Presidio Hills is a small, 18-hole pitch and putt course made up entirely of par 3s. It's very walkable, but there's little shade so bring a hat and sunscreen. The staff was friendly, it wasn't crowded on a Sunday, and green fees were affordable. They also validate parking for the lot next to the pro shop. Unfortunately, course conditions were very poor. The greens and fairways were patchy and not well maintained, which took away from the experience. A fun concept, but it needs some serious upkeep. read more

Last time I was here was over about 10 years ago and it was a lovely well kept par 3 course that was great for a family day of golf. Went back today and unfortunately it's gone down hill. This tiny little hidden gem is super fun for a quick, casual round! All par-3 holes, you definitely don't need to bring a whole bag of clubs. We went on a rainy day and it was empty and we had a blast. AND my boyfriend reported that his short game/chipping was on point in his next regular round following playing here, so I'd say he got something out of it! What a shame this place is. I know it has a lot of history, and it does have tremendous potential if someone would put even half an ounce of effort into maintaining it. Pros - nice little layout, conveniently located in Old Town - a true pitch and putt. 18 holes total and usually you can just walk right on, no wait. Cons - Horrendous shape - overgrown grass / straw everywhere that irritates your feet and ankles due to the prickly patches. The "greens" are like someone's back yard that is occasionally mowed. No need to use a real putter here. The worst parts - the ball cleaners are completely COVERED in bird poop. Obviously have not been cleaned in months if not longer. We eventually had to stop playing after hole 8 because of the millions of FIRE ANTS that are all over the course. They started crawling all over my son and that was it. The ant hills everywhere are only a small indication of the total infestation of fire ants that has overtaken that place. Visitors beware. read more

What an fun treat to find this course. This is not for serious golfers, but a fun way to drink a few beers and swing away. I think the actual roughness adds to the charm. I watched to online putts fly in the air. The cats roaming the grounds are part of the charm and the overall history is fun to soak in. Everything is foot long patchy rough including the greens. It's impossible to putt and you will lose balls despite the holes being only 50yds long. I tried to play here in March 2024, but the course was sooo bad, we quit after 9 holes. My group all agreed this is the worse golf course we have ever played on. Anyone who gives this golf course anything other than 1 star has never played golf or is drunk! If you crossed a farm pasture and a golf course, this is what it would look like. If you crossed a shit hole and a golf hole, this is that it would look like. If Mad Max played golf, he would play here. If the Federal Government designed a golf course, it would cost $200,000,000.00 and still look like this. The owner has to be rich because he is not spending a dime on maintenance. The greens looked like the fringe/rough on most courses. The fairways are nothing but tall grass and holes to twist your ankles in. All of the ball washers are permanently sealed. I honestly thought I was on that TV show "Punked." I kept looking around for the camera crew. The guy who answers the phone just says "what." I had to ask if this was the golf course. That should have been my first clue. It's really a shame because this place is next to Old Town San Diego area. It would be fun to have a couple of margaritas and then play a few holes. Hopefully the owner reads this and decides to hire a professional grounds keeper and make this a quality course. TERRIBLE & RUDE I came here to play here yesterday January 3rd with my uncle and girlfriend and we paid to play til 4pm... the guy that was working removes last flag hole right when we were about to T off on hole 18. The time was only 3:30pm. I asked him why he remove flag "we close at 4:10pm" A group of ladies behind us complained too and had to golf the last hole without a flag. We called ahead to try and schedule a T time. The guy let us know they don't do that here and to just show up. We got off work early and drove 30 mins to get here. Online it says it's open until 6, but we got here at 430 and the employee stopped us in the parking lot and told us they decided to close early and he was already leaving work and we couldn't golf. Also, management needs to fix all the holes made by critters/gophers etc. the holes are so big and throughout the course, your balls get lost in there and cannot retrieve. Presidio Hills Golf Course is an eyesore for such an area like Old Town, which is a huge draw for tourists in San Diego. The course is a fairly barren course without many hazards or terrain changes. Essentially, it is a fairly flat and unimaginative course that is about 70% covered with dead brown grass in the summer months. The landscaping and greens maintenance here is atrocious. Our hero was appalled to find naked dirt fill, weeds, and poorly repaired holes on the greens. The rough is no joke on this course either because it gives "rough" a new name. By the end of 18 holes, our hero was tired of the repetitive layout of the holes (that are all pretty much 50-70 yards) and vowed never to return again. PROS: - $10 for 18 holes of par 3 golf is pretty damn cheap. - Very friendly course for beginners as it's not crowded at all. CONS: - Essentially the most poorly landscaped course in San Diego. - No sand bunkers, water, or any other sort of creative hazards on the course. - Ball washers and benches can only be found 25-30% of the time on each hole. read more

