Love this place. Glad they take my insurance again. Both medical and eye.

This place is wayyy better than pearl or target or something crappy like that. The doctors here are competent and knowledgeable.

First off, this is not hyperbole. I had never been to this provider before. If you want to be…read morecompletely swindled this is the place for you. I had a standard appointment and the optometrist talked me up for an hour. After that I was passed off to true con sales person. I'm far sighted as part of natural aging. Nothing that would add cost to my glasses. I chose a modest round frame, which priced about the same as any other eye clinic. Without going over any add ons such anti-glare, etc. the con-woman comes back and tells me the glasses were $700. The most I've paid for past prescriptions with frames was $500 tops. Con-woman continues on with her spiel talking everything up and graciously offers a discount to $550. I made the mistake of not going over the paperwork. Yes, I was very tired from work but still my fault. What I end up with is bare bones glasses with no anti-glare not to mention all the other upgrades I've added on at Pearle Vision for my previous glasses. So after two hours of literal non-stop endless talking, the kind that doesn't let you think, which is a pretty standard trait of grifters, I finally leave the clinic. This is the last words I hear from the con-woman. "Thank YOU!" in the most cliche grifter tone. Only after I picked up my glasses did I realize they were just junk. First time driving at night I had to take the glasses off the glare from on coming cars was too much. I was beyond livid. I'm using my old glasses. No, you don't expect to be flat out swindled at a eye care clinic. It is absolutely my fault for being suckered. Hopefully my loss is your gain because this place is a fucking literal racket.

From our family's limited experience, quality of care is fine. The billing/coding department…read moreoverbills. My child went in for an annual wellness check. Our insurance was billed for preventative medical care, hearing test, developmental test, and visual acuity screening. The visual acuity screen charge conflicted with my insurance's allowance of one annual vision exam per year for our son, so we were hit with a $348.00 charge when our son went to an eye doctor. Our insurance advised that they would cover the 348 dollar eye exam if Health East would rebill this and write off the $7.59 vision screen that they billed for (the clinic received over 300 dollars for this well visit, as it was with all of the upcharges). I called the billing department, explained my predicament, and was told that they would refer this to "customer care" to consider the upcharge for the vision screen. After a couple of weeks, I got a letter from their patient advocate who basically told me I am SOL. She claimed in her letter to me that reversing the $7.59 upcharge on their bill would not affect whether our insurance would cover the eye exam with the qualified eye doctor. I don't think she would have had any basis of knowing this because I see no evidence that she discussed this with the eye doctor, or with my insurance. According to my insurance, Health East's response absolutely would have affected how my insurer would have handled it. Fortunately for me, my insurance was able to take care of this without Health East's assistance. I don't plan on going back to Health East based on this insufficient customer service experience - I know if I were to run into billing issues with them in the future, they won't make any effort to try to make things right. If they are not able to cut $7.59 from a patient's bill, knowing it will cost their patient $348, I would hate to think about their response if they had more than 10 bucks at stake. Unfortunate, because they are closer to my house than Allina, but we are probably going to be making the drive to Allina in the future to avoid any other nightmares like this.
