Dr. Trieu and his staff are truly remarkable. I loved my original dentist, however my concern was with my braces relapse and he didn't offer any orthodontic work. I only have heard wonderful things about Dr. Trieu from my peers, so I decided to do a consultation with him. Despite COVID, they were able to see me within the week. That was something I wasn't used to, as my previous dentist would be booked for months--even to reschedule a cleaning. Dr. Trieu is amazing! I saw Dr. Trieu back when I was 12 years old for a front tooth root canal after my dog headbutted me in the chin. I used to hate the dentist. They were always giving me fillings instead of teaching me how to prevent them. Dr. Trieu was the most patient with me and not only explained each step of the process but also gave context to why and how things happened. Fast forward 16 years later, I am now 28 and moved away from Tustin but was in need of a face lift on my old root canal tooth as it was starting to look discolored. I saw multiple dentist, all which told me they didn't know what would work (which didn't give me confidence for them drilling on my front tooth). I decided to call my old friend, Dr. Trieu. I realize that reviews for medical doctors are highly subjective and anecdotal, but I am here to truly make an objective case for Dr. Trieu (owner and sole practitioner). Dr. Trieu has told me that he still has patients who will fly in from out of state to see him, and I 100% believe this. I have only been with Dr. Trieu for a year and I am already dreading the day that either I have to move, or he someday retires. I currently drive almost an hour to get to Dr. Trieu, and I will happily continue to make the drive for as long as he has a practice. So why go to Dr. Trieu? The Man. Loves. Teeth. If there was ever an eccentric about teeth, Dr. Trieu is it. He will absolutely talk your ear off about how to take care of your teeth. I believe my onboarding visit took 2-3 hours! Of course much of this time was getting photos and x-rays, but a LOT of the time was 1-on-1 with Dr. Trieu while he carefully explains exactly what Preservation Dentistry is about. He personally performs the first cleaning for new patients, and takes the time to get to know you, and pours over your dental images to get to know your story intimately. And yes, HE TALKS A LOT, and often repeats himself. At first I found this quirk to be a bit jarring; I didn't come to my first appointment prepared for the onslaught of dental details. I've been used to all my previous dentists who just gave me a check up, and briefly recommended some oral care routines. But now that I have had some time to digest my first interaction with Dr. Trieu, I have come to the realization that he is exactly the kind of person that you want as your dentist. I love that dentistry is his obsession and his passion. He cares so intensely about both the quality of his work and the health/results of his patients. He is constantly working to give you tips to "train you to not need [him]," as he puts it. He is always teaching you how to hold your dentist to the highest standard. His philosophy is about preserving as much of your natural teeth as possible. He desperately wants to avoid any costly procedures that result in drilling holes in your teeth. He takes the time to work very slowly and talks you through what he is doing so that you are very comfortable. He is kind, patient, professional, and takes time to explain why certain things need to be done (or more importantly, why certain things *don't* need to be done). He has a very specific philosophy and set of values that he adheres to that is refreshing. He takes a long term view when it comes to your dental health, and doesn't look for quick fix solutions. At this point, it was apparent that this person was passionate about what he does and his sole concern wasn't just to attend to the mouth sitting in front of him, but the person himself. He took great pride in educating me throughout the entire process and even went over my medical section and taught me stuff that my primary care physician never did! He then did something that truly frightened me at first - he handed me a small mirror to so that I can look at the tiny-germlin-jousting affair. I contemplated not looking at first, but was intrigued, so I looked. It was beautiful. Not my teeth, but his gentle and patient approach that was truly on it's own stratosphere compared to every other dentist I've ever been to. I've been coming to this dentist for years mostly for cleaning and minor dental work. Dr. Trieu has always been very patient and takes his time to explain exactly what he's doing along with with the philosophies behind his treatments and procedures. This past week, I needed some major work done and Dr. Trieu and his staff were amazing at providing the treatment that I needed! As always, he took his time to explain in detail what he would need to do and why. During the actual procedure, Dr. Trieu and his assistant Sal were meticulous, patient and moved with grace like teeth ninjas. I love how Dr. Trieu makes it a point to make his procedures as painless and as comfortable as possible. For instance, he took his time giving me the anesthesia in multiple stages to completely eliminate the pain usually involved in getting a numbing shot. I wish I knew about Dr. Trieu years ago! I've never looked forward to seeing my dentist before in my life but I look forward to seeing Dr. Trieu because I always leave in a better place than when I came in. I've gone to Dr. Trieu for the past 7 yrs until I moved from CA to AZ. Simply put, Dr. Trieu and his team (Ana and Sal) are absolutely top notch. His primary focus is on education and helping you maintain and keep your own teeth. If it were up to him, the only work he would prefer to do is the 6 month check up and cleaning. But, unfortunately, I hadn't gone to the dentist for a long time before I started to go to Dr. Trieu so I had a number of issues to deal with. Dr. Trieu always gives a very thorough consult and lays out all of your options. He helps you maximize your dental benefits by figuring out what's most needed and what work can be deferred for next yr or next several years when your dental benefits renew. It's not black and white either. He tells you and shows you what's going on with your teeth and gums, what can be treated with basic cleaning and proper teeth care, and what requires