I would've picked a different place but my best friend wanted a pedicure and Premiere is the closest to her house. The reviews I read for this place before coming were pretty accurate. The drain really does smell when the water is being drained. It smells like some went number two right next door and didn't turn on the fan while they were doing it, then left the door wide open. There were three of us who went. My best friend, her mom, and me. Her mom didn't have any complaints with her technician. My best friends technician was the best. He really got in there with the grater on her calluses and did a great job with the massage (so basically, ask for the old man). After the massage, a younger female painted her toes. My technician was the sloppiest. He was a younger guy and I just felt like he was dilly dallying around. The polish on my toes wasn't great. He must've missed a spot so he went back and added to it. But when you add to it and don't smooth it, it's clearly uneven and bumpier. I wear scandals and the imperfections are all I look at. My best friend said she would go back because the older man did a good job and they gave her a voucher for 10% off. read more

This used to be my favorite spot but it has gone down hill in both quality and customer service. The staff are unfriendly and always seem to be in a hurry. Usually a dip manicure lasts at least a month for me, but it started chipping the next day and it looks messy as the woman was hardly paying attention to what she was doing. When the manicure is over, they usually massage your hands with lavender lotion but she went ahead and handed me the card reader instead. They also no longer give drinks or a discount if you pay in cash, just so everyone is aware. read more

Went there for a simple nail dip, the nail tech who did my nails never said hello or anything the entire time she was doing my nails weird and rude. She acted like she could not understand English when I was explaining to her what color white I wanted. As she was applying the dip , I could already see that it was way too thick, but hopeful that when she filed it down it would thin out unfortunately that was not the case. I have yet to find a completely and totally awesome, reliable pedicure place in Iowa City, but it doesn't stop me from trying. Having become disillusioned with my last place when the pedicurist who did a good job left, I started looking again. This place seemed worth a try. But mama was wrong again. Desperately needing some pampering, I went with their best pedicure. What a phenomenal waste of money! The callous removal was non-existent. Lazy, lazy, lazy. In fact, lazy is the best way to describe the entire experience. The massage was crap. The products used were cheap crap. The painting was crap. Even worse, she kept my feet in water the entire time until the end. 45 minutes of water means that the water gets freaking cold before the end. Plus it means you end up with prune feet. Why bother if you aren't going to bother with any callus smoothing? And to think they wanted me to waste more money on a shellac! The experience was so crappy that I decided not to have a manicure. read more

Moving to Iowa City from Chicago, I haven't had the best experiences with salons in the area; I couldn't find the service as I had back home. I Yelp'd Premiere and figured to give it a shot because of the decent reviews. The shop is very clean and organized, although the color/polish selection could be a little larger. Once I stepped in, one of the employees said the wait would be about an hour but I settled since I made the long commute anyways. However, I was seated in 15 minutes. The shop was pretty busy at the time, so they're very good about servicing customers and distributing time evenly. The tech I had was a sweetheart, offered a drink once I was seated and made sure I was satisfied with pretty much everything. Phenomenal mani/pedi! What I loved the most is that they don't rush you to pay upfront before polishing your nails; they even discount 5% to cash-paying customers. I could definitely see myself becoming a regular here; highly recommend this salon! read more

Today was my second visit, since anyone can have a great initial visit, I waited to post a review. They are so friendly and really all about customer service. I went in at 12 on a Sunday and started service right away (yeah, no waiting on a weekend afternoon!). They do really amazing work. They are very clean and in an alright location (bars on each side to spouse-sit if that's needed) and restaurants nearby for a pre or post snack. I am very happy with this place, after searching other nail salons for a place where I didn't feel ridiculed or rushed, or worse, that the state was going to close them down for cleanliness (all things to consider when picking a nail salon). According to other "yelpers" they had some problems in the past, but I haven't experienced anything like that. Maybe those employees are now working at other salons? read more

