Every person that came through the home was extremely professional, tidy, and kind. The gas company that they recommended that we work with to install the gas line to the fireplace was also incredible. These guys were incredible from start to finish. We replaced our existing gas logs which had been in place for over 20 years. Christina came over - she has more than 20 years experience - and identified exactly what we needed. She explained what was going on, gave us options and had specific recommendations. The work we needed was repointing, repainting, cleaning the flue, and then replacing the gas logs. She said it would be a 2 month process. Guess what? It was competed in 2 weeks. The workmen who came were on time, polite and hardworking and the fireplace looks fantastic. The gas contractor was polite, knowledgeable and quick. He was able to accommodate a special request: to allow out antique andirons to remain the in fire place. Important to ask for Christina as she can solve any issue, should one arise. Excellent experience with Priddy Chimney! A few years ago, they lined our chimney and have been keeping the fireplace in tip top shape with annual inspections. They recently did the inspection and sent two servicemen out to our home. They were friendly, knowledgeable, polite and they did a complete inspection with some suggestions. They explained why we had smoke stains outside the fireplace. A few weeks later, we had 2 repairmen come out to repair the fireplace - again, a completely happy experience. Two Priddy employees arrived to clean a vent line from a clothes dryer. They ran the cleaning brush clear into the dryer while it was running, destroying the dryer. The dryer had performed admirably and reliably since I purchased it. The contentious female owner of the company refused to pay for the dryer. After I said I would take the case to court, and only after a long 4-month delay, she sent a check for $400. The replacement dryer, on sale at Sears, cost $750, leaving me with a $350 deficit. I had a reliable dryer before her employees destroyed it. The owner caused major drama before making a nominal payment. Look elsewhere if you need your dryer vent line cleaned. read more

Pretty bad service from beginning to end. The person taking the order and the deposit was fine. I explained I wanted the ash dump cleaned out, A chimney cap put on. the chimney swept and an inspection. The ash dump, I explained, was critical as new fire safe doors were being adhered. I never recieved a confirmed estimate or scope of work for this. On the day of the work, they swept and did an inspection but did not do the ash pit as they said the chimney was not in working order. When I reiterated that was one of the main reasons I hired their services they charged $450 to clean out ash (highly technical work -not). The ash dump was barely cleaned out the day of the sweep and worker was asked to do it again when he returned the next day as he did not have materials for the fireplace cap. He did so grudgingly, but again it was not really clean so we had to ask a THIRD time to please do this uncomplicated job for which we were being charged $450. A rather lengthy report was generated estimating a fix of $14,000. We will not return to this outfit. read more

My advice is to not use this company. Right off the bat, it's really expensive for work that is good but not good enough for the price. More importantly, dealing with this company has been the worst experience I have had with a company, I think, ever. They started out great, very responsive and helpful until I paid my deposit and committed to the work. The workers were supposed to arrive between 8AM - 10AM which didn't happen at all, they were arriving between 11 and as late as 1:30PM and leaving by about 3 - 3:30. Twice they failed to arrive at all, no phone call from anyone, they just didn't show up and when I called I was told the main worker called in sick but no one thought to call me. What was supposed to take a week dragged out to close to 3 weeks because at one point they sent the workers to another job. The "project manager" Hind, didn't show up at all during the install, despite telling me she'd be here frequently to check how things were going, I saw her once, at the end. Then they sent me a "final bill" and once that was paid, they sent me another "final bill" and when I asked what it was for they just kept emailing the invoice. Finally, they said I had not paid for the actual stove which ended up being a blessing in disguise. Why? Because they sold me a stove that I can not get logs for - standard sized logs are 16" and the stove they sold me only takes 12". When I called around the city to find 12" logs no one cuts them that size and finally one of the vendors told me that it is very expensive to alter their equipment and since so few people need non-standard sized logs they don't cut them and that is why I can't find them. Maybe someone, somewhere would do it but I'm guessing at twice the price. So, I told Christine and Hind at Priddy to come and get the stove because I wasn't going to pay for a stove that I either needed to use a chop saw to cut the logs or hire someone else to do it - not an easy or cost effective solution. I've never owned a wood stove so I relied on these over-priced "experts" for information and guidance and they should have explained, when they RECOMMENDED this wood stove, that I would not be able to use standard logs for it and I would not have bought it. In fact, it was actually the ONLY stove they recommended so it's not as if I would have noticed the specs and asked, why does this one say 12" logs and this one 16"? When I sent them an email telling them about this problem, I didn't get an apology or even an immediate call back, in fact the first call back I received after I sent my email was about 2 weeks later and when I told her I was right in the middle of a meeting and to call back, it took her another 3 weeks to call me again. When she did, again no apology for what they'd done, just a demand that I pay for the stove and when I said come and get it she responded with, "it doesn't work that way." Okay well don't come and get it but I'm not paying for it. Maybe in her world, it doesn't work like that but in my world when you are sold a product that is unusable or when you are not satisfied with a service you don't pay, you send it back and you never use that company or service again. read more

