Great little hole-in-the-wall restaurant, hidden to the side of a gas station. Really. But, worth checking out. The food was terrific & the owner was personable. Family ran business. I had a large hamburger steak (w/gravy & onions), grilled asparagus, Caesar salad, and toast for $12.99. Very daily prices and quite good. My wife had an enormous, bone-in, Kansas City strip (off menu, but ask), a loaded baked potato, toast, and Caesar salad for $29.99. Huge, high quality steak at a fair price. If you are not looking for this place, you'll flat miss it, but it is well worth a stop. read more

This restaurant is on the side of a gas station. I was a little hesitant to try it but, it was a good stop! The service was great. The owner/manager came out to say hello and thank us for coming in. The food was really good! My husband had the steak tips with a loaded baked potato and coleslaw. The steak tips were tender and good, and the potato was really good, but he did not care for the coleslaw(prefers a finer chop). I had the steak tip salad, and it was very good. The steak on top of the salad was tender and delicious and perfectly cooked. The salad itself was also pretty good. I got a few of the courser bottom of the lettuce head pieces that I didn't eat, but it was pretty easy to just fish those out and there was plenty more to eat. The dining room was clean and larger than I expected. This was an excellent stop on 231 heading south! Please give this place a try! One thing to note was the restrooms are actually through a side door into the gas station. The women's room was clean but odd in that one stall didn't lock and the others would not open(sign said lift handle but they seemed stuck). Hopefully they fix that. read more

Let's address the elephant in the room: Preston's is a steakhouse adjacent to a gas station. Understand they're not shooting for five-star ambience. I ordered a ribeye sandwich and a side of fried okra. The sandwich was delicious! Tasty chunks of ribeye on perfectly buttered and toasted Texas toast with the perfect quantity of grilled onions. Fried okra is pretty difficult to screw up, it I love me some fried okra. They served a generous portion. read more

We were a little leery after reading the last reviews but feeling adventurous went into the restaurant attached to a truck stop. It is nothing fancy with some sports memorabilia on the walls. They do not wear mask servers or cooks. We ordered salad with grilled chicken and ribeye sandwich with coleslaw. We waited about 15 minutes not too bad. The salad was made with the things I asked for and chicken is precooked then grilled. Raspberry vinaigrette made it good. The ribeye was cooked very tender and served on grilled Texas toast. Coleslaw had a bit much mayo but good. Overall we had a good lunch. The down side is you have to use the truck stop restrooms a bit dirty. We may stop when passing through again and hungry. read more

We stayed in Troy for a night and used Yelp to find a place to eat. Preston's popped up with a four rating so even though it was attached to a gas station we said "why not". Well as you can see it fell short. I ordered a "Slider Cheeseburger" with French fries and when it came it was a cheeseburger cut in half with a small portion of steak fries. I have to admit I was surprised and wondered what happens to the other half. My husband ordered a ribeye with a house salad and a loaded baked potato. I believe there was a communication problem as he ordered a "mid-rare" and it came with a Rare pick in it. It was rare but when he cut into it a line of gristle prevented him from cutting through. After requesting the owner to see the gristle line as I cut it he gladly went back in the kitchen and cooked him a new one. This one was on poInt and perfectly cooked but by then he had finished his potato and salad so when the steak showed up that's all he had. I will say the staff was super nice and efficient, even to the point of being early with the check as he ate his steak. My thoughts say make this place a special destination and it will deserve a higher rating when the food becomes worthy. read more

I was so excited to eat here, based on the menu. My party (3) walked inside, and the servers seemed confused that we wanted to eat inside. No masks on ANYONE, even the people in the kitchen. We seated ourselves at the request of the server, and she came to the table for our drink orders. No greeting, and still no masks to be seen anywhere, not even pulled down. None whatsoever. Fantastic. Had to go to Troy last week and was looking for a good place to eat. The locals recommended Preston's, so we decided to try it. I give it an A+. The service was great, the atmosphere was great, and the food was FANTASTIC. I ordered the fried shrimp and loaded fries, and my buddy ordered the steakburger. No joke, the steakburger was about 2 inches thick and both meals were absolutely delicious. Unfortunately I live too far away to go often, but I fully plan on driving 2 hours there for my birthday dinner in a few months. This was one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at. read more

