Thai, who runs the salon, offers great haircuts and friendly service for an affordable price. She is very experienced and caters to her clients wants to achieve the desired look. I love that walk-ins are welcomed, because I drop by whenever I get the chance and even then, the wait time is never too long. I have fairly long hair. (just above the middle of my back) I get blonde highlights throughout my entire head, and the prices at Pretty Hair are AMAZING!! I've price shopped other salons, and most places want to charge me anywhere from $150. - $200. THAT IS NOT THE CASE AT PRETTY HAIR!! It always depends on what I'm having done; trim, cut, color, shampoo, blow-dry, style, eyebrow waxing, buying shampoo & conditioner, etc; but I've never, ever spent more than $110. I have been going to Pretty Hair for almost 10 years now, and I can't say enough about how awesome Thai is, and the work she does. No exaggerating, I get so, so, so many compliments on my hair color. This week I needed a cheap haircut, but didn't want to be one of the assembly-line jobs at the discount chains. A friend suggested Pretty Hair. On the surface it didn't seem like a guy place, but I was on a tight schedule, desperate to get the weight off my head, and I was particularly poor. Plus, they take walk-ins. When I entered there was one guy getting cut and another waiting. No more worries about Pretty Hair being prissy. The place shares a small building with a nail salon, and the place is a bit shabby on the outside. Don't let it scare you. The inside is kept well, though it won't win any decorating awards. My visit was in the middle of the day and there was just one person cutting. I explained what I wanted and she understood immediately. She did a great job. I left with a head that is now 2 lbs lighter and a wallet that hardly felt a thing. Cuts are $10.00 and worth more. I highly recommend this place. read more

I love this place. I have really long hair and most places charge a ton just for a simple trim, here it's $15 and takes about 10 minutes. The owner is super nice and very skilled- I've been coming here for years and have never had a bad experience. I've since moved from one block away to Hillsboro and I refuse to get my hair cut anywhere else! Definitely worth the trek back into portland. read more

I showed her a picture of the hair I wanted and she cut it way to short and I didnt even get the bangs, I asked for red hair and she said no because there was a little green in my hair which makes no sense because I color over color all the time and it stays, but the ugly brown color she used sucked and washed out the next day!!! Heck splat works better than the stuff she used, not going back.. I paid $80 BTW not worth it. read more

The hair cut seems like it is not fully done and the clippers leave odd strands of hair that was never cut. I told her do not cut my beard as I showed her with my hands. She did not cut my hair like I asked and cut the sides off of my two year old beard. I will never go back! read more

Horrible effort. Unless you're shaving my head, no haircut should take less than 8 minutes. The lines weren't straight at all, she used one hand the whole time, and she had the balls to argue with me when I politely pointed out that I would have liked a bit more time and effort. The worst hair cut I have ever gotten and completely agree with Miguel C. It took under 7 minutes. I give her an image, I asked for a slight trim, just a little shorter than what i had then (what i had then was past the tip of my ears) and now i look like someone who got there head stuck in a lawn mower but a little worse and like Miguel C. she had the nerve to argue with me when i said that was short enough, but she said that my mom would not like it long. Like how do you know what my mom does or does not like about my hair? And above it all i had a picture of what i wanted and she could not even do that.