What happened to this course? Why is it being ignored and left to die? The course is expensive $45 pp and no one is taking care of it. Divets are everywhere, dry patches, there was a water hose running through Hole 10 that you had to move over to hit off to the next hole. This used to be my favorite little course, being a par three and a great place to work on your chip shot but now, it's only a memory and won't be a place for me anymore. It's important to know that this is not a real golf course. It's a pitch and putt that is more like a mini golf course that you can use your irons on. If you've ever been to a real course then Presidio is absolutely going to pale in comparison to it, but if you're a beginner than you can't beat the price of $10 for 18 holes. There isn't a hole longer than 90 yards and the greens definitely need to be restored. I enjoy the course but the man running the clubhouse made us feel that our patronage was a nuisance. They desperately need to get someone new to operate the front desk/ clubhouse or at least give this man some customer service training. When we entered the clubhouse the clerk seemed annoyed that he had to get behind the register. He wore a frown and did not speak to us at first except to answer our questions in a short and stiff manner. We were admonished and lectured by this man about Covid-19, which was confounding because all of us were properly wearing high quality facial coverings, using sanitizer and following all CDC recommendations including maintaining physical distance. None of us were showing any symptoms of any sort, and all of us had been vaccinated. Furthermore the clerk was wearing a face mask, there is a plexiglass partition for him to stand behind and he told us that he had already received the vaccine. There was no reason for him to be fearful of infection, but even if he had been afraid for some reason, it was unfair for him to take out his frustration on us. We spent the whole car ride home trying to figure out why this man was so upset with us while we were doing everything that we could to abide by CDC guidelines as well as the rules and signage at the facility. We would love to come back and golf here but we feel unwelcome. The time limit for parking is way too short. We were unable to finish 18 holes with the amount of time given for the parking pass. When will they get the bathroom fixed? They always say the bathroom is out of order. I have a suspicion that they say this to avoid cleaning the bathroom. They missed another point of simple customer service by not mentioning where the next nearest usable restroom might be. I love love love this golf course, I have been playing here since I was just a kid. I love bringing my friends here for their first golfing experience. Looking back on the times that I golfed here as a kid there were many more people golfing on this course than there are now. It has become an empty shell of its former self, and I have a curiousity as to whether this is due in part to the poor customer service here. I hope that Precidio Hills is able to get this fixed so that the course can be more successful, I would really hate to see this place close. If the customer service situation improves by my next visit I will remove/ edit this post. If customer service does not improve my next visit will sadly probably be my last. read more

This is a place for hacks and for serious players, it is usually the in-betweens who gripe, i.e. those fools who frequent River Walk and Mission Bay and tell themselves they know something about the Royal & Ancient game because they shot 83 "that one time" from the whites (with three mulligans.) As Aunt Linda would say, puhleeeeez. I put this course right up with the likes of RSFCC and SDCC for the best old course in the county. You can have all your Carlton Oaks and Torrey Norths, just pay homage to the purity that is my Presidio. As any scratch will implore you the game is mastered from 100 yards in. Yet nearly all public courses have greens the size of Texas. Thank the Gods Presidio offers no such can of corn. The greens here are small, hard to hold, nuanced, varied, and the lies are real Americana. Yes, the greens don't roll pure, nor smack of consistency, but did you not just pay $10 for 18? Right, you did. I could wax on but consider this: Phil Mickelson brings his kids here every year. Tiger won at this place as a junior, as did Phil, Ernie Els, Charley Hoffman, and countless others. I dare anyone to stand on the 4th tee and feel the cool breeze funneling down the San Diego river valley from the moody Pacific and tell me they don't feel the bones of Balboa and company buried right there underfoot. Strike down, me hearties, for compressing the ball here is key, and one might just unearth a Conquistador's tooth in the process. read more

