I was given this office as a referral from DentaCal. These people are ridiculous. Scheduling person was horribly rude. She was very rude & kept telling me that I had to open this app, fill out the create an account to accept an cancellation appointment that they were going to give me immediately. Told her I'm driving to work, "Well, pull over & accept & create your account otherwise you'll lose this appointment. As I stated to her , I'm on Hwy 50 and I cannot drive and fill out an application. "Well pull over & do the application. Hung up.on her. They must be desperate for clients because for the rest of the day I received 5 texts & 3 calls to do this application for that appointment. I had to Block them. I wouldn't EVER recommend this Joke of a practice. I'm also letting EDH MediCal services know how unprofessional service in the very basics, per these reviews it's much worse!! After many second rate Dentists in Placerville (and many expensive disappointments) I sought out a competent Dentist to install permanent teeth. I found Dr. Han at Preventive Dental. Here's the skinny : his office staff and chairside assistants were and are Top Drawer . Dr. Han is Top Drawer too. In 3 visits everything ( extractions,consult, Xrays, infection cure, appliances and followup realigning) were done. I have no complaints, only praise for Dr. HAN and his staff! Total expense for everything : $2759.00 ! He has a DDS , a Masters and is a PhD. Great combo of degrees and YES I recommend him and Practice Wholeheartedly. read more

I've seen many negative reviews about Preventive Dental and Dr. Han and wanted to introduce my experience, which was nothing short of amazing! Last week, I had FIVE root canals. In one appointment. Dr. Han was wonderful! He is very kind, gentle, and thorough. He stopped every few minutes to see if I was okay or experiencing any discomfort. I've never had a more pleasant experience in a dental chair. In fact, I fell asleep during the procedure! It really saddens me to see all the negative reviews about Preventive Dental and Dr. Han, because those kinds of reviews can absolutely have an impact on a person's livelihood. My experience of Dr. Han and Preventive Dental was fantastic and I want to ensure that he has a balance of reviews on here, because I'm pretty certain that it's the unhappy patients that immediately think, "I'm gonna give him a YELP review!", while it never occurs to the happy, satisfied patients to post a YELP review, and they just continue on about their day, happy and satisfied. **Stay away** Dr Han and his clinic have a record of treating their patients with complete disdain! Dr Han not only decided to stop halfway through a critical root canal procedure, refusing to finish it as originally agreed, but he also called the police on us! (more details below). No professional and caring dentist will ever leave you hanging like that, yet alone kick you out of his clinic! And we're not the only ones as you can see from the rest of the reviews. In fact, as we stepped in the day of the procedure, he was threatening to call the police on another patient. Here's what happened to us: My mother needed to get a root canal done when her crown fell out. Dr Han performed his initial consultation where he recommended a root canal with temporary crown. Few weeks later, after getting our insurance approval for that full procedure, we came in to our appointment and signed the consent forms for the root canal and the temporary crown as part of the scheduled procedure. The staff explained the types of temporary crowns that we should expect coming out of the procedure, so a clear mutual understanding about what we're about to do. However, after performing the root canal, Dr Han decided to stop the procedure leaving my mom with a hole in her front teeth, without a temporary crown. When we asked why, Dr Han first told us the insurance won't cover the temporary crown in the same visit - which is a complete lie, as we later confirmed with the insurance. When further confronted, Dr Han finally explained that he doesn't want to risk putting the crown for liability reasons, which left us totally dumbfounded: what kind of dentist or doctor will recommend a certain procedure, based on his own prior evaluation (which we paid for), charge the insurance for the procedure and then stop halfway through leaving you in an incomplete state!? This is not only business malpractice, this is dental malpractice! And to top it off, he proceeded with a racist comment suggesting us to finish the procedure "back in her country", referring to my mother. So finally, on our way out, we asked for a copy of the consent forms we signed as a record that the staff clearly had us scheduled for the full procedure. Instead of giving us our copies as legally required, he threatened to call the police on us! Finally he only agreed to give us the copy of the root canal, withholding the temporary crown form that we signed which was very questionable from him & his staff. As they refused to give us both consent forms, they then proceeded to call the police on us. The police came in through the back door (as if we were bandits) but quickly realized we were not causing any trouble, that we were not combative and totally within our rights. We finally got both consent forms as proof Dr Han and his staff were fully aware and scheduled for the full procedure. Leaving patients like this and kicking them out is completely unethical, yet alone negligent and illegal. My mother got a tooth infection immediately after, and her old crown no longer fits because Dr Han shaved so much off her tooth. Dr Han is not here to make your situation better, you're guaranteed to leave his office in a worse state. read more

