They came to demo and left more fans and a dehumidifier
    Judy L.

This is a review for both of Preferred Choice's Divisions: Preferred Choice Restoration & Preferred Choice Construction. You know I hate giving 1 or 2 stars reviews but here we go: Preferred Choice Restoration Review -The water softener burst on Friday 8/2 morning, damaged the garage, laundry room, hallway closet, foyer closet, most of the baseboard and partial of the walls inside the home. My plumber stopped the leak and he recommended Preferred Choice and Sarah would take care of all this for me. I should have done some research before just calling, I was just overwhelmed by this damaged and upcoming surgery. -Cameron Friday 8/2 in the afternoon from the Preferred Choice Restoration side of the company came out. He reviewed, marked it up, treated the areas with a spray, left 2 fan for the garage, and one for the foyer closet. He said someone from the company will call and/or come by to check on the process during the weekend. No one did called or come over to check until Monday. -Monday Luis came back to check, review the process, and let us know the demo team was coming out on Tuesday. -Demo team came out on Tuesday, tore out the garage walls, baseboard, grout, closet walls, etc They cleaned very nice after themselves in the house. The garage was a cleaned up ok. They left more fans and a dehumidifier. They did not check to see if all the electrical was worked when they left. I did not realized 30 mins later, some of the lights, garage door, laundry room, etc. was out. I had to call them to come back. They came back turned everything back on. -They removed my water heater during demo, so I assume everything was put back together. Not only we did not have hot water, but it started to leak from there they dwelled the pipes back on. I notified the owner Sarah about the issue. -Cameron came out on Saturday. He only came to remove the fans and dehumidifier. He did do anything about the leak from the water heater and the fact we have not had hot water in the house since they left on Tuesday. He told us to call my plumber to fix it. I notified the owner Sarah about the issue again. She told me to get a hold of my plumber as well. Very fortunate that my plumber is a neighbor and he came by on Morning morning to stop the leak. But still no hot water. I notified the owner Sarah about the issue. -Luis came back on Tuesday and figured out the issue, the demo team from 7 days ago never connected back the electrical element. We had hot water again. I was trying to run my laundry and found out the water spouts were not turned back to on from the demo team. Preferred Choice Construction Review -Jeff the Project Manager came out to see what is to be repaired. He gave me timelines and did call when he was suppose to to advise me of the process. -The construction crew came out on 8/22 Thursday almost finished with the walls, baseboards, paint, etc. They cleaned up well after themselves. -Then 8/28 Wednesday, the Quality Manager came to complete the rest of the repairs, paint, grouts, and review the work. I showed him the constructed areas and what is still left. He first argued with me and did not want to fill the gaps (were the grout was). I was like your company tore it out and I need to back to seal the gaps left by the new baseboards. He said it is not side of the companies issue. When he left I noticed gaps and cracks everywhere (see my pictures). No, I did not call the owner Sarah this time. I had surgery the next day and I did not want to deal with the stress of all horrible experiences with both Preferred Choice Restoration & Construction. I am 1/2 way recovered from my surgery today and now I still have to deal with the gap and grout issues. What a headache! I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Email they sent. Note at the bottom.

Do NOT work with this company! This is my experience with this company from my point-of-view. My husband and I called this company after a plumber mentioned seeing mold under our kitchen sink. A guy from Preferred Choice Restoration company came out and told us how much it would cost to fix. The guy quoted us $1000 and said that they'd pull everything out right away, and then in a week or two, after the cabinet came in, put everything back (a summary of the conversation). We asked if there were any additional costs, and he said, no, and that they'd get a contract out to us stating that it wouldn't be more than a $1000, no matter what. We got the contract, read it over, and signed it. They came out and pulled everything out. Then, a few days later, we got a new contract and a bill for $4,027.08... to put everything back in. We called and got a hold of the manager, who said there was a line in the first email that said it was for demolition and dryout only, so said that's all it contained, and we have to pay 4x as much to put everything back in. We argued with him for awhile, and he didn't care. He says he doesn't believe his guys didn't tell us there were additional costs, and that there's basically nothing they can do for us. So, we owe them $1000, and then have to find someone else to put everything back in. These guys were SO smooth. We really trusted them and thought they were good people. I can't stress this enough. They really made us feel like we were in good hands. I honestly don't know what we could've done differently... except for notice that ONE line. We're going to be filing a complaint with Arizona Registrar of Contractors and anyone else we can file a complaint with. Steer clear of them! This is the worst company we've worked with since owning a house. Also, I attached the line in the contract that suggests they'll be replacing everything, and the line at the bottom of the email we never even saw, because we clicked and opened the contract as soon as we got it. I don't know how the line at the bottom of the email negates all their other promises, but, apparently, it does.

