I recently authorized Powers Plumbing to install a Moen Flo Monitor in line with my home water system at the behest of my insurance company. I went back and forth with them as the scope of work changed a couple of times. Actually, I ended up writing the project description as their version didn't make sense for my project. Their final offer was estimated at 5 hours, down from 6 hours. The job was completed in 2 hours. I tried to get at least 1 hour refunded to no avail. Lesson learned: Find an independent, reputable plumber with low overhead. I do not recommend Powers Plumbing for your plumbing needs as they either pad their estimates or their estimators aren't familiar enough in the trade to make an accurate or fair estimate. I will not use Powers Plumbing in the future. The good days of Bob and Phil are long gone. read more

We had Powers Plumbing come out in an emergency situation to snake our clean out. We had toilets overflowing in both downstairs bathrooms and washer not working. The plumber arrived, seeming somewhat out of it, and proceeded to move toilets and use snake machine with NO DROP CLOTHS. He left without saying a word. When I ran outside to ask if he was finished with the job, he answered yes and left. As I walked back into one of the bathrooms, I see that he scraped the ENTIRE TILE FLOOR and carved divots into the wooden vanity with the snake machine. I figured this was why he left without saying a word. That happened on Dec 13. After calling and emailing the shop, and asking to speak with the owners or have them call me just to discuss the matter and how we should proceed, NOTHING. As of January 14th, neither of the owners bothered to call and speak to me or email me. They chose to have their front desk person handle the situation (who was very kind and communicative). They expected full payment for the service and I had to ask for reimbursement for the damage which took about 3-4 weeks to even get. It is unbelievable that they did not have the courtesy to call and apologize or even find out what happened. And now I will have to live through the repair of the entire bathroom floor and vanity. I am SO SORRY I chose them. 0/10 recommend them. Their work is terrible. read more

Update: On another platform they put their same response as here and said I didn't pay. So I've posted photos of the front and back of the check in case they try to do that here as well, because that comment is just as false as their claim that they repaired any of the issues they said they would help with. All they did is take my money and leave me with all the same problems, causing me to double pay when another company came in and did the repairs right away. Here is my original review: Believe all the bad reviews here - I unfortunately contacted them yesterday without reading reviews first and I experienced everything metioned in every bad review. I guess the first red flag should have been that they were so readily available and got here within under 30 minutes from contacting them. We called them in for a leak by our washing machine, a leak by our kitchen sink and stiff toilet handle. We were quoted $169 for the first hour and then they bill in 15 minute increments. The guy was here for 1 hour and 15 minutes. We were charged $169 minimum PLUS 1 hour and 15 minutes for labor. We were not told about the $29.19 consumable fee for gloves, masks, booties and clean up supplies. They guy did not wear a mask, booties, gloves and he definitely did not clean up - in fact he left us in a huge mess. They charged us $80.90 for supplies to fix the washing machine leak. The washing machine leak is still leaking just as it was before they "repaired" it and we need to find someone else to now come and take care of the problem. He did not fix the leak at the sink, said he needed to order parts and would be back another time - for what? Perhaps to double charge us $169 for the first hour and do the same bad job he did before. He did (hopefully) fix the stiff toilet handle. He went to his car for 15 minutes to calculate the bill (we were charged for that time) and paid him the $412. Ten minutes after he left we received an urgent call from the office that he under charged us and they sent us a link to send them another $84??????!!!!!! So they think it is OK to take over $500 to show up, not repair what they were hired to do and leave us in make a mess. And now we have to find and pay another company to come in and repair what we already paid them them to do. Based on other reviews they will most likely respond to this one with a bunch of excuses somehow trying to blame me for them taking my money and not doing their job. But that's just part of the poor customer service - bad excuses disguised as reasons. To that I say - Actions speak louder than words. And as a consumer I feel very ripped off. read more

