Just had the Korean bbq option and it was fantastic. Matthew our server and chef helped us cook the meat and he was so friendly and fun and the meat was delicious. The bonchons were extremely high quality and the steamed egg was so good. We are picky and often go to COTE in nyc and Miami and this may just have been better than it (the kimchi had better flavor and egg texture was better). Expensive but worth it in our opinion for the experience and quality of the food. Also the rice is extremely high quality too. We are picky and this restaurant is very good. Wow, where do I even begin? The food, ambiance and staff were truly unmatched. My wife and I actully met in New York so for Houston to have a place that reminds us of that time in our lives was really special. From the moment you step in the restaurant you are made to feel like you welcomed and that there's an appreciation for you being there. The waiter, Tim, was exceptional. He answered all of are questions confidently and didn't steer us wrong with any recommendations. The support staff was prompt and knowledgeable as well. Day 5 of a restaurant opening is usually a lesson in patience and understanding, and disappointment. NOT at Prime 131!!! Everything was off the chart PERFECT! The hostess was warm and friendly with a sit wherever you like attitude. Appetizers of Sheseido peppers, sourdough bread and tuna tartar were amazingly better than anywhere in Houston. The steak was cooked to perfection, the broccolini had the perfect spice and crunch. Good drinks and the cheesecake was an extra special delight at end of meal. Giving this a 10 as nothing could have been approved on. Wait staff super attentive, knowledgeable and very professional. Definitely will be back!!! read more

The menu options were all so good so we decided to all try different things and share and that was the best thing so we were able taste more menu offerings! Their espresso mexitini was bomb! Our server submitted a menu item that we did not request. We ordered. PorterHouse for 2 but the server put in an Australian Wagyu Tomahawk instead. We asked to speak with the manager Richard who dismissed us as if he couldn't be bothered. Richard became combative when I asked if he could explain why the server selected that item instead of what we requested. He told us well let me see what I can do. I explained that I'm not here for charity, I just want to pay for what I requested. I've never experienced such disrespect. What started as a wonderful experience became the worst experience and I will not return. The sever came to the table and apologized, then I had to ask him to resend Richard to finalize our conversation because he never returned after waiting 15 minutes and watching him touch various tables. Finally Richard came to the table and told us he thought we were just going to pay since I didn't want Charity! I told him that's correct I want the check to reflect what I ordered, again this man walked away then came back to tell me in the future the server need to repeat orders so this doesn't happen again... that's great maybe he should of done this training from the time they hired staff. Came here with my husband to celebrate our anniversary. We were immediately seated in a booth, as requested. John was our waiter and he was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and provided great recommendations on drinks and food. We started off with shishito peppers and tuna tartare. Shishito peppers were good, you can't go wrong. The tuna tartare was great! It was refreshing with the perfect balance of avocado and citrus. Next we ordered the chefs 5 choice nigiri. The chef choice nigiri is $35 but you get premium nigiri for a great deal. I really enjoyed the hamachi, Scottish salmon , chutoto. We also ordered the crunchy spicy tuna roll. It was probably one of the best things we had. I highly recommend that roll. For our entree we ordered the wagyu skirt steak with ricotta mac and cheese and french fries. We were hesitant to order the wagyu skirt steak since we prefer filet but the skirt steak was phenomenal!! It was flavorful, juicy, tender and cooked to the perfect temperature. We were blown away. The mac and cheese and fries were also amazing. We took John's suggestion of dipping the fries in the mac and cheese...sooo good! For dessert we got a complimentary tart for our anniversary and the 131 skillet fudge. Both were great! We really enjoyed the extensive cocktail and wine menu along with the food. Delicious appetizers and entrees. We got the grilled sourdough and fried shishito peppers, and both were