They felt bad about the large lump sum and offered to break out the services into multiple visits (I declined, but appreciated their thoughtfulness). Wow! It does not get better than this. My car was making a grinding noise and I figured I needed new brakes. After finding Precise on yelp, I took my car in. I left my car and was told they would call after looking at it, before any work was done. Not even 30 mins later they called and told me my brakes were still good and saw nothing that needed repair. MUST READ! SCAMMERS! While this auto shop has great reviews and is loved by many people, I would be extremely cautious if you choose this establishment. Make sure to do your research. I have taken two cars into this auto shop on separate occasions. In my first experience, my check engine light lit up and after doing some research online, I decided to take my car into this shop to get it looked at. I took my car to the shop in the morning and about an hour later they gave me a call. They told me that I had a bad transmission (reasonable since it was my grandmas old car) and that I had two options: 1) Keep using the car until it completely died and then replace the transmission with a new one, or 2) Replace the transmission right away. Since I purchased the car for cheap from family, I decided to make the expensive call and replace the transmission right away to avoid future problems. They charged me a couple of grand to replace the part and I was on my way. About a month later, the car began having trouble AGAIN and the check engine light lit up AGAIN. During this time, I was down in Los Angeles and decided to take my car into my mechanic who I used to go to before I moved to the Bay Area. After looking at the car, he told me that many of the cylinders were cracked, they had been cracked for some time, and that the engine would need to be replaced. Considering that I just replaced my transmission, I didn't feel the need to make another costly repair on the engine and decided to sell the car for parts. Did Precise Auto Repair know about my cracked cylinders and not tell me? Did they want to wait for me come back to them and make another expensive purchase? Was it my engine the whole time that was bad and not my transmission?? It only gets worse... NOW THIS IS WHERE IT GETS BAD In my second experience, (new car) the normal car check up light lit up and I went back to Precise Auto Repair to get my car looked at. I dropped my car off in the morning and about an hour later they gave me a call. They told me that once again, I had a bad transmission and that it needed to be replaced. (Sound Familiar???) They gave me two options: 1) Keep running the car until the transmission failed and then get it replaced, or 2) Replace the transmission right away. ARE YOU SERIOUS?? I don't know if they remembered me and thought they could pull the same trick on me and get me to spend thousands of $$$ for what was possibly a faulty transmission or they just thought I was another young individual who knew nothing about cars. Anyways, I told them I would keep using the car and didn't want to pay for a new transmission. I went and picked up my car and they didn't even charge me for looking at it, or forgot to charge me, or didn't want to have me on their record in case I decided to call them out for SCAMMING, who really knows. I took my car into another auto shop (Precision Techniques) and asked them to look at my car. They said that nothing was wrong with the transmission or engine. All that was wrong was a bulb socket was melted and had to be replaced. They did a full inspection and recommended a brake flush and that was it. PRECISE AUTO REPAIR WILL TRY TO SCAM YOU! If they realize you know very little about cars and are willing to pay whatever to get your car fixed, they will tell you anything to get you to purchase parts and labor and pay them $ (even show you the part). If you do currently use them as your mechanic, I recommend taking your car to them and seeing what they say is wrong with your car, then taking your car to another auto shop and compare. You may have been getting scammed for years! Edit: Since Precise Auto Repair diagnosed my transmission to fail in two weeks, it has been two and a half months and my car is running great! (I drive from San Jose to San Mateo and back for work 5 days a week) 2nd Edit: As you can see from the photo, I was a real customer back in December of 2013. I suggest you do more research before you call me out for being a liar. Yes, you did show me what was wrong with the transmission and that it needed to be replaced. That is not the issue I am presenting here. The issue I am presenting is the story with my second car. While I do not have physical proof that your advice for my second car was to replace the transmission, (I could look up phone records, but is not worth the time proving my point to someone who won't even look back as far as 2013 in their records) it's awfully suspicious that you recommended the same treatment for both of my cars. You recommended that I purchase a new transmission. Another auto shop said nothing was wrong with the part. You recommended that it had 2 weeks of life. It has been 2 and a half months and it's running smoothly! Also, read more carefully. I wish Yelp had platinum stars to award, because without a doubt I would rate Tom, Viet, and the crew at Precise Auto Repair with 5! I have been coming to Precise Auto Repair for almost three years now and the "boys" never fail to impress me. I was tired of being just a number at the dealership, not to speak