I've been coming here for years and always have a good experience. I only get the pedicures, I've had all 3, with basic polish. They always do a great job even though my feet are, well, a little terrifying. When I went in this time, I noticed they now have printed out menus for the free drinks and the types of pedicures, as some of the women don't speak a lot of English. Regardless, they always make sure they understand what I'm asking for and make some polite small talk. I have yet to have a bad experience here and am pretty loyal. read more

I recently had a spa pedicure and a deluxe pedicure. They were fine, not great, but at least they weren't horrible like some of the other experiences I've had around the Iowa city area. Some observations: 1. The chairs work fine, though the top massagers didn't reach my shoulders. 2. Both techs I had were lazy massagers. Even though they met the time limit they used too little pressure and focused on the wrong areas. 3. The polish selection is somewhat limited. Check around the room if you don't see the color you want because it could be in use by someone else. 4. The nail hardening station is really nice. Just sit and play on your phone while your toes dry. 5. The magazine selection went back to 2012 and I didn't see any new copies on the coffee table. I am moving so this is my last entry about nail salons in Iowa City. read more

I just went in looking for a pedicure and my experience before even sitting in a chair caused me to walk right back out. First, there was a man behind the front counter who made eye contact with me when I walked in then didn't even greet me. Then another man walked up and greeted me. I told him I was looking for a pedicure and he directed me to sign in at their new computer system and walked away. The sign in process requires you waive liability in the case of burns, infection, injury, etc. and that you will still be required to pay for a botched job. Sorry - not sorry - but heck no! If you mess up and injure me or use improper sterilization procedures you are liable. How about greeting customers with a statement of the training and sanitation procedures you have in place to prevent these things? I am very cautious of nail salons and those things are very important to me. Therefore, greeting me with a statement about how you aren't liable for these things is a sure way to get me to turn right back around and walk out. P.S. I strongly recommend other stay away from places that require such a waiver of liability. I won't be returning. read more

I can get a better PREMIERE treatment and service at da vi nails at Walmart in Coralville. At Premiere Nails NO hot water - ice cold. They ran out of hot water. No refreshments offered wine nor even a dinky bottle of water NO hot stones the leg and foot "MASSAGE" is a freaking joke - it consisted of just RUBBING LOTION ON The Shellac was a freaking joke. I recently went into the nail salon at around 7:10pm (mind you they close at 8pm). I know how annoying it is if people come into a store right before close (I work in retail and understand). However, I would never step foot inside a restaurant, nail salon or store that would close in 20 mins. I just think that is rude. Anyways, stopped in here a little after 7 to get my eyebrows waxed, which at most takes 5 minutes. I let the lady know what I was in for and she proceeded to tell me that everyone was busy and no one would be able to help me for the rest of the night and that I should leave. I was shocked. I understand if every employee is busy, but to tell me to LEAVE and come back a different time is rude. I mean it's an eyebrow wax...it's not like I'm getting my nails done. During my pedicure the corner and part of the root of my toenail was ripped out and jammed back into the footbath. I brought this up to the tech and he did not care. The next day I woke up and my toe was bright red and in extreme pain, it was infected. When calling the salon about this with possible reimbursement for the problem they were rude and said no refunds. I explained the situation and said they put sanitizer which makes the water green, mine was clear. This place has terrible customer service and doesn't sanitize properly. read more

Not impressed with my most recent visit. They were one of my favorites in the Coralville/ Iowa City area. I had to tell the guy doing my nails several times that the dip powder was not completely covered on my nail and he had to smooth the clumped dip powder several times. I also had tips done. They were so incredibly thin that I felt like I could bend them and they would break. Several of them are now broken and I got them done 5 days ago. Second time that they didn't do the color I requested. Bumpy and too thick first time and the second time the edges were not done well and they didn't even remove the paint that got on the skin until I had to point it out. You shouldn't have to point out imperfections but that's what they wanted me to do after two or three point outs I gave up. They also trimmed my nails and didn't get them even. Sadly, I've dropped $170 taking myself and my older daughters there first time and regret having come back the second. read more

