Made a reservation for tonight and the gentleman who answered the phone was very nice and I was looking forward to a great dinner. We arrived and asked to be moved to a table. Not sure why we were put in a large circular booth for only two people. The waiter started out nice and we ordered drinks and I had the cockles appetizer. Tasty but cockles are VERY tiny so not a lot of clams. Husband had a mushroom soup which was small and I had a leafy salad. Boring but ok. Husband ordered chicken basil which he really enjoyed. Best chicken ever. I had a beef and shrimp on pasta with a Madeira wine sauce. Shrimp didn't make sense with the sauce but the beef tips were delicious! My problem was with the end of the meal. The waiter never came back until he cleared our plates still never asked if we liked our meals. Offered dessert but no coffee or tea. We spent $72 before tip and no one said thanks or asked about our meal. Great start poor finish. read more

It's a nice feeling to get quality service and meal and not spend an exuberant amount of money for a change. A wonderful quirky building with history, nice staff, beautifully presented and tasty food. We went during lunch and choose eggplant mozarella tower and philly cheestake quesadilla along with fried chicken dumplings and french onion soup. Everything tasted great. We were a little apprehensive on eating at the Powerhouse because of reviews by previous customers, but we have passed this restaurant a few times & always wanted to try it. So here we are & we love it!! It's very inviting & nicely decorated for Christmas. Extremely clean!! Our waitress & hostess were super friendly. The food was served hot & promptly. Oh my has this place gone down hill. Still beautiful inside but this is no longer the only game in town for upscale food and scenery. Waited 35 minutes for two sandwiches and a salad. The Powerhouse Eatery is actually in an old powerhouse hence the name. The interior is very nice. Very open and spacious. We were there this past February for my Father in laws surprise birthday party. We had a lot of people in our party so we were spending a descent amount of $$$. I was shocked and disappointed that they were going to charge us an additional $25 to use a knife to cut the cake. So instead of that we brung our own knife. Maybe that's what places do but, I hadn't ever run into that. The food I thought was very good. I had the Lobster Mac and Cheese I had a descent amount of lobster in mine but both my husband and Mother in Law complained that they only had two pieces of lobster in theirs. The prices to me are a bit pricey for my taste but, with that said....I did enjoy my food so. I'm willing to spend more if it means I'm going to get something good to eat. The place was very clean on the inside and the wait staff were very nice. They did seem like they were trying to rush us through our meal though. read more

Came here after a 25 mile bike ride and boy were we hungry. Gabby our waitress was FABULOUS!!! When it comes to customer service she gets a 10. When we arrived we had a choice of sitting in the bar area or the Main dining hall - we decided to sit in a booth in the bar area because the noise level was not as loud and noisy as the Main hall. The inside has high ceilings and an industrial look we found out that this was once a Powerhouse Station. Now for my our meal - We shared the 16oz Rib Eye (cooked med. rare) steak it was delicious Yum! Yum! cooked to perfection. All and all, if we are ever in this area again we will definitely stop here for a 16oz Rib Eye. read more

Wish I could give an actual review but they would not seat us as we had no reservation. Or I assume that was the reason, she didn't ask if we had one. It wasn't a matter of having to wait, they said they weren't taking any "walk ins" which I have never heard of with a restaurant. It didn't even seem to be busy so it's odd they would turn down a sale. I guess not all restaurants were impacted by covid after all. It must be a terrible inconvenience for them being roadside, directly off I-80. I would think that would provide a fair amount of drop in business for them. read more

Ventured out from our hotel to this wonderful restaurant. The service was wonderful. don't remember our waitress' name, but she had lovely black earrings and was so kind and attentive. Never a bad meal or service. The waitstaff is some of the friendliest I've ever seen in a restaurant. Food is great. I look forward to the season menu updates to try something new but I do hate when something I love is gone. French onion soup and chicken parm are some of the regulars I can always count on to be delicious. Powerhouse is a unique gem for the location. We arrived after a long trip. There was a good crowd in the restaurant with great atmosphere. Our group was seated immediately. The menu ranges from small plates ($10) to entrees ($20-$40). This is not what we were expecting for a quick bite but we had options to get small plates. We decided to jump out of a tree and get the entrée. I ordered the special - Prime Rib - Medium Rare. The meat was a little under cooked for my liking. The outside was fork tender but the inner portion was cold and hard to cut. I assume they had a run on the Prime Rib. Overall - the experience was pleasurable and will try this place again. My group enjoyed the Filet Mignon, Pork Shank Meals. Only some of our party had problems with the Prime Rib. I will go back. read more

