in the morning, I could pick the items up the same day after work and they never charged me more for same-day cleaning. They managed to get red wine stains out of EVERYTHING I ever brought in wine-stained without ruining the garments (and I brought in A LOT of wine-stained garments), which is more than I can say about other cleaners I have frequented in the financial district. I won't name names. They only take cash or personal checks, however. I normally brought in my formal gowns/dresses and winter coats and they did an impeccable and affordable job. read more

Benson at Vermont Cleaners is the best. It's funny that the only two negative reviews are from guys who look like high-maintenance Marina douches. Aren't you guys in the wrong neighborhood? Benson always goes over my clothes with me to make sure we agree on the best way of caring for them, he only puts tags through the labels on your clothes and the prices are certainly NOT expensive. Also, he started using recyclable hangers! My boyfriend has been going there for 8 years and he does a stellar job with his Nice Collective, Paul Smith and Hugo Boss pieces among others. Just 1 hour ago, I had a dress crisis. The dress I planned to wear to my charity ball date was no bueno, and had to opt for my back up dress, only to find yet another horror... wrinkles! But Vermont Cleaners just saved me from near catastrophe, and was able to stream press my dress in a mere 5 minutes! Crisis completely averted!
