I came into the shop because my car was making a high-pitched whining noise whenever I put my car in reverse. I suspected it was my brakes but I wasn't sure. I also needed to get an oil-change. At first, I was thinking about going to Jiffy Lube or even Midas, but I find that their work is better for simple fixes. So, I went onto yelp and found that this place had an abundance of 5-star reviews, and for good reason! While my inital wait to be seen was 20 minutes and it took a little over 2 hours to get my car fixed, it's not enough to bring a star down in this review. Most auto repair shops assume that I'm not on a need-to-know basis about what's wrong with my car, ahem, Honda dealership (THE worst). So I definitely appreciated the time he took to explain why my car was making the noises, breaking down the cost, and telling me what would happen if I waited to fix the problem. Oh, also, separate from reviewing the shop, Tom is pretty awesome in my book. Not to put him on blast, but I was trying to figure out the name of this guy (later, found out his name was Otis) in The Walking Dead and he took the time to look up the exact episode for me to listen in on what the dude's name was. The investigator from the B.A.R was baffled as to why Tom was the one providing all of the answers when he wasn't the original mechanic whom performed the service initially. Precise Auto Repair, what would I do without you. I recently moved from Berkeley and use to go to a guy up there to fix all my car issues. When I took it to Tom for a diagnostic, he told me that there was some warning signs on the car. He showed me what and why. He walked me through it and told me my old mechanic was always using cheap parts, which is okay, but doesn't last. Anyhow, Tom prioritized what's important and why and thus, I only worked on the necessary things. He was very helpful in walking through everything with me. And he doesn't use cheap parts. Since then, Tom and his crew has always been helpful and quick in making sure my car gets fixed ASAP. I never had to take my car back to him after he worked on something. Highly recommend! read more

I just got back from this shop and the young guy helping me out was completely honest and didn't even charge me for service. I thought my car was leaking oil after I had run over some construction equipment just thirty minutes earlier, and brought it to this shop. When I brought my car in it was immediately serviced. I was prepared for some bad news and was about to pay anything, but the guy who took care of it said it was just water leaking from A/C condensation. He didn't even accept any payment, even though he spent about 15 minutes loading my car up and checking underneath to make some quick repairs. This is the only mechanic shop I would recommend. I have a 2002 Civic that has an over heating problem. I've done several replacements myself and still no fix. I took my car here and Son, who I believe is the owner, looked at it and told me everything he thought. He said "Okay I 'think' I know what the problem is, but I can't say for sure if that's what's wrong because I haven't taken your car apart yet. But from what I have seen in cars past and from what you are telling me, I'm almost 100% sure it's a BAD head gasket. Not blown, just bad. But again I can't say that for sure because I haven't seen the inside of your engine." I was blown away at his honesty! He continued to say several times "I don't wanna tell you it's a head gasket problem just to make you pay for the replacement, because it's an expensive project! Yeah it would be good for me and my business but it's going to cost you a LOT of money." I left his shop with his advice, his knowledge, and his trust. For that reason, I have brought several of my friend's vehicles there to have different things replaced. This place is totally legit. I can see why he has 65 reviews and all 5 stars. Tips for better service: They don't take appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis. If you require a major repair (belts, pumps, etc), it's best to let them know ahead of time. Drop off the car in the morning, let them know the service, your contact info, etc, and come back when they say it's ready. Just updating that I still go to this shop for my car's needs. I take my '98 Lexus GS here for the standard oil change and whatever else I may need done. They've changed my timing belt and I've gotten my AC charged here as well. They'll be doing the AC repair very shortly, which I'm sure will be nothing but great. When I had my belts changed, Tom called to let me know that there was a part that I could choose to replace due to XYZ. It was going to cost more than the original estimate. He could move forward without the replacement, but recommended not to. I agreed to the service and the extra price. I know that changing belts isn't easy, so I expected there to be some extra charges that I hadn't anticipated. I really enjoy coming here. They let me know that the tires were balding and that someone rotated the tires in some odd fashion. So I listened to them and went to Costco afterwards to get my tires checked! I just had my second experience with Tom and Viet from Precise Auto Repair after they did a great job on my 2005 Prius back in December. This time, they serviced my 2004 Honda S2000. I highly recommend the shop. They are very honest and careful with their work. The car came back better than ever with smoother shifting, firm brakes, and quieter (no more noises from rear differential). They didn't even put a single mile on it while it was there, and they also went out of their way to ensure that I got exactly which fluids I wanted (AMSOIL engine oil and differential fluid, Honda OEM transmission fluid). I went in here to get a headlight replaced on my car (apparently GM challenged themselves to make it as difficult as possible to replace a headlight). I called around 2:15 pm and they closed at 3, but they still told me to come on in. When I was there they found that the connector from my car to the headlight was corroded so bad it stopped working. They actually had a replacement part on hand, and replaced the broken connecter for a very reasonable price. The mechanics also made sure to let me know how involved it was just to get to the headlight, to which I replied: "That's why I didn't want to do it..." This all took till around 4:00 pm, so they actually stayed late to take care of it for me, very professional, will definitely be back. read more

