I came to Precise Auto Repair in the late afternoon for some car maintenance. I specifically came to do a tire rotation. I met Tom who was the owner of the business. I was talking to him to see if he had time to do the tire rotation service as well as dropping off my car and picking up my car at a later date. Here's the interesting thing : I was pleasantly surprised during my conversation because wow oh wow the business definitely has a great reputation because other customers were calling the office and interrupting my conversation with him. I was not expecting the business to be so busy. This is a great sign. Tom told me that he could do my tire rotation on that day and that I don't need to come back another time. He was honest and he keeps his word, he means what he says. He was able to do the tire rotation service in less than 1 hour and wow I was definitely surprised. I called and Tom was straight to the point. Come by in 30 mins and I will tell you if i know what's wrong or not. I expected to pull up him come outside tell me what's wrong and him walk away. He took the time to look under the hood, get in my passenger seat to hear the noise, and even took the time to ride in the car so I could show him when the noise happens..he then pulled by car into the garage and had another employee doing things in my car while he listened and looked under the hood.... Will be having the work done by him for sure, Tom was nice but more importantly straight to the point. And at the end of it all he didn't ask for a dime he got out and said if you want me to fix it call me tomarrow. I usually do not leave negative reviews so I'll share what happened and you can decide if you want to go to them... I never will again: Note: car was working perfectly fine when we took it in... NO ISSUES 1. Took our car in (2009 Nissan Altima) to have the transmission fluid topped up 2. Tom told us he recommends draining the transmission and replacing the transmission pan and refilling the transmission fluid 3. He did what he did and we drove it home. On the way home my daughter noticed that the car wasn't accelerating as it had before and was jerking 4. I drove it the next day and the car would not accelerate 5. Decided to take it back to Tom to fix whatever the issue was - it drove fine when we took it in and didn't when we picked it up - AFTER he worked on it He called us back the next day and told us the transmission was busted and needed to be replaced.. When we asked him how that could happen when he was the only person that worked on it... A. He first said - just bad luck B. He then said that my daughter (18) probably did something when she drove it home from his shop !! C. He blamed us for not understanding how cars work After going back and forth he agreed to refund our money $800 that we paid to him Not only did he NOT take responsibility that he probably messed up (again car was driving fine when we took it in and wasn't when we drove it out) but he blamed my 18 year old daughter for probably causing it, and treated us like we were idiots A car we thought we could y it se for another 2-3 years is not working now!!! Honest, quick, and reasonably priced. I went to get my serpentine belt replaced because another auto shop said it was going to break soon even though I only had 15,000 miles on. They popped the hood to take a look at it and said the belt looked to be in good condition and that replacing it was unnecessary. They even replaced my dead car key battery quickly and cheaply. All the reviews are true. Tom passed my litmus test for auto mechanics: when a different mechanic said I needed new pads and rotors on both my front and back brakes, and Tom said no-- I only needed them on my front brakes, my back brakes didn't even need pads. Tom and everyone at Precise are super motivated to quickly fix your problem for a fair price. Several times they've charged me nothing when they've been unable to fix my car's problem--or fixed/resolved something minor in minutes. read more

Owner is very helpful and works to save $ when possible. Had an engine light came on and he help me read and reset the code. He said it was triggered by gas evap, which is usually the gas cap getting too old and not able to seal fully. He took a look at the gas cap on my car and said it's too worn out, and advised me to source a new OEM gas cap directly. Most other shops would have charged $125+ just for that diagnoses and tag on a 40% markup on a replacement gas cap. He didn't try to do that and thus I am grateful. read more

I found Precise Auto Repair on Yelp and I couldn't be happier with the service and quality of work done on my car! I've had my car for 11 years and had quite a few overdue maintenance that had to be done. There was a weird creaking noise coming from the front of my car ever since I got into an accident a few years ago, so I decided to get it checked. I, not knowing anything about cars, tried to explain the problem to Tom but he was just as confused as I was. I really appreciated that he took the time on multiple occasions for me to swing by and have him diagnose my car until we could replicate the problem. After an inspection, Tom informed me that he used OEM parts and gave me quotes for all the maintenance and repairs including labor costs. My car, being as old as it was, had quite a few things that needed to be done. For comparison, I called a few other shops in the area and found Tom's prices to be reasonable. My car was finished