This is long over due, I purchased an old used Toyota during the summer and when I first test drove it and took it home, the air conditioner was working very well, later in the day the AC went out. It became a trend that the AC would work in the morning but not during the day and early evening or it wouldn't work in the morning but work later in the afternoon and through out the night. I called Jose and made an appt to drop it off Friday afternoon so he could work on it Saturday. Jose called me around noon on Saturday saying he couldnt replicate the problem of the AC not working and it was blowing ice cold. He said he didn't want to guess what's wrong because if it didn't work then it would have been a waste of money on my part. So i go to pick it up just before they close and he apologize he couldn't find out why it wasn't working and to bring it in later in the week so he could take a look at it deeper. Jose and his crew were closing up shop, closing his bay doors, and locking up. As I pulled out of his parking lot the AC stopped working and it was hot. I turned back around and told Jose. He immediately opened up his bay door and got one of his team members pull it in checking it out. This was surprising because a lot of shops will have told me sorry they're closed and just bring it back next time. After checking it out 20 minutes after they were officially closed they found the problem and we set an appt to fix it the following Saturday. Story doesn't end there, following Saturday comes, Jose calls me again, the part he received had a faulty valve and it was causing freon to leak, and it would have to wait till Monday since his shop was closed on Sundays. Being sad about not having a car and having to rent one I understood the situation. Jose called me Sunday afternoon, he told me my car would be ready in 30mins, which was a surprise for me. Jose took time to try and fix my car on Sunday because my car had a base decal and it would have been time wasted for me to get a temp pass for a rental. Poway Auto Repair went above and beyond for me and will continue to see them while I live around the area. read more

Jose and Thomas are great! I took my Toyota 4Runner in to get an oil leak fixed and they fund two oil leaks! They took their time and kept my truck until they were certain they'd fixed it properly. When it took a little longer than they had expected they offered to supply me with a rental car free of charge. They were honest with me about what it would cost, and they stuck to their estimate. They were very polite, friendly, and professional. I had such great service that my boyfriend took his Jeep in a week later and had the same great service. I will definately go back. read more

DEF. A FAN. I took my car to the Dealership and paid $100 for them to tell me nothing was wrong with my car, even though it stalled every time I came to idle... Then I took it to another place that wanted to charge me $95 for them to JUST LOOK at it, plus they wanted me to leave it over night just for them to look and not even touch it. So left and yelped and found Jose's shop just right around the corner, (literally.) I didn't have an appointment but he drove my car around the block, then looked under the hood, and diagnosed my car with needing a new hose all in the first 15 mins. only charged me $115 for the part and labor! Car fixed an hour later. Would totally go back just next time drop it off, the waiting room wasn't very exciting. read more

We were working on a project near Poway Auto Repair and since there are a number of auto repairs around I decided to go by to fix my trucks brakes. without really knowing any of them I randomly decided to stop by their shop and talk to the owner to see what he says and how I feel about it. I noticed that all the customers their were return customers and knew Jose really well and that made me feel good about my decision. I decided to leave my truck their for a diagnosis with Jose's team and cannot be happier about my decision. When I took my truck in I thought that the brakes were just out and needed replacement and They could've easily done so without me knowing anything. However Jose called me a little after and told me that the brakes were still fine and just needed to be calibrated. I'm still driving the truck with the same brakes after 6 months and everything works great! Took my car to this place when my clutch went. That was probably about a year ago. I now have to replace the clutch again as it is shot and they cut corners and didn't tell me the flywheel was cracked. This shop said that the shop that went to service it said they should have saw the crack the first time they did it. So now I got to put another 350 in the my car this gentleman said he was going to have somebody go over to the shop and look at my car and lied. I've spoken to the other shop they said no one from Poway Auto Repair has bothered to come over and look at the car. I don't like being lied to. I will be taking my business elsewhere read more

Very expensive, they charged $47 for a simple oil and filter change. Oil and filter is one of the easiest repairs and can be done by other places for $15. They also tooks hours to do a simple check up. They did not have the car ready by the agreed upon time so I ended up late to my meeting. read more

