The bossam was incredibly aromatic and came with a massive portion of fresh kimchi that was cut tableside, making for a fun dining experience. Together, it was more than enough to satisfy two hungry diners. The banchan selection was equally impressive and paired beautifully with the meal. The restaurant itself is cozy, clean, and welcoming, while the service felt warm, genuine, and comforting, almost like dining in someone's home. My only suggestion would be to offer a more fermented kimchi option as a side dish. All of the kimchi we tried was very fresh, and I personally would have loved a tangier, more developed flavor. Overall, this is an easy 10 out of 10. I would absolutely recommend it and will definitely be back.

Unfortunately, I didn't love the texture of fish roe (kind of reminded me of the texture of cooked chicken lungs). By the end of the stew, I thought it was too salty, so I didn't end up finishing it. At its peak, it was the best- comfort Korean food during late nights/ early mornings, but at some point they fell off. Hard. The last time I dined here was ten years ago and that experience was so bad, I stopped coming (speaking solely to food. I never expect stellar service at homey Korean spots). And with the addition of Yi's Traditional Noodle, my family never bothered to try Gom again. Someone ordered for my family via Uber Eats: seollongtang, Galbitang, yukgaejang, o Sam bokkeum (pork belly and squid stir fry). All good!! It came with 4 servings of rice, 3 sides of kimchi, and salt/ green onions for seollongtang. Galbitang had generous amount of beef. The broth was flavorful, and had long- simmered richness. It leaves your lips lacquered with beef oil. *I later looked at the menu online and they advertise it as wang Galbitang- wang meaning king or huge. Expect a decent portion. For $21.99 I thought it was reasonable. Hankki (down the street) also offers Galbitang but for $18 their amount of beef is a little disappointing. Yukgaejang (spicy shredded beef stew) is a little oilier than I like but it was also flavorful and full of beef. Seollongtang- I didn't try it but my persnickety seol long tang snob dad said it was good. This dish is what Korean people used to flock here for and also what led to their downfall for not preparing it correctly or having repeat bad experiences. I guess they're making a comeback because my dad loved the beef and rich bone broth. Osam bokkeum- also a little oilier than I like but still good. Flavorful. Pork and squid were tender. You can adjust the spice level on this. The only complaint we had was the kimchi was a little too sour/ fermented. Honestly kimchi has to be delicious at seollongtang places. Still really good overall. I took a peak at their menu and it does seem to have some revamping going on. Their newest addition- variations of steamed meat- jokbal (pig feet), bossam (pork), sooyuk (beef), etc. +pyunbaek namoo jjim. It's meat prepared by steaming it in pyunbaek (hinoki cypress) wood. Apparently it's really aromatic and has added health benefits. I'm curious about how this compares to their old bossam. Service used to be hit or miss. Homey Korean spots aren't usually known for service. You're kinda on your own. If the food is good enough people will come back (hot take for some). Yi's is still my preferred place for seollongtang, but I'd gladly come back to Gom, esp for galbitang. Gom Tang, welcome back. Centreville is happy to have you again!!

As a regular, here are a few tips: the $10 lunch menu is dine-in only--you can't order it to-go, and takeout has to be at dinner pricing (a bit unfortunate). Also, except for the seolleongtang, most dishes are pre-cooked and reheated, so I recommend asking them to make it piping hot; otherwise, some parts might still be a bit cold. Lunch is served from 11:30 AM to 3 PM, but it's not available on holidays--also a bit of a downside. On the plus side, the servers are always very kind, and sometimes during lunch they serve an extra side dish in addition to kimchi. The stir-fried fish cake (odeng bokkeum) is especially delicious. Overall, still a solid spot I keep coming back to.

The large gopchang is well seasoned, a little crispier when you dine in but nothing an airfryer can't fix. The kimchi jiggae is slept on- super good and loaded with pork belly!! The fried rice is also a must get, loaded with meat and seasoned well. We also tried their new chicken gizzards and mala intestine recently and they were both really good. Service is always friendly dine in or takeout- they package everything really well. The restaurant is one of the few that opens late, so expect it to be busy after midnight!
