I happened to be eating at my favorite restaurant on May 23, 2024 when a couple came in that I had not seen before. I have eaten at this restaurant dozens of times in the last 7 years and I LOVE this restaurant! The food is very delicious and nourishing! I am so Grateful the buffett has reopened! The couple came in and they were complaining before they even sat down! It was very uncomfortable for all the customers as well as the owner. Nobody understood what this couple was doing! I've never been in such a situation before! Eventually the couple sat down to eat one table away from me. I heard the lady expressing that the food was VERY good. She was bringing all kinds of dishes for her husband to try. This is when the owner asked the couple to please consider the amount of plates they were using (while taking a lot of excess food) ... The owner suggested she would charge a tiny dime per plate and the customers got offended and were arguing worse than they were before with each other and with the owner! It was Bizarre! Since then the couple decided to write two negative "reviews" against Preethi which is Ridiculous! If you look into their "reviews" they have a combined total of 7 negative reviews for other businesses! NO positive reviews! SO I am writing this POSITIVE review because I was there the day that the couple came in ... I have been to this restaurant dozens of times and it has always been and always will be consistently WONDERFUL and Delicious! I expect it to be and it is! Worst indian food ever had.. I ordered on Doordash. I ordered idli, dosa and samosa.. None of the food I could eat. I had to throw .. waste of money. Dosa was completely burnt. Idli was very old. Preethi has one of the better buffets if you're a meat eater. Their vegetarian options aren't great in my opinion, they're lacking in greens that aren't fried. Their chicken is super tender and wonderfully flavorful. Their naan is not very good though, not fresh. The biryani tasted good but is loaded with chicken bones. Miss the lack of saag. Good desserts with the donut and rice kheer. Service wasn't that attentive but then again it was very packed for lunch. A MUST try in Davis, especially for vegetarian food. They are the cutest, family-run little restaurant, with high quality food and they work so hard to make the experience the best possible for all of their customers. You get a really good amount of food for what you pay, and the staff was easy to work with, very sweet. We ordered the Okra Masala and the Chana Saag which both came with a choice of naan or basmati rice (we chose the naan for both and were pleasantly surprised by the good size of the bread). I would order both again in a heartbeat, and my mom agreed. Especially recommend the okra, it was the exact right amount of spicy without overwhelming the dish, super flavorful and well seasoned. This place is not what it used to be. I used to eat here when I was a UCD student, 5 years ago. I came here tonight with my girlfriend and it was flat out disappointing. The server was a kid that had no enthusiasm. The samosas tasted slimy and bland. I paid $18 for the butter chicken that barely had any protein. My girlfriend got the lamb curry and it smelled like armpit. Her entree also barely had any protein. Our stomachs are currently hurting 10 after eating. Please pray that we make it through the night. I normally doordash food from Kathmandu Kitchen, but I tried doordashing from this place tonight instead because Kathmandu was closed. I ordered two entrees, two naan breads, and a side of rice. I don't know if they think that they can do whatever they want with doordash orders, but my order was terrible. My naan bread was so burnt that I could smell that it was burnt the second I opened the tinfoil. I also received white rice, like the kind that you get at a chinese restaurant, rather than basmati rice, and it was entirely plain and not traditionally cooked whatsoever. The entrees were just alright, nothing to rave about. If you want actually good food (and I mean the best Indian food I've ever had, after trying a lot of Indian food) go to Kathmandu Kitchen instead- I'm a regular and they've never disappointed me. read more

Let me preface this by saying, daylight savings time...possibly...but not really. 2 stars for the mushroom korma. 1 Star for the plain rice. I came here early Sunday 11:10a (they opened at 11a) and waited for about 10 mins until they put the serving spoons in (it's now 11:20a). The place isn't clean. Not super dirty, dusty, just check all of your plates and glasses before use (I didn't have any water for this reason). Didn't have naan as it wasn't ready by the time I finished eating. I won't return, but assume it's due to the daylight savings time...possibly...but not really. Also, $13.00, which is fine, I guess. I tried the butter naan, plain naan , paneer chatpata and samosas. The samosas were decent and the chutneys accompanying it were not that great. The paneer chatpata seemed to have a lot of food color in the gravy, the taste was decent too. The only thing good was the naan. They were soft and tasty. I love Indian food, all the flavors and colors are just beautiful... I have never ate at Preethi but have drove by enough to know I needed to try it. Super friendly staff, I called my order in and got a super friendly employee.. We ordered the Sambar, Poori, Bavaria Baihngan, Aloo Mutter, Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Ravaa Masala Dosa! Everything was beautiful! The outside of the Rava Masala Dosa was a little salty (for me) but the veggies inside were perfect! Cooked perfectly not soggy not too crisp.. The Aloo Mutter and the poori were my favorite dishes! The veggies in the aloo mutter again cooked and seasoned perfectly! And well let's face it poori is just amazing! The Bavaria Baihngan is good, had a spicy kick so make sure you've got a little rice too calm it down but if you like eggplant this has a great sauce to go with it! The chicken Tikka Masala was good.. and the sambar was good- very soupy not as thick as I thought it would be. Overall if you want something tasty give it a go! I will be back! Looking for a good and budget friendly Indian buffet? I'd definitely suggest Preethi in Davis. Preethi has a relaxing, easy going atmosphere with friendly servers. The restaurant itself isn't the best looking or orderly, but it doesn't distract too much from the nice variety of food you can select at the buffet. The buffet itself isn't the largest you've ever seen. I'd say it's more medium/modest in size, but there is always something tasty to go back for. I'd say the quality of the food goes from decent to pretty good. Nothing there is going to extremely wow you, rather it's a very nice overall experience. I typically enjoy getting the Indian rice with their different varieties of chicken. The sauces are delicious and pair perfectly with the rice. The naan is tasty as well. One of the cool things they do is bring you fresh naan when it is made. Though there is naan available at the buffet, it always seems cooler when one of the servers brings you a fresh batch from the kitchen. To end the meal I usually go for one of their dessert soups. They are not too sweet and a pleasant way to end the meal. I think Preethi is better than the sum of its parts. I was really thinking this place would be a three star restaurant for me, but I could go to Preethi again and again and have not qualms with it! read more

We came for the buffet, because weeks ago I had seen the sign and I never know what to order, but I know what I like when I see it. I am here in Davis for work from NY. I love Indian food so I wanted to check out what was local. I ordered the cab sav and the boneless chicken biryani thali. In my past experiences, chicken biryani has bits of bone in it so I was excited to see boneless! I didn't read the menu well enough so I didn't ask for it mild (I have a sensitive stomach to heat). The flavor is really good but the heat is too much. When you order the thali, you get an assortment of sides and a dessert. I normally eat out with someone who can identify the sides but tonight i was on my own. Everything was actually pretty good! It is also a TON of food so if you're not really hungry, don't go for that! The wine was so-so but I am guessing most people don't come here for their wine so I will let that pass... Overall, the food is great (I should have just been more thoughtful with my order). And I will also mention that the restaurant was empty when I came in and by the time my meal came, it is packed! I ordered medium & only one item was too spicy: The eggplant side dish. If its too much for you dive into, the rice pudding & the pitcher of water might help. Price was around $13 + drink. Butter chicken was fabulous - very Americanized (not hot) but thats ok by me. Creamy, sooo creamy & rich. You can taste the ghee smoothing it out. The food here is mostly decent, but largely inconsistent. I'd highly recommend not dining in because the service here might be the rudest in Davis. They seem to be in as perpetually bad mood and on repeat visits this isn't an isolated incident.