I live in South Lake Tahoe and have to drive an hr to get to Preventive Dental. They scheduled me on a Friday at 8:15 AM. When I got there I noticed that they were remodeling the place. I walked in to find two of the office staff standing at the front desk. They looked at me like I was crazy when I said, "oh, you are closed?!" She gave me a rude nod saying yes. I said that I had an appointment and one of them rudily said, "we called everyone and left voicemails saying that we were going to be closed." I never got any call or voicemail! I said, "well can I reschedule?" She said, "your going to have to call back another time!" You have to be kidding me with this garbage! I waited over a month for this appt. Now I have to call back and reschedule for months down the road and with no apology for their mistakes! Very irritating esp. when I have to drive an hour. I've been going here for a number of years, and have had bridgework, fillings, and general dentistry and cleanings. Pros: -Dr Han is a very competent dentist, really knows his craft, and has never recommended any work that wasn't needed, even redid a procedure for free he felt his hygienist didn't do well enough. I believe he really cares about preventive care and the welfare of his patients. Gets the job done quickly and skillfully. -I go regularly for cleanings and the hygienists ( two different ones) have always been pleasant and competent. - Probably the main reason people will go though is cost- his prices are far less than any other dentist I've found for similar work, and he also takes virtually all dental plans, including medi-cal. Cons: -His "bedside manner" could be considered brusque at best. Hard to understand at times, and doesn't really explain procedures well, though will if pressed. Always seems rushed. -The staff can be indifferent or even rude, I try not to deal with them, but sometimes I must. I'm just really firm back at em, and don't take no guff. -Hard to get through via phone for appointments - Office is old, can hardly be considered up to date. So, short strokes, if you can afford higher prices or have a good dental plan, there are many other dentists that will give you a much better office experience- though I'm not sure better care. read more

I got my wisdom teeth removed, a root canal and a crown from this place and had a great experience all around. The front desk staff is very accommodating and knowledgeable. They calmed my nerves before the procedures and ensured me that I was in good hands. The dentist, Dr. Han, was extremely professional and prompt through all three procedures I've had there. They are always busy with multiple patients, but I've never had to wait longer than 10 minutes once I was in the chair. It is apparent that they know what they are doing and I commend their professionalism. :) read more

This so Called Dental place is the worst office ive ever been to, I live in South Lake Tahoe so it was quite a drive. I called this place about 2 months ago for my mom, her appointment was on Tuesday. First impresssions were not good at all walking into the office there was a very nasty smell outside the office, walking in the office it had another bad smell i was thinking of telling my mother that we needed to get out of there but we stayed , Our app was at 3:30pm we arrived at 3:15pm they took us in at 4:10pm. These people think they can just waste other peoples time?, That's what appointments are for! the front desk staff was rude one of the girls in particular she had a mean face and seemed like she didn't even want to be there (NO ONE IN THAT OFFICE HAD A SMILE OR MADE US FEEL WELCOMED). When they finally called my mom in i went in with her the Asian lady started cleaning her teeth, i had to ask her who she was she answerd saying she was the Hygenist, then she went to get X-rays and then we saw her teeth on a laptop with the dentist witch didn't introduce him self either, he was Asian as well couldn't understand him much but he was being rude as well. I read all these crappy reviews before going in to have all 4 wisdom teeth pulled. Unfortunately I'm on medi-cal right now, so finding a dentist to do this wasn't easy. They all have long waiting lists, and I couldn't wait any longer. I took a chance and went here. I was fully prepared to walk the fuck out if I needed to... Because these reviews are horrid. Dr Han did a great job. I think his