We've lived just a few minutes from Precision Tune Auto Care in Apple Valley for 27 years, so we've seen this shop through a lot of changes. We loved Matt, the original owner, and after he left, we watched it go through several personnel changes. To be honest, it wasn't always the same experience. This ownership team genuinely feels different. Mark and Joe have earned our trust, and I'd encourage anyone reading older reviews to focus on the ones from 2026 forward because this is simply not the same shop. They've worked on all three of our vehicles, handling everything from routine maintenance to major repairs, and they've helped us keep our high-mileage vehicles running. What I appreciate most is their honesty. They explain what actually needs to be fixed, never try to upsell, and always treat us with professionalism and respect. I've gotten quotes from other repair shops in the area, and Precision Tune has consistently come in lower. The customer service is exceptional. Mark and Joe are friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely respectful. I also appreciate that the front office is often dressed in a suit. It may seem like a small thing, but it reflects the pride they take in their business. Even the TV is playing uplifting, family-friendly programming. It's a refreshing change, and honestly, more businesses could take a page from their book. If you're trying to get the most life and value out of your vehicle, this is the place to go. 2/2/2024 (date of service 01/29/2024): We've learned that the Galaxy Auto Spa is part of Precision Tune. We've also learned that they have absolutely no concern about the false advertising for the Touch Free wash! Once you pull in that bay and realize that there are brushes, you are at the mercy of the damage that they can, and likely will do! Details regarding how well they honor their obligation to properly remedy the situation. ... Let's start with the plastic trim around the front wheel well being pulled off; that was noticed right away. When my daughter went over to Precision Tune to address it, the manager stated, "Oh no, what did it do now?". He assured her that it would be taken care of. She had to get to work so this conversation ended well up to that point. When she got to work, she had enough time to take a closer look at her truck; paint was chipped all over! The hood, the roof, the sides, the back; everywhere! She went there the next day and told them that she found some more damage to address. They said that they did too: They handed her a mud flap from her truck. When she pointed out the chips in the paint, they told her that she was going to get a paint job. Great news, right?! Wrong! From that point on their communication all but dried up! After a couple of days (2/5), I stopped by to follow up on their commitment to take care of her. They changed their minds: They claimed that their sign stating "at driver's risk" absolved them of any responsibility to repair the damage. I confirmed that their sign on the bay door indicates that the wash is touch free; they concurred. Then I confirmed that once a vehicle is in the bay, and the driver realizes that there are brushes, there is no way out and the driver's vehicle is at the mercy of the washing machine; again, they concurred. They told me to call the corporate office. I called and left a message for their customer service department: They returned my call within the hour. The gentleman was polite and understood where we were coming from. He was going to contact the district manager and have them contact me; this was three days ago. Looks like a follow up call is due tomorrow (2/9). More to come ... (2/20/2024) "tomorrow" did not happen. I just spoke with a manager named Jacob; polite discussion. He reviewed an e-mail discussion with another manger named Alan and told me that they are not going to take care of the damage to my daughter's truck. They are deferring to sign on the bay door indicating that usage of the wash is at the driver's risk. Well? Not when that same bay door has a much larger sign that states that it is "Touchless", and (as previously stated) once you're in the bay and realized that it isn't there is no way to stop it or pull out with the exit door being closed! (3/13/2024 13:30) Today I saw that a reply to this review was posted on 3/10/2024. I called, as instructed, to continue this conversation. I spoke with Alan to find out who posted the message so that I could speak with them. He said that it was likely an area manager; perhaps Daryl. He then proceeded to reiterate their "at driver's risk" statement. I politely reminded him of the sign on the door about it being "Touchless", and how once you're in that bay (with both doors shut), you're at the mercy of the wash. I asked that whomever left that reply to this review to have them call me. He told me that he will let them know that they can call me: The phone number was confirmed. We shall see. (3/13/2024 20:30 2 new photos) Via the BBB they sent a photo of their "at risk" sign. Out of curiosity, I went there to see it. To my surprise, the bay door had duct tape over everywhere that stated "free"! Well?! Which sign do they stand by?! (3/14/2034) Message via BBB: "From the Business on Thursday, March 14, 2024 We are doing nothing. Thanks Doug" So Doug and his company don't stand by their word! Thanks for the warning! ... We had spoken with the MN Attorney General's office about this two weeks ago (2/8/2024) and have been following their suggestions to remedy this situation. Now we follow their next suggestion which to fill out their form with all of these details (including estimates of the damage) and let them take care of this for us. The form is filled out and ready to submit. One other approach was recommended. Even though this Precision Tune is not an accredited member of the Better Business Bureau (BBB), they do keep track of complaints and offer some issue-resolution services. The form was submitted and accepted by them on 2/29/2024; they have 20 days to reply to the multiple attempts by the BBB. ** NOTE to anyone else who has had this happen to them at this wash, work with the Attorney General's office to get the matter taken care of if you have anything happen to your vehicle and they are not properly responding to your situation. I would not recommend anybody to go to precision tune, auto care. I took my truck in to get my heater fixed didn't get it fixed. They took three weeks trying to fix it. They misdiagnosed it and they messed up my air conditioning and refused to fix it the whole time they were just pulling my leg about how they got it fixed that it's almost ready, but it was just a bunch of BS, do not go to this place read more