I had to have some work done to the chimney in order to get a new water heater in my home. Priddy quoted me for a reasonable price and was out the same week to do the work. The work was done in 2-3 hours and examining the handiwork afterwards, they did a great job. This might not be the best detail review, but besides the great work they did on my chimney and the pipe inside my basement, was the professionalism by the staff especially Christina, and that they let me ask a million questions, before the work was done and even during. And they even followed up with me after the work was done to make sure I was satisfy with the work that was done (I am) and to double check if I had any other questions, since this is the first major home improvement work I am doing for my house. read more

During maintenance on a fireplace in my apartment, it was discovered that the old prefab fireplace insert was rusted on the interior walls and the entire fireplace and stovepipes going up had to be replaced. My landlord, who lives upstairs hired Priddy to do the job. Keep in mind that this was a pretty expensive job which required cutting out drywall, removing and installing the new insert and all the fittings to the 3rd floor roof. Priddy said this would take 2 days. They started on January 3rd. They didn't order enough of the chimney pipe, first sign of their stupidity. They returned for the 4th visit 2 weeks later to finish the wall. The mantle was not secured to the wall and could be easily moved but they said that was normal and were going to finish it that way. We had to instruct their guys how to create some shimmies and make it stable which they did. They plastered the wall and left - for a week. When they came back, they did a light sanding over the bad plastering job and started painting expecting it to go unnoticed that the plaster work was horrible. When called out, they said it was ok. Called my landlord down who told them they needed to fix the wall properly. Last week, they were a no show. Today, again a no show! This is 5 times I've taken everything off walls, reorganized furniture only to have them no show again. We're bringing in another contractor to finish the job. These people are just terrible, they do terribly sloppy work and they don't do what they promise they will do. Avoid these idiots, as they truly are idiots. read more

This review involves two vendors Mayes Plumbing and Priddy. Mayes plumbing was assigned to replace the hot water heater at my rental property. When the plumber came out they informed me that I would need to have a chimney company come out to confirm that the chimney was up to code. I had never experienced something like this before, but they alleged that there were some new building code requirements and before replacing the heater they would have to get a confirmation that everything was good with the chimney. Conveniently they suggested that I contact Priddy Chimney Sweeps and provide a discount code for them to take a look at the chimney. I thought this whole thing was strange since I've had water heaters replaced at other properties without the involvement of chimney companies, but I didn't have time to confirm whether their allegation that this was a new code requirement was true. I contact Priddy and they inform me that I should send them pictures so they can diagnose whether the chimney is up to code. This seemed unusual since most chimney companies I have worked with in the past physically come to the property. They don't attempt to diagnose a problem via photos. However, I had the tenant take a ton of pictures that I forwarded via text to Priddy over the course of two days. Once they received the desired photo angle I was informed that all of this work would need to be done to the tune of $2200 (with the discount code) before Mayes could install the heater. Imagine my shock when I receive this estimate. My suspicion grew even more and I am concerned that these folks are trying to scam me. At this point, I do what I should have done in the first place and send a chimney company that We have used before to the property to take a look. Low and behold, the second chimney company says the chimney is up to code and properly lined and only charges me $195. After I receive this information I call Mayes back to register my frustration and concern regarding this entire situation. The supervisor I spoke to tells me that Mayes will not accept the confirmation of the chimney company that I used because they didn't give them a proper invoice with pictures!! She went on to tell me that Priddy provides pictures (the picture my tenant took!!!) and a detailed description of the work that they will perform. So unless she was able to talk to my chimney company to confirm that the chimney was up to code they wouldn't proceed. Keep in mind, it's been at least a week that the tenant has been without hot water, so this further delay is extremely frustrating. At this point, I decide to call my warranty company and report Mayes and ask that another company be assigned. As a result, the hot water heater was replaced the next day without incident by another company. I'm still pissed that I had to pay $195 for something that was a non-factor, but imagine if I had gone along with their scheme with Priddy Chimney Sweeps! I would be out over $2200!! Proceed with extreme caution with Mayes and Priddy because something is not right here!! read more

