My husband and I have been bringing our cars to Tom & Viet for a number of years now but I've been too lazy to write a review. Let's put it this way: I usually keep a stack of their business cards in my wallet because I believe in the work that these guys do that much. Sadly, I ran out and now my husband and I have new cars...so our relationship with Tom isn't like it once was....and it kind of makes me sad. However, neither one of us took his advice in buying a Honda or Lexus...so I'm sure we'll rekindle our relationship soon enough. We haven't had to sell a vital organ to fix our cars nor have we been pressured into fixing something that didn't need fixing. Now if only I could find a plumber as honest and hardworking as these folks. ;) read more

Came in due to a sound when braking. Needed new pads on the rear wheels. He didn't try to up-sell me or suggest any other things than what I asked for. On top of that his estimate was only $1 off from the after tax total. They got me in and out in ~2 hrs. Great service. read more

If I could rate this 6 or even ten stars, I would. Tom and co. are as good as they get...ethical, honest, decent, fair...all of the things we all assume we could never get in a mechanic. I've suggested this place to more people than any other place - ever. To share one specific story: I had shocks put on a Mitsubishi Montero and then I drove it pretty hard in Death Valley, as a result I blew one of the shocks. Tom insisted in swapping ALL of the shocks and charging me only for the difference...he's unique and great like that. Love these guys. read more

I have been servicing my Toyota Corolla since 2 years. And it is been great experience. Tom and viet are professionals and know exactly what you need. For my long trip I just visited them and they did complete vehicle check without any charge. Not because they offered it free but overall I am very happy with their service since last two years. Also they don't unnecessarily recommend oil change or any other replacement. But educate us why not necessary at that moment. They deserve 5 stars. read more

Best mechanic/shop I've been to: 1) honesty - straight shooter, you just feel like they're honest (even my wife agrees and she's got a 6th sense about ppl) vs. the dealership feeling where you feel they're trying to maximize their profits 2) speed - brought car in yesterday morning, got an immediate assessment (no wait whatsoever) and car was ready by afternoon with repair done (this was not a small job either). 3) price - transparent and as good as it gets 4) quality - to be seen as we just picked up the car, but based on our interaction with them and everything I read here I wouldn't anything less than stellar read more

Tom's is an excellent mechanic but what separates him from others is his honesty.

Been bringing my car here for oil changes and other minor work for over a year, and have always had a great experience. Their rates are reasonable, they're able to get things done quickly, and they don't try to scam you with unnecessary repairs. The waiting room is small but offers free wifi. Once I brought my car in for an engine maintenance issue, and picked it up a few hours later. On my drive back, the dashboard lit up with all kinds of strange warnings and signals. I called Precise back up and said I was bringing the car right back, there was something really wrong. They said no problem. They tested out what they thought was wrong and spent 30 minutes right then fixing it, and then hopped in the car with me to drive around for several blocks to confirm the issue was resolved. Happy to have found trustworthy car maintenance folks, and have referred several friends to them. read more

I developed a "noise" in my 2003 Saturn Vue and decided to take it to Precise based on the rave Yelp reviews and comments they had received. Precise did not disappoint! Tom listened to my description of the problem then diagnosed not only that issue, but also a developing maintenance issue that could have been VERY expensive if not addressed. I authorized Precise to do the work they recommended. The cost was very reasonable, and Tom actually recommended against another pricey maintenance action that I had suggested because he assessed that it wasn't necessary. My Vue got fixed quickly, and when I picked it up I was impressed with the spotless garage where the maintenance was performed. Tom showed me the parts that had been replaced and, sure enough, the preventative repair that he recommended would have been a catastrophic engine failure in the immediate future if I hadn't fixed it. These guys are awesome. I went there because my headlight burnt out. The guy popped the hood, took out the bulb, and only then realized they didn't have the one needed. He told me to drive to an auto parts shop down the road, told me what bulb I need, and said he'd put it in for me. So I did and he wouldn't take any money for the service. I'm really impressed. My car has been making a clicking sound every time I brake in reverse. The brakes have also been grinding and shuttering when I brake. This has been going on for months, and I finally got around to taking it in today. I've been living in the area about 2 years and I don't have a regular mechanic I take my car to. I haven't had problems with it, so I haven't needed to take it in. I looked up mechanics on Yelp last night, and found Precise. The reviews were great! I went in today and explained everything to Nhat. He looked at my brakes right away and offered to hop in the car for a test drive. He explained that the problem wasn't as bad as I thought. He said that it was up to me whether or not I wanted to get work done on my front brakes. He was really nice, explained everything thoroughly and didn't try to get money out of me. Just honest business. It was a great experience and I would recommend Precise to anyone. I will be back! read more

