This is a one visit review. B&BB was the highest rated bagel shop in STL ( for good reason!) A hip friendly cashier took our order. She said they were sold out of Rosemary sea salt. I opted for Everything w/ scallion cream cheese & Onion with Lox cream cheese. Wife had a salt with plain cc. The smear was cold abundant and flavorful. Everything was good but the onion was even better, so much toasted topping. I asked the kitchen for some salt and dialed up the savory!! Space is beautiful, white tile open kitchen. This is a cute, small shop a short walk from the farmer's market. I went in for gluten free bagels and they had them available in plain and everything. Got the everything bagel and it was very tasty; as a recently diagnosed celiac, I've been on the hunt for good gluten free bagels and I'll definitely be stopping by baked & boiled whenever I'm in the area. I was told they have an allergen protocol in place whenever a customer informs them they have celiac to minimize the risk of cross contamination, which was great to hear. Plus, the person who took my order was very nice. All in all I definitely recommend baked & boiled (they're also at tower grove farmers market on saturdays but I haven't yet checked in with them to see if they have gluten free bagels available there as well). read more

I have been chasing the Lox bagel sandwich high that I got years ago from Gotham Bagels in Chicago. Until now, no place has even come close. But Baked & Boiled Bagels has surpassed my previous fave! Everyone was really kind and helpful and the place was cute with a very small eating area, and you could also watch people making the bagels as you ate. I will go there every time. I want to start by saying the customer service from Mama Dee was SPECTACULAR. I was flooded with creative bagel and cream cheese options upon entry and I let her know it was my first time there. She suggested her favorite bagels, explained the breakfast sandwich, and she didn't rush me to order. I landed with the bagel breakfast sandwich! My custom sandwich was a lightly toasted Rosemary & Salt bagel, bacon, 1 egg, cheddar, tomato and their new dirty sauce which is house made mayo with everything bagel seasoning! Got a bag full of joy this morning, and I just wanted to reiterate how truly amazing all of the flavors of their bagels are. Sure, I've not had every single one, but I have had four or five different ones. First time having one of their "spooky" bagels, and no, it is not black from food coloring, it is that way from activated charcoal powder. It was just a fun bite. To me this was hard for me to eat because mine was a bit hard. It was a bit too much work to put in just to enjoy a bagel. My friend got an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and than my other friend got one of the other bagels with egg and cheese. But neither of them had issues eating theirs. I would come back if I am ever in St.Louis again and try a different type of bagel. These are sort of on the flatter side as they are baked and boiled so they do not seem fluffy like NYC bagels. Okay, let me just say I'm from the east coast and I truly believe that NY has the most superior bagels... but with that being said, I did enjoy my pepper cheddar bagel with egg and cheese. My bagel seemed to have a bit more rise/fluffiness than my friends' bagels which were the everything with scallion cream cheese and an egg and cheese on sesame. You can see pictures below. I finally stumbled upon this place by accident and rest assured, it was everything I had hoped for. Being as though NY style bagels are on the rise in this area, I was eager to get my hands on one. I came here and got the bacon, egg, and cheese with a small coffee (Peruvian blend since they were out of the house). Ordering was simple and while they were a little busy, my order came out in no time. My first bite was heaven. I got it toasted on the everything bagel and it was crunchy with the perfect amount of char and spices. Now as for the coffee, unfortunately, it left little to be desired. I was so glad to finally try baked and boiled bagels! The bagels are delicious and I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese. It was loaded with the garlic, onion, season seeds, and poppy seed toppings and full of flavor! The texture is very chewy so I wouldn't get it toasted next time. They only have drip coffee, but it's easy to walk and stop by a nearby coffeeshop if you're craving a latte. There is much seating either, so my boyfriend and I got lucky finding a table for two. read more

Wow. This is a great gem in Soulard. It is located not far from Soulard Market. I was able to get a place to park on the street. It's in a super cool neighborhood, so there's a lot to take in. There is a single step before you enter, and it isn't very steep. Upon entering, I was greeted warmly. The store is small, with beautiful wooden display cases, and tables to enjoy your bagel and coffee. It has a charming black and white decor. Speaking of coffee, they have oat mylk! Also vegan cream cheese. Yaaaaay! The cashier was super sweet and knowledgeable. After I told her it was my first visit, she said "When you come once, you'll be back tomorrow ". She was so right! I got an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese. The aroma of the everything bagel was positively intoxicating, and I could hardly wait to dig in. Mine had delicious pickled red onions and homemade pesto and my fiancé's had a really special 1000 Island sauce. He said he wishes he had gotten his on a Rye or Pumpernickel bagel, but it was still pretty good on the Pepper Cheddar. I use to get great NY style bagels in UCity back in the day (70's-90's). Moved to NEMO and have been away from STL and their bagels for years (settling for my local Panera variety). Recently I did a bagel search and found this establishment; today I purchased 4 dozen everything bagels (without even trying them) to freeze at home. Their aroma perfumed the inside of my car, (making my mouth water the whole ride back)!! But the wait was worth it! The place is adorable, but pricey for bagels. I have been going all around STL with my NY friend that moved here recently and we tried baked a boiled last Wednesday. We each got different bagels with cream cheese. The bagels were good texture and soft, but really small. My former went basic- plain with plain cream cheese. My daughter got the cranberry white chocolate bagel and they recommended the smoked pistachio maple cream cheese, but it was not good. It tasted like sweet meat and was not appealing. It also did not go well on that bagel. It was wasted because they didn't put the cream cheese on the side as we ordered and my daughter didn't want to go back up to have it remade. I got the chocolate chip bagel with plain cream cheese and it was good. Over all, I may go again if I was in the area but won't make a special trip for them. read more

Love having an authentic bagel place near me! This is in the old Sweet Divine storefront. They have lots of staples and rotate through some seasonal specials, but you just can't go wrong with an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese. I also LOVED their rosemary sea salt bagel, wish it was a menu staple. The bagels have the perfect chew on the outside with a doughy tender crumb internally--just what you want from a real bagel! Staff are friendly, the counter is fire, there are just a couple places to sit so it's definitely more of a grab and go unless you want to linger and hope for a chair. A bonus: they are dog friendly! If you're a regular around here you know I love bagels. I had to hit up Baked & Boiled the week after they opened. I went on a Saturday morning and got 6 bagels and scallion cream cheese. I personally ate one onion bagel and one rosemary bagel. I like them. They are clearly boiled before baking and have a good chew. The amount of topping on them is extremely generous. I don't think they need quite that much but its fine. I think the best way on these is probably to take them home and scoop them out before you toast them as they are tall. Also I like the bagel outside more than the bagel middle! The scallion cream cheese was fresh and tasty. The place is cute! I'll be back again and again as it's an easy stop for me on my way to work.
