This was my first visit to Precision Motors, and I was helped by Hector, the shop's manager. I brought my Honda Civic in for a brake inspection (the odometer reads just over 110,000miles). Hector checked the vehicle right away and walked me through his assessment. He showed me that the brake pads still have plenty of life left, so no replacement was needed. In fact, Hector told me the car is in excellent condition overall. The only issue he found was a leak in the rear shocks, which he recommended replacing. I agreed, and he had the new shocks installed within a couple of hours. The entire experience was fast (in‑and‑out the same day), reasonably priced, and completely honest--Hector clearly explained what truly needed attention and what didn't. With the details I had, I scheduled an appointment for 8 AM Friday: the "check engine" light glowed and a code reader revealed PO455 and PO441 (leak in the EVAP system). The scheduler confirmed everything, so I arrived at 8 AM Friday and confirmed my name and vehicle. "What's wrong with your vehicle?"  "Wait, aren't there notes? I-I just spoke to someone when I made the appointment and provided all the details over the phone."  No notes. I didn't memorize the codes for my check-in, so I panicked. After considerable phone scrolling, I found the codes in my browser history and Googled their meaning. Now, notes. I asked for an estimated wait time. Couldn't tell me until they looked under the hood. Fair.  Resisting the urge to jump to conclusions, I spend the next four hours eating breakfast, washing laundry, and telling myself, "Don't worry, buddy. They haven't forgotten about you." It's noon. "Oh, we're just getting to it now, we'll have an estimated wait time for you soon." Now nervous, I called again at 2 PM and 3 PM. No updates. I tell myself, "It's okay buddy. You've been here before. They're probably fixing the issues right now." It's 4:30 PM and they close at 5 PM. The time to get my car is now. Nothing was fixed, only an assessment, and I'm out $100 (with an apology and discount). Over eight hours. I could have secured another vehicle to run errands had I known I would be waiting over eight hours. You've heard, "Only a fool learns from [their] own mistakes. The wise [person] learns from the mistakes of others." They made me out for a fool; however, here are some tips so you can wisely learn from my experience: 1. When you schedule the appointment, confirm, "Is this the time you'll take my car in, or is this the time my car will be assessed? May I please schedule for when you can look at my car?" 2. When you schedule the appointment, confirm, "Are you taking these notes down for the mechanic so that I don't have to repeat them?" 3. Call them every hour for updates. I hesitated because I had been there before and also because I was nervous about maybe irritating them with the constant calls. They taught me a valuable lesson in consumer self-advocacy and it's only to your benefit to call and make sure they haven't forgotten you. To be clear, the quality of their mechanic service is not in question. It's the uncommunicative and disorganized office staff that has guaranteed I'll never return. May you find a mechanic to meet your car needs. read more

I highly recommend Precision Motors! I called one evening and they were able to get me in the very next morning. Diagnosed the problem and had it repaired the very next day. Had an alignment done with Hector when my car was having issues with Toe. I have an alignment plan with another shop, two or three times they have tried to get the alignment straight and couldn't. Hector's workers took their time to get the alignment corrected and my car is running straight as an arrow. I really appreciate Hector's openness and integrity as a mechanic. First off, let me say that in most cases, I would do the work myself. Unfortunately, I did not have the room or appropriate tools to do the job on my own at my home. I had an engine rebuild done to my project/track car. The actual engine rebuild was supplemented to another business (Jacob's Engine Rebuilding); separate review on that business. Whenever I had a question or concern he (or Jen) would reply to my texts in a timely manner. If I was stopping by at the shop, Hector would always make time for me. The actual jobs done by Hector were engine/transmission removal and installation, fixing external lighting, AC refill, and brake master cylinder replacement. I'm a little critical when it comes to assembly, but all parts were put back in place as they should. Hector even let me do a little bit of the reassembly. For example, I was concerned about following specific instructions for installing ARP flywheel bolts. I was surprised Hector asked if I'd like to put them on myself. Which I gladly did. He provided me gloves, loctite, and a torque wrench, which was cool. The time frame of completing the actual jobs by Precision was pretty fast if you minus the supplement work done by Jacob's Engine Rebuilding. One thing to keep in mind is that prices are not cheap. You have to understand that the cost of labor in general at almost any shop is not cheap for this type of repair. I know because I work in a related field to the auto repair industry. The only reason I went with Precision is based on recommendations from a car forum I frequent. Overall, I'm satisfied with the customer experience since Hector addressed all my concerns, especially on my older vehicle. read more

