The food at prime was very good, for the prices they should work on the atmosphere more. The atmosphere is pretty much your local hangout with pictures on the walls of staff yet you're eating a filet and seafood for a nice amount of money. We ordered the 48oz tomahawk special medium rare, from the chef table, came out seared on the outside, rare/cold in the middle. We told them the steak was rare and the chef agreed, while making an excuse why it wasn't cooked right. He put the steak in the broiler and it came back medium well and we were unable to finish the steak. We told the server we didn't want it because it was over cooked. Not one thing was done, not once did the server ask if we wanted a new dish. A recommendation to the chef, do not have your face planted into your cell phone while cooking for your guests in the dining room. Prime 13, if you can classify as a high end steak restaurant, you should have employees/chefs who care about your guests and be able to cook a steak properly. read more

My wife and I had a horrible experience here. To keep it short: The hostess was extremely rude. When we insisted our inside reservation be honored we were told "We don't rush guests. Why don't you do in there and tell them to leave!" When the owner came out he repeated the not rushing guests line but at least he managed to make a table inside. The wait staff is horrible. They stare into space and all appear to rather be anywhere else than at work. From the time we sat down to the time we left our waiter came over twice. Once to hand out menus and once to take the order. We were there over an hour and all we had been served was bread and salad. We paid for what we ate and left. The only reason this restaurant is getting one star from me is because the food was pretty good. However, the "manager/host", whom was wearing rhinestone flip-flops and jean capris in this "fine-dining" establishment, was beyond rude. Let me start off by saying that our reservation was at 7:30pm. We actually wanted an earlier reservation, however they were "booked". When we arrived at 7:27pm, there were only 3 tables in the restaurant. We sat down to eat and we ordered pretty much right away. We ordered a good amount of food for the two of us, and it came out pretty slowly, did not feel rushed at all. (We were even waiting for our second course). As we were finished with our entrees and waiting on our server for dessert menus, the manager turned the lights on, the heat off, put the chairs up on the empty tables AND closed the blinds. There were still 2 other tables eating their food. At this time, brace yourselves, it was 8:30 pm. Only ONE HOUR had passed from our reservation. I asked the nice server if we should get our desserts to-go because it seemed as if we were getting kicked out, and she said "No no take your time" So we got our desserts, took one bite, and the host/"manager" glared at us as we ate. At this point, I asked her for the check as we were clearly unwanted. This was the worst experience, a shame, considering it was my first. I will NOT be returning. read more

My husband's cowboy steak was cooked perfectly. I had a 10 ounce lobster tail also cooked to perfection. First thing I notice are the blue painted walls and the loud conversation throughout the room due to closely placed tables and no walls to absorb the the noise. We sat facing the open kitchen grill. A good experience for our first time visit to Prime 13 steakhouse. I do, however, question the interior design and layout of the restaurant, as I walked into the establishment, a fancy name with elegant graphics for logos and a higher class exterior was met by a square room with random blue walls, an unnecessary view of the kitchen, and mounted tvs on each side, making the atmosphere seem more like a sports bar, than a steakhouse. But my wife and I were willing to look past these blemishes. Another odd experience was their "ceasar salad" upgrade, which was not necessarily an upgrade in my book. For some reason, the get the need to cut a head of romain in half, char it on the grill, and throw flakes of Parmesan on top and call it a salad. It tasted like I was eating a hand full of cigarette butts. Again, my wife and I were willing to look past this. A last, we were greeted with our meals. My wife chose the lamb, I went for the surf and turf. They were both delicious! Besides the few blemishes to begin with, we walked out very happy customers, would return again! I went here with my parents and a few extended family members for a birthday celebration. The food was pretty good. However, the service was strange to the point where I don't believe we'll return. The host or manager (it was never quite clear), came to the table several times and acted overly friendly to the point of almost intrusive. We noticed that while he was talking to us, he stuck his hands behind him. While at first it looked as though his hands were in his pants pockets, it became clear that he actually stuck his hands inside his pants waistband. Whether his fingers were touching his undergarments or his bare skin, it was still very unsettling. Do not waste your time or money. Where do we start? 1. Arrived early to drop off wine. The waiter showed me our table near a wall. I asked if we could have the window next to it. He said no, they were booked solid. Both were empty at the time. Nobody sat in the table we asked for the whole time we were there. 2. After getting a drink across the street, we got seated at the table next to the one he originally showed me, by the manager/host, who was dressed like he just finished his shift manning carnival rides. The table was clearly not part of the original plan as wait staff repeatedly squeezed by us and after realizing no one else had a tablecloth, I pulled it up to see we were sitting at a plastic folding card table. 