My problem was resolved. Hooray!!! Giovanni is the tech that resolve my issue. Thanks a bunch. We love using our fireplace without getting backdrafts of smoke in the basement. Ask for him by name if you want a quality job out of the Bethesda office. Story The problem was diagnosed as poor drafting. The Giovanni demonstrated the issue by lighting a piece of notebook paper and placing the burning end near the opening of the furnace flue. He explained that the smoke should be drawn up the pipe. He then disconnected the furnace exhaust and repeated test near the end of the stainless steel liner installed by the first technician. Same result. One quick inspection of the top cap and he had a plan. Remove the entire liner and all the insulation. Install new liner, insert a T-connector at the bottom and connect the T to the furnace exhaust. He candidly stated that the previous installer did not do the right thing. Poor workmanship caused the issue and a quality job could have resolved my problem. After the reinstall, Giovanni repeated the draft test with the burning piece of paper. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. After the T-connector was installed, the stainless steel liner draft was strong and consistent. Fire, ash and smoke were pull up the pipe. After every thing was buttoned up, Giovanni asked that we start a fire in the fireplace. Then, he waited for 1.5 hours while the fire burned. He would check back every 20 minutes to gauge the progress, but then he would just sit in his truck. Eventually we all (Giovanni, his assistant, me, my wife and family) declared success. Giovanni, Thank you. It seems like a small think. Most homes do not even have a fireplace. I am just happy our operates safely. read more

I was very surprised at the shoddy work done on our chimney. It has 3 colors of mortar and caulk( shot out of a tube that looked like a caulk tube). I wasn't shown a color match chart until a 1 year and a month and 6 working appointments later. What was written down on invoice was not done. Instead of a commercial high powered 35' hose cleaner being used, the company used a compact canister vacuum with a 5' hose to clean a chimney that had a 35' liner. The job was done in 2016 and the original cap was missing since 2014. So common sense would tell you that debris had accumulated in the chimney. The A/C unit was knocked off the platform that it was balanced on by the company which crimped the Puron supply line. And nothing was used to protect the top of the condenser until the 6th visit. We filed a claim and the Insurance Adjuster,John Holl stated that the company's policy allowed them to do defective, incomplete, and faulty work. Yet Mr Holl won't send us a copy of the commercial policy coverage. Mr Holl stated that I have to straighten any problems or refunds with the Mgr Ms Hind. This company saved my life! I'm really grateful for the help they did in rebuilding my chimney. Thomas was the master mason who worked on my order and he was so polite and informative on the process and what needed to be done. The company stuck to their quote and their policies of making sure that the work was going to be amazing and done timely. They had to tear down my old chimney completely and restart from new. In doing that new problems and issues came to light and they fixed what was needed to make sure the rebuilt chimney would be done properly and magnificently all without skipping a beat. Priddy Clean called my cell phone (which I cannot access at work) at 11:24am and asked if they could stop by early. When I returned home at 3:30pm (after leaving work early) and was able to return their call they told me that since I was not available at 11:24am when they called, FOUR HOURS EARLIER THAN MY SCHEDULED TIME, that their technician would not be able to make my scheduled appointment. This is an integrity violation. Priddy Clean made a pact with me, a pact for Friday at 3:30pm, they violated that pact, in essence, they lied. This business has zero integrity and I recommend anyone reading this go elsewhere. I hired these guys to come out and clean my chimney which at the end of the job the tech said that a house with out a fireplace or a oil furnace didn't really need it but since I did the job I owe $150 so I paid , As I am standing outside I happen to see that the company does other work besides just chimneys they do stone work , I had ask them to give me a estimate on pulling out a old exhaust fan and a window and filling it up with bricks ...The tech said $500 i said great when can we have this done he said as soon as tomorrow ..the office calls me and says we can set you up for 9am I said fine see you then . then I get a phone call saying that we can come out today I said perfect they should arrive around 2pm so I took the day off work to wait , they then call me again and said that there is a thunderstorm coming we can not come out today we will be there in the morning i said I understand and said ok see you in the morning , morning comes and then i get the phone call that they are looking at different stores to match the brick 12 pm comes by and I get a call from the manager and said they cant find the brick to match but they will get back to me shortly never received a call I call around 4pm and asked for the manager she comes back on the phone and said they just found the brick and that they dont think they could come today maybe on Saturday at 9pm ..( so my question was how would of they came yesterday and did the work if there were no thunderstorm if they didnt have the brick , two days wasted ... I had Priddy Clean out to clean the chimney since we had just moved into a house and we didn't know the status of the chimney. The techs were quick and efficient, no complaints there. After the cleaning they tried to tell me that the chimney needed to be relined for $2500 due to safety reasons. I even received a 2.5 page letter after the visit reiterating why I needed the liner. I called another company to double check and Priddy Clean turned out to be wrong. There was one small area that needed attention and not the whole liner replaced. I won't be having Priddy Clean out to clean or repair my fireplace since they broke my confidence in them. read more