Couldn't be more satisfied with major plumbing job these guys did in our house. Professional and caring about getting the job done in 1 day required bringing in another worker to assist in finishing the job on a Friday afternoon rather than have us wait till Monday to complete. They kept updating us during the day as to their progress including the unexpected but always present delays that seem to happen on an easy job. Also,cleaned up well and are arranging other contractors who will call us in the next week who will finish the required crawl space replacement of floor beams and another person to replace bathroom tiles and wall board. By my standards If you have a problem with Powers Plumbing it is your problem not theirs. Good reason they are still around with over 100 yrs in business PS. I have to say I have worked with a lot of plumbers in the past, and these guys are a bit of a scam. I would highly NOT recommend them to anyone. The told me that they would come out a provide an estimate. None was provided, the plumber came out did a few basic things and said my problem was fixed. He spent a lot of wasted time just so we could get back his 30 min min which was quoted at $300 and then they reduced it to $160 but still problem not solved - they do not have specialized skills and are way over priced read more

I had a leak in my bathroom and first called Bill Howe Plumbers. They were a complete disaster. 3 different plumbers over 4 days and a total lack of coordination among them and their project manager. Only thing that got done was an asbestos inspection. Switched to Powers Plumbers. They sent BLAKE and the leak was repaired so quickly and easily. He was so professional and knowledgeable (especially for a young guy). He had an assistant who he trained as he worked. I was so impressed with the service. Run! New owner as of 2021. Predatory, fraudulent, staff not qualified. $280hr and shower still didn't work. Sent me a bill for $1000 and their tech never even turned a wrench or provided a part but he wrote a pretty report. My General Contractor did all the actual wrench turning. Before they arrived I called multiple times to request an experienced plumber bc we had already replaced the mixer and faucet and still couldn't get hot water and a guy with 5yrs, with no training in Delta products, was not qualified to solve what my GC couldn't. Their solution - replace the mixer...again... I then asked them to leave. After I balked at paying the $1000 bill, they sent me a bill for $650 and a lien filing and refused to call me back. The owner, Sean Lance, of Lancetown Industries had his dispatcher, Karen, spam me with dozens of texts and emails. So I sent an email saying I would pay for an hour just to stop the harassment. Absolutely THE WORST experience you can imagine. They totally ruined my shower unit and would not take responsibility for the damage to my shower and all the tiles they chipped and even messed up the grout horribly when simply adding a new shower head. When almost every review over the past year is one star, perhaps it's time to look in the mirror and say "we really need to do better" rather than posting detailed explanations of why the customer is wrong. But hey, as their customer service rep reminded me over the phone today, she has years of experience in the field and I don't. Lovely. Anyway, they left our sink leaking worse than it did before they showed up, admitted limited knowledge of that brand of faucet and said the correct parts would be ordered and someone would come try again. A follow-up call today revealed that when they return it'll be another $585. Double argh! To be fair, the guy did clear a blocked drain in the same sink so he certainly earned a good chunk of the $468 we've already paid. However, their officious, brusque customer service rep said they'll only consider my complaint about the apparent overcharge if I put it in writing. Which I did. Anyone want to place a bet on whether they'll do the right thing? Incidentally, the same company was here less than three years ago and charged $155 for the same repair. I understand they may be under new ownership, but how could the cost have quadrupled? If they choose to do right by me I'll spread the word here and elsewhere. But right now I have that hollow feeling that says I've been taken and they're coming back for more! --- They answered my email promptly. That's where the good news ends. They claim (falsely) that the job is complete and still want to charge an arm and a leg to come back and do the job right. No thank you. Nice plumbers, did quick eval and provided estimate on work for 2 issues. Good on service and appointment. When i saw the parts they installed I Googled them. Found pricing and had their hours. When i got the actual bill at end of job i told them it was high by a lot/double at a decent $150/hr rate. Had to call the office. The reception was good but they stuck to the pricing and said jours were$250. Even at that it was way overpriced. They said theyd call to discuss but never did. read more

