We've been coming to Powerhouse for years, and it's always been one of our go-to spots. Last night's dinner, though, was on an entirely different level. The new chef is bringing such a fresh, creative energy to the menu. We started with calamari served with a black garlic aioli that was absolutely delicious. For my entrée, I had scallops over creamy polenta with pomegranate seeds, pomegranate molasses, fresh mint, and lemon. The combination was bright, balanced, and incredibly flavorful. It was one of those dishes that makes you stop between bites just to appreciate how well everything works together. A big part of what keeps us coming back is our waitress. We always ask to sit in her section because her service is consistently outstanding. She's warm, attentive without hovering, and her recommendations have never steered us wrong. She clearly knows the menu and genuinely wants guests to have a great experience. It's exciting to see a restaurant we already loved taking chances with fresh, seasonal ingredients and unexpected flavor combinations. We shared our excitement with our waitress, and she and the chef were genuinely thrilled to hear how much we enjoyed everything. Delicious meal at the Powerhouse with my fiance and a friend, to the tune of cocktails, apps, dinner and dessert. The restaurant was staged beautifully and decorated for a between-the-holidays meal, and even though it was packed there was only a low undertone of voices from the surrounding tables. Our waiter was fantastic and gave honest, informed suggestions that showed great menu knowledge. The cocktails were creative, well-balanced and refreshing; we tried the pomegranate cosmo, winter maple old fashioned, mistletoe mule, holiday margarita, and butterscotch espresso martini. The whipped ricotta and poached pear crostini really stood out and was an incredible way to begin the meal, but don't sleep on the bacon wrapped scallops. I could have eaten a bowl of that sweet corn puree and even though it's a party favorite, the smokey/sweet bacon/scallop combo was even more crisp/tender than most their kind. For entrees, we rattled off some Chilean sea bass (w/ citrus beurre Blanc), linguine and clams, and spicy chicken pappardelle, finishing with a few lunges at their Classic House Made, original 1989 recipe, Peanut Butter Pie. Normally my fiance and I split our entrees; unfortunately, I couldn't come up from the Sea Bass long enough to even offer her a bite. It was really a wonderful sauce, and a perfect amount to swirl around in the risotto. I was able to score the remainder of the clam linguine as leftovers, and even heated up in the microwave two days later it still qualified as a top three clam linguine dish I've ever had; buttery, lemony, garlicky goodness. read more

Positives: Great ambiance and an awesome drink menu. Negatives: my issue is that they need more wait staff. Our waiter was handling inside and outside tables. We were a party of 6 with a 7pm dinner reservation. We were ten min early, but were seated immediately. Drinks were ordered and came out after 20 minutes. We ordered appetizers which condidted of soups, wedge salads and oysters. It goes downhill from here. We were brought bread for the table at 7:45. Appetizers came out a little bit after that and they were very good. Entrees came out at 8:40 and we were one of the few customers left in the restaurant. I ordered a crab crowned filet mignon. Flavor was ok, but the food looked and tasted like it was sitting under a heat lamp. It was cold in the edges and warm in the center. Seasonal vegetables were green beans which were cold and I ordered a rice pilaf which appeared to be white rice with diced carrots. Not what I imagined for rice pilaf. I ate the steak, but not much else. Dessert was great. We had creme brulee. There seems to be a staffing issue as our waiter was all over the place. After finishing my drink and 2 glasses of water I sat empty until the food arrived at which point, the water was filled and I had to initiate to ask for a 2nd drink. I would give this place a 2nd chance but it's a 45 minute drive to gamble with a 2nd experience. But they definitely need to fix whatever staffing issue they had because that experience was not worth $200 a couple. read more

Needed more sauce but the not all the fat was rendered well so you ended up with a few super chewy pieces that becomes unpalatable. The Powerhouse Eatery is one of the best places to get a high end (meaning expensive) meal in the area. The ambiance of a power house was very cool. I had the 12 ounce NY Strip with fries and green beans. The service was great even though Karen was overloaded with tables. The fries were delicious and the green beans were cooked to perfection. My steak, while cooked as I ordered and flavorful, was covered with a reduction sauce that masked the poor cut of meat. For a rib eye it would have had an excessive amount of fat, however for a Strip steak I felt it was unacceptable. The reduction hid large chunks of inter muscular fat that ruined the bite. My dinner companions had the pork and another also had the strip. Both seemed to be very happy with their meal so my steak may have just been a poor cooks selection. read more