3. We were ready to order for 10 minutes before the server came. After finishing our water, it took 5 minutes to get anyone's attention for a refill and at least another 5 to actually get it (only water refill of the night) 4. We got the bacon which, at $14, was twice as expensive as the finest NYC steakhouse and it was no more than a half serving. After telling the waitress only bacon, no sauce or onions, it came with both. The worst part of this is, and I never thought I'd say this about bacon, it was completely devoid of flavor. 5. Steaks- again, asked for steak with nothing on the plate because of a vinegar allergy, edge of the steak was sitting in the sauce. That's twice she acknowledged and then ignored instructions. Full disclosure - the steak, fries and onion rings tasted good. 6. Fruit flies - 1 to start the night was a bit annoying, 3 to end it was disgusting. 7. The tables are small and to close, it's noisy and the TVs looked out of place hanging in front of the open kitchen. With all that said I decided to give it a chance. Wrong decision. The waiter described the oysters to me in detail then cut himself short and said "oh wait that's right we're out of them " The colossal shrimp cocktail was overcooked and rubbery. This is a stretch at three stars, but points are added due to being the only one around (byob steakhouse). We eagerly went with 4 other couples on a Saturday night to celebrate an anniversary, with multiple bottles of scotch and wine- hoping for a great steak place. Unfortunately, it fell sadly short. In addition to other small and annoying things, these were the 4 major issues we had. 1. The lobster mac-n-cheese was rancid (literally). We ordered 2 sides for the table and on our first bite realized something was wrong...the waiter then tasted it himself and spit it out. He told us "it's not usually like this". We were offered free desserts and an apology. 2. The servers came out with our meals and literally said, "who's is this" for the only order of salmon at the table, and then proceeded to auction all of the steaks in a similar manner. Any half way decent restaurant should never "auction" food...know what position at the table it goes to before leaving the kitchen. 3. Upon ordering dessert we were told that they had previously been made in-house but the owner didn't want to pay a pastry chef so they no longer were...but they had still run out of 3 items. 4. When the check came, no adjustment had been made (as promised) for the inedible lobster-mac. We paid as it was presented, and thoroughly frustrated. The actual quality of the steaks was pretty good, but nothing that I haven't experienced and any given restaurant that has steak as a menu item. "A" for concept and "C" for execution. Four of us dined on a Sunday night early at 5:30. Never having dined there we decided on seafood. I had the Sea Scallops on risotto and my wife got the shrimp and scallop fra diavolo. Coincidentally the couple we were with got the same dinners. The salad was good as well as the service. The entreés were so so. My scallops on risotto came out cold as well as my dining partner's. No excuse for this as the restaurant only had maybe three other tables to serve. My wife's fra diavolo was ok but the linguine it was served over was way too overdone. Went this past Saturday night. Very loud and busy. We decided to order the 18oz lobster tail only to be told they were out of them. The waitress suggested a steak with the regular size lobster. We brought good friends (their birthday, too) and bragged about it from the last time we were there, but it paled in comparison. It was very tasty but loaded with HUGE chunks of fat! The first time we were there I wasn't overly impressed with the quality of the meat and thought perhaps it was just me because I hear a lot of rave reviews about this restaurant. Our second visit was exactly the same. The ribeye was good, but not high-quality, and the filet mignon did not cut like butter. It was like what I buy at ShopRite. Are they USDA quality cuts of meat like they say? I ordered the foie gras. It was duck liver not goose liver. That's false advertising. We ordered sauces with our steaks and did not know they charged one dollar for each. This is not mentioned on the menu. My salad was sweet. Really sweet, like I was eating dessert. I think the chef is wonderful and has a really good heart and loves his kitchen. Service is good but not over-the-top. We did find it a little hard to enjoy the antics of our host. All in all this is a nice little place and good for the area but do feel that the quality of some of the food can be much improved. read more

I've never given any restaurant 5 stars before - and I debated on weather or not I should do it, because I'm a tough critic. However I had to do it here. This was the best meal I've had in as long I can remember. The pretzel bread was amazing, the cheese steak egg roll was phenomenal, and the tomahawk steak rivaled the one I had at Ruth Chris. Even the espresso was above average!! The crema was very strong - as a self proclaimed espresso aficionado, I enjoy a good coffee. This espresso was an 9/10. We also got the cannoli tacos, which were just as amazing as any of the rest of the meal. The service was also incredible & we sat at the chefs table, where the owner Gerrard introduced himself to us, and we were given free sample of their thick cut bacon. Appetizers - P13 Bacon, Cheesesteak Eggrolls, Shrimp Pow Pow, Calamari, "Down Neck" Shrimp Chorizo and scallops all need to be ordered. For the main course, I've had every meat selection at least once but the staples are the Rack of Lamb, Delmonico and Veal Rack Chop. For the instagram post order the tomahawk to show everyone how you just finished 40 oz steak by yourself (even though you know you didn't). Have to find out about the spice rub that goes on the steaks. Don't know what it is but it's magical. You even walk out of the place smelling like it. We've dined at Prime 13 a few times and we love it. Most recently was this past weekend and they didn't disappoint. To start, we split their signature tuna tacos and an order of house cured bacon. Both were dang tasty and the perfect size for an