Very unprofessional company that provides zero transparency around pricing and membership services. They will give you the run-around when you try to cancel their membership and claim they can't put anything in writing. They also claim not to have an invoicing software so they can't provide line-item invoices. Incredibly shady business and they will try to gaslight you over the phone. Three stars because technician was very good. Hourly fee quoted, but neglected to mention a $20 fee for "shop towels and disposable booties." I have patronized Powers Plumbing several times in the past, and my experiences have always been positive. My garbage disposal quit working, so I ordered the exact model I wanted from Home Depot. The day it was delivered, I called Powers to see if they could install it ASAP. The following day, their plumbing technician Diego arrived, on time. He was courteous, knowledgeable, and got right to work. He removed all the old parts, asked me my preference on type of drain stopper to fit in adjoining sink, and then efficiently installed new disposal with no problems. Total time: about one hour. Cost: very reasonable $250. A month later, my new disposal is working great. I will definitely call Powers Plumbing for future needs. read more

$264 for a brief (under 30 minutes) diagnostic that advised us we needed to replace our toilet. $500 to install the toilet that we purchased from Home Depot. Two visits were required because the toilet leaked after the first attempt at installation. $764 total bill to diagnose a problem and install a new toilet. Short version: The new ownership of Powers Plumbing is uniquely bad. I really hope our experience with Powers is a one-off, because it's been terrible. Detailed version: We contacted Powers due to their long relationship with the previous home owners and home we just purchased in Mission Hills. The technician who came out, while patient and competent, was not supported by Powers in any capacity: they could have coordinated the previously known and documented issues at the home to him, but he was completely in the dark. Also, he informed us that the hydrojetting service he ultimately recommended that same day was not performed to a level of sufficiency that would ensure working , safe plumbing at our home. He warned us that if we continue to use the plumbing we will have another flood. For a week, we kept requesting Powers to provide the promised proposal... we finally spoke to Jason, one of the new owners, who basically said "too bad you feel we didn't provide what we promised, we're too busy" Plumbing is a serious issue. These people aren't serious. Stay away from this place if you want your issues taken seriously and treated responsibly. read more

Avoid this company at all cost! I have work contracted out with Powers Plumbing for a client in the past. They did a ok job. So I called them again. The dispatcher only told me they charge $169/hour. Long story short. 1. They did NOT inform me of the driving time they charge. 2. When I arrived on site 35 min after the plumber arrived, he had done NOTHING - the scope was laying around on the driveway and ladder was still in his truck and he had keys from the lockbox in his hand. I stayed on site for a full hour. 3. Then I was charged for two hours of work! WORST OF ALL, when I questioned the 2 hours were charged, the OWNER called me - not to apologize for omission on their part or LISTEN to my observation and account for the hours at all, but to continue to defend for the 2 hour charge. No CUSTOMER RECOVERY. He was focusing on winning an argument. It's really a shame to see that happen in service business, especially with the OWNER of the business - which tells you a lot about the business! To save myself from more angst and misery, I OFFERED TO PAY HIM FOR GETTING NOTHING BACK, just to get him off my back and not wasting MORE TIME on his ego over the business matter at hand. Just got the bill for $220 for a useless visit where the plumber refused to do what he was called for and fixed nothing. My son just sent me pictures of the claw feet and the brackets underneath on the tub and literally the claw feet slipped off the brackets, breaking nothing. There was no shearing off of the claw feet. Neither the feet, nor the brackets, nor the tub were damaged. If the owner of this business actually cared about the customer, he would have reached out to me to ask me if I could send him some images. All we needed the guy to do was lift the tub, put the feet back on, replace and tighten the screws and then hook up the drain.. He refused to do that even though when I called for an appointment, I explained exactly what was required. These people are predatory and pretend to be professional. PS Mission accomplished by a professional plumber willing to lift the tub and put the feet back on. And we did not have to buy a new tub, which is what they suggested we do. read more