It was my first time experience to have my car fixed at Precise Auto Repair. Tom changed the steering rack of my Murano after taking his time to diagnosis carefully what making noise from my car. He did great job. My car came back much better and the noise is completely gone. They also charge at very reasonable price too. I hightly recommend this shop to everybody. read more

Thanks Yelpers! Other than oil and filter I had no clue who to repair the power window regulator on my car. The dealer quoted me an outrageous price for the repair. I called Precise yesterday for a quote, and less than a day later, my window is fixed for $200 less than the dealer quote. read more

Went to Tom with a check engine and gear stuck situation for my 2000 Benz , got the vehicle all set in just 2 days. I am pretty sure I would have got with a rip off bill with any other place (forget the dealer anyways) He is very knowledgeable and you can rest assured your vehicle is in good hands. I brought my car here twice and both of the times they did a wonderful job. Their price is very reasonable too. The first time was a slowly leaking tire. They lifted the car up and checked the tire was alright but there was a dent on the inside of the rim. Suggested me to replace the rim. Next day, I brought the car back after the new rim arrived and I was out in an hour as promised. No more leak after that! The second issue was a rumbling sound near the front wheel area. He thinks it's the wheel bearing. Spot on. After replacing the wheel bearing, the noise is completely gone. read more

Came in a month ago at the suggestion of my son. I needed to have my soft braking checked and fluids changes. I don't drive a typical car as my ride is a 4WD Suburban. It had soft braking for about a year now and I knew it had to be the brakes, Brake Fluid or master cylinder. My dealer would have start with new brakes, rotors and any other items that they could change in a day. Precise Auto Repair made some excellent suggestions which I agreed with doing step by step. Precise would drained my brake fluid and the master cylinder down to almost nothing and bleed the lines. In addition I needed the rear diff, front diff, transmission and engine oil changed. I also ask they replaced the rear shocks. When I got a call later that day saying that the work is under way but the shocks are hard to find and costly. They suggested an alternate which was also costly. We talked and they suggested an inspection would do since there was no leaks nor damage to the original shocks. We agreed not to swap it out but rather wait until it shows signs of leakage or damage. That works for me. When I came to pickup the Suburban I was surprised the work was completed and the soft brake I had before had disappeared. The work they did is excellent and the advice they provided is honorable. We are from Illinois and my son goes to Santa Clara University. We needed to drive our car from Santa Clara to over 3,000 miles away in Illinois. The car needed a rack & pinion steering and new brakes. Tom explained to my son the problem and even showed him the faulty parts. He also talked to me on phone and kept the costs very reasonable. Oil change and inspection After trying with other Precise Auto Repairs (they were all fully booked and couldn't give me appointments or better times), I called this one and they were so friendly and told me I could come right away and would do my Oil Change and Inspection within 30min (others had told me wait times of 3-4hours). My husband and I had just moved into the area and after driving from Tucson, we started noticing some issues with our brakes. We took our car to Tom the next day and just as we suspected, we needed new rotors. Tom was very knowledgeable in explaining everything to us and was able to take just a couple hours to fix the issues that same day. He even adjusted our parking brake free of charge because he noticed something was a bit off with it. Incompetent or Dishonest I had a bad experience with Precise Auto Repair. I had major oil loss on the commute to Santa Cruz going through the hills, that appeared to come through the timing belt cover. I had my car towed to my home in Santa Clara and looked up auto repair as I had moved out here in January from Nebraska, and haven't used a mechanic yet. Precise Auto Repair seemed to have solid reviews, so I called to see if they were available, and they were. I stopped by to have it checked out, he found the oil loss coming from the timing belt and told me he would let me know after he inspected, but quoted me around 750 for a timing belt replacement. He calls me later, telling me the camshaft seal was the wrong size/a cheap fit, and he found it losely put into place, and that he would need to do the entire timing belt service. I agreed without calling around because I needed to drive on the coastal highway the next day, I showed up, paid for the repairs, he had the old parts for me to check out. Here's where the problems started. The parts all looked brand new, as I had just had the timing belt service done 20k miles ago. I didn't question it at the time, and contacted the original mechanic from Nebraska. After believing it was his work, he informed me there is no way that I could have driven not only across the country, and in addition to that commute through the mountains every day with an "improperly sized seal". He even sent me the seals part number, which I checked and is the OEM seal. I was then told it was the PCV valve clogged, and built up back pressure when I was downshifting (it's a stick shift). I checked with another couple mechanics, one I called on the road, another I was able to talk to by just pulling in. They both agreed that would be the problem, and the one I stopped to see even showed me how to remove the PCV valve, and told me I can swap it myself. It was incredibly easy, a 5 dollar part, and something that John should have fixed. In addition, both mechanics, and my original, said it should have only been roughly 200 to reset the seal, or even change it. I did not need to be charged the entire service, I did not need as many new parts as he sold me. I went to try and talk to him about being reimbursed, he became extremely rude, and only said that "That's what the service is" instead of justifying why he did the entire timing belt. Later that day, he called me not to apologize and say he reconsidered reimbursing me to the cost of what the seal should have cost, but to tell me to google the work and he didn't know why I was upset at him. I will not go to Precise again, and I will not recommend his work. read more

