For five years the Rooster was my favorite breakfast spot as I came to downtown twice monthly. Haven't been to St Louis in four years and was excited to take my family to the restaurant for what I considered the best breakfast in downtown! Today, we were promptly greeted by our server and off to a great start. It took 36 minutes to get our food and we were short one meal. The server said the veggies were cooking (no veggies in the meal) and after 15 minutes I complained to the manager. I emphasized we have a flight and need her to be able to eat. He pretty much blew me off and stated he would apply a credit to my bill. And dipped out. No discount, another 10 minutes and she finally got her food. Biscuits were like rocks on my meal and her eggs ordered over hard were runny as can be. We cut our losses and dipped out. Very disappointing! I should've checked the reviews before coming here but service was incredibly slow. The food was fine - the French toast was perfectly cooked, the fruit salad was washed and clean (but provided little variety, just grapes blueberries and a green apples), and the egg and potatoes were very salty. Since my food took a while to come out, I anticipated that it would be hot, but most of it was luke warm. The decorations inside are on-theme featuring lots of roosters, as statues, paintings, and vinyl. It's a relaxed atmosphere for sure. read more

It was a busy morning at Roosters Downtown but the service was great. We were seated way faster than I expected to be. The server was polite and efficient even though the place was crowded. The sign of an experienced wait staff! For me, the food was just so-so. The biscuit was a bit dry and the potatoes over cooked and greasy. The dining area was loud. How are the reviews so high? I was in STL for trade show, Rooster was one block from hotel and two blocks from convention center. My party of three was seated shortly after opening. Service was inexcusably slow and absent. When server finally showed up we knew everything had to go in while we had them captive-drink order, food order, and even tried to make credit card payment to speed our exit. We made it clear that we were exhibitors and needed to staff our booth by 9am. I left my coworkers, STILL NO FOOD (they tried to serve the next table's order to us in error), to eat around 8:52am. My order was obviously packed to go. I ordered the BELT, freaking slices of bread are one inch thick. What a ridiculously unbalanced stupid sandwich. Ketchup for potatoes was good. Read the reviews (which we clearly didn't). Service is SLOW, kitchen is WTF. If you gotta be somewhere and don't have all day, don't come here. Go anywhere else. Artwork on the wall is cool, you're going to be looking at it a lot while you wait. read more

We had a large group and they got us in fast at a community table. They warned us that food was taking 50 minutes to come out as they were backed up. Waiter was friendly but haggled. Food came out much quicker than warned even though mine came out 5 minutes later than the other 7 in our party. My only real complaint was that the food was just not that great. Definitely a lot of food. Friends and family got crepes and omelettes which they seemed to enjoy. We shared the bread pudding as a table which was a good sweet treat. Also shared Turkish latte and cinnamon latte. Turkish latte was good with the coconut milk. Cinnamon latte was just an average latte with oatmilk. It's been years since I visited Rooster and was excited to return. My husband had the opportunity to go yesterday morning and the whole family went again today. It seems they are severely understaffed. I hate to even say it, but it really impacts the service. When we walked in the restaurant had a really great vibe, however there's a sign to wait to be seated. We waited a few minutes before being acknowledged or seated. My husband it was the same way the day prior and he actually had to walk in to get someone to seat him. As we ate our breakfast it increasingly got busier and more people continue to wait to be seated for extended periods of time. My husband ordered the apple pie French toast and it was equally as good the second time. It's decadent, sweet and you swear you'll have a few cavities afterwards, but every bite is worth it. My daughter ordered the Nutella crepe and seemed pretty satisfied although sh don't finish it. I ordered the breakfast burrito. The tortilla was a little soggy, but the contents inside had really delightful flavor. The salsa verde was on the side and being from California I'm used to authentic salsa verde. I wanted to like it, but I think it was rancid. Something didn't taste right so I opted for the Cholula. It wasn't worth complaining about anything because again it was obvious the staff was doing the best they could given the circumstances. If you're looking for a good vibe, family friendly and plenty of seating this place is a good option. The food is decent and I would say overall a good value for the price. Really solid breakfast spot in St. Louis. The place had a nice, easygoing vibe and felt like somewhere locals actually go, which is always a good sign. Shoutout to our server Brandon--super friendly, on top of everything, and just made the whole experience smooth. He provided local recs as well. We tried the carrot cake pancakes, the Mo. Made sausage omelet, and the Hammy Bene. The pancakes were probably my favorite--really good flavor and not overly sweet. The omelet was delicious, and the Hammy Bene hit the spot too. The only reason I am recommending this place is because of the food which was honestly 4 stars but the front of the house is extremely poorly ran. It took almost 20 minutes before being seated and we were ignored for 30 min before we questioned the only waitress that was walking around. We finally pointed out that we had been waiting so long to the woman who passed by us several times before being told she didn't notice us at all until we said something. We decided to win her over with kindness rather than being upset, difficult, and complaining. She opened up and was much more friendly after a few visits but her attention to the table was lax at best. She could have been more observant, but maybe she had a lot on her mind and/or was having a bad morning. Still no excuse when you represent the establishment. All that being said, the food was amazingly good and well made. I saw reviews about the food being tasteless or not well seasoned. That is a problem with restaurants and that is why there is salt and pepper on the table. Once salted to each person's tastes, the flavors were there. This is NOT the fault of the kitchen but people who don't understand food service. Still, all in all, I would recommend the Rooster. Our problem was with this specific location and haven't tried the others. Maybe the front of the house is better run at the other locations but to say there is room for improvement is fair at the least without trashing the place in general. This is why I gave 3 stars. We came here on a Tuesday morning while on vacation, as our friend highly recommended trying Rooster. We were seated quickly. Our server seemed very overwhelmed and it appeared that they were severely understaffed for the amount of customers coming in. We probably should've left when we realized this. Service was terrible. Our food took a solid hour to come out and when it did, only 2/3 of the dishes came out so I ended up waiting an additional 10 minutes for my plate while everyone dug in. No one checked on us until we flagged our waiter down to pay the bill. The food was okay. The Croque Monsieur was weird, Biscuits and Gravy was blah. I'm catching up on my long-neglected yelping duties. I last visited about 6 months ago and per usual, there was a line out the door and service was relatively slow once inside. That being said, the food is always good and the service is always decent. When staying in downtown St. Louis, it doesn't feel like you can get better than this in good walking distance from where we stay annually. read more