My car was making a scary noise while driving - I took it into Precise Auto first thing on Saturday morning and I was helped very quickly. He rode in my car with me briefly so I could point out the noise and he knew right away what might be wrong. They called me about an hour later with a diagnosis and an estimate of cost, and cleared it with me before proceeding, which I appreciated. When I went to pick up my car at the end of the day, it was ready to go. Moreover, every mechanic knew my car and what was wrong with it - it was nice to see that the whole shop was involved in its repair. They even brought me into the garage and showed me the broken parts and explained how the parts should work normally. All in all - great service, reasonable pricing, would totally come back. There is a reason all the reviews are 5 star here as I found out during my first time visit. I was convinced of worn out brake pads or rotors. Tom took it out for a ride and inspected it and then showed me that the rotors were rusted due to the car's exposure to rain and snow. He said that the brakes were great and would last a long time and that the rotor can be replaced the next time around, the car was fine to go with the slightly rusted rotors. While running the smog test on my the car he suggested several repairs as he inspected the car - all the repairs were valid as he showed me what an ideal rotating belt should look like and what mine looked like. He even fixed my Costco wipers for free. The oil change he suggested seemed right as the car is much smoother now. The cost for all services was right. The service was perfect. Tom and the other mechanics seemed like mechanics whose judgment you can trust. I used to go to Alvin's in Milpitas before when I lived around there and now I'm glad I found a shop I can trust close by. My new one stop shop for all my auto needs. read more

Tom has been my mechanic for many years. Just like the other posts, I have complete trust in the team for my two cars. The team is always patient, knowledgeable and very easy going. Great and fast service for the mundane oil changes. And for a couple emergencies, Tom and the gang got me off the hook with ease let alone saved money & time: A thief tried to hotwire my Mustang and completely made a mess of ignition cylinder and the programming wire. When I got to the car, I can't even put the car key in to start the car. I guess the thief gave up after finding out the key is programmed. Anyway, I called Tom right away and sent him a couple photos. Tom was patient on the phone and explained to me what work needs to be done. He also gave me a rough estimate on how much it will cost. He recommended his locksmith and I made the call. He spent all this time even though he doesn't work on ignition locks and programming the car. His locksmith also has a lot of respect for Tom and helped me out quickly and charged me a very reasonable price when I said Tom referred me. The other time my front tire blew and I needed to get it replaced. But the tire was a specialty part so most auto-shops don't have it. The places online charged ridiculous amount and will take weeks to deliver. I dropped the car off in the morning and right away Tom sent his guy to his supplier to pick up the tire. It was replaced in the afternoon for only the cost of the part and a small labor fee for just putting the tire in - even though they had to make a special part request for me and also swap the back tires and the front tires. I've been a customer for around a year, and I feel I've finally found a place that can be trusted. If there's one thing about Tom that stands out - honesty. This is a rare trait in the business. I've had a 350Z & a G37 brought it multiple times, mostly for scheduled maintenance. Tom is very honest with what's wrong & what's good. He's also very honest with pricing & will upfront show you how much each item costs. My G37 has a small leak in it's water pump. Rather than push me to change it (or worse, change it without informing) Tom was honest about how long before it would cause problems. He himself suggested I wait a few months till it really needs to be changed. And this is just one of multiple instances where Tom, at his loss, recommends what's best for the car owner. There's one instance that sticks to mind. My G37 was stuttering (I thought it was something with the injector). When I took it to Tom he tried looking for issues but since he didn't find anything amiss & the car was running OK, he didn't charge me anything, not even for inspection. read more