Went for lunch with my culinary team. We ordered some pretty simple items. It took 25 minutes for them to come out. The "Chef's" special was a BBQ pulled pork Sandwich with chips (fries), What came out was crock pot pork in Heinz 57 sauce mixed with ketchup. The pork was dry and the chips were oily/soggy. Team mate ordered something similar and it came out with the same results. He also never received his side item. I had eaten here a couple years past and enjoyed the steak medallions, but feel left down after talking the place up. Slow service, dated furniture. The place has such brilliant potential, but perhaps its drawing a different crowd. One of the cooks or food preparers left the kitchen wearing open healed crocks. I used to love the Powerhouse, but the last few visits there have been really disappointing. Everything has been subpar, at best. I used to struggle to find something I didn't like, but now it's the opposite. On my last visit, I had the crab bisque and it was dark brown and tasted burnt. The rice pilaf was so strangely flavored that I couldn't eat it. It was reminiscent of curry, which I like, but it wasn't good and it didn't pair well with anything. Hoping the next visit is better, but if it's not, I think we'll take it off our list, especially with so many other great restaurants in that price range. read more

The atmosphere was cool. The menus offered a variety of nice entrees but seemed expensive. Stick to beer or wine. I ordered a margarita & got patron on ice with a salted rim. Service was ok... our server seemed too busy & had no time/patience to answer questions or check in... which would have been helpful to remedy the drink situation. Dessert was delicious!! Not impressed. I ordered a crab cake and veggies that came with a salad. The salad was good and I was hoping the same for the crab cake but I've definitely had better at a cheaper price. Not a lot of crab, mostly filler, and frozen NOT fresh! Barley any veggies on my plate and they were under cooked. Rice was BLAND! Absolutely no flavor or seasoning! For $20/plate I expected more. I must have passed this place literally hundreds of times over the years as I live only 30 minutes away. But for some reason we had never stopped in. First, the name. It is an old power house (a building that makes electricity). It looks like one too. After reading some of the other reviews, I guess some people don't get it. As for the food. The food was very good. I had chicken parmagiana. The chicken was very tender. It came with a pasta, that could have been a little better and some really good green beans. There was a small plate and a big plate. I got the small plate which was just enough food. The only problem that we encountered (and the reason that I didn't give it five stars) is that the lights flickered while we were there. That normally wouldn't be a problem but it knocked out the computers. Again normally wouldn't be a problem. But 30 minutes later and our waiter still couldn't print out the check. He finally wrote it up by hand. Why he didn't do this in the first place, not really sure. read more

We started off with the French Onion soup. It was good. The French Dip sandwich was fattier than we like. We understand it's prime rib but it was still fatty even by prime rib standards. This place used to be amazing a couple of years ago, but under new management it definitely has slipped quite a bit. Not only have the prices increased but the serving sizes have decreased. Our table ordered food that was "room temp" at best, our mash potatoes were freezing. Once they said they would bring it back into the kitchen and heat it up, they destroyed the meat. They went from medium-rare to well-done with no juices and both looked disgusting. Then the manager came out and offered to remake the dishes. Once the fresh dishes came out they still were cold. When someone spends over $70 on a dish, you would expect them to be fresh and hot when it gets to your table and not like Antarctica. After everything was done, and we lost our appetite they didn't offer anything as compensation for such poor service. Definitely never coming back to one of my old favorite places. read more

Powerhouse Eatery has Great ambiance. The Staff is very friendly and attentive. I have enjoyed their salads, soups and coffee. They also make drinks that's requested that's not on the menu. They seem to cater to your every needed as a customer. My entree is Shrimp and steak tips. They are to die for. Very good. Real bad experience at this restaurant- ordered the colossal crab and when it was placed in front of me it smelled stinky like it was rotted. Mathew was the chef on duty. The waiter took it back to kitchen and he agreed that it did not smell right. Smelled like ammonia. The owner was present and he also noted that the crab was spoiled but the chef disagreed. I now have zero confidence in a chef that can not smell something that is spoiled. And the crab served as a extra on my wife's steak was also spoiled. I like to feel fresh energy in places when I look at the menu and the dish when it is presented to me. The food is not bad quality but there is nothing inspiring about it either. Great place to eat whether you are stopping by for a quick lunch or a fancy dinner. We have been here a few times. The food is consistently great. I have ordered pork, chicken and Cesar salads and they were all really good. Waitstaff is friendly and the place has great atmosphere. This place is all about the atmosphere. It's amazing inside. The food was good, but very expensive. I chose the salmon with gnocchi and oh my - I will be back for that again! And it was only $10 (left side!). The rest of the menu however was ridiculous. My husbands plate alone was $27 and he said it was awful. The bartender at the time was awesome. We talked to him for hours and he was just a great bartender. The staff in General were really nice. So for me, points for the salmon, bartender and atmosphere. Budget wise, chances are I won't be enjoying it again any time soon. :( read more