fantastic-- would highly recommend. The noodle soup was also absolutely perfect-- amazing flavors and heat! The sides were slightly basic; I was just expecting a little bit more from them in comparison to our appetizers and entrees (we got the fries and asparagus). The service was great as well. It was our anniversary, and we received a handwritten card and flutes of champagne! I personally enjoyed the ambiance; I think they leaned well into the modern-but-not-too-modern feel. All you can smell as you enter is the wood fire burning, which was also incredibly cozy and welcoming. Overall, we loved this place and will definitely be going back. Prime 131 is part of the Berg Hospitality group, much attention has been placed on making this restaurant a stand out. The menu offers a steak and sushi, an Asian food fusion vibe with steaks sourced in Australia, America, or Japanese Wagyu. This gem also offers a Korean BBQ menu, what a vision and experience in menu options at a high quality! I have to mention that they are cooking over a wood fire grill as well, so the food is very flavorful. There is basically something on the menu for everyone, you can even order a burger! The atmosphere is amazing, dimly lit, chic, and pretty with a great bar, and this place is wonderful for a date night or outing with friends. I do think it's more adult oriented or for older kids in your group. I have gone twice, the first time I had the miso cod and the second time I had a steak. Both dishes were really good, I had to make myself order the steak because the miso cod was so delicious the first time I went. One of my friends had the short rib and that looked amazing, another had the bone marrow and loved that as well! Drinks were top notch, I'll be back! read more

I've never done a review before, but based on the limited reviews of this place, I feel compelled to leave my thoughts. I was really hoping to love it based on all of the other reviews, but sadly it felt like it was the jack of all trades but master of none. To start off, upon entering, we were ushered into the valet parking line by the attendant, even though there were plenty of none valet spaces available. It was $8 to valet and the valet stand was set up further away from the restaurant door than where we would have parked if we had just self parked. That put a bad taste in my mouth to start. When we arrived we were promptly shown to our table and given drink menus. We ordered our drinks and then our waiter basically dissapeared until we were about halfway through our meal (very odd). The cocktails were fine. Definitely overpriced for what they were, but you expect that in a place like this. After about ten minutes of sitting there waiting, someone else finally came over to take our order, although she made it very clear that she was not our waiter. The food all came out quickly. We ordered the following; Hamachi crudo - fine. No better or worse than what you would get at a fine sushi restaurant. Ponzu oysters - fine. Hard to screw up decent oysters. Parker rolls - fine. I've had better, and I've had worse. Bone marrow - bad. The bone marrow was topped with over cooked short rib and the mixture ended up being about 90 percent short rib to 10 percent marrow. You couldn't taste the marrow, which I was super sad about because I absolutely love bone marrow. Steak - terrible. We ordered the 18 oz ribeye. When it arrived, the anounced it as the "Wagyu." As someone who has been to Japan and had real wagyu, the American stuff is nothing more than a marketing ploy. We were both very confused because the steak that arrived did not look like a ribeye. It was very thin, didn't look close to 18 oz, and didn't have a cap. I should have asked whether we had been given the right steak, but as our waiter (who was now back in the picture) didn't take our order, it felt a little odd to ask him. The steak itself was pretty much inedible. It was actually cooked to a nice medium rare, but the outside was burnt to a crisp. It wasn't charred, it was burnt. I sat there thinking that this was insane for a $145 steak. The asparagus was good and the potatoes were fine (needed more salt). The truffle butter did not taste like truffle. We only ate a few bites of the steak and then declared ourselves done. Our waiter boxed up the food and gave us the dessert menu. Based on the experience so far, we decided to skip dessert and asked for the check. When the check came, we realized they gave us the strip loin instead of the ribeye. I suppose this makes a little more sense, and at least it was only a $76 terrible steak versus a $145 terrible steak, but that's not a mixup that should be happening at this price point. Again, I probably should have asked when the steak arrived, but I thought they just cut it funny trying to make it seem like a Japanese wagyu when it was not. Taste wise, it was so burnt, it wouldn't have mattered. Definitely not worth $300. There are so many better places in Houston to eat. Skip this place. read more

