I called Precision to install a garage door and motor at my mom's home in San Lorenzo. Precision came out and inspected the garage and took my mom's order. An install date was set up for two weeks out. I tried calling to confirm and got a call back saying it would have to be delayed because the ceiling was vaulted and they had to wait for the installer with a taller ladder. The day before the new install date, I got a call saying they could not do the install because the ceiling was too high and considered "commercial" height. There was no mention of this during the inspection. They recommended a commercial company. The commercial installer told me that the height should not be an issue for most residential garage door installers. He recommended I try a different residential company. I did. All Bay Garage Doors had no issue with the ceiling height and did an excellent job. Precision lost out on our business. I highly recommend All Bay, but cannot recommend Precision. read more

This morning when I tried to open my garage door, it would only lift a foot and a half from the floor. After further investigation, I saw that the tension spring had broken. Since it was broken, I could not get my car out of the garage. Big problem. I called Precision Door Service and they had a great team, Matt and Bill, out at my house within a couple of hours (it is a Saturday.) They did an excellent job assessing the damage (there were also loose bearings and cables, etc.) and fixing it quickly and efficiently. Matt and Bill were courteous and professional and went the extra mile by applying a strut support for my sagging garage door. I'm a first-time customer and I am so pleased and impressed by the service I received today from Cory Wikstrom. I woke up to a broken door this morning and he was a genius, a wizard, and my hero today! Here's the story. I had my Genie Pro installed by another outfit about 15 years ago and have been loyal to them ever since. They are really, really wonderful people, but they are not open on weekends. So, today, early on a Sunday morning, I went to my garage to find that the door opened fine but then would not close. After trying the things I knew how to do to try and fix it, I found Precision online. I had no idea there was even such a thing as 24/7 garage door repair. I think I called at about 9:15 and a very nice and professional young lady told me that someone could be out to my house from 11-1. And, she said, the technician would call me 15 minutes before his arrival. Cory did call and arrived a few minutes before 11:00. He was so cheerful and nice, and got to work right away. In about 7 minutes, he diagnosed the problem as a loose wire inside the unit, and lickity-split, he had the thing fixed and working beautifully. I couldn't believe it. I was so happy, that is all I can say. Really, really, really fantastic. He was just so GOOD at finding the problem and then easily fixing it, 1-2-3. WONDERFUL. I called for an appointment and the wonderful woman on the other end set it up for the next afternoon and I was given a four hour window to get my broken garage door assessed. Our garage door broke--of course late on a Friday afternoon. The company that had installed it closed up at 4 p.m. until Monday morning so I went online to find somebody who could come out. I called Precision Door Service and got Paul Brinkman; he said he could come at 8 the next morning. He showed up on time and saw what the problem was immediately and fixed it. We asked how the motor on the door was doing. He said it was ok but getting on in its life expectancy. We asked about options. He explained several possibilities, including ones that contained batteries that would keep the door functioning during power blackouts, of which we have had several. We opted for a new motor. He had other urgent calls but was able to come back later in the day and install it. He was helpful, articulate, funny and totally careful regarding wearing a mask, social distancing and completing the work and payment with minimal contact. He was wonderful and a total professional. read more

Called to check if Precision Door Service could replace the weather stripping on bottom of our wood garage doors. The person quoted a $49 minimum service charge, and said if the stripping needed replacing, the technician would replace it. The technician showed up, didn't want to talk about weather stripping, told me there were problems with the door and began throwing out numbers of up to $1,000 to replace springs, rollers, and more. Only interested in selling as much as possible. Pure salesman. I told him I called about weather stripping, he said he didn't have any on his truck, would need to order it, the cost was $12 per foot (which would be about $300 to replace a rubber strip on two doors). Not impressed with this company. Update: 11/21/16 Shortly after I posted the Nov 8 review of Precision Door, I received a voicemail from the owner (Pat) who asked if I could give him a call on his personal cell phone. I returned the call and talked with Pat about the service call. He apologized and said he hoped to learn from my experience. They want their service techs to listen to the customer. He asked if there was anything he could do to fix things. I respect Pat for giving me a call and appreciate his interest in understanding what happened. Although I wasn't happy with the service tech that day, based on the call from Pat my impression of the company is changed and much improved. read more