My husband and I recently bought our first home, and while trying to complete some minor upgrades, we discovered mold. We immediately panicked, assuming the absolute worst. After reading their excellent reviews, I decided to give them a call--and I am so glad I did. Everyone who came out to our house was incredible, friendly, and deeply professional. They made an incredibly stressful situation completely painless, and they treated our home as if it were their own. One important tip for future customers: This company focuses strictly on remediation, meaning they do not handle the reconstruction or repairs (like replacing drywall) once the mold is gone. This wasn't an issue for me--I simply called around and found a local contractor to patch things up afterward--but it's important to go in with the right expectations and always ask questions! The team members we worked with deserve individual recognition: Brandan came out first to rule out any active plumbing leaks. Once he confirmed the mold wasn't plumbing-related, he kindly offered to inspect the rest of our new home's plumbing. He caught a few minor issues, explained his recommendations clearly, and provided no-pressure quotes. We are so relieved to finally have a trustworthy plumber on speed dial! He then immediately looped in their mold specialist, Ruben. Ruben arrived the very same day to assess the mold and provide a fair quote. He was incredibly sympathetic to our situation and reassured us that he would remove as little material as possible while keeping the home safe and thorough. We immediately knew we were in good hands. A few days later, Ruben and Ivan completed the work. They were punctual, efficient, and surprisingly quiet. Not only did they finish on time, but they also managed to save an entire wall and our builder shelves. Because they saved the wall, Ruben actually adjusted our final invoice down to reflect the lower material removal--a massive financial relief for first-time homebuyers. Ruben took extensive photos, walked me through the containment zone to explain their findings, and even returned the next day to walk my husband through the exact same breakdown so we were both fully informed. The final report they provided was incredibly thorough, detailing every single step with photographic evidence. My husband can be very picky about contracted work, and even he was completely impressed and had zero critiques. We were so incredibly stressed, and the calm presence and expertise this team brought into our home was invaluable. After a separate, highly disappointing experience with a different local plumbing company just days prior, "Good Time" completely restored our faith in local businesses. I cannot recommend them highly enough!

We learned the hard way that many companies make big promises just to win your business. In our case, we had over $500,000 in fire and water damage, and it seemed like everyone else was more concerned about their profit margins than helping us. Some even tried to play games with the insurance company by requesting payment for items that weren't warranted. ASAP Restoration was completely different. They were honest, upfront, and transparent from day one. They took the time to review every budget, selection, and step of the process with us, making sure we understood everything along the way. The entire team is outstanding, and Josh, the owner, truly leads by example. He tells it like it is, doesn't overpromise, and works tirelessly to make sure things get done the right way. His communication is second to none,I'd much rather have someone who over-communicates than leaves me wondering what's happening. Our biggest delay wasn't ASAP at all, it was our mortgage company and lender taking their time to release funds. Throughout that entire process, Josh worked alongside us every step of the way, helping us navigate the challenges and keeping the project moving whenever possible. The finished product looks incredible, and looking back, the extra few weeks it took to get on their schedule was absolutely worth the wait. If you're looking for a restoration company that values honesty, quality, communication, and truly cares about its customers, I can't recommend ASAP Restoration and Construction enough. Thank you to Josh and the entire team for making a difficult situation so much easier!

Before the plumber even arrived, three different restoration companies showed up at my door. The strange part? I never called any of them and nobody told me anyone was coming out. I did overhear one of the technicians I allowed in for a "free evaluation" on speakerphone with the plumber asking if a $2,000 finder's fee sounded reasonable. I kept my mouth shut but it definitely raised some red flags. I listened to all three companies separately and then decided to do some serious research online. While some companies have plenty of glowing Google reviews, once you start looking at other sources like Yelp, the Arizona ROC, and the BBB, the picture can look very different. Consider this a friendly warning to homeowners: do your homework. After digging deeper, I was fortunate to find ASAP Restoration. One thing that immediately stood out is that they do not work referral deals with plumbers, do not pay kickbacks, and do not play games with deductibles. They simply focus on doing the job correctly. The team was extremely professional. The mitigation/demo crew handled the water damage quickly and thoroughly, and the reconstruction team has been excellent. We're now about 90% finished with the rebuild and everything is coming together great. I just felt the need to share my experience before heading out for spring break. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, take a breath, do your research, and call a company that focuses on integrity and quality work. For me, that company was ASAP Restoration.

