I am absolutely disgusted by my experience with Premier Emergency Vet in Mundelein. My family has only had our 13-week-old Great Dane puppy for one week. When she suffered a leg injury and needed emergency veterinary care, I brought her to Premier Emergency Vet seeking help. Instead, I was told they were "at capacity" and would not see her. As a pet owner, being told that an emergency veterinary hospital would not evaluate an injured puppy is unacceptable. Emergency facilities exist to provide care for sick and injured animals, yet my puppy was turned away when she needed medical attention. What made this even more disturbing was finding only two vehicles in the parking lot and an empty waiting room with no visible patients or animals. From my perspective, there was no indication that the facility was overwhelmed or unable to provide care. The entire experience left me angry, disgusted, and heartbroken. We had only welcomed this puppy into our family a week earlier, and when she was injured and needed help, the emergency facility we turned to refused to see her. In my opinion, turning away sick or injured pets that need urgent medical attention is the exact opposite of what an emergency veterinary hospital should be doing. Pet owners seek out emergency veterinary care because they believe their animals will receive help when they need it most. Based on my experience, I would not trust this facility with the care of my animals. If your pet is sick or injured and you are seeking emergency treatment, I strongly encourage you to consider whether this is the type of response you would want to receive during a medical emergency involving your beloved companion. Stay away because of this place my cat suffered a painful death. They told me she was perfectly fine . Blood work was great. X-ray was good. Gave me some probiotics. My cat was worse the next morning. I found a great vet green tree with an ultrasound. My cat had a mass (cancer)on her bowel. She was in pain try to have a bowel movement. They told me oh, it shows she's ready to have a bowel movement. Give her probiotics. I missed this voicemail. They should have never left such a message. And not call me back and personally talk to me. My cat was euthanized 12 hours after going to this place. Charged me $1,300 for what??letting my cat suffer. The vet there said she had a good 10 years left. Is she psychic. Guess what it was 12 hours.I also had to wait 3 hours. When i walked in no one was there. . I hope you guys can sleep at night. I've had too many issues with this place for my experiences to be a fluke. My first run in with this clinic was for my dog that had torn his skin open on his hip. I brought the dog in and they triaged him and decided his hip being filleted open wasn't important enough to take care of in a timely manner. By the time they got to him, it was 6 hrs later and the skin around the wound had died. They apologized and offered to let him stay overnight for free (thanks for nothing). I brought another dog in that was having issues holding food down. After a battery of tests, they decided he had allergies (big bill to determine he should eat special food). I brought that same dog in for a coyote bite that I couldn't get the bleeding to stop. They thought it wasn't a bite, but a tumor that ruptured below his anus. They asked that we bring him back for the surgeon to look at him the next day and diagnose the tumor. The surgeon agreed that in fact it was a bite wound. (billed me for two visits, both $450). The final nail in the coffin happened last night. I brought that same dog in because he wasn't acting normal; thought it was because of his multiple coyote run ins. The rude vet said they'd need to run multiple test to figure out what was wrong. I shared my displeasure with my previous visits, in the hopes that I could get out in front of any potential issues. She took exception to that and became very condescending. Short version of the story is I took my dog out of that clinic on my way to another more friendly and capable facility. On my way out after paying $225 for nothing, I was being scolded by the vet, a vet tech, and a front desk staffer. They were yelling at me that my dog was going to die and that I wasn't going to have a pet and how mean I was. Hang on, I thought they needed to run tests to sort out what was going on. They knew what was going on, but were planning to bill for more unneeded test. After taking him to VEG in Buffalo Grove, they quickly diagnosed that he had a ruptured mass in his belly, and he was bleeding out internally. No further tests, no additional billing. To put a bow on my review, I'll say this. Premiere is notorious for ringing up the bill doing tests and diagnostics that aren't necessary. It's happened to me 3x there. They double billed me by having me bring my dog in for another visit that wasn't needed. A competent vet could have easily known my dog suffered from a coyote bite, not a ruptured tumor. Even I figured that out. I've come to the conclusion that they have a policy of just hitting you with tests and running up the bill. What's my proof? When I took my dog to the VEG ER in Buffalo Grove, the vet immediately diagnosed my dog as being terminal, and was very sympathetic. I've paid thousands of dollars to Premiere and have never been satisfied. I paid $500 to VEG and despite my beloved boy passing, I was satisfied with their service. If you want to get over charged and have a terrible experience, Premiere is your clinic. read more