Get other quotes before you chose Precision Doors. They charge at least TWICE as much as their competitors. They come really fast, which is nice, but they start with one price to just fix the door so it operates again, and they double the price for parts. My original quote was for $425.00 to get the door operational. Then, they added another $400 if I wanted new parts. I went ahead with the new parts and the total was $905 and change. That price seemed high but I trusted that the person was being honest and fair. Next day a friend of mine said the price was grossly outrageous. I contacted another door company to find out I was charged double what they would charge for all new parts. I immediately contacted my bank and stopped payment on the check I had issued the day before to Precision. I contacted Precision Doors and told them their prices are outrageous and that I felt I was scammed. I told them I'd pay the fair price of $425 or they could come to my house and get their parts back. The owner did the right thing and discounted $400. How many other people have paid twice the price and don't even realize it? Had I not been alerted by a friend I would have been one of those consumers that got ripped off. Unfortunately, I gave a decent review on their website BEFORE I realized I had been taken. Apparently, Precision Doors has a reputation in their industry for over-charging. Charging double is an absolute scam on unsuspecting consumers. Do yourself a favor and check out other companies. read more

If I could rate them a zero I would ... if you're a single woman do not go with them. They came out and charged me $425 ... the guy said to fix it correctly it would cost an additional $1,200 ... I was in the middle of remodeling so I said I couldn't afford it but he said it was fixed. I was gone for 3 days so no one used the garage door but when I returned it was not working again ... the same guy came out. He seemed upset to have to come back. He said its a new problem and along with the other quote he said I also needed a new motor so the cost now to fix it CORRECTLY is almost $2,000. First of all he was totally rude to me and I felt because I was a woman he was trying to get me to pay more. I called in and his supervisor finally returned my call and I told him what happened and that its still not working. He said regarding the other estimate he said that's what they tell their service guys to do ... basically go for a basic but then add additional stuff. Again, if you're a woman stay away from the company. I paid $425 and I still have a garage door that does not close. read more

We had problems a bit over a year ago with our old, 1 piece, garage doors (broken spring, misaligned/rubbing, house shaking when it closed). Called several garage door companies. Michael Fahey promptly responded, gave us a rough quote, sent out the estimator the next day, finalized the bid, and less than 24 hours later both doors were installed. A good and fair price (yes, I did get multiple quotes, but would have had to wait *weeks* for doors from the others), quality installation, and professional workers. Then today, a bit more than a year later, we had a problem with the single garage door closing, it worked manually but not with the opener. It started a couple of months ago but as of this morning would only close manually. I called a bit before 8am and someone answered! They said a technician would be out between 10 and noon (yes, ~ 2 hours later from the call). The tech (Matt) arrived a couple of minutes before 10. Diagnosed the problem (one of the hinges), swapped it out, and was done in about 15 minutes. Warranty repair, no cost (I thought there might be a $50 service fee). Wow, I really liked these folks before, but am amazed even more with the fantastic customer service and warranty. Highly recommended read more

This is an updated rating. I originally rated Precision lower because of issues with the service technician and pricing. It wasn't a very good experience. To Precision's credit, the owner called me to discuss the issues and seek an equitable solution. He made a sincere effort to resolve the issues and he deserves credit for the effort. He did not ask for a rating change, but I did change to reflect his effort. I would recommend consumers obtain clear pricing before a technician is sent to avoid similar issues in the future. read more

My garage door spring broke. Found them from yelp. The technician come in quickly and said we can replace just the broken spring. But he *highly recommend* replacing the rollers because they looked wobbly too. And he looked at my other garage door and said that will go out soon and he can replace it too. Since we can't get our cars out, it is a small emergency for us. We go with option #2 without checking other shops and paid dearly. This is a classic cheap, mainstream, premium pricing model, mixed in with the urgency situation. I know that probably we will be ok if we just fix the minimum necessary but a broken garage door is highly inconvenient. I know my decision was already predicted by the company. The company knows this and behaves (and prices) accordingly. He did the job quickly and professionally. He also readjusted the motor and the rails. Overall it was a great job. Overall I'd say this company has got the perfect execution. I may even use them again. I hope next time I'd identify the situation before it becomes an emergency so I'd not be in this situation again. read more

My homebuilder installed my garage door improperly. When it stopped working in February 2018, James and Precision got it working again. But it still needed reinstallation as it was gouging the surrounding wood frame. The builder approved having it reinstalled and asked if I wanted Precision to do the work? Of course! So James came back this week, and removed the door, moved the framework, and reinstalled the door. Then he installed wood trim surrounding the garage door to seal the edges, which also greatly enhanced the look of the door from the street. Again, thank you Precision and James for excellent service and work. read more

TOTAL SCAM. These guys charge $50 to give an estimate. Funny thing is they cash the check and then never send you an estimate, even after you contact them directly to remind them they owe you one. My garage door motor failed last fall, so I called Precision to install a new one. Since the springs and sensors were also about 20 years old, they replaced those as well. Mario was the tech. He and his partner worked effciently, explained the new setup (which includes an iPhone app) and all went well. After a few weeks the garage doors wouldn't close when the sun was hitting them. Mario came out again, and got the doors working, but after a couple months, the problem returned. The next time Paul came, adjusted the sensors again, and this time the fix has lasted. At every point, when I called Precision I got to speak with a live person and they followed up quickly with a convenient appointment. All of their service people seem well-trained and responsible about cleaning up, putting things back, etc. They may not be the cheapest out there, but they do quality work and understand good customer service. read more