language barrier gets misconstrued with most you people. He's not an asshole, and he does understand you. His assistants do suck, however. I hadvalerie as a hygienist and now I have a gap in my front teeth.... she jammed the metal pokey thing all over the place..... including between my two front teeth giving me a damn gap I never had before. She had me close my mouth to suck water out with the hose while she left the metal pokey thing in my mouth so it poked the roof of my mouth. This is a horrible dentist. We came in for a cleaning and their was a man next to us getting a check up with the dentist. The dentist hurt him so bad that the man screamed and got up and left in anger. The lady in the other room said this has happened twice while she's at preventative dental. The front desk receptionist is not nice and not personable whatsoever. Makes you feel unwelcome and doesn't respond to the patients that try to talk to her. Don't walk... RUN!... Or be sure to get the price(s) he quotes you, procedure codes and names of each procedure he tells you is not covered by DentiCal and find out for yourself if he is trying to get more money from you than he can get from DentiCal. Dr. Han lied, saying our insurance didn't cover 2 expensive procedures. After I paid, I found out that our insurance would have paid (JUST NOT AS MUCH AS HE CHARGED ME), but I assumed it wasn't on purpose and I never once treated them badly. I let his son Edward (who works the front desk) know that they can still bill our insurance and reimburse me and that I was perfectly happy to wait to be reimbursed after they got paid by our insurance. He seemed quite nice about the whole thing. We showed up for an appointment after that... and Dr. Han yelled at us and said he wouldn't see us anymore. I was shocked and Edward asked us to stay. He walked over to his father to convince him to change his mind and Dr. Han then directed his anger at him just as loud and rude as he spoke to me. Edward then came back to us and continued to try to get us to stay. All of this happened just as we were signing in at the front desk, in front of a packed waiting room. I know how hard it is to find a good dentist with DentiCal, but I couldn't allow this out-of-control man access to my husband's mouth. I told Edward that I didn't understand why Dr. Han was upset and that we were leaving. I said that I felt embarrassed especially for him and I apologized (for what, I am not sure). I've seen a lot of abuse over the years we were going there that was always aimed at others, but never at us. I figured Dr. Han must get a lot of very difficult patients and we weren't the difficult type, so we would be fine. WRONG! This happened about a year ago. I brought my daughter here for a emergency because had fallen at school and broke her front tooth in half. My poor child who is only 5yrs old was is extreme pain and was scared at the same time. And this man had the least amount of compassion I've ever seen for a hurting child. It broke my heart as I'm seeing my helpless child team pretty much tormented by this dentist that supposed to be helping her. I had a root canal and a crown, which broke twice. When it recently broke, for the second time, I called for an appointment and they could not get me in for several months. When I went to my appointment, they only cleaned my teeth and indicated that I would have to schedule another appointment to extract the tooth with the broken crown. They could not get me in for my next appointment for three more months. I asked if I could have a reminder, as I did not have a planner with me. I was told that they do reminders. I did receive a reminder, two hours before my appointment and could not make it. When I called to reschedule the appointment, the receptionist was rude, arrogant and condescending. I was told that they can't always give reminder calls, which contradicted what I was told before. I told the receptionist that I have been trying to take care of the broken crown for six months. The receptionist indicated that it had only been two months, since my last appointment in April. I reminded her that it was well into July, which is three months, since my last appointment and that I had scheduled the original appointment, three months prior at which time the dentist should have done the extraction. The receptionist indicated that they are short staffed. I have heard this same excuse in the past. I asked to speak to an office manager and the receptionist indicated that she was not available. I asked when she would be available and the receptionist claimed the office manager was on leave and that there wasn't anyone taking her place, during her leave. I then asked to speak to the dentist and was told that he was with a patient. When I asked when he would be available to speak to me, I was told that he doesn't speak to patients, without an appointment. In a rude tone, the receptionist indicated, "what do you want?, I can reschedule you. I replied no thank you I will be filing a complaint with the dental association and find a better dental office. The staff treat patients, particularly Medical patients as if they are scum. I think this is interesting since I am sure I am better educated than them ( I have two B.A. degrees) and I am retired from a government agency where at $29.00 and hour, I am sure. I made far more money that they make. I would have given zero stars, except the system requires that you give at least on star. read more