of feeling ripped-off each time I got my jacked up bill from the dealership. My father was a master electrical mechanic for Mercedes Benz, so I know enough about the basics to know if I'm getting BS or not when I go in for a service. Tom and Viet offer excellent customer service, and never make me feel stupid when I ask questions, or need something explained to me (as a woman that is very important to me). They are honest, and will tell you exactly what needs to be repaired. They understand people are on a budget and will offer guidance on what is most critical to repair and what can wait a bit. Electrical problems are usually tricky to resolve. I twice had electrical issues, once with the rear AC blower in my Sienna, and then another time with the power sliding door. Precise efficiently troubleshot and fixed the problems without me having to take out a second mortgage on my house which would have been the case at the dealer! Tom has kindly checked out two used vehicles for me on very short notice, offering me the added sense of security knowing they have given them their stamp of approval. I needed to change by brake pads on front, i constantly heard squeaking noise from my brakes. So, Viet and Tom polished rotors and changed pads. Since i was there, i changed my oil, and transmission fluid and air filter(was really dirty). After they changed brake pads, Tom did a test drive to check everything is ok. They also warned me that i need to change one of the tires, and showed that it was quite bad, so they put good tires from rear to front. So, finally, front side brake pads and polishing rotors+oil change+transmission fluid change+air filter costed me $250. I find it very reasonable. And as all people who left reviews i have the same opinion, they are honest guys. I highly recommend them to everyone. read more

Had come here when I experienced issues with my brake pads. Spoke to Tom who was very patient and listened to everything on the phone call and agreed to change the front brake pads and turn rotors and also check the rear brakes for cheap price. The shop opens at 8:00 am which is convenient for people who work because you could drop the car off in the morning before work. I love Tom & Viet, these guys are awesome. My brother first introduced me to Precise Auto Care back when it was on Lafayette a few years ago, and when they moved to Precise Auto Repair, I followed them. As a woman who often goes to car shops alone, its difficult to find honest repairmen who are not trying to fool me into paying more money. I've trusted Tom with my car, and have gone to him for almost every service imaginable. Their honesty is a huge perk, but their customer service is even better. Tom always greets me by name and even asks about my brother. Once I came in for an oil change and told Viet about a loose flap underneath my car. Viet replaced the oil at regular cost and fixed the flap for FREE. Another time I had one headlight and one taillight out. They changed the bulbs and didn't charge labor. As someone who has gone to Kragen and changed car bulbs myself, I knew what the true cost of a bulb was, and I knew that they really were fixing it for free. As a result of their fab service, I've reccomended about 4 friends to Precise Auto Repair and they are now regulars, just as I am. The only thing I would note is, it is a bit difficult to find their shop. They have purposely stationed big banner/flags out on the driveway so you can see the shop. I found out about Precise Auto Repair through Yelp. I brought my car in this past Saturday morning to have my brakes looked at, as the steering wheel was shaking everytime I hit the brakes on my Corolla. Tom and Viet were extremely helpful and knowledgeable in diagnosing the problem (bad rotors). I was given a fair quote of $150 to have the rotors grinded down and brake pads replaced. They got me in and out in a very reasonable 2 hours. Then the price I actually paid was lower than what Son originally quoted me, so even better. BAD: No shuttle service provided to pick up car. I don't write reviews, but Tom and Viet at Precise Auto Repair are too good to not share =) During a drive from LA to Santa Clara, my check engine light went on and my car started rattling. Not good. I arrived Friday evening, nervous about whether I would be able to return Sunday. I HAD to find a place to get my car fixed asap-- and on a Saturday, no less. I chose Precise 1- bc of the yelp reviews, and 2- bc they were open at 8 on Saturdays. They did not disappoint. Tom diagnosed the problem, very patiently and thoroughly explained the process and the expected costs (which were REALLY reasonable) and fixed it. Viet took the time to not just replace the spark plugs and wires, but went beyond with a little more TLC to lube/clean my key and ignition bc he noticed it was a little stiff. Waiting was painless in the clean, wifi-enabled waiting room, and yes, the bathroom was also clean. It was a good sign when another customer came in and Tom knew him by name. =) Thanks Tom and Viet! Tom used to work in "Precise Auto Care" on Lafayette. I was very happy to know that he finally opened his own shop. I took my Lexus in for a timing belt work and the job was done within a day. Not only he changed the timing belt, he change the air filter, replaced the water pump. All these work cost $750, compared to the estimation of $1000 I got from other places. He's also very honest about what need or NOT need to change to save me the most money possible. When I asked for a quote for the control arm, he not only checked