within a day and I couldn't be happier with the final result. It runs almost like new and I'm over 100k miles. Thank you to Tom and his team for FINALLY finding the problem in my car and not settling with telling me my car was "fine" and they didn't "see" anything wrong. I have been coming here for years, through 3 different cars, and will always come here if I have a car, period. From regular maintenance to my own clumsy mishaps, Tom and his family take great care of me, and are reasonably priced! They always call to confirm if they discover any work that wasn't on the original work order that could be taken care of in the same visit. If there is something that still has life I it, but needs to be monitored, they let me know. If they replace anything, they show me the old part and where/ how it failed. Just a PSA to other customers who have tires from Costco. Don't get them rotated here and/or double check if they do. Costco will push back on its tire warranty if you don't bring it in for tire rotation directly with them every ~4-5K miles. I've had the habit of going to Costco for tire rotations a week or two after oil changes here. In the past, I had tire rotations done complimentary but I'm not sure if it's standard and if they told me every time. This time around, it was $10, which isn't much but an unnecessary expenditure. I'm pretty sure I've unknowingly gotten the tires rotated here in the past, just to get them rotated back at Costco weeks later. Just to be clean and to save money, make sure to not get your tires rotated here. Now I have weird situation with Costco to settle...it would be silly for me to pay $10 again to get that rotated back just to have Costco rotate them back.....bad on my part for not realizing this at the very moment. Most of us are not auto experts by any stretch of the imagination, so when you find an independent shop that is straightforward, honest, efficient, and priced less than the dealership, how can you not be impressed? Brought my car in for a synthetic oil change and filter replacement and the equivalent service at the dealership would have been priced 20% higher. I was in and out in 30 minutes and Nhat explained they did a check on the other systems and everything looked good, something(from my experience) the dealership would never do voluntarily or at least not without charging you for it. When you buy a used car, what's the first thing you gotta do besides all that paperwork stuff? Take it to the service shop for an inspection of course! Because even if the dealership reports that everything is in clean working condition, you can never be too safe - especially if you're life depends on it. That's what I pretty much learned during the last week or so. A couple Sundays ago, I got a "new" used Honda Civic. It was my first time getting a car myself, and looking back I'm sure there are a lot of things I should've done differently. But one choice I'm glad I made was to take it into Precise Auto Repair almost immediately after I got the car. I found this repair shop on Yelp and, seeing that the reviews were good, I decided to give it a shot. Precise Auto Repair was located almost right off both Central and San Tomas Expressway, about a few streets down from Santa Clara University and the airport - so uber convenient. This place was open Monday - Saturday and they took walk-ins. At first I kinda struggled to find the shop since it's wedged between a sea of repair businesses, but luckily there is a small sign along the street. Protip: If you're going on Saturday, come maybe 30 minutes before they open (like 730am) if you wanna be the first one. Chances are, people will come early. I stopped by a bit before 8 and had to wait behind a couple people. I was approached by Tom, who was very nice and he said he'd be able to finish checking my car within a few hours. Good thing I came by Precise because it turned out that most of the fluids in my car (e.g. transmission, brake, etc) needed to be replaced. It wasn't something that the dealership had done and they even assured me I needn't worry about replacing any fluids. Nevertheless, the repair shop recommended it and I was like "let's just get it over with." Took a few more hours for them to finish up on my car and I was able to pick it up around 2pm. According to Tom, everything else looked good and he told me when I should revisit the repair shop after 15k miles for routine maintenance. Overall, the experience was fine although the cost was pretty hefty. To top off all the fluids and change the oil, it ended up costing around $400. I'm pretty sure some of the things they did weren't an absolute necessity but since this was a "new" car, I wasn't going to take chances. My brakes were squeaking and I brought in my car for inspection. Tom looked at the brakes and told me that I had 35% of the brake pads left and there is no need for replacement at this time. Took the Magnum to Tom about six weeks ago - needed a new water pump. Service was quick, price reasonable. Went home happy! Flash forward to Monday 8/27/18. Grabbing lunch in Campbell, get back in the car, start it up and it makes a really bad sound...bad. Have it towed to Tom's place. My beautiful 12 Year old car with only 65,000 miles on it had blown a valve into a piston - blew the engine. I don't know how he did it, but Tom has replaced the motor in 5 days, and was surprised at how fair his pricing was, again. This was a disaster but Tom is a true blessing - balanced it out!