We've lived ten minutes away for the last 7 years, and this is our first visit. We're sorry we waited so long. The restaurant was tastefully appointed and very inviting. Our server (Krista, I think) was very friendly and attentive. J had the calamari for an app, I had panko breaded oysters over seaweed salad with siracha aioli. Wow! The salads with house made Balsamic and house made Buttermilk Ranch were equally impressive. The Chicken Franchaise was good (J said it needed more sauce) . My Pork ala Powerhouse was very tasty and the lump crabmeat portion was generous. The rice pilaf was "ehh", but that was the only item that wasn't up to par. Considering that we have limited our dining out to wings and beer over the last few years because we have so disappointed with local fine dining, this was a welcome surprise! I decided to order from Powerhouse Eatery since it's the closest restaurant from where I'm staying with decent reviews. The lady that took my order was really friendly. The decor and building was pretty cool. It had an industrial homey feeling. I liked the atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food fell a bit short especially for the price. Seafood salad - not much of a seafood salad but okay. There wasMO one shrimp piece with a bit of crabmeat. The actual salad was fresh though. Hot wings - I think this was the best thing I ordered. It had just the right amount of sauce and spice. Only order if you like spicy food :) Lobster mac and cheese - it taste fine but nothing exceptional. My boyfriend found a piece of lobster shell which isn't a great touch. Penne with meatballs - the sauce tasted like it was straight out of a jar. The meatballs was decent. Veal parm - this was my boyfriend's dish. He wasn't found of it. Overall feeling, I felt underwhelmed by the food. But I would try eating at the restaurant next time. Was out hiking all morning into early afternoon while camping. Saw this on our way home and stopped in around 2pm. Not very busy but it was mid afternoon. After being asked if had a reservation and seeing seating area, We felt very very underdressed upon seeing the formal atmosphere. Was not expecting that at all based on the name and look of the building in general. (I should have checked yelp first, but had no phone on me at that time). Waitress made us feel at ease, but the hostess or owner that was waltzing around in a floor length dress (almost a formal gown) kept looking at us as though she was willing us to leave. She did not acknowledge us with a hello or anything at the door, whomever else was in front seated us. Pretty bad when our 8yr old commented on her being mean. I liked the half plates dishes because I seldomly finish a full plate, of course we had an appetizer too. Kids cleared their plates, bread was yummy (if you ask for balsamic vinegar to add to dipping oil, you'll receive a bland salad dressing not true BV) overall food was good. WATCH YOUR STEP, if your like me and didn't remember you stepped up to enter booth area, you could find yourself tripping right into the woman in the gown whom looked way to happy to see the family in running shorts and tennis shoes leaving her establishment. Don't bother apologizing shell just look annoyed and act as though she didn't hear you! Did I mention our waitress was wonderfully tho? wish I remembered her name. read more

I take no pleasure in leaving this review but our recent experience was so bad we felt we had to warn others. We ordered takeout for 7 people July 4th weekend and spent over $300. Of all of the food ordered, only the hot wings were considered decent. The hamburger was blah and of the 4 that I had from various places was by far the worst. Even the food track at the winery was better. The calamari was rubbery and foul tasting. We threw it out. The French fries were so bad it was comical. They looked like they were soaked in water overnight. I've had fries that were under cooked, over cooked, and burnt, but these were so soggy they were almost into inedible. We ordered two French dip sandwiches and the bread was stale on both. The short rib pappardelle was described as being "cold, under cooked and looked like it was slapped together". The original description given to me was "tasted like s... for $22." The short rib grilled cheese was very dry and the peach salad was full of pits. Some of us thought the duck balls were okay, others thought it was too dry. I finally called and asked for a manager and was told by the person answering the phone that she would take the complaint and took my phone number. She did tell me they had new staff so perhaps that's part of the problem, but the real issue is, other than the food, is that I never was told sorry in any way, shape, or form, almost as if they were used to complaints. I never received a phone call back from the manger or anyone else and it's been almost a week. We have eaten here many times before and as recently as May. And while they forgot part of our order then, the food wasn't bad. It is a shame that we try and support the local restaurants, only to be served food this poor and paying top dollar for it. I don't think any of us will be eating here again (and our houses are only a couple miles up the road.) read more

The food was really good but the prices of the food are way too expensive. I got an eggplant parmigiana for 15 dollars along with wings for 9 dollars. The service was ok, the people are really nice, but they had no straws to drink from and they haven't given me a fork or knife before hand, so I had to ask for them. I only suggest going there for a first date dinner or formal party type of event. But if you are looking to eat a good meal and you want it for a little less, then this place isn't for you to go. read more
