I decided to pick up a slice on the boardwalk. This is by far the worst pizza I have ever been served at an establishment. The crust is this thin cardboard with no flavor or texture other then dry. The sauce tasted like Ragu and there was little to no cheese. I'm a bit of a pizza snob, but this pizza made papa johns taste like heaven, and their pizza is garbage. We were Mac n Manco's fans for many, many years. after many years we were tired of waiting in a long line for pizza! We heard that Prep's had a makeover and tried it out. The pizza was better than "manco and manco's" as it is now called. We had a nice alternative for pizza and the service was great and the place was clean. Love the new management. If I had to sum my review in a word, it would be Almost. I decided to try Preps on my most recent trip to Ocean City, after reading the reviews on Yelp, and this is probably the first time Yelp let me down. My family is local (not me) and they have always done Mack and Manco, so it risked it and gave it a try. It really tasted to me like they were trying to copy Mack and Manco, like one of those cookbooks that let you make famous restaurant dishes at home, but they are never quite right. The crust was thin and crispy in perfect Jersey shore style. It was very tasty with the cheese and sauce on it, but once you get to just crust, it is bland. Maybe it needs salt, maybe some other seasoning, but it was bland. The sauce was vibrant and sweet; very well done. The cheese was OK, but it lacked a certain sharpness that would make it stand out. Yesterday was my first and last time I will ever visit Preps. I ordered 2 slices and I noticed a very large ant going across the pizza. I quietly let the girl behind the counter know. She killed it on the pizza tray and smeared it and knocked it on the floor. She could have thrown the slices away that the ant ran across and wash the pizza tray that she smeared it across. That, I am certain, is a product of my wife's insistence. :) We somehow ended up with a gift certificate to Prep's from a fundraiser, I believe. I moved to Phoenix AZ in 2013 and this was my first time back since moving. I spent an awesome week in Ocean City. As with every prior visit to OC when I lived in NJ, I had to get some boardwalk pizza. In keeping with tradition and nostalgia, I got some Manco's. Sadly, I believe I will have to end that tradition. The pizza was "meh". Later in the week, I found myself craving pizza again, probably because I wasn't satisfied by Manco's. So I hopped on Yelp, my reliable food counselor, and searched "pizza" nearby. First of all, it was after 9 when I did this and most places were closed - kinda surprising in a tourist town with people still packed on boardwalk walking around building up an appetite. I found Preps, solid 4-star review and open late. I drove down from 55th Street, parked and went up to the boardwalk to fill my pizza craving. Preps is just full of energy - the orange color, smiling employees and lots of customers. (the competition should take notes losing out on those later night dollars.) I was greeted by a woman, wish I caught her name to give proper shout-out, but she was really nice, smile on her face and in her voice. I think I heard an accent in her voice, maybe north Jersey or New England. I came seeking pizza, which I got a slice of pepperoni and 2 slices of white, but once I saw calzone on the menu I wanted one of those too. It did not disappoint. The pizza was delicious as well. Again, regret I didn't snap some pics at the time. But trust me, I don't post a lot of reviews, but Preps warranted one. Great service and great pizza (and calzone). I plan to be back in OC each year and now I have a new boardwalk pizza destination. If the owners read this, might I offer one suggestion for the menu - panzerottis. If you google, the spelling varies. They are basically mini calzones but deep fried. When done right, they are delicious, but no one makes them it seems. Really good thin crust foldable pizza. Slice and pies. The prices are high but similar to everything else around. We had the sampler, half white and half Sicilian. All in all a four star experience. Be prepared to pay cash for pizza in OCNJ. A lot of places will deliver for free though. read more

Today we celebrated my husband's 40 birthday by playing at the arcade and sharing pizza/ice cream with 16 of our dearest friends. Sandy, her daughter, and the rest of the Preps Pizzeria team exceeded our expectations. The restaurant is open, bright, clean, and comfortable. The service was absolutely wonderful with the ladies seeing to every guests needs with great hospitality. We ordered 4 different pizzas - each were delicious and all our discerning and wide-age-ranging guests loved it. Preps ice cream shop had a great variety of options and the scoops were served up in a friendly and quick manner. Sandy allowed us to set up some decorations and helped add to the "party" feeling by stopping by often with jokes, offers to bring and/or clear things, and big smiles. She and her whole team were absolutely gracious making us all feel like we were part of the family and at home. When I stayed behind to say ANOTHER thank you, Sandy said she just wanted to give us a special experience and to make us happy. She, and everyone at Preps, did exactly that. The pepperoni bread is absolutely delicious, and is our first and last dinner (and sometimes in between) after we were fortunate enough to discover Prep's while strolling the Boardwalk in OC/NJ. This is our favorite pizza in OCNJ. It's also the only pizza my oldest daughter will eat without a complaint. We're a family of 6 and get a large pie with 2 extra slices. Even that probably isn't enough. The lines are almost non-existant because folks are probably stuck in the M&M's routine. The pizza isn't that noticeably different. They have coloring pages and crayons for the kids while they wait every now and then you can catch the Prep's gator outside. Not only is Prep's cheaper than Manco's, the pizza tastes way better! The staff has always been friendly. There are many great coupons out there. The restaurants are clean, bright, and well decorated. The dairy bar serves a good variety of tasty treats. Our kids insisted we try this place. They went on about it, so we gave in. We came to the boardwalk this year, ranking pizza as follows: 1) Big Slice, 2) Manco, 3) Piccini's. The pizza was ok. I ordered a broccoli ricotta white pizza, and the top of the pizza was great, but the crust on the bottom and the edge were very hard. I called to place an order and asked how long it would be. She said "15-20 minutes". I got my pizza 40 minutes after I placed the order. The employee wasn't that friendly, and was very short with me. At one time they were a better version of Manco's but then suddenly mysterously stopped using their expensive sharp flavorful cheese and opted for a more WASPY bland cheese and sauce reminiscent of Ellios.. So service is everything right???? With that in mind, id like to address the fact that while trying to munch, enjoy my waffle eating euphoria, and absorb the boardwalk experience to its finest. I was rudely interrupted my the disgraceful service by the uneducated and ratty teens who do not understand the concept that when you run out of waffle batter you must simply get your ass up and make it yourself. Instead of comprehending this concept, the ratty teens disturbed my euphoria a second time. So with all of this in mind which matters the most?. The quality of food or the quality of a good atmosphere in which to lower my anxiety and those who join with anxiety issues (my fellow friends) who use waffles and ice cream to escape from the harsh reality of their world. I have been going to preps for years. I should say yesterday will be my last time. Went in with a party of 6 with 2 kids in group. The young sever was nice and friendly she came in beginning and end. The old lady was unfriendly and like we were a bother. Didn't give enough plates for everyone got attitude asking for more. Go forbid you ask you plastic utensils. By far the worst restaurant on this boardwalk. Waiting thirty minutes just to get WATER. The waitress told my fiancée that the calzone had no ricotta, and when it finally arrives after an hour and a half (the restaurant is nearly empty) it is FULL of ricotta. She says she mistook it for a Stromboli and takes it back. After another fifteen minutes we finally get our TWO SLICES of pizza and they are not even hot.
