Very VERY good ice cream and matcha with incredible pricing. HIGHLY reccomend their Ube/Taro soft serve. HOWEVER, i would not reccommend their taiyakis at all as the batter isnt taiyaki batter and theres very little filling inside. 3/20/21- The matcha desserts here are so fresh and creamy! All toppings paired well with the soft serve and the matcha is high quality. You can also select ube/taro, black sesame, or hojicha flavors. Highly recommend for all soft serve fans near the Troy area. Lots of options to choose from! -Maiko Special (Medium)- Matcha/vanilla mixed soft serve, macaron, homemade mochi balls, matcha cake wedges, red bean, cornflakes, and agar jelly bottom layer. (+) The soft serve was the perfect consistency with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. All ingredients were very fresh, especially the mochi balls. I loved the texture of the delicate, chewy mochi texture and it's a bonus that they're HOMEMADE! The corn flakes added a nice crunch, the matcha cake was soft and spongey, the red bean was smooth, and you get some fairly large chunks of agar jelly at the bottom. You can have matcha powder sprinkled on your dessert and overall, the toppings and soft serve blended beautifully. This dessert was perfect in sweetness too! -Soft Serve Ice Cream Cone- A simple dessert but both the cone and soft serve were well made. The cone was very fresh/crisp and had that fragrant buttery/vanilla aroma. Great ice cream to cone ratio! -Store ambience and experience- The store is very clean and service is extremely friendly! This place has been on my radar for a bit and I finally checked it out. I started with a latte, matcha chocolate cream and then still wasn't completely satisfied so I then ordered a soft serve ice cream, mix of vanilla and matcha which was good too. I have to say their large drink is more like a medium tho. Their prices could be a little but less as I think they are a bit expensive for what you get. The guy behind the counter was pleasant and helpful! It's cute inside too. I'd definitely come back despite the slightly higher prices as the flavors were good (they do not run sweet which is either good or bad depending on your preference), and you can't find matcha just anywhere! I'd probably give them a 4.5, but I'm rounding up due to the nice guy behind the counter. They also have a punch card for frequent visits which is nice! read more

I love this take on soft serve and classic Japanese flavors! I got the Ube and Matcha swirl with a cake chunk on the side. There are a lot of different toppings to choose from and you can really get fancy with it. But I kept it simple this time. They usually have Ube, matcha and vanilla and rotate a season flavor once a month I believe. Black sesame, cookie butter and Sakura are some of the flavors I've seen since going there. Service is really great and they usually make the taiyaki (a waffle like fish shaped treat) fresh if you order it. I didn't get one this time but I usually get one and have it filled with Nutella. The decore is simple and cute inside. There a chalkboard in the back that's filled with customer doodles. It's usually full whenever I go. Pretty clean and lots of seating available. If you love all things matcha, you will DEFINITELY love this place! I am an absolute matcha enthusiast and the quality here is so superb. You can get matcha in every possible way you might crave! For me, I got a matcha tea with a whole thing of matcha soft serve sitting inside as well and it was just heaven! I had such a tough time deciding on what to even get from their menu because there are SO many things I wanted to try here. You best know I will be coming back soon because the matcha flavors across the board in what I ordered were so strong and so GOOD. Next time, I'll definitely stop by to actually eat inside, because there are a lot of sit-down, eat-immediately type of matcha dishes here that look super interesting. Because the time I went, I was just trying to pick something up, I couldn't get too crazy and fun with my ordering. I highly recommend in general that when you come here, you dine in. I know this is a chain, but here in the greater DET area, we don't get many of the typical Asian amenities (it's changing for sure!). My personal favorite is their matcha ice cream on a chocolate cone (there are different types of cone you can get here!!) Really fun place! This cafe was on my summer food quest list and I saw a lot of hubbub on yelp, but then I started to see a bunch of videos and pictures surface on YouTube and Instagram from the West Coast. That's when I realized this was not a stand alone shop in Michigan. Interesting fact, this is a franchise from Hawaii. They source their matcha from Japan to get that authentic earthy flavor. Plus, according to the employees, this is the only location in the Midwest. So, I am happy to see such a unique find here in our area. We tried a few different ice creams. I had the Maiko special with ube taro ice cream and match ice cream. I also added the taiyaki fish cone. I love the smooth ube ice cream and the earthy matcha flavor. The mochi was nice and chewy. The macaron was absolutely delicious. I love the beans and the crunch of the corn flakes. The cake pieces were wonderful. All around a good introductory order to start with if you visit. One child got the vanilla/ matcha twist with cake, mochi, and a vanilla waffle cone. The other got an ube/ sea cream combo with cake and a taiyaki. They both loved it. The kids enjoyed looking at the walls covered with customer animation. And one of them loves the tikis placed around the room. Personally I would like to come back and try some of the drinks or other combinations. I liked their topping choices. And there were so many drink combinations, I am not even sure what to get next, but we hope to be back soon. read more