with the Toyota sales man, but also with the deal to make sure he can get the me best price for the part. The best auto service I've had experience with. They will do everything you, fast and with an amazing labor quality. They never do unnecessary work. Prices are really affordable. In fact, they even do small things like bulb replacement for free! My personal experience. I have an Audi A3, and I always do oil work and service checkups at Precise Auto Repair; no any problems ever. Once I needed a brake check (after a two week parking I had a feeling they don't work as they should). The Precise guys took a test drive, and advised NOT to replace anything as I initially wanted, except the brake liquid. They did that, very cheaply, and the brakes work awesome after that. I had a flat tire once. The guys ordered four tires and replaced them the same day, and also they replaced a bulb for free. Most recently, my car started making terrible squeaking noises. Turned out, a rock stuck in a brake pad. So they did the work for free withing an hour, because I needed the car soon. Amazing. Also they checked and fixed minor engine issues, fast and cheap. After reading so many good yelp reviews, went to this place since it was close to work. Needed an assessment of brakes since the steering wheel vibrated while braking. I went in without appointment or prior call at lunch time. Met with Viet, the manager who immediately test drove the car with me. Within 10 mins, he gave me an honest assessment of what he thought was wrong along with approx cost. No gimmicks, no extra selling Left the car and the brake pad replacement and brake fluid flush was done in a few hours. This place is easy to miss! They've got a tiny sign facing the street and their office is all the way in the back. The white building with rows of garages is where it's located. My air pressure light came on and I thought I had a nail...the guy there checked everything out for me (no nail, just low air pressure, go figure), pumped some airs in my tire and reset my light for me, all for free! I've been coming to Tom and Viet for service on my 2004 Suzuki Forenza for about a year now, pretty much ever since I moved out here. One of my biggest worries with moving to a new place was finding a good, trusted mechanic. Thanks to Yelp, I found these guys, which fit my criteria perfectly (trustworthy, value-oriented mechanics, within walking distance from work at NVIDIA). It definitely eased the transition to life in a new city to know that I had someone I could trust to keep my car in great running order, especially since it was starting to get to that point in a car's lifecycle where things start mysteriously going wrong. It's great to be able to drop my car off in the morning and walk straight to work without worrying about getting a ride back in the afternoon to pick the car up. These guys know their stuff. The service is always prompt, I'm always surprised at how quickly they're able to complete a job. Tom always goes the extra mile to call around a few places to find me the best price on parts, and labor rates definitely seem fair for the quality of service that you get. They understand what it's like to be a customer on a budget, and they always present me with all of the available options so that I can decide how much money I want to spend and what I'm willing to put off and live with for awhile. Some services I came to them for in the last year: - oil changes - outside lock fell into my driver's side door - flat tire & bent rim - faulty camshaft position sensor - brake lights stopped working and couldn't shift my car out of park, needed a new brake switch I haven't gone to them for any major transmission or engine work yet, but my car's always come back to me in better shape than I gave it to them, and I'd definitely trust them with more major repairs too. I wish I had known about them early enough to get my 60k service done there. That was the first thing I needed to do after I moved here, so I went to the Suzuki dealer for that, and I'm pretty sure the dealer totally ripped me off. I'd recommend these guys over that overpriced dealer service any day. Tom's opinions are always helpful, and he let me know when I was at that point where maintenance costs on my car were starting to outweigh the cost of a new car. Turns out that parts for '04 Suzukis are hard to find, and pretty expensive in 2012. Thanks to his advice, I traded in my Forenza this past weekend while I was still able to get *some* value off of it (the dealers were complaining that they didn't want it, and kept lowballing me on the trade, though I was ultimately able to negotiate a fair price for it), and I got myself a brand new Mazda 3. I'll definitely keep coming to these guys for all non-warranty repairs on my new car that I can manage to avoid the dealer for. read more

My regular mechanic said it was a loose gas cap but never told me to replace it nor did he replace it for me so the light kept coming back on and I failed smog. I had to add my five-star review to the others for Precise Auto Repair on yelp. They replaced the spark plugs on my Lexus, while I waited, for half of what the Lexus dealer (and my old shop) wanted to charge me. Changing the iridium plugs is pretty involved because of where they're located. Tom and Viet invited me into the shop so I could see what had to be taken apart and then explained the condition of the old plugs to me. They answered all of my questions and the job was done on time and as quoted. These are my go-to guys for car maintenance now! read more