Tom took good $130 dollars from us and told me our car was not worth fixing, had several (apparently) leaks. he said he fixed one big leak but the others he said was not worth. Not worth for him maybe but sure was for me and my little wife. I figure there's four key things you look for in a repair shop: ability/knowledge, price, speed, and customer service. They've got it all. I called in the morning and asked if I needed an appointment. I was told to just drop the car off. Later in the afternoon I rolled up in a tow-truck with my car on the bed. Tom diagnosed the issue immediately (fried alternator) and showed me both the low voltage and the burning coming from the alternator. What made my jaw drop was what he said next, "Do you want to wait for it?" I didn't expect it to be fixed for a day or two. He told me he could have it done in an hour. He gave me a quote on the spot, and it was less than a dollar different from what I actually paid, including tax. And judging by internet prices, it was a reasonable price, too. I dropped the car off at 2 and picked it up at 4:30. While I'd rather not have my car break down, if it happens again, I'm taking it back here. read more

Tom and his team are very knowledgeable, patient, and trustworthy - not a combination you can find easily especially for mechanics. I took my car in here a few times and each time, they made sure to understand the problem and checked my car for me. Then, they give me a diagnosis of my car and each time, they have been very thorough going through what was wrong. I have never felt like they were dishonest or tried to rip me off - one time, I brought it in and they told me there was nothing wrong with the car and to keep monitoring the situation which is rare since some mechanics might give you a bogus reason to get a repair to make money. I've also brought my car in and they told me I did not have to get a repair immediately and that it could wait. On top of this, they are very professional and friendly, so I never fear for anything. Got my Honda diagnosed as it got a check engine light. I didn't have the OBD II Scanner at the moment, so I decided to bring my car to Tom. He is very professional, quick, and honest. There is also another scenario when my clutch pedal behavior is abnormal and I found hard to shift into reverse right after a cold start. Got my clutch slave cylinder replaced and they were very quick and did not break any surrounding part. Highly recommend this shop. i've come here for a multitude of auto repair concerns regarding all my vehicles and tom and his guys have never failed me. i'll share with you my most recent experience... i drive a 2005 civic as a commuter. have been since i got the car back in '05 and never once in 10+ years have i needed to work on my brakes. well, finally my brakes were starting to give so naturally i called PAR, spoke to tom and he told me to bring it in so he can take a look. standard response from tom and one i love because it's part of his process. he wants to look at it, run diagnostics and try to pinpoint the problem. he's not going to do work he doesn't have to do nor is he going to offer solutions that don't need to be offered. a practice more mechanics need to adopt IMO. now with my brakes i was thinking i needed to get new rotors and break pads, but upon inspection he tells me i only need to resurface it meaning grind it down. no need to replace the rotor or pads. tom saved me close to $300 in parts and labor that many mechanics would be glad take without a blink of an eye. this is just one of many instances where tom showed me he cares more about my return business over his bottom line. well it's worked tom. i will always come back and will always refer a friend or colleague your way when they're in need of auto repairs. tom's a smart man and a hard worker and so are all the other mechanics at the shop. they all share the same mindset and drive. it's a rare breed and one i'm glad to bring my business to till i die. bring them your business! these guys deserve loyalty in return as they'll gladly offer it without hesitation. read more

Awesome work by these guys, genuine guys and they don't charge very high, It's kind of difficult to get guys in this industry to whom you can trust blindly, I have taken my car here couple of times and every time they did superb job in given time and charges were very nominal.