My car lost all electrical power. Had it towed to Tires Plus. They said they couldn't diagnose the problem. Recommended I take it to a dealer. Never heard of a major service shop that just gives up and says tow it somewhere else. Towed it to Precision Auto. Diagnosed major problems, unfortunately for me. Told me one of the computer parts required was on a national backorder and could take up to 3 months to get in. I was resigned to wait since I had no options. Allan, the service person who was assisting me, called me 2 days later and said he had tracked down my part somewhere in Texas and he would ship it here next day. One day later the job was done and I was back on the road. Allan went above and beyond to solve a serious problem and I couldn't be more satisfied with the service! read more

I came here for my wheel alignment and made an appointment prior to coming in. There's usually no one at the desk, but you have to stand and wait so they see you through the camera and come out. I really loved the service here, they were efficient and Julian-the manager? Was extremely helpful and friendly. But if you have a groupon make sure you bring in the actual app and not print it out. They have a tv and some coffee while you wait. This is a place that you can trust. read more

This Precision Tune will never get my business again. Went in for an oil change for my 2018 Honda Accord last December. The Honda was on It's third oil change, first two done at the Honda dealership. I was under the hood once to see what it looked like. So only three times someone was under the hood till Precision Tunes oil change. Car is not driven but 6 months of the year and garaged when not in use. After the oil change I drove it home and two days later decided to look under the hood. No engine cover was discovered. So I called Precision Tune to ask if they had it. The manager was rude but said he'd check. Came back on the phone and said they didn't have it. Very huffy! I know they are the only ones that could of taken it. Some one needed a Honda engine cover. So I bought a off brand one for $80. Not please with this company at all. So beware! read more

Update: Took same vehicle to another service garage. The 'extra' undisclosed work of replacing the intake manifold gasket was done so poorly that it is causing the oxygen sensors to not work correctly. Having it done by a reputable shop. STAY AWAY from Precision Tune. read more

Sorry to report that Mike and Matt no longer operate this business. As of about Nov. 1, 2017, this Precision Tune Location is now a company owned and operated store. Mike and Matt had always been honest with me and I value their opinions, recommendations and work they do on my car. I had several repairs done at this location and I they were ok. The repairs were done and seem to be done well, but the manager told me once that all of my rotors needed replaced, despite the fronts being just a few months old. When I told him that, he said oh, I meant your rear brakes. The second visit, I took it in for brake noise, he said I needed 4 new tires, I said I had just had the front ones warrantied out because of a nail in the side and again, he says, well I meant your rears. I lost all confidence in the shop after that. Honesty and knowledge are the two most important factors in choosing a car repair shop to me, and they lost both with really high quotes on things I didn't need. I think they really could do a good job, they just muddied it with terrible price quotes and trying to sell me repairs I didn't need. read more

I have never had anything but excellent service here. Been going there for years. Matt and Mike are the only honest mechanics I've ever met. Just today I brought in my car because one of my headlights is out, they told me I didn't need an appointment to take care of it while I waited. I get there they see me right away and discover my light is not burned out there's a loose wire they fix the wiring in within 10 minutes I'm gone no charge. Maybe it helps that I'm a regular, but I've always had really courteous really helpful service from these guys. read more