Just started bringing my cars to Poway Auto Repair. I really feel like Jose is an honest broker and he and Thomas have treated us really well. Brought my 2006 Civic in due to multiple problems but they only recommended work that needed to be done, which was replacing the shocks and struts. Brought my Trailblazer in this past week to get the brakes looked at. They found a power steering leak and also 25 computer updates that the dealership had never taken care of. They fixed issues on the car that I hadn't even brought up to them. Again, Their prices fall in line with averages listed on RepairPal.com. I don't mind paying for good service. I am so disappointed that I am writing this review. Unfortunately, my husband was ordered by the court to have an IID (Ignition Interlock device) installed on his truck. We booked an appt through Intoxalock with Poway Auto Repair for this morning at 10:00. I have had regular notifications from Intoxalock that said (1) Jose confirmed appt and receipt of paperwork on Sept 13, (2) Jose signed for receipt of parts. I had an email dated 9/21 reminding me of confirmed appointment. As scheduled, we showed up on 9/22 at 9:50 only to be told (by Jose) that they no longer installed IIDs and that he had returned the parts to Intoxalock and told them this business no longer doing IID installs. Upon followup with Intoxalock, they had no record of hearing from Poway Auto Repair about them dropping out of program or return of parts. We have been rescheduled with another business, but I feel compelled to share this review. Intoxalock will be following up with Poway Auto Repair as well. In gave one star, but I'd give a ZERO if I could. Because of this failure of communication, I will out an additional $95. read more

By far the best service I have ever had! Took my car somewhere else because it was overheating. I was told it needed a new radiator and probably had further engine damage. They recommended just buying a new car (due to the engine damage). I called Poway Auto Repair, they went to pick up my car at the other location and towed it back to their shop for free. They called me within a couple hours and said I needed a new radiator and that there was no further engine damage. They had it fixed by the next morning at a reasonable price. So worth it! Can't say I'll be going back. Took my truck in for power window problem and new shocks/struts. They wouldn't give me a quote on replacing all 4 shocks/struts until after I'd dropped it off and even then (4 hrs later) there was no option for different priced shocks. Also had to make many trips there to get all of the window motor/regulator/switch pblms straightened out. On the positive side, very friendly staff and a clean shop. They open at 7:00 and gladly gave me a ride to work each time. Jose (owner) is a straight-up guy who did his best to make things right - refunded some of the initlal costs and took a personal interest in my situation. read more

Do not trust these guys. They will keep your car for days when they had originally said it would be done that afternoon. I was moving and they kept my car for 4 days to do a wheel alignment, new battery, and oil change. On the 4th day, I was told by 2:00 my car would be ready. I sat in the waiting room for 3 more hours. I was never sure what they really did to my car. I had to bring it back about a month later because the wheel alignment was so bad my two front tires had rubbed smooth on the inside. They tried to tell me it was my fault but I said no way. Dealing with them was a complete nightmare. read more

This was my first time going to this shop but Jose and his staff were so helpful and friendly that this is now the only place I will be taking my Mazda. He did not, at any point, up-sell me something that I didn't need AND went out of his way to get the parts as cheap as possible. They took care of some major work in just a few days and it was clear they put in a little overtime to get the job done faster. I was very impressed and pleased. My only recommendation? It seems like the shop could use a secretary to assist in contacting customers to keep them updated on the status of the car while its in the shop :) read more

I've had my 05 Mustang GT there twice now each time for a check engine light. The first time they quickly diagnosed the problem as a bad o2 sensor and had the car done in half a day for a reasonable price. However, the 2nd time around is when they really shined. I brought the car there when they opened and fully expected to at least pay the diagnostic fee regardless of what was found. When I spoke with Jose a few hours later he gladly informed me that there was no problem found and the code they pulled pointed them toward the evap system. They did a thorough inspection and found no leaks. It was probably just a loose gas cap. I was thrilled to hear just this news but when I picked up my car from Thomas a bit later in the day they didn't charge me a thing! It's so refreshing to find a shop you can trust. To me, their prices are fair but much more importantly I know I have found a repair shop that I know won't nickle and dime me or charge for anything unnecessary. Needless to say I'll continue to take my car there and I'll also start bringing my wife's car in when it needs work. I highly recommend giving them a try you won't be disappointed. read more

Stopped in Poway on my to San Diego from LA because I heard a loud noise on the freeway.....Boy was I lucky to pick Poway Auto. At first I was nervous because I wasnt from San Diego and figured I would be taken advantage of for just stopping through but that was far from the case. I probably had to wait 15-20min to hear what the problem was. I had some loose/damaged clamps on the exhaust which didnt cost that much and about 30min to repair. He even told me to watch certain things that might come up in the near future with my type of car. Jose (the owner) was upfront, honest, and all around great to work with.