Absolutely recommend. About a month ago our puppy fell very ill and was extremely lethargic, vomiting, coughing and lungs sounded full of fluid, fever, and diarrhea. We honestly thought we were going to lose her. They took care of her until they closed and referred us to another good hospital for overnight. The doctor was kind, informative and reassuring when we needed it most. During the hardest time they helped our Nova. We deeply thank everyone who helped our girl get better! Our very senior dog had an emergency and it was after hours for our vet. I called and the person at the front desk was extremely helpful. We went in and were seen right away and our dog received excellent care. The nurse was able to give me a quote with a range of pricing. We discussed options and proceeded with what we thought was best. The vet came out and updated us and again discussed what the options were and helped walk us through it. Our dog was well cared for. We went home with very thorough instructions, medicine and when to follow up. There was no pressure, everyone was extremely patient, compassionate and knowledgeable. I did breed rescue for 15 yrs, placing over 800 dogs into new homes, so I have seen a lot of the veterinary specialty/ER facilities on the north shore. This was by far the best. On Saturdy I got in a new dog with breathing issues, and the ER (Dr. Zastera) team were able to take her immediately. While I was there, I was kept apprised frequently of her status and what they were doing for her. She needed to stay the night but came home the next morning. She had an elongated palate which needed surgery, and I had a consult with Dr. Averill on Monday morning and he did the surgery a few hours later. Again I was kept apprised of her progress, and she came home later that day. Everyone met there was professional, extremely competent, and pleasant to work with. I highly recommend PVG, and the next time I need veterinary emergency care or surgery, this is where I will be going. Thanks PVG! read more

At every step of the process, the team at Premier gave us our options without judgement, reassured us that no decision was the wrong one, and was transparent about pricing. When it ultimately came time to say goodbye to our Lola, we chose to do so at Premier. They created a truly comfortable experience given the circumstances. Lola was treated with dignity and we were given the space we need to grieve. They gave us pills to treat her earache and that did not help one bit, and made her head tilt worse, she was more dizzy and falling over. Took our dog for a second opinion come to find out she had a STROKE! I would NEVER recommend this facility to anyone! Our little Diesel was stung by something on his right paw. We don't know if it was a bee, wasp or hornet. Within 20 minutes, he began to get a bubble above his eye and then above his nose Of course, this hppened on a Sunday so I called and asked what they recommended and they said to bring him in immediately. They let me know that it would be $215 just to look at him. In just a few minutes of me getting ready to drive him to the Animal Hospital, one began under his chin. I made it to the Animal Hospital his face, continued to swell Turns out he was having an anaphylactic reaction The ladies at the Emergency Animal Hospital were amazing. They ran in and grabbed him, pumped him with steroids, fluids, and IV. They kept me calm. They were very reassuring very professional very caring. We are now at home and on the couch where he and I will remain for the rest of the day. He looks normal again. Thank you to all the ladies who helped out with my diesel. They wouldn't answer a question, give us any advice or say ANYTHING helpful. Basically told us they weren't going to do anything at all until we came in and paid $225.00. When I need emergency care for my pet, I know Premier Veterinary Group is not far away. My dog was in distress and they took him right away and work to reverse his heart failure episode. My only complaint is that I had to take my still very sick dog to a 24 hour facility in Wisconsin that night since he needed additional critical care. He died a couple days later but they did everything they could to help him. I will continue to bring my pets here when they need emergency help. RIP Milo. read more

