This review is simply in reference to the Emissions Testing/Emissions Diagnostic at Precision Auto Tune. I cannot speak to any other services. I wanted to just write for folks have a game plan if they fail an emissions test here. I had a less than pleasant experience after failing emissions and receiving the information code for what area would need to be addressed to fix, which was related to my car's idle and speed sensor. This shop offers an "Emissions Diagnostic" for $150 plus shop fees/tax, totaling around $170. I did agree to this service and paid as I agreed to, but was disappointed to discover that this is really in addition to any work that needs to be done to fix the problem, and is mainly just to cover the State of Washington minimum to apply for an emissions waiver, and simply get a sign off that it has been checked. I got a call that a $230-240 repair for the idle/speed sensor needed to be made, but in addition to this "Emissions Diagnostic." I was surprised and told that the $150 is for the mechanic to 'further diagnose' the emissions fail code that the car puts out. I asked how this "further diagnosis" is different than a free "check engine" diagnosis, the original code that the car gives when it fails, and/or when I use the code reader for free at the auto parts store to tell me what's wrong. They said its both the same and a bit different as it take more reading to evaluate, apparently $150 worth, which conveniently is also the state minimum. I would have happily paid the $230-240 to actually get the problem fixed and then pass emissions, however what I received was a 'further diagnosis,' and a signature that said the state minimum had been met. So, now I can apply for the waiver, but the problem is actually not solved. I was really disappointed that I had to actually purchase a diagnosis and then have the work addressed. I can understand that this type service exists to simply meet a state minimum, and such approved auto shops have a right to offer it. I believe most good mechanics though will diagnose an issue for free and then tell you what needs to be fixed, not this type of runaround further diagnosis then to offer the repairs on top of that. My husband took our 2015 SUV in for a standard oil change. After a we brought it home, we noticed the vehicle dripping oil. We took it back in to Precision Tune Auto. When they tried to remove the oil cap, it took two people and two separate tools because it was so overtightened, which damaged the cap, and was causing oil to drip out. All they did was replace the oil filter and clean the leaking oil off the engine. We took it home and the oil started leaking again. This time when my husband took it back to them for inspection, the assistant manager said that he saw them over tighten the oil cap and damage the seal, so it now leaks oil. The manager JR said it was a cheap car with cheap parts and the most he could do was a discount on a new oil cap and service. When my husband told him he needed to fix the damage to the vehicle that they caused, JR told him never mind, he will charge us the entire parts and service fee. When I called to speak with the manager, he was rude/disrespectful and uncooperative. His answer to making his companies wrong doing to a customer was, "See you in small claims court," and hung up the phone. I know a lot of people in the area that service their vehicles here and I will definitely tell them my experience and that customer service is not guaranteed, especially since this is an independent franchise so there is no accountability to take care of the customer. read more

I have been having issues with my vehicle. I was a little distraught about my situation. This shop was a nice place to go to get all my service done. They diagnosed my vehicle and walked me through all the steps to get my car back in order. The communication was fantastic and pleasant. This is my auto shop for life and I will recommend it to everyone I know. read more

Years ago this auto shop helped me so when my check engine light came on my family van as a mom of 4 I panicked and decided to give them a call. I was provided realistic pricing and expectations in the diagnostic and repair process. I not only was educated about the issue with my vehicle, but was also step by step talked through what they planned to do to save me money by taking the correct steps to diagnose rather than jumping to a big repair that I initially thought I needed from my own investigation. I was pleased to discover the end cost was much less than I had anticipated just merely going off a diagnostic reader that a friend had. It really paid off to let the experts handle diagnosing my vehicle. They also offered and provided a rental van for $20 a day so that I wasn't stranded with my kids. The work was even completed on half the time I was quoted! I can not say enough nice things about the mechanics, the receptionist, and the management of this shop. I am so impressed with the service I received in January for my emissions problem with my car. They went above and beyond to successfully negotiate with the parts manufacturer to cover a previously installed part which failed just a few short months after the warranty expired. They even covered the labor to fix the problem, which was clearly a defect in the part. This kind of integrity is hard to find! And to top it off, they provided me with a loaner vehicle while I waited (at no charge). They had no idea what a blessing this was for me and my family, since I just lost my job two weeks ago. These folks are the best!!! Very professional service and fair prices. My wife's Mercury Mountaineer was having driveline issues that have eluded two previous competing shops.( The other shops were reputable, but this issue was like a ghost problem that no one could put their finger on). Well, after some research at Precision's Gig Harbor shop, their master technician, Roger discovered the PRECISE cause of our elusive issue without changing expensive parts. Disappointed. I went there for a window off the track and my check engine light was on. First it cost me 150 bucks for them to run a "diagnostic" to figure out the check engine code. Then it cost me almost a hundred dollars for them to "assess" the window (not fix). The diagnostic revealed a fault in the oil control valve, over a hundred to replace. Then I had to change the oil, so tag on another 70 some bucks. I decided to bite the bullet and get it fixed since the remote start won't work when the check engine light is on (and since they charged me so much for the diagnostic). I drop off my car at 9 am and they said it would be ready around 12 pm, I had to call them around 2 pm to see what was going on. They said they can't find the retainers to the window and it's going to cost me more to replace the part for labor and for pick up! (they don't have the part there). Frustrated with how much I've already paid, I decided to say screw it (the window stays up anyways). They say ok, we will put it back together and you can pick it up in 45 minutes. I go to pick it up, pay the people and leave. I get half way home and the check engine light comes back on! I call them and they say bring it back in. I rush to get there before they close, they check it and go figure it's the same code! Problem not solved. The mechanic goes on to tell me they need further "diagnostics" that will cost me 97 to 150 more bucks! So essentially I just paid 475 dollars for them to tell me my window isn't connected to the motor (which I knew), an oil change and a cheap oil control valve. I feel like I've been robbed and my car still isn't fixed! read more

