Decided to stop in on our way out of downtown Poulsbo. As we walked the main street, we kept seeing a sign advertising Premier meat pies. The suggestive advertising worked on us, lol. The restaurant is located about two blocks off the main street in downtown Poulsbo. There's street parking available right out front or directly across the street. They offer both savory and sweet pies with a variety of toppings. We opted for the Classic Scottish pie. It was nice and warm and had a nice flavor. The crust was cooked perfectly. It's good, but pricey for what you get. Individual pies are too small to fill you up. I am not a big eater. you order at the front. Ambiance is in and out, get your food and leave. if you want to eat on the premises, well, it's uncomfortable cheap chairs and cramped tables in a small, uninviting space. Best to take order to go. In case this helps others with allergies/dietary restrictions. All the pies contain dairy, except for the vegan one, but that one has legumes. read more

The pies are legit. Nicely portioned with ample fillings and flaky semi-buttery crust. I got to try the shepherd's pie and lamb curry meat pies. The lamb curry was outstanding. The shepherd's pie had all the flavors of a decent usual shepherd's pie but was nowhere near as tasty as the lamb curry. The place is small, so I was glad my order was a takeout. The service was quick because the pies were in a warmer. It was early in the day, so everything tasted fresh. Not sure how fresh they'd be later in the day. I like that the menu is extensive. Absolutely delicious! We got the lamb curry, steak and mushroom, and the Shepard's pie to go. We've never had meat pies, and we will definitely go back! The crust was so butter and flakey, the filling was delectable. This is a must try place for warm, comforting food! As far as the service, we happened to be there during the Viking festival so parking wasn't easy, and people were a plenty. While waiting to grab our food, there was a very rude older couple who just could not understand that food takes time to cook, and drinks aren't free. But the employee working at the time navigated the cranky couple with kindness and professionalism. So go check them out, they will not disappoint! read more

I expected so much more from a place labeled premier meat pies, but unfortunately there was nothing premier about it. The meat pies are premade and frozen. Let me tell ya a little story about a meat pie joint and a gal named Gwen! Rolled into the brewery next door and had a few suds with my peeps and I got a rumble for some viddals. I remember seeing a meat market as I parked, so I ran over to check out the meat. Well, needless to say, I read wrong. It was Premier Meat Pies. This is where Gwen comes in. This gal with brilliant ginger hair with vibrant eye liner greets me as i look disappointed for not seeing the great cuts of meat I expected from a butcher shop; my bad! After Gwen filled me in on the restaurant and all there cleverly curated meat/veggie pies, I decided "when in Rome" and decided to order some grub. Gwen, expertly guided me through all the yummies and I ended up ordering a dozen or so choices that she suggested. I brought them back to my gang at the beer place and we enjoyed all the choices like ravaged dogs! Gwen was awesome and made my experience an awesome one. Will be back forsure! Ps. You're in Tottenham, or Liverpool, or Newcastle, waiting to root for your home club in a Premier League soccer match. Along the edge of the stadium is a small stand, its owner frantically slinging traditional pies and pasties (no, that's not misspelled). Cornish. Welsh. All flaky with savory or sweet fillings, topped with delicious additions. The kitchen is meager. The staff are chopping fresh veggies in the middle of a cramped space surrounded by ovens and display cases. But the line around the block tells you all you need to know. Now drop that onto a non-descript street, outside a simple storefront, in Poulsbo. There you have this place. Gayle and I dropped in, placed our order with the woman at the counter, and hastily grabbed the last of the first-come, first-serve table tops on the sidewalk. Seating is scarce, but that part of the charm. On the menu: Two "Epic Pie Experiences." A pie, a topper, and a side. Gayle had the traditional Steak and Mushroom, topped with Guinness gravy and a side of yukon mashed potatoes with more of that same rich gravy. For me, it was the less traditional Chicken and Hatch Chile pie, topped with sour cream and a loaded mashed potato side. The pies were excellent. Clearly the stars of the show. They're made in the traditional style... crispy thin crust "bowl" topped with a flaky crust topper (or, on the Hatch Chile pie, a corn masa top). Gayle felt her pie was a little short on steak (3 little pieces), but the gravy was rich and very flavorful. I felt my Hatch Chile pie was a tad dry, but having been to London for the original, that's what I was expecting. The flavors were amazing and spot on. The sides were... well... very British. Dense, plentiful, if maybe underseasoned. But again... that's the UK cuisine experience. Let's be clear... this is not a gourmet pie shop. Nor does it try to be. It's good food, traditional with twists on that tradition, made fresh and served by a crew who is clearly enjoying themselves. We'll be back for more. We ordered ours to go. My pie took about 20 minutes to cook. Longer than I expected. I got the 'epic experience'. I got their mac and cheese pie, mashed potato and gravy topper, and broccoli slaw as the side. The gravy was in a separate container so the pie wouldn't get soggy. The pie crust part was very tough. I had to saw at it with a fork and knife. It was all good though. The slaw is addicting. Service was ok. Separating the gravy was probably a good idea. I just didn't like the wait. Tasty savory pies. We had the Guiness Irish Stew, Cottage Pie, and Classic Scottish with mash and gravy on top. I did the "Epic pie experience" so I also tried their chili. I'd say the best of the bunch was the Guiness Irish Stew. The chili was also very good. There's parking on the street, across the street from the restaurant and another parking lot steps away. It has dine in as well as take out. The guy at the counter (Tony) was able to answer questions and was very helpful/friendly. It was very quiet, which was a bit of a bummer. We were excited to try this place, but it was just, meh... The counter gentleman that took our order was friendly. You do seat yourself, grab your menu, and order at the counter. The inside seating is somewhat crowded, and the kitchen noise is loud, so take out would probably be better. As for the food... We got two lunch meals (2 meat pies with a side), a diet soda and a beer for $60 and change. The meat pies seemed very doughy (maybe not cooked throughly), with not as much filling, and not as tasty as we were imagining for the price. The mashed potatoes and gravy were fine. The loaded tater tots were good, but nothing we couldn't make in an air fryer. Lastly, the on-tap beer was flat...‍ I'm sorry, we wanted to love the pies, but they were sadly unremarkable. read more