So, have you been? To this strangely situated restaurant on a lonely road off the 80 Hwy at exit 273? If you haven't been, read this review closely. Then read it again. I hadn't been to a steakhouse in years. Reason being they were usually a let down. I know steakhouses - in several states. So it's been... interesting. Happily this was not. This was solid. When we arrived we - after driving through the dark road to get there. The building is very cool. Very Americana. There's plenty of parking. So never a worry. My party arrived and were quickly seated. The hostess was very nice. When seated the runner approached us to let us know what flavor infused butter was being offered today. It was accompanying the basket of warm, crusty bread. Today's butter flavor was Peaches and Cream. It was very subtle. The server introduced himself - DEVIN - and recommended the Wyndridge Apple Cider (going with what is on the menu) I ordered 3 of the ciders and asked for a shot of bourbon to accompany each cider. Take note that it is served cold. I thought the cider would make a great hot toddy. But, it was super delicious cold with the bourbon side. Then it began... We started our experience with Goat Cheese/Crostini appetizer as well as the crispy pork belly. They were each a home run. All I kept thinking was...what's up next? Devin spoke to the soups offered today. A French Onion and a Mushroom Soup. I ordered one each of the soups for us to share. Well, BOTH SOUPS were also amazing! The people in my party also enjoyed them. Came time to order entrées... My two guests both ordered the 4oz filet mignons. Both were accompanied by the baked potato as well as Haricot Verte (French Green Beans) I ordered the NY Strip Steak w/ a Peppercorn Sauce, mashed potatoes and Heirloom Carrots. The steak was delicious. Next time I'll ask for a center cut. The mashed were very very good. The Heirloom Carrots - were a bit dull. Crab Cakes and Cajun Remoulade were tasty. A bit salty for my taste. But, when I return - and I know I will be back many times over - I will give them another try. Taylor - the Food runner - was very polite and charming. The busboy was also very well spoken and easy. The Decor is incredible. When you get inside it's almost unfathomable. The outside doesn't suggest what they've done with the inside. It is quite a work of art. There's a second dining area in the back as well as an outdoor patio. Bathrooms are super clean. And I was informed that when the weather gets better - Springtime - the patio is open and is dog-friendly. Dessert time came and we were again impressed. We order the Cupcake Trio, Peanut Butter Pie and a Crème Brûlée. The Crème Brûlée was outrageous. Definitely the table fave. But, the Trio was delicious. The Peanut Butter Pie was a bit too sweet for my taste but, my guests enjoyed it!! All-in all a great time was had by all!! What a cool environment and reclaim of a unique space. We went on a weeknight, and while some of the menu was unavailable, they told us up front to mitigate potential disappointment. I had the maple glazed pork loin, mashed potatoes, and green beans. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. No extra salt or pepper needed. The dessert menu looked amazing but a little weird as the prices were missing, so we skipped that portion. The bread and apple cinnamon butter were good. We plan on visiting again when in the area for work. I wouldn't recommend for kids as there is no kid menu. read more

I've been here many times over the last 10 years and the food is always good. I ordered the linguine with clams last night for the first time and it was terrible. Instead of a light, brothy, garlic, butter and white wine sauce like that dish has everywhere, it instead had a very thick brown gravy that was overpowered with lemon. It tasted like Thanksgiving gravy with lots of lemon in it. My Mom ordered shrimp Francese and it had that same awful gravy/lemon sauce and she didn't even eat it because she didn't like it either. I have never sent something back once in my life but should've sent that back. The other person with us had steak and lobster and as always it was perfect. This place is amazing! From the front staff to the waiter all service was superb! The facility is rich in history with it being an old power house. The seating was very comfortable and very little noise. Music was acceptable playing a variety of pop hits. The food was excellent with a wide variety of items from simple to exquisite items and ample portions. We were full so we got desserts to go and were very happy with our cheesecake selection when we got home. Thanks to all the staff and the chef for making our experience wonderful read more

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the establishment on 10/18. A late dinner seating and restaurant was still hopping. Appetizer we ordered was mini beef Wellington. We would NOT order that again. Dinner was their amazing pork chop with a veggie compote. And filet mignon with cramp imperial topping. Both beyond excellent. The filet just melted in your mouth, as well as the pork chop. The powerhouse lives up to its name with amazing food and drink! David was my first bartender since 2019, hadn't sat at a beautiful bar (or any), enjoying a nice meal, scratch that, an outstanding gourmet meal in ages, and Dave was awesome. The whole staff greeted me and my wife warmly like regulars, we sat at the gorgeous bar area and had freshly poured Troeggs ales, and ordered what drew me in from photos on Google, the French onion soup, which was as I stated earlier, outstanding; the cheese, bread and soup were in total harmony, not salty despite the cheese, the texture of the top cheese and bread layers were amazing, firm and textured beautifully with the melty quality gruyere fully incorporated in to the bread which stayed firm and never sogged up. We also had a super delicious lobster and crab bisque. Next up was a shrimp cocktail and the Alaskan king crab cocktail, which were incredible, fresh and firm sweet flesh perfectly paired with the cocktail sauce. The final stroke of genius is a peanut butter pie unlike any dessert I've had, it was stupendous, I can't find words to describe how delicious it is, we were so obviously floored by this masterful treat that the restaurant manager gave us an additional slice to take home!!! So grateful. The Beatles wrote a song about a dessert so amazing called the savoy truffle, surely John would have renamed it after the powerhouse peanut butter pie if he had tried this, a menu staple since 1989. We loved it so much we plan to get back here in a week when we return to the area, bring the in laws! read more

