I came in for the first time from out of town (on vacation) and was able to get in and taken care of. Preservation Dentistry worked with my limited schedule on a pretty major dental predicament (I had to get a re-root-canal due to a poor job I had done a few years ago somewhere else. The infection that was growing started giving me unbearable pain all the sudden.) The office is super clean and friendly. It feels like everybody is really taking their time with you, not just trying to rush you in and out. Put me right at ease. Dr. Trieu is just a very caring dentist. I just had another bad experience with my old dentist and my boyfriend told me about how great his dentist (Dr.Trieu) is, so I decided to give him a try. I called and made an appointment. From the second I walked in, until the moment I walked out I had the best experience. Elsy the receptionist greeted me with a warm smile and great attitude. Before Dr. Trieu even tried to sit me down in his dentist chair he first sat me down in his office to see what my concerns are, what are my goals to when it comes to my teeth, he tried to get to know me, and he told me about himself and what his goal was with me and all his patients. Which is to have us go to him the least amount as possible. He honestly is 100% honest and does not try to rob you by doing work that is unnecessary. I've avoided going to the dentist for years for various reasons, but a few months ago I decided to bite the bullet and go to Dr. Trieu after reading these yelp reviews, and I am so so glad that I did! I actually just created a yelp account just to leave a review for him. I was really hesitant to book my appointment because I have a pretty big phobia, and these reviews seemed a bit too good to be true, but everything people say here is legit -- Dr. Trieu is incredibly talented and a wonderful dentist, and all his staff are amazing too. Before I started going here, I read a few reviews saying they travel long distances to see him, and it didn't make sense to me at the time why someone would want to fly in from out of town or drive a 100 miles to come see a dentist, but now that I've worked with Dr. Trieu, I completely understand and would want to try doing the same if I ever moved. If you are in the greater LA/OC area with some distance from Irvine and wondering whether or not the drive is worth it -- it really is! It's going to be a sad day for all his patients when he retires. He is easily the *best* health care provider of any kind I've had, and I feel really grateful to have found him. Dr. Trieu is the kind of dentist you would trust with your family's care, and I am personally planning to bring my parents in to see him as well. I put off dental care for a looong time, and because of some other bad habits I've practiced for years, I have a million cavities.. Review has been updated to address his response. I made the mistake of following a referral for this dentist without doing proper research. Here are red flags with this dentist: - He'll constantly tell you how great he is. Should've followed my instinct to get up and leave. You'll find out later that it's bait and switch for below average at best services and results. - Cuts corner on safety such as not using a dental dam for procedures that require it to prevent hazardous materials from going down your throat and into your system. He claims Isolite is a better alternative but the industry says otherwise per below: http://www.thewellnessdentist.net/safe-mercury-removal-dentist-guide/ "Some dentists will use other devices instead of a dental dam: Isolite and Clean-Up are two of these devices. ... Dentists who use these devices as standard protocol place their own convenience ahead of your safety." - Milking you for your money by offering additional products or services then when you don't show an interest he'll quickly knock half off. - Does not inform you of the drawbacks to the procedures such as extreme sensitivity that doesn't go away. - Does a below average job at best. Some of the enhancement work performed do not even look complete but he claims "it's good enough". Another USC dentist was in awe at how poor the enhancement was done that introduced complications. - It didn't help that he stacked appointments and rushed the work to maximize his profit instead of taking time to do quality work. I remember sitting in the chair during my procedure and he kept interrupting to talk to and service others. - The more extreme enhancement procedures will have complications down the road that will put your health at risk along with additional expenses then on top of that he wants to double charge you for the same work that should've been done right the first time. Lifetime warranty is pointless if you're going to double charge to redo it properly. - When complications arise down the road due to substandard work he'll make up silly excuses to avoid responsibility and pass you off to another dentist. The "six month requirement" in his response was never ever discussed when he took thousands of dollars from me. - Unfortunately, this dentist is probably more interested in you financing his Lamborghini than doing quality work and your health per a doctor I know. He puts on a pretty convincing act though when he takes your money. As far as his car analogy, he focuses on the expensive enhancement procedures and not the general dentistry like cleaning where it isn't as profitable. He's the equivalent of an auto body shop. As a customer you expect body work to be done right the first time especially when charged a high premium. Only shady places do shoddy body work then try to invalidate the warranty with some petty excuse that you didn't take your car back to the body shop for oil change. My advise is to leave your teeth alone. It might not look pretty but you won't risk introducing complications. Or, find an honest and competent enhancement specialist. You have one shot at getting your teeth enhanced right otherwise you risk tooth loss that results in expensive implants but I'm sure he would like that. It's another red flag that he had no review prior to mine but a bunch of fake ones that popped up in response probably by him, those he provide free services to to advertise, friends or family. read more