They don't honor their coupons or have a reason why that coupon doesn't pertain to your vehicle. They always recommend extra costs or repairs. Don't waste your time. Go to an ethical place. read more

Horrible service... save yourself an extra bill don't come here. After my car was towed the day after they tinkered with it for an emissions test ...my dealer said this place didn't put a cap to a coil back on the car which made it un drivable.. it's all in writing ...we will be taking legal action if money is not returned. They put us in a very dangerous situation while driving home only able to do 15mph up a huge hill .. read more

Be careful about asking questions, too many questions and they become very unprofessional and borderline hostile. I would recommend always asking about their guarantee policy because they tend to want to sell you something that may not work and still charge you when it doesn't. I went in for my emissions test at Precision. Two days prior I took my Suburban to another place where I bought tires to look at a squeak in my back tire and brakes. They could not figure out the squeak and were to email be a brake quote and I never heard back from them. When I drove up to Precision, Jr. The owner, met me and went over the emissions test and immediately heard the squeak, and told me it was more than likely my u joints. I brought it back in and it was that. He actually took the time to show me the parts removed and what there function was and why it was a detrimental. They were rusted and worn out. It was not if, it was when, the bottom of my car fell out. Plus my brakes were at 15%. So I replaced those. The thing that I really appreciated was that there are two other sounds that happen. And these were sounds I have had a while and no one could figure them out. But Jr knew immediately. BUT he told me they were not detrimental and I had time. He told me what to look for and listen and when I saw those things happen, then I could look at fixing them. Every thing was low pressure and not a hard sell. More of an education so I could make decisions on what would help the car continue to go. I am grateful he knew the part that was a safety concern because as mentioned elsewhere could not figure it out. And we were close to a detrimental issue. Safety you can tell is at the top of his mind. The office staff was wonderful as well. Called me throughout to give me updates. I like that it had the feel of an independent owner who wants to give you a fair and honest business. And he fact that the owner is there and present makes all the difference. read more

Customer beware!!! I do not appreciate they way in which this company conducts business. When I called them I asked for a quote for an oil and filter change and gave them very specific details about my car such as year, make, model, etc. I wanted to be sure they had the oil filter in stock and to book an appointment. They were elusive on the phone and would not quote any prices. They said, "just bring it in, we do not take appointments". When I arrived I again asked for a quote and it practically took an act of congress to get it. Finally the manager came out and quoted $148, considerably more than the car dealer!!! At that point I told them that and left without service. Although I cannot speak to their quality of service, this lack of transparency is deceptive, dishonest and reflective of the ownership. Got a great second opinion on the condition of my breaks which included them taking me out into the shop, showing and explaining so I knew they were being honest. DO NOT USE THIS STORE! Our recent interaction with the owner of this facility is one of the worst I have experienced from any automotive service establishment. My wife took our 2013 Ford F-150 truck in for a routine oil change. We were charged an additional fee remove a cover over the oil pan. The cover was not reinstalled properly and came off the next time we drove the truck and was ruined. My wife returned to the store to inform them of the problem. The owner agreed to repair the truck. We were told that it would take two weeks to get the part in and it was being ordered on E-bay, however the part could have been obtained at a local dealer within a day. My wife questioned why we needed to wait two weeks to get the car repaired and the owner said that it was cheaper for him to get the part on Ebay and we were being unreasonable for asking for it to be repaired at the earliest opportunity. He called my wife rude and unreasonable, at which point she left. I stopped by on my way home from work and asked the owner the same question? He called me unreasonable, that I needed to work with HIM on this and that our concern that his shop damaged our car was not his problem. He was going to fix our car, but on his timeline. He used profanity with me, told me that if I continued to ask for an earlier repair date that he would cancel the order. I asked him not to use profanity with me and telling me I was full of "S**T". I said I would not be returning and he would lose my business he said he did not want my business, he was fed up with my "S**T" and that he was canceling the order fix my car. I run a business with 350 employees that produces complex equipment. If I treated my customers this way, I would no longer be in business. I will not recommend Precision Tune to anyone, and I am appalled that he would treat my wife and I in such a disrespectful, dismissive and profane manner. read more

FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE: Three shots at looking at and diagnosing simple broken air conditioning, charged up the wazoo for all of this and it broke the day I drove it to California through 108 degrees. Called and was told that I was told before that "they don't guarantee their work". I am sure that is probably in some fine print somewhere, but if you don't guarantee your work, then why are you running a car repair business? FRIENDLY AND CHEERFUL does NOT equal competent. They are smiley and friendly and incompetent. Spend six bucks, cross the bridge or go north to any nice American mechanic. Just because this place is close, is no excuse to use them. READ THE OTHER REVIEWS and educated yourselves. read more

Everyone at Precision Tune is very nice. They are so helpful and honest. I would not take my vehicles anywhere else to get work done. Being in the military, I am often away from home and it is imperative that my wife's vehicle is reliable and also has an excellent place to take it for repairs. PRECISION TUNE in Gig Harbor is that place! Haven't gone to their University Place location, but from what I've heard, the experience is the same. I went in for and oil change and they split a little hose and didn't tell me. I started my car after paying and heard a hissing noise. I went back into the office and told them I now had a leak and they were going to fix it for extra. But it was not like that when I came in I said. They did not have the part and would have to call around to get one. I said I would wait and wanted them to fix it since they broke it. I spent most of my day there when it was supposed to be a simple oil change. I will not make the mistake of going there again. read more

Do not go here! Shady shady! My husband needed an emissions test and went here out of convenience. He has never failed emissions and was shocked when they said he failed. He told the lady to try again because it had to be wrong, but she refused and said he could buy a $100 waiver so he could get his tabs. He said that he wanted to go somewhere else and try emissions again because be said something seemed fishy. He went to fife the next day and passed emissions with flying colors. He went back in to precision tune and asked for his money back which they of course denied. Never going back and hope others don't fall for this $100 dollar scam. I had a emergency car repair where one of the bearings came apart associated with my serpentine belt and caused a belt roller to fail. Of course there went my power steering, battery charging, and water pump to circulate the water to cool my engine. It was a friday afternoon, a hour before Precision Tune was to close. Luckily I knew they were there and pulled off the freeway right up to the shop. The owner looked at things, figured out what had happened and said he would have it fixed. I was out of the shop less than a hour later and my pocketbook still intact. They took super care of me and at a very resonable price. This could have turned ugly but instead turned into just a bump in the road and I was back on my way. I totally trust these people with my car and do not have any problem recommending them to anyone. I've been to this location several times, and had very positive experiences! the mechanics were so helpful and answered all my questions. Azeeze (the owner) is the most honest and friendliest automotive business owner I've ever met! And The two ladies at the counter are also friendly and knowledgeable. I wish I could give them a 5 star review, unfortunately, the old woman in the office has made it so I will probably not ever return. She was rude, plain and simple. She was talking down to the girl working at the counter, yelling at the mechanics (yes we can hear you in the waiting lobby). She even was disrespectful to me when I asked her simple questions about recommendations on my car. Hopefully if I do come back, she won't be there! Due to her I will not recommend this location to my friends or family anymore. read more

Had to get my mom's headlight replaced - which has been done by other shops numerous times for around 20 bucks and only took around 15 minutes - they charged her 90 bucks and made us wait 45 minutes just so they could hit us with more labor fees. A complete sham. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! They installed windshield wipers and one failed in a few months. The wire came through the blade and scratched my windshield bad enough that you can see exactly where the wiper swishes across the windshield. They would not get it taken out of my windshield. They tried buffing it, but it did not work, surprise...of course it did not work. My care needs to be taken to a glass place. They would not stand behind it! They are really nice but obviously of you don't spend a lot of money they do not stand behind the parts! I will NEVER go here again! read more

I visited them about a vehicle that had a sloppy idle. They immediately diagnosed a distributor cap failure and I authorized the repair. After the fix, I started the vehicle and the problem was exactly as it was before. I was told my ride was a "heap" by the owner and shown the door. I paid my bill, unhappily, and took the vehicle to another repair shop. The second shop laughed at the original diagnoses and the Precision Tune owner/operator...they'd seen plenty of cars that had been wrongly diagnosed and "repaired" by this shop. They fixed the vehicle and it's running great. I went back to PT concerning the failed diagnoses and the bill and ended up in a heated dialog with the owner and his wife. Bottom line, the owner is a nice guy and plays well with the naive locals, but if you want your car repaired properly, avoid these people like the plague. This is a franchise operation. You need zero knowledge of auto repair to buy a franchise and go into business. Use them for an oil change...nothing more! read more