I've had to visit (always unfortunate to head to the ER with your pet, but I sure am glad they're there!) in the past with exotics, but this trip a few weeks ago was for my rescue pittie who had a severe allergic reaction-they were attentive, calm, and kind to my dog and I the entire LONG visit (as expected, it is a pet emergency room with many animals coming in and out in varying levels of need). They had done a few injections of meds and upon picking him up to put him on the table for a scan, he got scared and ended up being put down in a weird position, injuring his shoulder. When they brought him back to the room, the tech acknowledged what happened and that he was limping now. Fast forward a week, and that limp remained-going from 3-5 miles of walks a day, to not even wanting to go around the entire corner from home-it was painful to watch my doggo hurting. I called and spoke with the empathetic staff member at the front desk, explained the situation, and she told me she'd talk to the office manager. She returned my call promptly, they offered for me to bring him back in to see the vet on that day, so we went right in. They again were very professional and caring, examined him thoroughly, and prescribed meds to help with the pain as well as sedate him a bit to allow for healing-recommending 2 weeks of rest. I'm happy to say we made it through those 2 weeks, and he's no longer limping, and has returned to his playful, excitable self! I am beyond impressed with how they handled this situation, as I recognize they can't control how an animal reacts in any situation nevertheless an emergency, so I don't blame them for his injury. I do appreciate the fact that they did own up to what did happen though, managing it, and making sure he recovered well. Thank you to everyone who works at Premier-you all are amazing!! read more

$500 for this.... I took my dog in on Thursday for a possible UTI after noticing she had blood in her urine. I brought the specimen in with me, that I was able to collect from home. My vet office was closed unfortunately, so I had to bring her here. After they took her back to triage her and check the urine I was told that although she had blood in the urine, she did not have an infection. I then had to ask, can we do a culture? what else could it be? The Doctor said cultures sample would need to be sterile which would consist of sedating my pet to collect the urine through a needle in her abdomen she also mentioned a possible stone, which could be ruled out with an X-ray. We did the X-ray hoping for an answer, but this was negative. Sedating my dog for a sterile culture seemed to invasive when her regular vet usually is willing to send out the urine collected in a cup. We were then told to go home and just monitor. That she could have possibly passed a stone and would be expected to bleed the next few days. The next morning, we get a text from a different doctor saying the X-ray was reviewed and they recommended an ultrasound or culture. I called them to clarify the difference in recommendations (mainly since the ultrasound was not recommended the day we were there). The doctor that sent the text was different from who we saw Thursday. We discussed the ultrasound and culture, which she then stated that sedation would NOT be required to obtain the culture. And she said that I can come back and that she can do it for us. No I did not go back, by this point, my vet was now open. And they called me to follow up after seeing the ER records. They asked me to drop off a urine specimen since my dog still had blood in the urine, and guess what....rods (bacteria) found in the urine. That urine sample was sent out for a culture which also showed a high amount of bacteria. My pet has been on antibiotics since Saturday thanks to our vet, but went Thursday and Friday suffering from urgency and blood in urine, because they said she did not have an infection. Needless to say, I will not be taking my 4legged family member there again. It was a waste or time and money and I'm completely disappointed that nothing was done to make my pet feel better. The staff was nice, but they did not fix our issue. read more

NEVER TAKE YOUR PET TO PREMIER Veterinary in Grayslake. For anything. We had an emergency & it was available sooner than the specialist in Bannockburn. The doctor on call, Alex Resnick is also the director. She was unprofessional & lacking when we first went in February when all this first happened. The next day we saw a much nicer doctor who worked with the Vet Specialist in Bannockburn. Fast forward to tonight, she's one of 2 doctors available. I communicated my concerns & preference. The nurse told Dr. Resnick my opinion & then decided to " punish " us by not treating our dog. I'm shocked. How unprofessional. I asked to speak with her after they had us waste time waiting to be seen. I never raised my voice, swore, nothing. I reminded her as a ER doctor she is supposed to put the care of animals first. She's created more stress for her. Her response was that we are not allowed to go back there. Clearly it was a mistake to even go there but we wanted our dog to be cared for. So, here we are back at VSP where we should have been the whole time. Dr. Resnick refused treatment, & we were told we could wait several more hours for another doctor that might be available "after they did their rounds" There was no concern at all or empathy for my pet whatsoever. For an available doctor to delay care out of spite is cause for concern. Perhaps an ethics review is in order read more

We live in Chicago and our primary veterinarian suggested we have our dog evaluated by a cardiologist. Currently this is the only office that is accepting new patients or could get our dog in before the end of the year. The office staff are friendly and attentive and scheduling was easy. The practice has an effective covid curbside routine in place. Dr Wessberg was excellent and explained the results of our dogs echocardiogram and was available for any questions we had. The nurse came out with our dog and again went over the results. I would highly recommend Dr Wessberg and this office if you need to bring your dog to a cardiologist. The visit cost was significantly cheaper than it would have been if we had been able to see a cardiologist in the city read more