I have been bringing my 4 different cars to this shop 10+ years and have consistently received great customer service. They rebuilt my BMW engine, service maintenance on my Hondas and Elantra, took care of collision repairs and today replaced my battery on my Prius. I have shopped around and their rates are very reasonable and comparable. Hector, the owner, always take the time to explain what my car needs and patiently answers my questions. They have great follow-up (Andrea, Jenny and Tara) and at times dropped me off at my work while my car was being serviced. They all are so friendly! I only take my cars to Precision, Hector does a good job, tells me what was wrong, and if there is anything I should look for Incase of any other problem. My first car when I was a teenager was super old and had parts that were literally melted, and I didn't get charged an arm and a leg, they were able to find working replacements (they no longer made the model of car so this was pretty hard and did take time), and let me know that there was another part that was melting away, so I was able to get that fixed before something bad actually happened to my car, and it ran for another several years, even though the dealership pretty much told me i was screwed and it was going to cost more to repair it than buy a new car. Prices are fair, and I always get my cars back fast, and don't have to worry about anyone messing up something with my car, or overcharging me for anything. I also REALLY like that it's a small business and everyone is very nice, I'd rather spend my money helping our local economy than some bigger chain, or places with rude staff. read more

I had work done on my 2006 Toyota Prius. It was on the hybrid battery. I drove 110 miles to go to the shop as I live out in the middle of nowhere. This is a family owned business and they did a fantastic job for me. A week later all the lights came on on my dash again and I called precision Automotive back in a panic. Hector was extremely accommodating and said by all means bring the car back. I used my code reader and found out it was something entirely different from the Work precision Automotive did on my car. I did not call them back and tell them this however. And guess what? A few days later they called me! They followed up to make sure that all was OK with my Car and me. Thanks Hector and Sergio! After getting screwed by a hit-and-run driver I checked out numerous places and ended up here because he seemed to give me a proper diagnosis of where and how messed up my car was. He (I think the owner) physically walked me thorough what was up. Which was cool. The cost to fix was a little more than I was willing to pay but every other place just told me what I needed. We have been very pleased with Precision Motors for all three of our vehicles. We have used them for the past four years for many different services. Although the prices are not always what we can afford, whenever there is a coupon we jump on that and feel better. Both owners are polite and take a personal interest in my family, which also eases the whole "I am going to get screwed by these guys" attitude which I have read previously. Maybe that is what happens with garages, but one can hope that with good service and faith, all will work out and the cars will be safely running. So far so good for us! This review breaks my heart just a bit. To start, before the end of 2015 I was a loyal customer for roughly 4 years.. I put my faith in the owners who, over the years, my husband and I grew to trust over any mechanic in the city. Many times we've taken our cars in and with a great attitude, they always helped us out. I've given many referrals and said MY mechanic will help you out. Well, this is no longer the case after November of last year. We originally took in my husband's car because after HIS poor maintenance, we heard loud noises from the engine. We were told we basically killed the engine. So we took note and decided to save and hopefully replace the engine. We had help from my mother-in-law and she allowed us to borrow her car. When driving her car, I came to a stop and the car stalled and sputtered all the way home. Of course, we waited till Monday morning to take it to our mechanic. They had the car all day and when we checked the status, we were told that the coils in the engine needed to be replaced. He said he would try to replace the one for the cylinder that misfired and see if that would help but if not, he would need to replace the ALL of them.. I knew how much this would cost because the previous year, MY car had the same issue and I spent close to $2000 in repairs. So I asked for him to replace the 1 coil to see if that would fix it. Total cost was around $470 bucks. Next day, it was sputtering again and I didn't trust it to go to work. With all of the cost adding up with my husband's car and my mother-in-law's car and Christmas approaching, it's safe to say we were stressing out! My mom had a gut feeling we needed to check into this and see what we can do before we take it back to my mechanic. She asked that I go get the coils from Autozone so her and her friend can see if they can do the work themselves and see if it would save us on cost. They also went and got a set of spark plugs for $38 dollars. When they went to take out the spark plugs, they can see one was clearly cracked. It pretty much fell apart as they took it out. They replaced all of the spark plugs and it was FIXED!!! The car was completely back to normal!! I couldn't believe it.. My $2000 dollar issue was fixed with a $38.00 box of spark plugs! MY mom is 59 years old and is not a mechanic BTW. I can safely say this was either a case of laziness, incompetency or (I hate to say it) dishonestly.. Whichever it may be, I will never go back.. We were put under so much stress for nothing and was out $470 dollars for Christmas for our kids. Sad to say but they are no longer MY mechanic. Now to find a new mechanic for our broken down car. this business likes to screw you. a simple smog check took half a day! i brought in my car at 8:30a, but the manager told the mechanics to work on other cars that came after me. on top of the long wait, my car didn't pass smog so i had to come back the next day. the manager also didn't honor his own coupon for a brake inspection. read more