appetizer. The speed at which they arrived after ordering was perfect. For entrees, she had the petite filet, I had the bone-in strip and we split the cheddar and gouda mac-n-cheese. Steaks were cooked perfectly. The wood fire definitely imparts a nice flavor to meat. The only complaint about the mac-n-cheese was that there wasn't more of it! We begrudgingly skipped dessert and got out of there in just about 65 minutes. We weren't rushed at all and felt the pace of the meals was spot on. To me, the prices are quite reasonable. The cheaper you get in terms of steak, the lower the quality. What an amazing place! Everything is beyond perfect from the decor to the servers to the food and beyond! So first off it BYOB, so come prepared. We had an amazing server who's name was Pete. He explained the whole theme of Prime 13 and the menu. Our busboy was Ryan (He looked like a mix of Sean Penn and Robert De Niro). Their pretzel bread with coarse dark mustard is a refreshing change from the usual bread basket. Their menu is expansive with so much to choose from, there is obviously lots of steak and beef choices but also seafood. We had the Angry Octopus for an appetizer which was amazing. Then we chose the Prime Rib which was delicious, cooked to perfection. It was accompanied by whipped potatoes and charred asparagus. Also it came with au jus and horseradish sauce. They were very accommodating, and it had a nice vibe with the open kitchen and wood-fired grill. Server was knowledgeable and steered us in the right direction on what to order. I honestly thought this place would be the best steakhouse I ever went to based on the reviews it got, but I was not impressed. First off, it was super cramped when we got in and I had to wait 15 minutes for a table despite having a reservation. The host was really nice though and I could tell he was trying to balance the sudden crowd around the door. Once we sat down, we didn't get any type of service for at least 10 minutes. When our waitress came by, she opened our wine bottle (it's BYOB which is great) but made no conversation with us which made it incredibly awkward. i think it was because they were really busy, but the service was super slow, and I had to remind the waitress to bring us our waters twice. They were still very nice but I wished they were more attentive. The food itself was decent. We started off with their cheesesteak egg rolls which were amazing, and I wished I ordered more. I got the petit filet with the lobster tail which was a little too charred for my taste, but the lobster tail was pretty good. For the price, I expected it to be a little more upscale rather than backyard BBQ. My boyfriend thought his steak was a little too charred too, but we both agreed the flavoring was good. Later on the owner stopped by and immediately offered to recook it for us, but since their service was so slow, I really didn't want to wait. Overall, I would say this was a mediocre dinner and this would not be the first restaurant I recommend. Their food was alright, but their service just didn't cut it for me. It was crowded, and social distancing was completely irrelevant because the tables were practically on top of each other. The manager unnecessarily came over to our table and stood incredibly close, with no mask, breathing on us, all to ask us how our meal was when we had just been seated and only had water. Because there is a virus going around, unnecessary flaws like having more and more exposure to people is very dangerous and is something any good restaurant would try to avoid. Besides that, my steak was under cooked. I asked for a medium and they practically gave me a rare. They also switched the steaks up between me and my other guests. Though I don't think there was over 25 people outside under their tent, they were all pretty close together. Inside, there was a large gathering of people dining while we waited to be seated. I am editing my previous 1 star review - I went there last night and had an amazing experience. Food was just... incredible. The chorizo and sausage app was amazing, as was my filet. I will own the fact that I waited till the last week to call and make a reservation.. I should have done it earlier- but it stated it was valid until March 31st. When I called early last week I was told that nothing was available for the entire week, but the the restaurant was honoring the Groupon for one extra week due to high demand (which I very much appreciated). The man I spoke to told me that all he had available were 5 pm reservations (not feasible as I work till 5). Then he said he could put my party of 3 at the Chef's table at 7pm this Thursday. I thanked him, and asked if I could call back in 5 minutes to confirm. (Wanted to make sure that type of seating was ok with my parents). He said "of course". They were all for it, so I called right back. 4 times. In a half hour. No one ever answered so I finally left a message stating my name, and saying that we would take the 7pm reservation at the Chef's table. I left my contact details and asked for a call back to confirm. I got no call. I have called pretty much every day since, during operating hours, to try and confirm- always getting a machine or a busy signal. I finally got a human on the phone tonite, and while he was very nice and courteous, he said there was no record of my reservation. I could tell by the background noise that it was very busy, so when he asked me to call back in half an hour to try and figure it out. I said sure. I waited until 9 (about 45 min later) to ensure that he would be able to give me his attention. I have called 3 times in the past 20 minutes and have gotten an answering machine every time. While I realize Prime 13's hours are 5-9pm, I find it hard to believe that no one is there to pick up the phone a little bit past 9. Very disappointed. Not to mention annoyed at having thrown away $25 since the full value of the Groupon won't be honored after this week. Going to contact Groupon and see if I can get a full refund.
