I discovered three more product categories that can be used for non-alcoholic home concoctions:…read more 1. Flavored syrups and fruit concentrates. Dilute and pour on your shaved/crushed ice or ice cream. Or use instead of the more expensive smaller size flavorings with your Soda Stream carbonated beverage maker, (that thing that injects CO2 in your water to make soda.) 2.Malted (not roasted) barley and wheat, for adding to whole wheat flour for a better rise. White flour (all-purpose flour and bread flour) has malted barley flour added, which has enzymes that break down starch into the glucose/sugar that yeast can use. Whole wheat flour has little to no malted barley/wheat added. Be careful because adding too much malt powder to dough breaks down too much starch. Check recipes before use. GF will crush malt, but not grind it sufficiently for dough use. I use a coffee/spice grinder to turn the malted grains into powder/flour. 3. Dried malt extract, aka malt sugar. This usually consists of three types of sugars: glucose/dextrose, maltose, and maltotriose. Use for making old-fashioned "malted" milkshakes. Good for adding to hot breakfast cereals, too. I use a little in bread-making. (See my previous review about corn sugar/glucose/dextrose.)

My cousin and I went to catch up and play some games. This place has definitely changed since the…read morelast time I came. It seemed more cozy and welcoming. When you first walk in, it's a gaming room for the whole family! Then you walk into the bar area and there's lots of things for sale, from merch to beer to other games and books. The folks working were friendly and knowledgeable about events. My cousin ordered the beer flight and woke food. All was delicious. For the flight you could pick any beer or cider on tap. For food we got pretzel, chips and queso, chicken nuggets and grilled cheese. Everything came out relatively quickly. There is a ton space to play game in the next room over and wasn't too loud. There were several people who came to work or read and sat in the bar area and seemed content. Great experience!

We used to love going to the one downtown on Mass Ave also before it closed. But we're thankful this one is still open and that we live so close to it. I've found so many Xmas gifts for friends/family here also. If you're looking to find some retro, classic games and/or books, this might be the motherload! It's tucked in on the backside facing Home Depot, but once you find it the first time, you'll never forget where it is! Go in, grab some games, a beer (or two), and hang out during a trivia night! You'll feel right at home.

I wonder what other stuffings were in the dumplings. I greatly enjoyed the veggie Asian slaw of carrots, red peppers, chives, etc. under the dumplings. Ponzu sauce has a good taste. I definitely would recommend these dumplings. I have been interested in trying the $16 smoked then fried gluten-sensitive wings. A pound is like 8 wings. I needed more house-made BBQ sauce to cover the wings. Not amazing. Jamaican jerk wings were quite spicy. Carrots came with dish. I hoped for just smoked but must come as fried too but that made them hard to chew so I must give them 4 stars. I sat at a bar with TVs surrounding the room. Common sink between the restrooms. You can sign up for their reward program after you sign your credit card approval. Welcome 25 points if you plan to return. Also, you can sign-up for a $10 birthday gift. Plus, they have a mug club program, too.

We're out of towners and the restaurant caught our eye while driving through town the other day. We…read morechecked out the menu online and decided to stop in for dinner last night. I'm huge on seeing photos before I order (hence me being a YELPer) so I loved the photos on the website. The hostess and our server were friendly. It took a big before the server came over, but the hostess did warn us that he did just have another table seated before us. The beer drinkers in our party enjoyed their beers. We started out with two apps... cheese curds and pretzel bites. When they came to the table, neither looked like they do on the website. On the website the pretzels looked a bit better than something you'd get in a mall, and they stated they came with cheese and mustard. In real time they only had cheese. The cheese curds also looked completely different and were smaller portions than shown online. For our meals we had a burger, a chicken sandwich, and I had the southwest salad. There seemed to be a little miscommunication with our waiter about the dressing for my salad, and that resulted in my salad missing some ingredients but he resolved it. But also of note, the menu listed a "avocado lime vinagrette" and the salad came with a guac that just looked like it was maybe left in the blender a second longer than it should have been. The burger was huge. We all agreed the food was "good" but we wouldn't add it to our list of must haves next time we are in town. The disappointment more came from things that hyped us up on the menu online and in store and then weren't actually the same. :(

Big Lug Canteen delivers a memorable meal from start to finish -- friendly, unpretentious service,…read morea warm neighborhood vibe, and two standout dishes that I'll be ordering again. The Brussels sprouts are an absolute triumph: perfectly blistered with a caramelized exterior and tender interior, dressed in a harmonious balance of bright acidity and savory depth. Little crunchy bits and a subtle smoky char add texture, while a finishing sprinkle (and a hint of something sweet-salty) elevates them from simple side to a show-stealer. The Korean salmon is equally impressive. The fish arrives flaky and moist with a richly glazed crust that carries sweet, spicy, and umami notes in perfect proportion. Layers of flavor -- gochujang-forward heat, sesame brightness, and a touch of citrus -- play against the salmon's natural richness without overpowering it. It's plated thoughtfully, with complementary sides that keep each bite balanced. If you're at Big Lug Canteen, don't pass up those two dishes -- they demonstrate skilled technique, bold yet nuanced seasoning, and a real sense of care in the kitchen. Great food, relaxed atmosphere, solid value. Highly recommended.