Ok. To keep this from sounding like a paid advertisement, or review, I'm going to tell you what we ordered and how the service was! First of all, this place has been open FIVE DAYS! You know what that means! Working out the kinks. So don't set your expectations too high. Boy were we wrong!!! Amazing!!! We started with 2 apps - the shishito peppers that were OUT OF THIS WORLD! I always try them at any rest if they serve them. These were the best I've had! We ordered the grilled sour dough too. I swear they must be buying their bread from Angela's Oven. Soooo good! (Don't know where they get their bread or if they bake their own). Then...the steaks....O!M!G! The steaks!!! My friend ordered the American filet and I ordered the bone in filet. Yes. I said "that's an oxymoron isn't it?!?" Our very knowledgeable and very friendly waiter explained that actually it isn't because the filet is attached to one of the bones in the cow blah blah blah. I was trying to be funny. Clearly I didn't read the room. Anywho, BEST FREAKING STEAKS!!!! WOW WOW WOW!!!! Ordered the grilled broccolini with it. Nearly licked the damn plate! I've tried like hell to make that yummy veggie! Always over cooked. Theirs was freaking fantastic! So of course we had cocktails with dinner. Wine was delish! My friend had a few tequila drinks. We loved those too! And then the coup de grace we ordered the cheese cake for dessert. Split it of course...watching our waistlines They brought this thing out with a dome over it, full of smoke. I kid you not!! I would say the presentation was the best part, but it was only until we took a bite of that cheese cake. Holy smokes (pun intended) it was melt in your mouth delish!!! Now for the bad news - it not a LITTLE pricey. It's just down right expensive! But baby, it was worth every single dollar! If you've got the money, you won't be disappointed!!! Too many expensive restaurants I've walked out thinking "that was not worth half that price, much less what I spent!" But not here!!! We enjoyed every single bite!!! And the service was over the top!!! And if you live near it, all the better!!! Right? Highly recommend it. We walked around the place after we finished. The sushi bar (yes, a separate sushi bar just behind the front bar) looks amazing. Next time we are going to belly up there and try the sushi. Although we saw some guys eating sushi in the front bar. Extremely over-priced and quality and portion sizes disappointing. Made Reservations for my wife's retirement. Moved location 3 times, bars by open flames hot and smokey, bar in front sun blinds you if you're going to be there before nightfall. By the same token realized that we were eating in what was an abandoned warehouse 12 months ago. Crab cakes - The size of a quarter and pretty bland Sushi - Quality just okay, you can find several places much better for less. Steak - Order 5 oz Wagyu Filet ($450) was tough, maybe a 1/4 inch in thickness but most disappointing they served it cut up like fajitas. Who does that to a $400+ steak???? Anyone? Anyone? Tried to send it back but was told we had eaten 36% of the steak. I forgot to bring my food scale! Mgr, clearly not used to high end fine dining gave us explanation that steak was cut for our safety to determine if it was cooked properly. Forgot to bring my meat thermometer! Round and round still ended up being charged for it. Prime 131 should leave the Prime steaks to the big boys and stick to a simpler menu. Drinks- Yeah loved our bartender who was a dog lover and wine list that included Far Niente, (my wife's fav chard) Cocktails start in the $20's so are pretty expensive even for the Heights, but I can live with that. Asked for special dessert at end of meal, they couldn't pull it off. Closes at 10 but I guess kitchen closes at 9. =( In conclusion, go for a couple drinks and laughs and then go to eat a fine meal somewhere elsewhere. Tab almost $700 as seen below and left starving. Servers and staff seemed on edge - like they've been yelled out a few too many times. - Despite a reservation at 8:45pm we were asked to wait 40 minutes before being sat at a table for four. Understandable to wait 5, maybe 15 but, 40 after week long