I have been taking my cars to Prestige for more than twenty years. Harry and Thomas have been consistently friendly, honest, and efficient. They do not specialize really and can fix anything but body damage, in that case they can recommend someone- who is also good. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They do not recommend repairs unless they are needed. They try to save you money. I really could not ask for more. A few Christmas' i even brought them gifts for their wives and families. read more

Prestige was unable to explain why the bottom block of my engine wasn't getting oil and had seized after engine was under their care for over a year and we had put $4,500 into it. The seize event occurred days after an oil change at Prestige and a "safety check" was performed. Next, Prestige rebuilt my engine for and additional $6,000 and less than 5,000 miles later I find the rebuild wasn't very good because the valve cover is bent and the engine is breaking seals and oil is leaking everywhere with lots and lots of black smoke burn off. i had a misfire of one of my engine cylinders and they communicated exactly what they were going to do to fix the issue and why. i had many questions about the reasoning for some of their decisions (not in doubt of what they were doing, but simply because i had never dealt with this issue before), and i also asked about certain replacement parts. they answered each of my questions very professionally, taking each question at face value, not being patronizing and not rushing me for asking the questions. i appreciate not only their work but also the customer service they provided. i believe their price was reasonable too. read more

Had my van towed to a private yard said it was with the city lied to me about it. Found out from the city that it was on at private yard. They had it towed back to the shop even though they knew they weren't going to work on it stranded me knowing full. Well I didn't have any help for a couple days without trying to sell my vehicle because it's a classic that's worth a good amount of change and he thought they could just get over on somebody that was poor and homeless upstairs animal. My car is over 20 years old with 400k miles, and I've accepted for some time that it's on its last leg. 2.5 weeks ago it broke down and wouldn't start. I originally had it towed to Pep Boys, who held onto it for over a week with no answers (9 out of 10 times they wouldn't even answer my calls). They finally told me that they gave up on it, and all they know is that it's "an electrical problem." Apparently they'd been trying to diagnose and find the wiring issue all week, but couldn't figure it out. I then had it towed to Harry at Prestige Auto, and the experience was night and day. Harry gave me regular updates, was honest and communicative throughout the process, and within 4 days had figured out the problem and fixed it. He also gave me an extremely reasonable price, and didn't try to up-sell me on other non-urgent repairs. I saw in another online review of Prestige Auto that these guys are car whisperers/miracle workers. Definitely true! I'll never take my car to another shop again. They're the real deal, tons of experience and skill, and also extremely nice and helpful. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Prestige Auto has excellent service at a very fair price (especially for San Francisco). My air conditioner stopped blowing cold air. The mechanic was able to assess the issue, replace the part, and replace two brake light bulbs within an hour for $150, including labor. read more

SIXTH STREET SOMA -- Prestige is my go to shop and has been for about the last 20k miles. My '99 Civic EX is coming up on 100k miles and Harry and crew have tackled progressively more complex and expensive maintenance competently over the past few years and gained my trust along the way. I first had them change the transmission and brake fluid. Then we had the power steering pump replaced. Last month they did a major two-day-long job with new rack-and-pinion steering, new water pump. and timing belt. I appreciated that little extras -- like walking my tires a few doors down to another shop that does tire rotation -- was done as an inclusive service without any markup over what the tire shop charged them. Brought my jeep here twice: master cylinder replacement and a new muffler. Couldn't smog my jeep because they'd welded the muffler on so poorly. The master cylinder leaks, so I get to occasionally refill the cylinder in random parking lots. Called to discuss having these things fixed. Was yelled at, "We do good work. I struggled with smogging my 1997 Acura CL for six months - typical scenario with older cars: check engine lights goes on, read engine to get codes, perform repairs, reset check engine light, and then, in some mysterious sequence, drive car until it's "ready" to smog. We went through this vicious cycle 5 times before finding Harry at Prestige Auto Service. Harry came as a recommendation from sister in Sacramento and is - no lie - THE car whisperer! He ran a diagnostic on my car and within a day he understood the problem exactly: gas vapor leak on the canister side. He replaced the valve and (after we drove the car awhile to get the engine "ready" to smog)...we went to another station to smog the car. Another issue appeared on one monitor so the technician didn't proceed with the smog test. We called Harry and he told us that a car as old as ours is exempt. We took our car back to Prestige and (drumroll, please)...it passed! I guess the other smog technician didn't know that cars 1997 and older are exempt - this is an important detail he should know! Harry is immensely knowledgeable. This means that he doesn't need to test or experiment with fixes multiple times. He can fix problems most effectively. In short, go to Harry and save money! Clutch pedal squeaking and not shifting into 1/2nd gear. Others said need new clutch, flywheel, tranny to clutch cable. Took my 91 CRX to Prestige and told Harry and Thomas what was going on. They zoned on clutch box and pedal which were torn and needed to be rewelded and reenforced. Now clutch and shifting is smooth and quiet.showed me photos too. These guys are great! I took the car in because it randomly just didn't start. I was attended to immediately and Thomas showed me a schematic of the part of the car that needed to be examined. He explained to me what he planned to do. It was a little tricky because he could only test the car when it was "acting up". When he found the issue, he gave me two options for fixing it. He explained my choices until I thoroughly understand them. If he was dishonest, he could have charged me a whole lot of money for things I didn't need. These guys are HONEST and PROFESSIONAL; they fixed my car quickly and they were reasonably priced. Also, very courteous! I would recommend them without hesitation. read more

Found them listed as a Star-certified station from the California Bureau of Automotive Repair when I needed to register my vehicle in California and get a smog test. I called ahead of time and they told me to come in before noon to get the test done that same day. They were courteous, efficient and had me out of there in less than 20 minutes. The most challenging part was driving my SUV onto the sidewalk and up the steep ramp into their garage. Would definitely recommend Prestige Auto Service. read more

0 Star please! I took my car to Prestige due to intermittent issues with starting the car. I also asked that my brakes be assessed. The tech called to say that he started the car many times and it was fine. He advised that the front & rear brakes needed replacing which I agreed to @$650. Within days the car wouldn't start and I was stranded. It turns out it was the Starter which my next mechanic figured out and replaced. I don't get why this was not discovered by Prestige. 3 months later my brakes were squeaking loudly and there was a grinding sound. By this time I have a good mechanic who told me I received a botched/cut corners brake job. I had my new mechanic repair the brakes, perfect ever since. I did not go back to Prestige for the brake fix, I do not trust them with my safety. So that is my experience. I feel that $650 was stolen from me and I chalk it up to life in the City. read more

I've had my 2005 Nissan Altima SE repaired at Prestige twice and had two phenomenal experiences. The mechanics are friendly, knowledgeable, honest and work fast and efficiently. They not only fixed the sensor issues on my car, but they gave me insights on how to better maintain the vehicle.