I was referred here by my beautician and she was right-- they're great! Compared to the place in the mall (dirty and cramped) and the place in North Liberty (where I feel like I'm a child being scolded, because they yell at you!) Premiere is great. Can't beat the free drinks (Mmmm white wine) and hot towel I got with my spa pedicure. The fella who did my pedi asked what I thought... He gave a super long leg massage... Near the end of August almost every salon in Iowa City was booked due to sorority recruitment approaching. I decided to drive to Coralville, where there'd be less of a wait. I came to Premiere Nails & Spa for a full set of acrylics. They acrylics looked fine, but it was after I had them removed that I discovered almost every single one of my nails had FUNGUS growing underneath... This is 110% the fault of this salon. I have been getting acrylics for years and have never had this problem. "The cause for nail fungus with acrylics is when the nails are inadequately fitted. When the right application method is not followed, a gap between the natural nail bed and acrylic nails may develop. This gap creates an ideal environment for the development of nail fungus." I will never come back to this salon. Highly unimpressed. read more

Went in to get a manicure and pedicure. I do not think I would come back to this place. I find it strange how some reviewers have given it even an ok rating. Pros: 1. The place is almost empty on weekdays, so you can get in and out fast. 2. Massage was ok-ish Cons: 1. Extremely poor color selection for shellac and non-shellac. Not even basic colors available. So you are stuck with whatever you get there. 2. Massage chairs do not work, they are extremely old and you can barely feel something slowly creeping on your back. 3. The service and the manicure/pedicure part itself is so poor. The technique is bad, filing is extremely bad, the cuticles are not dealt with properly, proper cleanse is not done, sloppy way of applying nail paint. My tech left nail paint on surrounding skin at several places, and I had to keep telling her to get it off. 4. My tech did not allow enough time for UV between coats and as a result, about 5 days later, I had my not-so-good mani to begin with, chipping off at several places. I do not know about others, but the salons I have gone to, the shellac mani does not chip, even if you try your hardest to remove it at home. In the end, I felt it was waste of money. Overall, a very bad experience. My nails ended up looking worse than they were, each of them is a different shape. I do not recommend going there at all. read more

This place is horrible, I went in for a fill and it did not look like he knew what he was doing he rushed though putting the powder on each nail. The man that helped me kept on looking at the clock like he had somewhere he had to be or there was a time a time limit. I went to wash my hands and I came back and there was a new person that was going to paint my nails. If you don't have time to do the whole service don't start it. The lady that painted my nail was even worse. Part some of my nails were good the others looked like my little cousins did it. When I left I started to look at them realized that they were not dry and were still still sticky. Not only that but they cut my skin in multiple places. I was so angry I went to another salon in Iowa city to have it redone. They told me that they didn't even put acrylic on my nails. So not only did I pay $30+ for a fill they did not even do it right be aware of this place and avoid it at all cost! read more

A few of the employees cared but when I got there at 6 pm and I wasn't seated until 7:15 pm (after they told me it would be only a 20 minute wait). Unfortunately I got a new guy who didnt care and did a very very bad job--so bad that I had to leave before he finished. The new guy was rude as well and unwilling to improve on his mistakes. I would not recommned going there again unless you find a person who does a good job. So beware that not every one there will care for you and care for doing a good job. Went in today for a gel manicure but the selection was limited, and I could not find a color I liked. I got a regular OPI mani and it was horrible. Not only was the paint job sloppy (paint on my nailbed as well as the tips of my fingers as well as streaks on the edges of my nails) but my nails are in worse shape now than they were before I went in! The filing is inconsistent- some rounded but others are more square. My cuticles are in terrible shape now. I would have stayed and asked them to fix the paint, but I figured I'd just forget it. I'd already waited 20 minutes (and while one customer waiting was offered a drink, and another waiting customer and I strangely were not). At the start of my manicure, the technician asked a woman who I assume was a regular of his who had arrived after me if she wanted to wait for him or go with someone else. She asked how long he would be, and he replied 15 min. I thought it was odd that my manicure would be that quick. He clearly rushed while doing my nails. Will not be going back read more