We knew our cat was likely past the point of saving but the staff and doctor gave us the options available and respected our choice to have a peaceful end to her life. They have a euthanasia room that is quiet and peaceful. They didn't rush us and we took all the time we needed. I read a lot of poor reviews based on cost, but this facility is for last minute emergency care. It is going to cost but for me it was well worth it to be sure we did all we could. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE!!! This place is extremely expensive, the wait is outrageous, it's absolutely chaotic and they have no sense of what a real emergency is. I called prior to bringing my cat in who had been vomiting and of course they encouraged me to bring him in so I did. Right away the fee just to be seen was going to be $215 and did not include any additional services or medications. My cat who is sick and anxious is in a carrier for over two hours with no food, water or access to a litter box is being passed over for none emergency pets who are walking in and are being seen right away. When I finally made a big stink about it, the lady at the front desk told me that they were being seen based on their situations, and yet I had to explain to her how a cat cannot go to the bathroom in the same way as a dog would when nature calls and threatened to walk out without paying a cent. Finally after approaching hour 3 we were seen by the vet. They proceeded to provide information without much instruction on how to best proceed. Bottom line, they gave my dehydrated cat fluids and anti-nausea medication which made him super lethargic, told me my 2 year old healthy cat had a heart murmur and then stuck me with a nearly $1200 bill. This place should be shut down and have their license revoked. It's criminal how much they charge, they have you over a barrel after keeping you waiting for so long knowing that you will pay to ensure your pet is ok. But the problem is that my cat is not ok. I have to take him to his regular vet. Because neither the nurse nor the vet made any mention of the side effects of the medication that they gave my cat. Their negligence and poor practices should be reported. I will never come back here again. read more

We were hesitant to take our boy here with the rating being low but it was an emergency. I don't understand how there are so many bad experiences here. Maybe it's the Dr. that they were seen by. We saw Dr. Riccio. Not only did we stay in the room with him she explained everything she was going to do to diagnose him. Unfortunately, she came back with devastating news. He had Hemangiosarcoma an aggressive cancer. After speaking with her about this type of cancer we chose the right thing to do was to humanly euthanize him (she didn't think he would make it thru the night). Just got home with our pup after she split open a toenail and needed it removed. The online check in was super easy and convenient. The people were SO NICE! The front desk even apologized for the "wait" (which was ten minutes after an urgent walk in...hardly a wait!) and they were very sweet and gentle with my Barley; you could tell they really love animals. Everything was efficient and they worked hard not to sedate her. At the end it cost us less than $100 and like ten minutes I was shocked!!! It was less expensive and quicker than her normal vet! Hopefully we don't need an emergency vet again soon but if we do I'll definitely come back. read more

Our 11 year old dog had an unfortunate mishap when his leg broke while walking, unable to get into our regular vet for over 24 hours, we went to Premier Veterinary Hospital and while the outcome was not what we had hoped for, it was handled with complete compassion and care. Our fur baby was treated gently and we were treated with respect and care. Prior to taking x-rays we were given a detailed list of the expenses and felt no pressure to make any specific decision, but instead they gave us all of our options and then time to process the information. Dr. Resnik and all of the staff were gentle, courteous and capable. I highly recommend this hospital. read more

For people living in Chicago! I drove almost 11/2 with traffic to see a cardiologist specialist Kelly Wessberg after a recommendation. She diagnosed my dog with heart failure and put her in 3 different medications. Dr. Wessberg explained blood work to be recheck every 3 months to make sure medication was not affecting kidney and she recommended to go back to my regular vet for follow up since I live far away. Now she is refusing to give advice on medication adjustments after last blood work came back with an alert that indeed medication is causing kidney problems. Do not spend your money on a specialist not willing to give advice after a consultation specially after spending close to $1,000. Save the trip find a local cardiologist specialist. read more

Not a true emergency care clinic. No ultrasound available and they do not perform surgery. If your pet is showing signs of distress, go to an actual emergency clinic. This clinic is more comparable to an urgent care clinic. I wasted two days coming to this clinic with them telling us there was no obstruction from the sock pieces she ate. Finally on the third day, I took her to an actual emergency clinic, only for our pet to need same day surgery for an obstruction. Precious time was wasted. read more