My family and I found Dr. Trieu through yelp. I walked into this dentist office just sobbing because my TMJ got so bad. I don't hear of many people having jaw problems and I just felt like there was nothing anybody could do. Within just a few seconds of meeting him and his friendly staff I immediately felt reassured that there was a solution and he would do anything and everything he can to help me. He's someone that really does care! He doesn't waste any time trying to solve the problem. Within just a couple of weeks he had examined me, took a cast of my mouth and made me a mouth piece to help relax my jaw muscles. And then just a few months later when my jaw had much improved made me one that was more discrete so it would make me feel less self conscious about wearing it. He also took care of a couple other issues I had with my teeth and instead of giving me an expensive root canal he was able to save my natural tooth. If it's not too late he will ALWAYS try and save the natural teeth because he does not like doing the expensive, painful drilling most dentists do. In other words he's not a lazy dentist that will drill you and send you away until you're forced to come back a couple months later. He will fix the problem so you don't have to come back again for the same reason. I also really appreciate the fact that he doesn't take on more than 1 patient at a time. It's never a crowded waiting room. He likes to be fully focused and give all his attention to just one patient. My journey with Dr. T is not over, but I've come such a long way in 7 months. From first walking into his office crying hysterically because my jaw just felt crooked, and deformed. I could barely open my mouth and everything was just so uncomfortable. I now have many functions of a normal jaw again which i thought it would be impossible to get back. He has guided me all along the way and explains everything in great detail. He and his staff, Marycel and Ana are all so friendly and gentle. They really care and make sure you are comfortable and in no pain. He's such a great dentist, but more than that he's a great person who has so much passion for his work and taking care of the people that come to him for help. This review is long over due for Dr. Trieu and his staff. I have been going to Preservation Dentistry for about 4 years now. I, like most people am skeptical of dentists and the promises they make you. Anytime the dentist seems to good to be true, it usually is. First I'll start by saying that Dr. Trieu genuinely cares about his practice and his patients. I've heard him say time and time again that his goal as a dentist is to help you have to make less visits to the dentist. He works hard to ensure every visit and procedure is as comfortable as possible and as least invasive as possible. My back story with Dr. Trieu is that I've had serious dental needs for the last 10 years and the biggest item on that list was my front tooth that had been knocked out 10 years prior. I have heard many horror stories from people having implants from bad procedures to crazy expensive bills. The problem with my implant is that there had not been a tooth there for several years, causing my bone and gum to vanish. Long story short, this was pretty intense especially it being the very front tooth. Dr. Trieu did the procedure and had me good to go before I even knew what had happened. I'm almost a year out from the procedure and everything is healing well, the bone graft was successful and we are still working on refining the porcelain front tooth as he is very much so a perfectionist. The rest of my dental work is slowly getting done but some of the work I was told by other dentists I would have to get teeth pulled or capped, Dr. Trieu has been able to preserve as much of the natural teeth as possible. To keep the review on the shorter side I will spare the other stories of just how good he is, but trust me there is more. The name of their practice was chosen wisely as they really do work to preserve your natural smile. I have referred everyone I meet with dental needs to Dr. Trieu even people that live out of state. Dr. Trieu talks being proactive but in my case, he was NOT. In the past I have been through intense orthodontist treatments to fix my biting. However, nothing totally fixed it, but it works with a little adjustment time after time. There is proof that I do not crunch or grind a lot other than what you do when you eat. Recently, Dr. Trieu said one tooth needs fixing because of stress on it. To prevent it to happen again, he suggested to wear a tray during the night. I understand fixing of damage but how is the tray during the night is gonna fix my biting??? Recently, I decided it was time to remove and replace some old fillings that were put in approximately 25yrs ago. I was told by another Dentist that because the fillings encompassed majority of the molar, that the tooth couldn't be saved, and, that I would need a root canal and an implant. Dr. Trieu's evaluation revealed the exact opposite. He saved my tooth! I did not need a root canal nor an implant. He removed the old filling and managed to save the tooth despite several fractures in both of my molars. Most impressive was that I did not feel any pain nor discomfort during or after the procedure. Dr. Trieu is truly amazing! He loves dentistry and is fantastic at it. I was told by 2 orthodontist that my jaw would have to be broken to have straight teeth. Dr. Trieu Had my teeth straitened in about one year, virtually painless and I got to keep my jaw in tact! He is also treating abnormal tooth wear due to acid reflux and is bringing my gums and teeth to the healthiest place they have been in years.