I had an appointment with Dr. Han yesterday, Thursday, November 30th, 2017. I was referred to them by Medi-Cal/ Denti-Cal. On running my insurance cards they told me that Medi-Cal would not pay them. The front desk person, Edward was very, very unfriendly, rude, short, unhelpful, etc. etc. Dr. Han was at the front desk and had a mean, very unfriendly look on his face as he scowled at me and gave me dirty looks. I went straight from Dr. Han's office to see my Medi-Cal worker and she was just as confused as to why they wouldn't see me and why they were so incompetent and gave me false information. To me after this horrendous experience and seeing here on Yelp that my terrible experience was the norm for Edward, Dr. Han and this office it was a blessing that they didn't see me. I literally hate this office. I've been seeing Dr.Han since I was about 12. It used to be a fine experience, but within the last five years I have had terrible experience after terrible experience. After my last visit, I will never, ever go back to this office. I went in for a cleaning and because one if my fillings had fallen out. Firstly, (and this happens EVERY time) my appointment was scheduled at 1:00pm and I didn't get called back until 2:30pm, luckily I wasn't take time off of work to be there. They took Xrays and told me I needed a root canal, which had to be authorized by my insurance. I didn't receive a cleaning, I didn't get my filling fixed. They said they would call me for a follow up appointment...which they did a week later, for my root canal. Went back in, waited forever (like always), still didn't get a cleaning, still didn't get my filling fixed. Instead I got yelled at by Dr. Han, he literally yanked on my jaw insisting that i open my mouth wider and was just completely unprofessional and rude! He yelled me afterwards because I asked if I was getting my cleaning and/or my filling and said he would do it when I came back in for my permanent filling for my root canal. Went back again, took forever again, he did the permanent filling on my root canal and then I had to remind him of my other filling, which he was super rude about. It was on one of my back molars, so again he yanked my jaw around with his finger in my mouth yelling at me to keep my mouth open. He did a half-assed, quick job on it and sent me on my way. When I was done, I asked the scheduling receptionist about scheduling my cleaning, she looked baffled that I hadn't even got one yet. (She's always been nice, like all the girls in the office). As i was getting my teeth cleaned today i could over hear the girls talking to eachother. I love Dr. Han and most of his staff, BUT he needs too get rid of one ugly duckling! I found out later her named is kristina! But as im getting my teeth cleaned i hear kristina come back and tell one of the girls in the back."you need to come talk to this Mexican lady!" I could tell the girl from the back office was shocked that kristina said this she corrected kristina. "You mean the Spanish speaking patient!" And kristinas response is " "yeah you need to come talk to this Mexican lady!" I wanted to say something so bad to her. How dare kristina think she can label someone. But the girl from the back once again corrected lil miss kristina by saying, "don't call people mexican. Say Spanish speaking" and you wouldn't believe kristinas response again. I couldnt believe it. "I'll be honest; i was scared when I read the reviews on yelp the day before I had appointment with this office, plus my sister and I live all the way in Tahoe . But we had no choice , this is the only office takes medical. However Our first visit has been easy and painless. They put me for x-ray, then I had a cleaning with the Hygienist, I forgot her name . But she was very nice. She spent almost an hour with me since I haven't had my teeth cleaned for years. She told me I have gum disease and explained to me my oral condition. She was very sterile and gentle. My mouth feels so clean , and my gum is less bleeding after the cleaning. Then I had Dr Han went over the X-ray with me. He wasn't rude like people commented about him. It was just a little bit hard to understand him. But when I asked him to repeat , he said it again slowly and I understood him very well. My teeth were a mess , and he explained to me everything and had me come back for all my treatments. I have been back and forth 3-4 times for my root canal, crowns, and wisdom teeth extraction. All appointments went well. Dr Han and his staffs were always nice to us. My sister has same experiences as me. We both are appreciated for all the work Dr Han & and his staffs have done for us.