Tom is AMAZING!!! He is honest, transparent, and extremely fair-priced. I don't know much about cars, but I came in to get new brakes after I heard my front breaks start grinding yesterday. I called in first to get an estimate, but when I came back Tom walked me to my car and advised for my front brakes I needed new rotors as well. He showed me the ones in the back and said they were about at a 5-10% life left and suggested I get them changed too, but that it was up to me and that if I changed them now he could resurface the rotors to make them last longer. He called me for the first al quote and also noticed I needed an oil change. I could tell he was very upfront so I went with all of his recommendations. He said it'd take about half a day and he promptly called me when it was done. When I came in he showed me what he had done, and explained to me with the old parts the bad condition they were in. All I will say is please bring some cash to give him a tip because they don't allow it, but I don't care. It is SO hard to come across honest mechanics and when you find one you don't let them go. Found this place via Yelp, and have been quite impressed. It is hard to find a good mechanic, and ever since both my cars went out of warranty, I have been taking them to a mechanic close to my home. Found Precise close to my work, and that turned out to be much more convenient. I don't have enough good things to say about Tom and Viet. They did a great job on both the cars. Changed both front and rear brakes, recharged the AC, transmission fluid, and oil change, all for a reasonable price, and within a day. Viet even dropped me off at my work in the morning. We took our CRV to precise auto repair because our AC condenser exploded. Tom and Viet were really great about explaining the issue and were able to do the job for about half what we were quoted elsewhere (they said some of the extra labor wasn't required and were able to get a good after market condenser). I have been taking my 1999 Honda Civic SI here for a couple of years now for oil changes, brake pads, distributor cap/spark plugs/wires, and other maintenance tasks. Super friendly service and very reasonable prices. I recently took my car because it wouldn't start due to a bad battery. They installed a new one at cost and did not charge me labor. I was in Santa Clara visiting family this weekend. i noticed my breaks started to make squeaky loud sounds. I was traveling alone with my five year old daughter and needed to return to Orange County on Sunday for work. I was scared and didn't know what to do. I yelped the closest auto shop to my aunt's house and saw that Precise Auto Repair had good ratings. Precise Auto Repair took care of all my problems and made my life so much easier. I thought i would have to leave the car overnight, but Tom told me that my breaks were worn out and that they would be able to fix everything in 2 hours. As we waited patiently my vehicle was done in 1 hour and 45 minutes!! Their service was great and they were also very nice. I totally recommend everyone to come and get their vehicle repairs here. Tom and Viet are the best! I would give them 10 stars if I could! Their new shop is very clean and spacious. But better than that, Tom and Viet are just really nice, honest guys. We live in Fremont now but we still take our cars to Precise because they are the only mechanics we trust after 3 years. I took my old car to Precise right before the start of Labor Day weekend and they were nice enough to wait for me to get there even though they were ready to leave for vacation. My battery connector was corroded and instead of trying to rip me off and charge me for a brand new battery, Tom showed me how to clean the corrosion and replaced the connector for me. Great mechanics, great service, great price! You guys really need to charge more for all the work you do! read more

When don't fix things i say need fixed just because i said. they could have charged me about $1500 for stuff i didnt need, but instead told me i didnt need it (and i didnt, that was 18 months ago). also they fixed a loose thing on my friends care (that dropped me off) for free on the spot. read more