The food seems to be hit or miss. Their pork steak is usually the best but not always available. The asparagus was like limp noodles. The mushrooms cut so small and overcooked. The owner is very nice and supportive of Troy University. I just wish he could get a good cook. read more

This is by far the best experience I have had in such a long time. My colleague and I came into town for an Education Fair and we decided to have dinner together. I discovered this restaurant via Yelp and I can say wholeheartedly that Preston's did not fail us. The owner -Robbie was AMAZING!!! He greeted us and welcomed us in with open arms. We were able to have his famous grilled shrimp and homemade cocktail sauce. It was fantastic. I ordered the catfish filet and my colleague order the sirloin steak. Everything was delicious!! Our first time at Preston's ... a steakhouse in a gas station?!? Who'd a thunk it?!? All I can say is ... waWOW! Excellent menu selection, huge toothsome portions, perfectly prepared to order. I had the grilled Mahi-Mahi, with steak fries & grilled corn-on-the-cob, & my wife had the cheeseburger, with steak fries. We were both very happy with our selections. We gave our compliments to the kitchen staff. The service was EXCEPTIONAL! We had a large party (14), but were seated immediately. They also didn't charge a mandatory gratuity, although the staff definitely earned it. Our server, McCall, was spot-on. She was prompt, professional, and conscientious. My husband & I were passing through Troy looking for a place for dinner that was not fast food. Upon checking Yelp for suggestions, we honed in on Preston's, & boy are we glad we did! Our food was delicious, & the service was just perfect. We were promptly greeted the minute we walked in the door, our drink orders were taken, & our appetizer (Wisconsin cheese curds, yummy) was delivered quickly. My husband ordered ribeye steak tips, corn, & a dinner salad. I ordered fried steak strips, fried green beans & a loaded baked potato. Both were served with grilled Texas Toast. We were both very happy with our dinners! We were going to try a home made dessert, but the portions are so big that we had no room for it. Wow! This place was surprisingly good for a gas station restaurant. The steak fingers were generously portioned and well seasoned (get them grilled - yum!). The chicken fingers are crispy and flavorful, especially when tossed in the wing sauce. The gooey fries are curly fries with queso sauce and bacon crumbles, which means they are rock stars on the table. The side salad is fresh. We had an awesome lunch today! read more

First and last time. I came in with 2 friends looking to enjoy our lunch. I ordered the BBQ potato. All of our food came out either like warm or cold. I asked to have my food warmed up, the girls in the kitchen questioned the warmth of my food. They both get attitudes. My food comes back out, pulled pork had warmed but the potato was then cold. On my last, and very last, visit I phoned in my "to go" order at 5:15p. The server said it would be about 20 min to be ready. I arrived at the drive through window at 5:40p with one car in front of me. I waited about 5 minutes for the car to move but it did not. Thinking that my food may be getting cold, I parked and went inside. server said my order was not ready yet, so I sat down. Then, I noticed that two other customers were waiting on their "to go" orders. I saw maybe 5 customers sitting at tables waiting on their food. I sat for 20 minutes watching food orders being served to tables. The 2 "to go" order customers finally got their food. At 6:10p, I asked to speak to the owner. He came out from the kitchen and I told him of my dissatisfaction in waiting for an hour for my order. He only gave me excuses that he was short handed even though I could count 6 workers in the kitchen area. He continued to apologize but did not offer a reduction in price or a gift card on my next visit. I had already paid for my order 30 minutes prior to speaking with him. I asked for a full refund, got it and walked out. This was the third time in the past 3 years that I have been dissatisfied with the service here. The food has always been good except for one cold, partially cooked baked potato once. I do not plan to give Preston's restaurant any more of my business. This is only my opinion. This is one spot you will NEVER want to have a meal at. I selected to eat out at this location in Troy on 4/25/21. The fish sandwich i was given was small enough to feed my infant son with. I spoke my concerns with the manager who carelessly brushed me off in the regards to the serving size of the meal that i had purchased.. i will NEVER waste my money at this place ever again. Customer service and management is a complete joke here. If you are wanting a quality meal please do not visit this place. Do better Preston or close down!! read more

Awesome find in Troy. We usually stop in Troy on the way to the beach each year. The burgers and wings were fantastic. Cooked just the way we ordered them. Conner was our server and was great.