In-fighting: estimator and project manager (Darly and Sonia) not working together, blaming each other and telling the customer it's the other persons fault. The customer having to talk to each, then having to escalate to the owners. The owners not managing their employees (Jim Tax and Christina Tax). Estimating things higher then reasonable: for all estimate and change orders the insurance company not approving the first submission and ultimately the estimate being re-done for a lower price. Double charges in the estimate. Charged for take down of a shower glass, and later charging for the same take down of shower glass in a change order to replace. Trying to maximize their profits and thinking the insurance not noticing which in turn is an extended timeframe for the customer. All change order having to be paid upfront before they do any work regardless on the amount. This is not a Servpro policy, it is this Gilbert franchise policy. This review is for the first one, a bedroom ceiling/roof leak that needed mold mitigation, asbestos testing and renovation. March 2025: Leak originally started as a moisture spot on the ceiling in October 2024 but my HOA ignored it. By March 2025, the ceiling had become so compromised that water streamed in like a waterfall during a massive storm. My original contact was Noah - he gave me an estimate (along with two other companies). I really appreciated how Noah was communicative, informative and thorough. And! he didn't badger me w/ phone calls & emails, like the other two companies did. He understood that I said I would take care of the situation when I could b/c I was in the middle of Massage Therapy school. I understood the "risks" of having mold & just shut the bedroom off. Fast forward to August 2025 & now we're ready to take care of the situation. Noah followed protocol of getting an asbestos test first. Luckily, it was negative. Then Spencer, their Mitigation Specialist? built a special containment room, inside the guest bedroom that sealed off the contaminated area. Heavy duty fans stayed on for about 72 hours? so the area could be thoroughly dried after being treated w/ some kind of mold treatment. Noah was available via text when I had questions - that was surprising & super helpful! Once Mitigation was completed, Noah connected me w/ Jacob at their Restoration Department. He sent over a stellar crew led by David & they proceeded to rebuild about a quarter of the bedroom - meant to mention that they had to rip out dry wall, scaffolding, etc. This crew rebuilt and then refinished the area, including re-installing wainscotting and painting the ceiling + walls. The results? This bedroom looks gorgeous! We were thrilled with how thorough/smooth ATH was w/ this process & how the renovation turned out. Highly recommend this company for their professionalism, flexibility and high standards. Thanks to the ATH Team!

We called him on March 15th, he came out on the 17th and let us know the steps and process of what to do. He said to call our insurance (State Farm), assured us that they do a lot of work together and to make a claim. He said to tell State Farm we are working with a restoration company (Slate) and to start the claim. Alex did not give us a quote at this time but wanted us to process the claim in which we did. When that was done he started planning on his equipment arriving and getting the job started. Since she had told us that State Farm is a tricker insurance where he has seen claims like this get approved but also has seen claims like this get denied, we were VERY hesitant to start work and voiced our concern. We also told him we do not feel comfortable starting this process without the approval many times but he assured us by saying "Don't worry, I wouldn't accept this job if I thought it'd be denied" "It's okay, that we don't have the approval because if we don't, it's my job to get the approval because that is how we get paid." Our trust in him got our better judgment and we signed the papers to start work without getting a number estimate but again we have voiced that we want to stop at the threshold of our insurance deductible at $2500 because without approval we did not want to come out of pocket that much. We made it very clear financially we will not be able to go above that as well as move forward without being approved by insurance. Again, he was reassuring us that there is no way that this could be denied. (Texts messages attached of us asking for estimates and saying we need to stay with our deductible threshold) When the crew came on the 20th and started to pack up we had a conversation with the team because they were telling us how they would have to put plastic tarps up, cut out the cabinets (in the areas where the leak was not at.) I could only say "okay" cause I do not know what is right and wrong, what is wet and needs to be dried, I can only trust the company we hired. But when Thomas heard all of this, once again he questioned "why do you need to pull out all these cabinets? The leak is now there? What do you need to cut out the drywall that far? Why do you need to hang up tarps? That will be an additional cost." Which again, at this time Alex and his crew mentioned that they needed to test for asbestos, that they testing would be to our cost. I said, "okay but if it is hot for asbestos, would that make this claim more expensive? Because again, we have not gotten approval and if what is done so far is MORE than $2500 if it is hot for asbestos how much would that add on?" Alex said, "If it's hot for asbestos that will probably be an addition $1500" I then reminded and asked him again, "Okay Alex, remember we do not want to go over our $2500 if we are not approved yet. What are we at right now, cause if we are hot for asbestos and that adds $1500 we are already really close to our deductible. Shouldn't we stop until we get approved so Thomas will not be upset with the total?" Once again, "no, no Michele I am confident we can get this covered" Well, they ended up gutting our kitchen, ripping out the cabinets and ruining them that we can not put them back together, they told us no matter what they would do everything in the least invasive way possible because they needed to take pictures for the insurance company but again with the confidence that they would get this covered explained to us,"it's okay if they are damaged because if the insurance can not find a comparable match to what you have they will need to replace not only the cabinets pulled out but replace the entire kitchen."