actual dental work. He does not push any decision on you as he wants you to make your own educated decisions. Ultimately, I had a crown replacement, abfraction repairs, one implant, and had wisdom teeth pulled by Dr. Trieu in addition to cleaning... lots and lots of cleaning, which BTW, Dr. Trieu always does himself. Dr. Trieu's work is impeccable. He does not rush and works to ensure that everything is done to perfection. After moving to AZ, I went to a new dentist. He and his hygenist complimented the work Dr. Trieu did saying the work was "beautiful." I felt the same way as I've never had any issues w/ any of the work Dr. Trieu did for me. Best thing is, my new dentist said my teeth and gums were in excellent shape. No gum disease at all, no bleeding, no need for any dental work. This is due primarily because of Dr. Trieu's advice which I followed religiously for the past 7 yrs. Dr. Trieu may not be the cheapest dentist, but the quality of his work, his attention to detail, and the friendliness and caring of his staff are well worth it. This isn't getting a car fixed. This is your only set of teeth so I prefer to go with someone who knows what they're doing rather than the cheapest assembly line dental clinic. My wife, daughter and I have been going to Dr. Trieu for over 10 years now. Initially we went because of a referral to help with my wife's TMJ - which she had lived with for her entire life up to that point. She didn't really expect much of a result but her TMJ had gotten so bad by then she was desperate for any sort of relief. We were referred to Dr. Trieu because he enjoyed challenges and used technology and new procedures in an innovative fashion (especially 10 years ago). Much to my wife's surprise the treatment over 6 months reaped HUGE benefits. I don't recall exactly the difference in her ability to open her mouth, but it meant the difference between a life of daily pain to one of reasonable normalcy. I can't stress enough how much of a life changer this was for her. After her great experience with him and seeing him for about a year, I started going to his office as well. We immediately hit it off - he believes in informing his patients as much as possible in regards to pro's and con's of each type of treatment and it is truly a collaborative experience. He doesn't mind explaining everything he is doing and why he feels one particular path is better than another. As many other yelpers have noted - he takes a very conservative approach to drilling - choosing to do the least amount possible (also generally a lower cost for the consumer) to get the desired result - believing that a minimalist approach is better in the long run for dental health. Don't get me wrong though - he has all the skills required to perform any dentistry - I have been going to him for a little over 10 years now and I used him for orthodontics for myself as well as regular dentistry cleanings/work. I also now take my daughter to him - she is 8 now, and has been going to him since she was 4. He is great with her and takes the time to ensure that the "experience" is a positive one from the beginning - not wanting to scare her or make it a bad experience as a child. He truly cares about his patients and always approaches his treatment from the aspect of "if this were my mouth, what would I want done". I also wanted to drop a note about his office staff - specifically the office manager - Marycel. She has been there the entire time as well and she is always in a incredibly happy and positive mood and completely customer service focused. She will bend over backward for you and even fights for you with the insurance company if they are being stubbon (as they sometimes are). If you've ever been to a regular dentist office, you'll notice that it's always super busy with lots of patients waiting. That would be a good sign of business....if this was a restaurant! However, this is a dental office. I've never seen more than 1 other patient ahead of me even though there are multiple patient chairs available. While others may see this as a red flag, I see this as a great sign of business, planning and the ethics of Dr. Trieu. He plans his appointments so that they do not overlap. This ensures that you are receiving the best possible care while his focus is on you and not worrying about another patient. I've had a lot done at this office and I've never felt more comfortable telling other people about it. My friends thinks it's funny that my dentist texts me to make sure I'm doing ok. He won't drill or grind or pull or do a crown just for the sake of making money. He educates you about what needs to be done and the process he will use to go about it. Most people hate going to the dentist. One trip here and you will never be in fear again. The numbing process is done with such care that you don't even feel it. I have dental insurance through work but Dr Trieu is not in my network and would rather pay to see him then go to any other dentist to have work done because I know it will be done right and with care. Preservation Dentistry worked with my limited schedule on a pretty major dental predicament (I had to get a re-root-canal due to a poor job I had done a few years ago somewhere else. I'm from San Francisco and I drive 6+ hours every 6 months to see Dr. Trieu. I was referred to him from a friend back in 2005 and have been seeing him ever since. I'm sure there are great dentists out there in the bay area, but why search when you've already got a fabulous dentist? I've also had VERY bad experiences with previous dentists before meeting Dr. Trieu and Dr. Trieu is still fixing the horrible things the previous dentists did to me. Dr. Trieu is very knowledgeable, up-to-date with the best procedures and equipment, detail oriented, gentle, honest, caring, and most importantly OCD when it comes to teeth. He doesn't settle for a sloppy job filling cavities. He makes sure he does everything perfectly and treats each patient as if they are the only patient he has. He is never rushing from room to room quickly doing a job. He takes the time to make sure the job is done right. He doesn't try to suggest procedures just to make money. He cares about what is best for you and your teeth long term and that is a dentist that is very hard to come by. Besides Dr. Trieu being an amazing dentist, his staff is also top notch. The office is beautiful and the equipment is state of the art!
