I'm from San Diego and work in Poway and on 1/19/16 I drove to work and at the end of the day when I left work my car cranked over but did not start and being a little after 4:00 I just thought let me go home and I'll deal with it first thing in the morning. I caught a ride home from a coworker. That night I went online to try and find out what it could possibly be and I thought there's a good chance it's the fuel pump (I have a 99 Chevy Blazer) I have a auto repair place I use in San Diego but that's a long tow in case it does not start the following morning. I googled best auto repair places in Poway and found 3 that looked good. Upon arriving for work I tried my car but same problem just kept cranking but would not start. I called the first two I had on the list telling them what I think it is and those two told me it will cost you roughly $90 to diagnose the problem but we'll put that towards the bill if you have it fixed here. The third one I called he said his name was Jose and when I explained the problem he never mentioned anything about a price for the diagnosis instead offered to send his tow truck (my work was about 2 miles away) to pick up my vehicle for free. I thanked him and told him, "look I've have AAA and have been paying for years and I have not used it in years so let me use them and I'm going to remain at work and when the tow driver gets there he'll give you the key for my car. Just the fact that the first thing out of Jose's mouth was not money, but, hey let me help you if you need a tow, I thought that was huge. From being online the night before I knew about what a full fuel pump assembly would cost and when he called me a few hours later and told my I was correct and gave me the estimate I told him go ahead. Picking up my car later my bill was about $75 less than the quote. Highly recommend this place and Jose (I think the owner) is super cool and not out to gouge you. read more

Poway Auto Repair is the most reliable and honest Auto Repair work you will find in Poway. Jose goes above and beyond the need of his customers and runs a business that produces great work for your automobile needs. My family owns 5 cars ranging from model years of 1972 to 2014 and we take all of our cars to Jose when there is an issue. Each trip to Jose results in the initial issue being resolved along with a thorough inspection of the rest of the car by Jose, to be sure that there are no other car repairs needed. Going to a mechanic as a customer I believe there are two things you consider, will the price quote be reasonable and when I drive my car away after repair, will it be safe? I am confident in answering both of these questions positively because of the work at Poway Auto Repair. Jose is an honest man who gives honest price quotes and you are sure to leave with a smoother running vehicle. I feel so fortunate to have been introducted to Jose and his business. Having a mechanic that you can rely on consistently is not easy to find. I have never written a review before but felt I needed to for my first time visiting this shop. What a wonderful experience. I was having issues with my battery and vehicle starting. Triple AAA did a diagnostic and gave me some other ideas about what may be wrong. They said the battery checked find. I disagreed and told them I was having to jump my car every other day. I went to the shop and spoke with Jose who did a diagnostic (with real mechanic equipment) and determined it was the battery. Unfortunately they didn't have the right battery available for me at this time. He was very helpful and suggested maybe Costco (which I am a member), plus I get $15 back from them for turning in the old battery. I went to Costco got the battery, returned to the shop -which was really, really busy, and Jose had a tech put my battery in, place the old on the front seat for me (on paper as not to damage anything) and charged me nothing!!! He said it was a quick fix, no problem. I do know when or if I ever have a vehicle issue this is the place I will go. Took my car to them to replace front struts that Honda dealer said were "blown" but wanted about $1644 plus $109 for wheel alignment. Poway Auto Repair gave me a quote of $800 for the same work. This was in line with quote from other auto shops. I choose to go with Poway Auto Repair because they were accommodating and got me an appointment ASAP, while the other shops just said to bring the car in in a week or so, because they were busy. When I got to Poway Auto Repair, Albert greeted me graciously and gave the car a free inspection. Turns out that the dust boots were worn out, but struts were ok, not "blown" as the Honda dealer claimed. Not only did they save me the money from avoiding unnecessary work, Albert and Thomas were very patient and explained the situation to me and my wife in great detail. They could have just replaced the struts without telling me that they were ok, but they were honest and ethical. For that, Poway Auto Repair gets 5 stars for honesty and excellent customer service. And by the way, I learned that, unless you're flushed with money, do not let dealers do work on your car without getting quotes from other reputable mechanics. read more

I moved to Poway just over a year ago and I am so happy to have found Jose and Thomas and Poway Auto Repair! Finding a trustworthy mechanic in a new place can be a challenge, but these guys are truly "old school." They are honest, thorough, and have great empathy for working class folks' pocketbooks. As Megan L. said, they do not try to sell you anything you don't need and they never just jump to the most expensive conclusion. One weekend while I was away and my wife's car had a flat, Thomas was apologetic that they might be too busy to help me, but when I arrived home, the car was sitting in the drive with the flat fixed! I called the next day to say I would be working late all week and it would be difficult to get in to pay them before they closed. "No problem," said Jose, "Come in whenever you can." Today, Jose lent me his jump box (no charge), as my wife's car had died in the garage. Jose and the crew are a great bunch of people. They actually care about your vehicles, and their customers. I have a large RV and it's hard to find anyone to repair them. I have been taking it to Poway for things I can't fix myself. Last time it was for AC issues. Jose called me and said he found the leak, but he knows I understand vehicles. He told me I could fix it myself and bring it over to charge the system. Then, he gave me a huge discount on the bill. When I went to pick it up, I went to the RV first to put my dog inside. Jose ran around the front of the RV thinking it might be a thief he saw on camera. Great guy. Honest service is becomming ever more difficult, but you can find it at Poway Auto Repair. read more

My husband and I had car trouble on our trip home through California. We have a 2003 Jetta TDI Wagon. We usually get a lot of grief from our mechanics back home about the complexity and time associated with repairs. So, I was very pleased with the level of service, friendly staff and quick turnaround time. They replaced our thermostat and had us on the road is less than 3 hours.