i had a water leak and found that the thermostat housing was defective. i took the car in on 12/16/11 and did not get it corrected until 4/12. i had to take the care in 4 times to get it repaired correctly. then the owner wanted to charge me over a hundred dollars for the part when it was misdiagnosed and under warranty. i will never recommend or spend another penny at this location. read more

2 + yrs. ago i spent $1800.00$ & 3 mos. of trial and error here 2 qualify my '93 dodge truck & pass smog. i trusted Mr. Sanchez who is pleasant & like-able. Ultimately we believed the CARB approved after market catalytic converters were simply deficient solo as 2 made my truck finally pass the "NOX" standard. Fast fwd to May-2015 and a different shop had 2 remove the illegal 2nd cat-converter & confidently tested & passed my truck on the 2nd test by simply welding closed air leaks in the exhaust pipe before the O-2 sensor. I've been living out of the country for 3 years (Italy), and was SO GLAD to see that Precision Motors was still there and STILL DOING GREAT WORK! I have a 2007 BMW 550i that is in GREAT cosmetic condition - but she's showing her age and needs lots of work beneath the hood. I took her in to get brakes front brakes and an oil change - but was shocked to find out that she had SO MUCH MORE wrong. Long story short, Hector and the gang did a THOROUGH bumper to bumper inspection and found several things that were in DESPERATE need of immediate repair. Despite the increased work needed, the price was MORE THAN FAIR. I would be selling a kidney and a huge chunk of my liver in order to pay for that same work at BMW of San Diego! LOL They've been my mechanic for about 3 years prior to my tour in Italy, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. I brought my BMW 535I for repair in "PRECISION AUTO IN CHULA VISTA corner K street and Broadway. My car was shaking during start up and when in idle. Hector conducted the diagnosis and found out that I had a lot of carbon build up in the intake. He charge me $2200 for manually removing the carbon build up. He then changed the oil and added an additive to flush the remaining carbon residue. He recommended for my car to be flush 3 times. He also found an oil leak in my oil filter housing. I authorized the repair and he charge me $1980 for that. On my way home, I stop for gas and I noticed that i was leaking coolant. I called Hector and head back to their shop. He found out that i had 3 pinholes in my reservoir. I had to leave my car overnight and had to pay extra $270 to get my reservoir replaced. When I pick up my car the following day, I discovered that i had an oil leak this time and the cause of the leak is a ruptured hose. I brought back the car that day and he has to charge me $570 to replace the hose and change the oil. I complained about the sudden leaks that came out of nowhere but Hector claimed that they don't have anything to do with it. After a month I came back for the oil flush that he recommended, which cost me $182, but on my way home just 2 blocks out from their shop I had a check engine again. The problem this time is the alternator. He told me that oil was sputtering in the alternator when I had an oil leak by the oil filter housing which caused the alternator to overcharge. I had to pay $970 for the alternator replacement. Yesterday, I had to go back for the 3rd oil flushed which cost me another $182. but on my way home I noticed that the steering was hard to steer. I called Hector and went back to their shop. When he opened the hood we found out that the serpentine belt was misaligned out from the pulleys. He charge me $270 again. I complained that every time that I bring back my car for the oil flush, their is always something else that they have to replace. I gave them benefit of the doubt when i had an oil leak but it seems to me that it's not a coincidence anymore that some other parts that are not related for oil flush keeps breaking whenever i bring my car back. OH and my car is still sputtering a little bit on idle. I agree wit RANDY R. that this place will find way to over charge you. If you own BMW and you will bring your car for major repair oaths shop, you better think twice, DON'T BE SURPRISE FOR EXTRA REPAIRS THAT WILL OCCUR !!! You better have extra money for the "surprise extra repairs that they will find or recommend". But then again, this shop got some good reviews from customer that bring their car for basic maintenance and smog check. Take your OWN RISK, because these mechanics will have a lot of surprises that a customer does not really like. The reason why I stayed with this shop because I took the recommendation of a trusted person who thinks that my previous mechanic is not honest when in fact bringing my car to this shop gave me the worst nightmare I ever had. read more