Rooster was such a great find! The decor is playful and full of rooster-themed touches that make the atmosphere fun and inviting. The menu looked incredible, and I couldn't resist trying the Maple Bourbon Bread Pudding with a side of berries. It was absolutely delicious--rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The location is central, and street parking was easy to find at that hour. The atmosphere was relaxed yet vibrant, perfect for conversation. This place has gone downhill. I had been coming here for over a decade and make it in from Chicago at least once a year. This place used to be so refined and traditional but with some unique culinary flare. Now, it's just been turned into American slop. We will never be back. The image i provided shows exactly why. Had breakfast here this morning while in town for the weekend, and it was great! The restaurant is decorated really fun (even more fun if you're a chicken lover like I am). The details in the decor like the lamps over the bar top being eggs just makes it even cuter. The food was great, we got the lemon blueberry crepes, biscuits & gravy and sourdough toast with a couple scrambled eggs. The food came out pretty quickly and tasted great! Their sourdough was REALLY delicious huge. My best friend and I visited St. Louis for the first time and rooster was on the list. It was walking distance and it was a beautiful day, but the weight was absolutely ridiculous. We joined the waitlist on Yelp before we left and still had to wait a while to be seated. We were told they were short staffed and it only seemed like one person was operating the seating. We eventually sat at the bar and ordered our meal. I ordered the breakfast burrito and it was really good. My friend ordered French toast, eggs and bacon. The drinks were also refreshing as well. The staff were super attentive and took care of us. I will say it was a delicious meal and we did enjoy your time but the wait was a huge factor in this experience. I would absolutely return, but I would have to call and understand the wait time before making that commitment again. The service was so fast that we were shocked that we were in and out so fast. Take a while to get served. Even on a day that isn't busy. But the food is good, the drinks are good. Just the wait is my issue. From start, you have to wait to be seated even if the place is empty mostly. Saves time seating myself, then once you order, it normally is supposed to take 15 minutes (from what is told to the customer by the server) but the time it takes from ordering to prep to the food being in front of me, was 30 Minutes. Made me late for work. I usually stop in this spot for a quick bite to eat and pick me up before work. But I may have to start going an hour or two early just to make sure I can eat in peace. However, the wait time for someone to seat us was a bit long and then the server seemed annoyed we were there. It was not busy at all. Once we did get seated, it took over 15 minutes for anyone to get our drink order. The service overall was just not great. We both asked for customizations on our orders and they were able to accommodate us. However, again the service was not good. Two separate servers tried to bring us food that was for a different table two separate times. Once we did get our food it was pretty good but not exceptional. The taste of the French toast was good, but somehow it was dry. The farmers platter was good, pretty standard. I would consider giving Rooster another chance. On our way to St. Louis, we stopped by Rooster after it was highly recommended. One great feature is that you can go online to check the wait time and save your place in line. I only waited about five minutes, which was perfect since we'd been warned there might be a long wait. The decor is super cute, and they have adorable drinking glasses that add a charming touch. Despite being a bit short-staffed, with part of the restaurant unoccupied, the service was still excellent. I sat at the bar and enjoyed a delicious vegetable skillet - those potatoes are to die for - and all at a very reasonable cost. The biscuits were amazing! They were soft, but also had the perfect crust crunch. I enjoyed the tomato soup as well; probably the best tomato soup I've ever had. My friend enjoyed her banana nut French toast. This meal included Pecans, pistachios, pumpkin seeds, and maybe some more hidden nuts. My other friend enjoyed her b.e.l.t. she wasn't able to finish the dish. However, the HOMEMADE mayo sauce on the sandwich stole the show. As well as. The HOMEMADE ketchup. Everything on the menu is homemade and it is clear that each dish is culinarily studied to enhance the dish. In Contrast, our server (lady) seemed quite asleep while serving us. We could barely hear her, and she wasn't very present. I'm not sure if she had a late night, but she gave us our food and condiments in a slow manner.