Today is thenfirst time we have tried Premier Meat Pies. The pies themselves were wonderful. The worker, she was not. Very curt, and definitely hates her job. I had to use the restroom while there. First couple of times going to the restroom, the door was locked, so I returned to our table. Ten minutes later, I headed to the restroom for the third time, and door was locked. First let me tell you that we were the only customers. She would look up each time I returned to the table. I decided to ask if possibly I needed a key for the restroom. Review of dessert pies only. The Banana chocolate bread pudding pie was a sad, dry mess of chewy bread cubes and chocolate sauce in a leathery, almost inedible "crust." It was devoid of anything resembling "custard" and there was not a fresh banana in sight. It also didn't taste of bananas. Awful. The coffee cake was not terrible. But if you're going to try for English style fare, you better get tea right, and that means milk, not half and half. Being prompted to tip is particularly galling in a charmless place such as this, where you pick up a menu at door, order at the counter, pick up your food at the counter, find yourself a table, and clear your dishes. Food- Daughter got the Mac and cheese, mash tators and gravy topper on the side and a Caesar salad. She finished everything except the pie crust (note-I haven't seen my daughter finish a meal in a long time! So that probably says a lot!). FYI, I took a bite of it and it was pretty darn good! I got the steak and mushroom with mash tators and gravy on top and ordered a side of pickled veggies but they didn't have them so I got the caprese salad. We also order the loaded tots with poutine. I would say it is a bit on the pricey side but the quality of the ingredients are not in question and everything cost a lot right now. Uggh Salads were fresh, loaded tots with poutine had the right kind of super pull tested cheese and the gravy was flavorful! My pie was flavorful and I really want to try all of them! Service- All employees were pleasant and it's understandable that they are in their first couple weeks since opening. Some hickups with ordering and the dining area isn't set up for large groups. Some older ladies came in and ordered while we were waiting for our food and they didn't have a place to sit because the folded up chairs were next to my daughter seat. I jumped up and set up the chairs for the ladies and there were jokes by some customers that I deserved a tip. Ok, let's talk about tips. Uggh! The way things were set up when we came in today were that you order at the counter, they give you your cups for the soda and water which you serve yourself, they call your order and you pick up your food at the counter and you bus your own counter. I personally hate the pre tip culture and I often end up feeling like I need to tip heavy in order to get good service. The lowest pre calculated tip on the card payment is 15% which for our meal was about $8.50. I hate to seem like a cheap bastard but I normally tip 15-20% for servers that come to my table to take my order, bring me food and bus my table. Ambiance- Store is clean and newly set up. I wouldn't go with more than 4 people or you might not get to sit together. They were bringing supplies in when we were there and the layout will probably improve in the future but seating was tricky. We got lucky and grab the seat at the window after a couple left (there were still crumbs on the table but we aren't snobs so didn't really care). Wondering if they will start using dishes that aren't disposable in the future. Was interesting to see that the utensils are compostable but there isn't an option besides garbage of recyclable so that kinda defeats the purpose of compostable utensils (I love the attempt though as they will probably break down sooner in a garbage dump then normal plastic). Looking forward to trying the other pies and seeing the restaurant be a success in Poulsbo! Hopefully the crew doesn't recognize me for this post and know that I'm not going to tip as much next time. I ordered the lamb curry, it was all crust, only abour 2 tablespoons filling, my husband got the traditional Scotch pie, more filling, but no mace in the filling ant way to many oats. The potato leek soup was horrible, large hunks of potato, it was not creamed like it should be, and again bad flavor. The price point is moderate, for $20.99 you can get any pies, toppings, as well as your choice of side (soup or salad). Premier has an arrangement of soft drinks, ice tea, coffee, herbal tea, and a small selection of beer and wine. I tried the Viognier, which was decent. Admittedly, I favor California wine, but I definitely respect their effort to keep things local. My lunch selection was the chicken hatch chili pie. I opted for a little melted cheese on top. Chelsea took the time to add a little chopped chives to the dish - boosting the flavor and adding to the visual appeal of the dish. The pie was savory, well seasoned, and simply full of flavor. The experience transported me back to my time living in Australia! Chelsea was unbelievably friendly and hospitable, which cemented my decision to give this experience a 5-star rating! This is the second time we have been to this shop. There is a great variety of meat pies. This time, we tried the steak and mushroom, and the chicken hatch chili. This place was disappointing. I was intrigued by the idea of a "meat pie" and this just seemed to be a bit of a let down. I had the steak and cheese pasties and my husband had the Irish stew pie. Mine didn't seem very fresh at all. Like it seemed like something you'd thaw from the freezer and then microwave. It was definitely okay but not great, and just not want I was hoping for I guess. The Irish stew pie was tastier but seemed overpriced for what it was. There was absolutely no "service" to speak of which is fine but to me it's always awkward to tip at a place like that. I tipped because it seemed to be expected but the person at the counter definitely didn't do anything to earn a tip. They didn't make any eye contact or really welcome us or direct us in anyway. So I guess my overall impression was that the pies were overpriced for what you get. May have been an off day or my expectations were just too high but my husband and I were unimpressed. read more