PLEASE BEWARE!!! I purchased a cartridge Delta RP46074 for $201.51. I had my person place this in the shower, and it didn't work. He decided to go to HomeDepot and purchased exactly the same thing for $40.00, and it worked perfect. I immediately called the Sales Person within an hour after the purchased. I told him, it did not work. He advised me, they usually don't take thing back. He informed me "We don't take things back. We are not a Home Depot!!! However, he would check with the owner. He called me back and told me I could bring it back but would be charged a $70.00 restocking fee. I thought this was outrageous!!! I told him it didn't work!!! Now, they are going to re-sell it to someone else. By the way, the package was already opened when I purchased it. The person informed me it was in back of a truck and from all the bouncing around and being in the sun, it caused the plastic to crack. Think about it!!! This is a plastic devise with rubber!!! I wish there was a zero or negative star rating. Use these guys at your own risk. I had a slow drain cleared last Fri. That service ended up clogging my line and flooding my kitchen floor. I called that night for them to come back out and got a recall appt at 8-10 the next morning. after 10 I texted to make sure I was still on the schedule and was told they don't work weekends or holidays but could come out on Tues. apparently the people who answer their phones aren't aware of their work schedule. today they came back and fixed it and charged me another dispatch fee and are trying to charge me twice as much as the first time for the work performed. they don't stand by their work, they don't tell there isn't a warranty on it. they don't tell you it will cost you more to fix it correctly. Just off the phone with Crystal at Powers who was a poor and combative communicator and unwilling to understand the simple request to order two rubber parts that are not part of the plumbing, but rather attached to a kitchen faucet -- the pullout spray piece. She said it is their policy to first send out a service tech to diagnose the problem. There is no problem other than ordering the two rubber pieces from Kohler. So instead of providing excellent, or any, customer service, I will instead contact Kohler directly for the part which is what I should have done initially. To think the pricey neighborhood plumber would support their product was a fantasy and Chrystal guarantees I'll never use Powers again. read more

It's so sad to see a once respected company go to hell. They charged me to come back and fix a shower cartridge installation that they botched. I thought the labor would be included in the warranty of the original work as it was less than 30 days since it was completed. But without giving me an estimate, they started tracking the time for the fix. Then they sent me the invoice for the additional hours saying it was a separate job. This is after not having a working shower for a month! They cancelled the calls at the last minute twice during this time. I have known Janet and Allen for over 15 years through our mutual passion for historic preservation. They have done outstanding work for San Diego historic resources! When the plumbing company that had been working on our condo's multiple plumbing issues were finally going to get our bathroom sink back in operation after two months of not having a working bathroom sink weren't able to get us scheduled for another week I said, I know some plumbers! I put in a request through the Powers Plumbing website and within a couple of hours I got a call from Janet saying they had a cancellation and could get someone out there in an hour or so! Jonathan arrived very quickly with all the items he needed to hook our sink back up. He was wearing a protective mask and politely asked if he could come in. I showed him to our bathroom and he got right to work. Before I knew it he was done! He put in all new connections to get our 1.375" sink drain pipe hooked up to the new 2.5" wall pipe. Powers Plumbing is not a reputable company and should not be trusted. We had a minor leak in our bathroom faucet and worked to get the replacement part directly from the manufacturer. All Powers had to do was simply replace the part. When the technician came to our house to replace the part, we advised him that the shelf within the vanity could easily be removed to access the area under the sink. Instead of removing the shelf, he laid on it and broke the shelf in half. His solution was to tie a rag around it and charged us full price for the faucet repair at a very exorbitant hourly cost. We contacted the main branch and they advised they would "try" to find a replacement, which they did not. They told my husband if we could find a carpenter to replace the part, they would reimburse us. Upon fixing the shelf himself having to spend his time and money to buy materials and tools, they said they wouldn't cover the repair. This whole issue could have been avoided if the technician would have taken the extra five minutes to remove the shelf. What is most unfortunate about this event is that we have used Powers in the past on several occasions. We will no longer use their services and will also let our community of neighbors and fellow parents in Mission Hills know to avoid Powers. We are all very busy people and don't have time for this type of dishonesty. read more