Fun fact: This is the course where Tiger Woods played his first tournament. (At least, that's what my Dad said) It's a tiny little par three, and it's maintained about as well as everything else that the city runs. It's not bad, it's just not exactly great either. By comparison, Colina Del Sol is beautiful, the same price and the same pitch and putt concept. Go there instead, you'll be stunned and pleasantly surprised. If you're a golf newby these courses are great, so long as you don't mind seeing a 5 year old hit it way better than you. I struggled, the cute little 3 foot tall guy behind me managed to hit a hole in one or two. This is the first golf course I've ever played on. It's super cool, centrally located, mellow, public, only costs $10 a person. Every hole is par 3 and none of the holes are more then 100 yards long. I thought the lack of maitenence and general lack of fussiness ( not to mention some hobo clothes just off the 17th!) were cool. This is a great place to work on your pitching wedge shots and your putting, you don't have to worry about losing any balls, and no one is going to give you any crap because you suck. Which I do. Pro's: $10 per person, $1 club rentals, Not too busy. Con's: The course's color is mostly light brown because of dead grass or straight up dirt. Very little maintenance. It's hard to give this course anything more than 3 stars because it's so poorly maintained. It is a short "pitch n' putt" which is good to work on your short game, if only the grass were anything like what you would play on normally. Maybe the grass is more livelier during Spring or Winter, making it better to practice on. It's also hard to figure out where you are hitting your ball to at first because all the grass looks the same. I will still go back and play here again since it's only $10 to play. read more

The lack of maintenance of the green was a bit disappointing, the only green grass was right around the hole. I'm afraid to write a great review because I don't want anyone to know about this hidden gem, BUT I also want it to stay open and to do that they need business. So, this is a GREAT DATE spot in old town for the cost of $10 bring your own putter and golf club (don't have one go to Salvation Army you can buy a golf club for less than two dollars ) and golf balls (again you can get a bag of these at Salvation Army for $.50 ) so you don't have to rent at store. This is the perfect spot to spend an afternoon, you can have a great day with your boyfriend, your girlfriend, your partner, your kids...you get the point, it's really just a beautiful way to get out get some exercise and do a miniature size golf course. You can do nine holes in about an hour or all eighteen holes in 2hours. It's a beautiful outdoor space where you can bring a picnic or you can bring snacks to eat. You can take your time enjoy the course and it's a really beautiful way to get outside. You can also walk through Old Town if you want to get something authentic to eat. I really recommend checking this out it's a hidden spot in San Diego and I'm surprised, completely surprised more people are not hitting this spot. Small chip and putt golf course. Grass is bare and place is small. Went here for a groupon deal and with the groupon it was worth it. But I wouldn't come here at full price. Their signage for each hole was off so it was a bit confusing. Not a difficult course what so ever. I did enjoy hole 8 as it was on a higher elevation and the one with most yardage. But all in all there are other places that are better to just work on your golf game than here. Plus parking is horrendous here when fighting off with other old town tourists. read more

a great track for beginners who are learning and want to move beyond the driving range but not quite ready for a 'real golf course.' I took my girlfriend here and it was a great learning experience. She had fun and I got in some short game. The greens are really not greens lol but just low/medium cut grass. It's more of a fun experience to take young kids or friends if they don't really know how to play well yet. You can't complain for 10 bucks of low-key golf and even a full 18. The holes range from 40 yards to 110 yards with the majority being 80 yard holes. A great value and I will definitely be back here again! ... especially after being 3 inches from a hole in one hehe. read more
