Michiyo's is the best art teacher I ever had. She teaches her exceptional technique but she fully respect her students' personalities. It was so fun getting to make our first potteries together, and the instructor, Iso was such a vibe; I loved her quirky uplifting spirit. She even made me a cute pottery to take home. She did her best to teach us the basics, but when there's a group of 9 people, I think it's just difficult to tend to everyone, so some people were struggling. I don't think anyone in my party left feeling satisfied with their work. It also sucked that a chunk of our booked time was allotted for cleaning up. It seems like that's the norm for pottery classes, but again, with that many of us, we wasted a lot of time just trying to take turns at the sink to clean up. Still, the experience was not bad at this point. We were excited to see the final results once they were glazed and colored. However, everything went downhill after we left the place. When I went there to pick up the potteries, everything was a mess. It was super difficult trying to find everyone's work admist a bunch of other potteries. With zero organization, it's no wonder they lost my sister's. So, they said they'll try to look for it and if they can't find it, they'll make her a new one. While it's nice that they rectified the situation by offering to make her a new one, that really defeats the purpose of taking the pottery class. Why not just go to the ceramics store instead? It would've been better if they offered to give her a free class to make a new one. At the end of it all, they couldn't find her work, so they made her a new one. But the process to receiving that new one took a while.

I arrived early and was able to be seated before the rest of the women arrived. This was my first ever pottery class so I decided to make a mug. Other people in class also made a mug or a bowl or a ring holder. The class was a couple of hours long so we had enough time to design our items as well. Our instructor was Mariah and she was lovely; knowledgeable and such a great teacher. I will definitely take another class here or at the other location in the future.

Don't walk, RUN to Ipanema Press!…read more I had previously met with several other reputable wedding invitation designers and left every appointment feeling lost and hopeless - I thought I was going to have to "settle" on an invitation....but then I walked into Ipanema Press. Prior to meeting with Ipanema Press, clients fill out a short survey about your wedding style, logistics, etc. - Erica even researched our wedding website to learn more about my (now) husband and I. When we arrived for our first meeting, there weren't any books to flip through - Erica had two samples waiting that she thought were our style. I loved both and knew I wanted a mixture of the two. She quickly pulled out a sample...this was our wedding invite! Reflecting on our first meeting, what I appreciated very much is that within minutes Erica had essentially selected our wedding invitation for us - the rest of our appointment was spent designing the suite (wedding program, escort cards, etc.) and finalizing the details of the invitation (there are so many - verbiage, reply cards, paper stock, envelope color/paper/font, etc.). It's those details that made our invitation so special, memorable, and got our guests excited for your special day! At other places, I spent my ENTIRE appointment trying to even find an invite I maybe liked. Throughout the entire process, Adrienne made me feel like the only job she was working on (especially during the proofing process). Adrienne couldn't have been more accommodating always answering my questions promptly and with such knowledge and kindness. Came here for a Handbuilding Sampler class and loved it!…read more Prior to this class, my only knowledge of pottery was on theoretical level for wheel and not for handbuilding. The instructor was really nice, helpful and patient. She went through the basic techniques with the class first. And then we were each working on our own pottery/project, she offered great tips and assistance throughout. It was kinda like adult play doh lol After you're done, they would bake your items for you and you get to choose from 4 different colors: Blues (Darker and Lighter), Earthy brown/yellow ish, white. It could take couple weeks for it to be done and then you could pickup. (I think mine took about a week or so.) Also had a tour of the place. This place has a long history and their oven is the old fashioned gas oven opposed the more modern electric ones. As a result, the glaze and color of each batch would vary and therefore produce unique results!

She is a pottery wizard with tons of experience and has a masters in ceramics - no glass in her house! So it's BYOB. Amazing. The two of us brought 1 bottle of champagne and 1 bottle of white; standard. The class was small and only 2 others where there and they also brought booze: ONE bottle of beer. WTF!? I guess they think BYOB means Bring Your One Beer (and share it). Losers. Anyways, the class is awesome and Jamie provides tons of guidance since I haven't done pottery since 2nd grade. You're given as many clumps of clay as you wish with the game plan to skillfully mold it into a perfectly symmetrical vase/pint cup/bowl -- this proved impossible to master, even with my skills. The end result was often missing a chromosome and needed serious help! Even though the finished products were less than stellar, it was a blast to learn how to mold clay into not art. The booze helped and my pandora station was insanely awesome! We didn't sit near the BYOB rookies and that was a big plus. Sucks to suck. Cons: you don't get to fire the finished result or take it home with you at the end. Biggest negative, you're supposed to clean up your station at the end. No thank you! Minus 1 star. I'd go here again and it's a great date spot or place to bring a group of people who know what BYOB means!

It's so funny that I joined the pottery class thinking that it would be a relaxing activity as a…read moretotal beginner. I was so wrong, but in a good way. There's a lot of technique and skill that will require your understanding, attention and intention to get things going. Be kind and patient with yourself, and remember that practice makes perfect. The teacher is also very encouraging and helpful. I was having some trouble finding balance with how much pressure to use and in which angles to apply them and her patience and continued instruction while I tried to figure it out was very much appreciated. There was a moment when it finally clicked and I made 6 pieces that day, and she was genuinely happy and proud of me for not giving up and that feeling had me floating for the rest of the day. It's 3 hours of labor where you get to use your hands to learn, create and play. You also get studio hours with your package so you can come back in your own time to practice. It's an arduous hobby to pick up, but I'm sure in time it would grow into a calming and therapeutic one. I'm grateful for the experience and I definitely recommend. You might not look like those people in the movies that make it look all artsy and romantic, but in time you definitely might haha ;)