Mostly excellent food and one of the best margaritas I've had in particular the pomegranate margarita with a blend of salted and sugar rim. This is one of those restaurants worth going to in PA although it is on the pricier side but you certainly get what you pay for and it's a pretty unique location being a former power station it also helps it's one of the few restraints in the area since there's really no competition nearby to compare this place too. I had the lobster Mac and cheese to start which was good with a solid amount of lobster in there, I then got a lobster roll (yes I was in a lobster mood that day) and I appreciated the amount of meat and overall good flavor although I wish it was a bit larger and with more seasoning it was good but could have been cheaper for what it was. For dessert I had the peanut butter pie which was great just the right size and a smooth creamy taste with a chocolate drizzle on top. Overall if you're interested in an overall solid PA restaurant which is rare give this place a try. read more

So there were 6 of us...we had reservations for a Friday night 6:45. Sat right down, no trouble. Ordered up a few drinks. Again, no trouble. We decided to not order appetizers and go right to the entrees. The waitress was attentive and helpful. So here's when things went south. We waited over an hour after ordering to get our food. Other tables who came in after us were served their food and finished their meals before we got our food. And then when we got our food, it was clear the pasta sides were sitting under heat lamps for a while. The skirt steak was cold. We sent it back to at least heat it up. It was fine after that. Veal saltimbocca was overcooked and chewy. The lobster roll was overcooked as well. We let the waitress know what was going on, and she was all apologies and told us that the kitchen is busy tonight. She came back and told us the management will discount us. So for a $275 bill they took a total of $20 off the entire bill. Unacceptable! We will not be back. A shame, too. "Please bring our party of four an assortment of room-temperature food with a side of managerial hostility and don't skimp on the disappointment!" I will explain. Sunday night of Labor Day weekend, reservation for four for 7:15. We arrived on time and were greeted by very pleasant front of house. In the narrative that follows, we have nothing but praise for our waitperson TONI, who went above and beyond in adverse circumstances. We ordered appetizers and drinks (my lemonade arrived in its plastic bottle, a classy touch I wish more restaurants would adopt). Bread arrived, then after an interval, two salads. The women of the party looked at the empty space where there might, in an expert restaurant, have been food. An interval passed, and our truly apologetic waitperson arrived to explain that the kitchen was a man down, there were large parties, and things were backed up. We accepted her explanation politely and waited. I did tell her that my wife was hungry and unhappy, and asked if she could liberate a baked potato, which she did. At 8:10 our entrees had not arrived and we called her over to say that we were distressed, and that we couldn't pack up and go to another restaurant. She looked genuinely unhappy (on our side, not the restaurant's) and checked with the kitchen to tell us that our orders were the very next. A few minutes later, a man I presume was the manager arrived, in a white polo shirt decorated with what looked like Rorschach tests. If we expected him to be nice, to apologize to us, we were dismayed by the tenor of his response: somewhere in that middle ground between menace and suppressed anger. HE had heard that there were unhappy diners, and he wanted to know why. The unspoken assertion was that there was something wrong with us, and he actually said that he didn't think waiting an hour for a meal in a restaurant like this was anything out of the ordinary. Had this been someplace more urban, I would have asked for the check and left. But the options available us were few if any, so we waited. Our sullen manager in the ink-blot shirt comped the one member of our party a glass of house Cabernet, almost forcing it on him. Eventually the entrees arrived: the women of the party said there's were OK, unexceptional. My friend's duck was overcooked, his side dishes overseasoned. My beautiful steak (requested rare) was overdone and everything on the plate was tepid. Toni, our waitperson, was genuine in her apologies. We never saw the manager again. It was, in its own way, quite a relief. He might write to respond to this to say how unreasonable some diners are, but if you check my other Yelp reviews, you will see I rarely write to complain. It would have been annoying to wait for food, to find the results poorly done. But add in the spice of condescension and anger --- imagine our feelings. If you read this, I suppose there's no way to circumvent such an experience. Perhaps being one short in the kitchen is rare. But the manager's behavior was, to us, inexcusable. I am sure there are other restaurants in this area. Eater beware. read more