This garage door has been the single worst home improvement expenditure I have ever made. I spent about $3,000 on a door that hasn't worked properly since the day it was installed. I have had to call technicians six times within the first year of installation. Once, one of the large springs that help the motor move the door up and down broke loose. Once, the lock mechanism failed. Other times, the door moves only an inch, or makes a loud bang like metal on metal at one of the bending joints, or I get an error saying "excessive closing force detected" as the door struggles to open or close. One of the failures occurred on a Monday and when I called, I was told they could have someone there on Wednesday! Really? My cars were going to be trapped in my garage for two days? Screaming and yelling got someone there sooner. The technicians come, can't figure out exactly why I'm having so many problems, make some adjustments, say "it look's like it's working now" and leave. Two months later - another problem crops up. To add insult to injury, every time I call for service, I have to listen to the recording touting what a wonderful 5-star company they are. I wish I had my old 1970's garage door back. At least it worked. read more

He did arrive a bit later than expected, but he informed us by telephone (before his scheduled time) that he was on his way but stuck in heavy traffic. Our appointment was made for a broken spring. When he arrived he started by examining and showing me the problems that we had to address. When we agreed on what was needed to be done. He quickly went to work. It reminded me of a NASCAR pit crew tech. He spent extra time listening to my concerns about the operation of the door and did some adjustments and lube all rollers after the springs were installed. He cleaned up after his work and removed all the fingerprints on the garage door also. : ) James W. arrived at our home around 5:35 pm and was done before 6:40 pm. Based off other yelp reviews, my husband called late one evening when we heard a spring snap and the garage door wouldn't budge. They were very friendly on the phone and sent out a technician the next day. Jame W called me to give me an eta on our window and ensure he'd be there despite the late time of day. He was thorough, informative and made sure to not just fix the warn parts (not just the spring) to make sure the door was safe and operating the way it should. I wanted to believe their ad ( same day service, evening and weekend availability, diamond certified rating, award accolades ) but sadly I was fooled. I was visiting my daughter when we heard a loud bang in the garage. I suspected a broken garage door spring as we could not lift the garage door open even with the manual release. This was on a Saturday afternoon around 3 pm. Precision came up after a Google search and I was able to live chat with someone. Despite their ad claiming 24/7 she replied that the earliest someone could come out was Sunday between 2-6pm. We didn't really have a choice, as other places just had voicemail for a weekday return call. We received a confirmation email- so I thought everything was set. On Sunday my daughter was worried when no one was out and it was already 5 pm. She called the phone number on the email that guaranteed that someone would answer and lo and behold- no answer. I contacted the live chat (Jessica) again and she offered to call the tech to call my daughter with an ETA. My daughter finally received a call around 8 pm but she said he sounded sketch and said she would reschedule. Needless to say she used another company who did show up as promised. read more

Precision came out promptly to repair my garage door which wouldn't close all the way. When Michael arrived he gave me a price of $750 and, as I was not there, he said he would mail the invoice. Despite this, I had to call the get the invoice as he didn't mail it. When the invoice finally arrived the price was $1060 and when I called he said that included labor. Then he agreed he owed me about $125 and he would credit my Visa card. The bill came yesterday and the credit was not there. This kind of deceptive pricing and lack of follow through is very disturbing. I will check much more carefully in the future and will not recommend Precision. read more

They are dishonest. My garage door's spring was broken and when I called them, they said they couldn't know the exact cost without taking a look. They said it was about $175 and could be a little more or less depending on the length of the spring. I was fine with "a little more or less than $175". So I had them come to fix. A guy from the company came and after taking a look, he told me that replacing the spring cost $480. Also, the center core and roller need to be replaced. Otherwise, the spring would break again soon. The total cost was $750!!! It didn't sound right comparing what I was told on the phone. The guy told me that I need to pay him $50 for labor if I didn't want him to fix. I didn't trust on him for the job so gave him $50 to have him go. The second day, I had someone came from another company "The door doctor" to fix the door. They charged me $260 for replacing the spring. I asked if the center cord and roller need to be replaced and I was told that my door was still new (my house is 6 years old) and was very light. There was no need to replace at all. read more

Terrible company in Sarasota. Installed an undersized motor for a double garage door. Charged us $600 for a $125 motor. Lasted 2 years. Charged total $1200. A reinstall with a better motor was less than $500. Were suppose to install centure to stop the garage stop garage door these were found on top of the motor. Never installed. I had springs broken in my Garage door. the Technician fixed it. He charged me 175USD/spring (350 total) and 135 USD for bearing. They are going for less than 60 USD total (two springs and bearing).