It's in the same shopping plaza as Hanmi market. We got to sample the 4 different samples of their ice creams: vanilla, matcha, sea salt and ube (Taro). I ordered a medium cup of ube and vanilla and a medium cup of ube and matcha in a cup with gold leaf, mochi balls and the Japanese chestnut. My Ube dollop left a hollow hole when it was served into my cup. :( The gold looks luxe but it's not the creamiest of ice creams. Gold leaf of course has no flavor at all. The chestnut is soft and has a slight nuttiness left to it, seems it's been pickled and is on the soft side. The mochi is hard and chewy, it's not pleasant at all. It's a fun concept. The service was good. The ice creams are okay, not a richness or creaminess I like in my ice cream. $16.43 for our two cups. read more

Place: This place is near my favorite local Korean mart and I never knew that this place opened up nearby. I am really glad that my friend recommended this to me. This place is pretty spacious and there is a lot of covid precautions. :) Service: The service was amazing! During the time I was there there was a buy one get one deal which is whoa amazing since the prices are a little higher. Food/price: There are so much options and boujee toppings you can get. There is the one where you can get gold on top which is pretty cool. I got the takoyaki cone with green tea matcha on top. It is usually $8! Audience: Great for friends and family! I have been seeing this place all over Instagram this week, so I had to stop by. I was in the area anyways because I needed to take my car to Belle Tire. They just opened last Sunday and if you go this week you can take advantage of the 30% off discount. I really wanted one of the ice cream cones, but I didn't want to dine in because of coronavirus, so I ended up getting two drinks to go. One of them was a matcha chocolate drink and was delicious. I forget the name of the other one but the counter person told me it was basically matcha with sugar, and to me it tasted like straight up matcha, so I wasn't as big of a fan of that drink. The place itself was small but cute and the menu was gigantic. I highly recommend asking the counter people for some recommendations. Everything is a little expensive, drinks were around $6 each and the ice cream with no embellishments is $4, but if you are a matcha fan you will enjoy this place. (It's also very Instagrammable!) I will probably be back at some point to try more of the menu, I do want to try the ice cream as well. read more

Since my first review, I've come back here often. I've tried just about everything on the menu but my go to is the matcha ice cream. Their matcha ice cream is sweet but not overly sweet and the earthy flavors of matcha shine through. The texture of the ice cream is creamy and perfect, what you'd hope for in a soft serve. The have a new ice cream flavor... Lychee! Lychee has always given me a rose water taste, and their ice cream tastes just like it. Love that you can customize your ice cream with various toppings: boba, matcha cake, matcha sticks, various syrups, mocha, gold foil, etc. As I said above, I frequent here once(ish) a week and have introduced friends/family here and they all love it! When I see ube (taro) anything, as a Filipino I feel like it's my duty to support whatever foodie trend has been infused by it. From cronuts, doughssants, pancakes, regular cake, pandesal (Filipino rolls), bubble tea, you name it and it's been Ube'd all over the US and the World. Naturally, I had to try their ube soft serve in one of their homemade cones. For me, the ube flavor did not pop as much as I wanted it to and it's consistency wasn't nearly as creamy as some of my favorite soft serves in Michigan. Not one of my favorite ube iterations to date. Was it tasty? Yes. Will I crave it in months ahead? No. And that's one of my biggest criteria in whether I tell people about a place or not, to be completely honest. My brother, who copped the matcha soft serve, felt exactly the same way about his cone. I still give it 4-stars because of their friendly customer service, the variety of treats on their menu, and their matcha specialty gives them a very unique place in the local food scene. Maybe if I add their gold leaf add-on ($3.50) it'll make it taste even better :) Definitely a must-add for IG for sure! read more

Family vacation 2021...bringing the California variant of COVID-19 to your city. After leaving Southern California on our road, we were missing our milk teas. So, when we found Matcha Cafe Maiko on Yelp, we knew we had to stop and and get some matcha green tea. Matcha Cafe Maiko did not disappoint. The matcha milk teas that we ordered were just as good as the ones we usually get in California. It was almost like home away from home for us. If it wasn't almost time for dinner, we probably would've tried their ice cream as well. Service was great. Their cashier was nice and helpful. Jimmy the owner also came out and met with us and gave us some great ideas for places to visit during our short stay in the Detroit area. Matcha Cafe Maiko is a hidden gem for teas and ice cream in Troy. It's a great place! I'm kidding. I tested negative for the "rona" prior to leaving California. read more