I hate to pile on but the other reviewers are right. They seem shady because when I called to have my chimney swept they canceled twice due to 'people calling in sick'. Finally arranged a time for someone to come over. They came in with a vacuum and I went to go walk the dog. I was gone for no more than 10 mins. They were waiting for me when I got back because they had already finished. The guy explained to me that I had a hairline fracture in my back wall of my and I needed to get the back wall and floor of fireplace replaced for $650. I called my buddy that builds houses in Bethesda and he told me this is not true. There is a metal shaft behind the cosmetic wall and the crack doesn't matter. BTW: the 10 minute cleaning was $210. Avoid these dishonest people at all costs. They have: 1) broken the ridge vent on my roof 2) broken the outside water line/pipe twice. 3) never fixed the inital issue they were hired for (reline and fix smoke) What I asked them to do, paid them to do and what was never completed: -repair outside water line -install smoke guards in both smoke boxes -reline of both flues (inspection showed some issues with where there were fires inside the flue) -installation of the proper flue liner insulation (tech mentioned they need to use a different insulation when installing the flue liners) -installation of different, better sealing top dampers on both fireplaces (these dampers should seal better and keep rodents out as well as keeping smoke out) -seal around chimney flashing -seal outside bricks from leaking -fix issue of smoke entering house whenever there is a fire in the fireplace Now the ridge vent is also broken and needs to be replaced. I will be contacting the better business bureau since you all have not responded to any of my last emails about it. read more

Avoid these guys like the plague. They came to my house to provide an estimate for installing exhaust pipes for my water heaters that met code. The two fellows that visited were a bit rude and I felt disrespectful. They didn't seem to know what the code was. They performed a cursory inspection inside and took some photos. They then said they needed to go outside to look at the chimney to finish the assessment for the estimate. They sat in their truck for 15 minutes and did nothing and then came in to give me a verbal estimate. Now the company wants $109 for a Level 2 Safety Inspection (???) inside, outside and rooftop. Are you kidding me? Two other firms came out and actually performed an inspection and went up to the roof to examine it. They both provided an estimate and there was no charge in either case. Not Professional at all!!! 1. They give me one estimated on the phone and want to charge me more after they want to finish the work!!!! 2. Left foots prints all around my family room, my kitchen till my foyer area. My Kitchen is white tile turn black. I have to mops my floors all around several times. 3. 5 stars for excellent customer service. Leigh in the office was great and had their crew to us first thing to remedy an issue with our dryer vent hook up since they had a crew clean our vent earlier in the year. They called that they were on the way and made the quick repair and assured me it was remedied and were on their way. Again, Leigh couldn't have been nicer and more customer focused. Other service businesses need more people like her scheduling and handling customer service requests. read more