I took my car here almost exactly a year ago and had work done. The car was a 2008 and was only worth $3,000.00 +/- at the time. The repairs were fairly extensive and I wanted to make sure that I wasn't wasting my time. I was advised that all else was solid on the car and that a complete look was done. This is all aside from the fact that they plugged a tire at a time when they didn't do tire repair and I had to buy a new tire as a result. They blamed it on an enmployee that was no longer there. The old owner had offered to be accountible for that, but I'm guessing there is no record of that either. The car broke down again less than 6 months later and had to have another $800.00 in repairs and again this december for another $1000.00. In addition the shop dropped a jack on my car and ruined the front right fender (which they replaced at no cost). Of course I was upset about this, but when talking to the new Owner (Allen or Russ) he said as nicely as he could that it was not his problem. He said nobody in the place remembers my car, but he lied as I just had a 2017 Challenger in the same shop for an oil change on 12/08/2017 and one of the service men talked directly to me about it, with the specific comment of "Oh, I remember that". He also said he looked me up and there was no record of service. I was upset as there is little that can be more frustrating than placing blame elsewhere. In the end he called me out as directing my anger at him in spite of the fact that everything I mentioned was with the last owner. The new owner had no accountability and rather than take the opportunity to assure me he was nothing like the old owner, he chose to deny, point fingers, call out my dissatisffaction as if an ownership change absolves a business (it does not) and finally was content with what felt like the equivalent to "go pound sand". I would avoid this shop at all costs as the owner seems more interested in the pride of not being wrong than taking the time to help a customer. In addition I have now brand new tires, brakes, shocks, struts, lower control arm, and soon to be muffler among other things. The engine runs great. He advised me that I should just get rid of the car without knowing anything of it, because as he claimed he couldn't find it in the system. read more

It was a Friday afternoon and my wife's car (04 Taurus) overheated and spilled coolant all over when she parked. I had taken my vehicle to this shop before since it was close to where I live. They said they could fit it in on Saturday. We brought it in and they called and said that it was a clamp at the bottom of the water pump. $53. My wife picked it up and took our 1 yr old and was going to visit family in WI. The car overheated and did the same thing in Woodbury 30 minutes away. My wife called the shop and they said not to worry they would have it towed back to the shop. She asked how much the tow would be and they said they would take care of it. I got a call that the car was done on the next Wednesday. I stopped on my way home to pay for it. They had to clean out some debris and change the thermostat. $323. I got home and to my surprise there was a $100 tow charge on the bill! I have AAA coverage that's why my wife asked how much the tow would cost us! When I called they said it wasn't their fault since we hadn't specified the problem, so we had to pay for it. I'm not a mechanic if i knew the problem I would've fixed it myself! Low and behold the very next day it does the exact same thing! She calls them again because at this point we just want them to fix what they have screwed up and overcharged us for. My wife talked to a mechanic friend of her's and he said it could be the radiator cap. She brought it in to Precision tune and they put a $10 radiator cap on and it has worked perfect. $375 dollars later they "graciously" said they would cover the price of the radiator cap. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. They are unprofessional and don't care about repeat customers. Cars are expensive enough to maintain but then to have someone take you for as much as they can is just wrong. read more

My car quit working, I called Precision Tune Auto Care in Apple Valley. They recommended a tow company I should use and have it towed to the repair shop. It was the best service I have ever had. They called and let me know all the issues and had my car back within 2 days. I had a big job which took a lot of time to fix, but they were very efficient. On 8/23/18, Precision Tune Auto Care replaced the engine in my car and I was issued a one year warranty. The mechanic told me to stop by if I had any issues. I brought my vehicle to Precision Tune Auto Care in Apple Valley on 9/27/2018. I explained to staff that they recently replaced the engine in my vehicle and that I was issued a one year warranty. I did not have a copy of the warranty and the staff person was unable to find it in the computer system. My "check engine" light had come on. The staff person stated they would take a look at it and give me a call. A mechanic called later to report the issue was the oxygen sensors and not the engine. They included a quote to replace the oxygen sensors, but I decided not to have the work done. I went to pick up my vehicle and they insisted I pay a diagnostic fee. I explained I had never agreed to that. I would not have left my car there if I thought I was going to be charged. When it was clear that staff was not going to listen to me, I paid the 112.65 in order to get my vehicle. read more

I've been taking cars here for oil changes and minor repairs for about five years. Earlier this year, we brought our new-to-us SUV in for it's first oil change in our care. While waiting, I heard the new manager talking to a customer explaining that one of their mechanics and damaged part of their car when they were in last, but that mechanic had since been let go. About a month after my oil change, my car started leaking oil fast. I added oil and brought it in and they looked at it right away. After 20-30 minutes, this same manager brought me back into his office and told me that the mechanic that did the last oil change had been unable to get the oil filter off and had damaged it. He left an old, damaged oil filter on, and this had been the cause of the leak. He then said that this mechanic had been let go already - just as I'd heard him say a month before. They cleaned it up, did a new oil change, and didn't charge me for it. I credit them for taking responsibility and not lying. They certainly could have. I would have liked more than an oil change for free since, really, I already paid for it. But what concerns me most is the claim that they'd already let this rogue mechanic go. Either this is their pat claim when they make a mistake, or they're doing a poor job hiring and training their mechanics. Cars cost too much to gamble with. I'll be sticking with my main mechanic over at Murgic's in Rosemount. read more