confirmed reservations? No apologies offered, Wack. - Sat down and told it would be a few more minutes before a drink or dining menu would be given to us, because they "didn't have enough". When we did get one, we had to share one menu for a table of 4 before they could give a second one after 10 minutes. Do they not know how many seats they have? it wasn't opening week nor are you some new restaurateur. - Placed order for main with apps and starters for a table of 4. Totally get that good food takes time, but the timing between each course took extremely long, so by the time we got our checks the tables around us had been turned around twice, sat-ordered-served-closed-cleaned x2. - When closing out, waited 20 minutes between handing our cards and getting a reciept, when we were maybe 1 of 3 remaining tables at end of the night. For the prices this restaurant charges, you think they'd be able to bring a card reader to your table to close out, not walk around looking for a machine to use Food- Apps and Starters are fantastic (5/5)! The tables fab was the Chorizo & Avocado Salad , followed by the Smoked Veal Bacon and Bone Marrow. Mains and Sides - Table felt it was good steak but not worth the price - especially with the awful service (that was out of our server's control). Ordered medium-rare, amazingly cooked, but sides came out 5 minutes after everyone's mains -just awful timing. Cocktails - great, will go back for happy hour. Overall, left much to be expected (2/5). Appetizers were very good great selection and well balanced flavors. Main courses were a pretty good. The porterhouse was cooked well and the seasoned well with the added salt on the side was appreciated. The skirt steak was ok, cooked well, but seasoning was not my particular favorite. Burger was good, although after eating the steak it felt a bit lacking. Should have tried it first. The sides were half good, half ok. Creamed spinach & mashed potatoes were really good and seasoned The Mac and cheese was good & rich, but flavor was a bit lacking, possible from cheese choice. Asparagus was not very good. This review is 5 stars because the restaurant general manager Shawn Pyon was determined to deliver exquisite customer service in the face of a misfortunate mishap. At the start of the meal, an accidental spill happened and soy sauce splattered on my wife and close friend. The staff was immediately there attending to her and helping with the cleanup. They quickly moved us to another table, and Shawn stepped in assuring we were ok + making things right. Our waitress also did a great job of tending to our dining needs. Only downer besides the soy sauce was the Sommelier was very dry and seemed to lack empathy so that interaction in light of everything else was awkward. Still 5 stars thanks to Shawn. By the end of the evening, our decision to dine with them was evidently valued and we will return to Prime131. read more

New high-end concept by Berg Hospitality. Open wood fire, beef forward but full and interesting menu for fans of things other than beef. I can make a killer steak at home, so I was interested in other fare. I was my nephew so tried a few things. The fried shishito peppers w/ponzu dipping sauce. I really liked this combination of flavors, the sauce sets it off. Smoked clam chowder. Really delicious flavors. Rich, creamy, smokey and a touch of spice at the end that really works. It's fantastic. Grilled oysters in a coconut vinaigrette. The sauce is really good, but these are the smallest oysters I've ever seen. The oyster muscle was barely bigger than a pinky nail. As a result, you didn't really get an oyster flavor at all, just the sauce. We also had a couple of sushi rolls: Crunchy Spicy Tuna and Dragon Roll. Both of which were very good. Our bartender, Kara, was excellent and makes a mean whiskey sour. The cocktail menu is extensive. Wife and I went to Prime 131 last Saturday and had perhaps the best meal we've ever had during HRW. Decor is beautiful, service was impeccable and the meal was delicious. We started with the Tuna Roll and Dragon roll, entrees' included miso cod and Wagyu skirt steak and finished with Basque cheesecake and Black Forest Cake. All were full portions (not smaller because of HRW). The Berg Group has a winner with this restaurant concept. Came here for my birthday a few weeks ago and everything came out great. Porter house was cooked perfectly. Sushi was nice and fresh. Branzino was great as well! The Mac n cheese was excellent. Only thing that I wish would change was the amount of broccolini we were given. I wanted more. lol the mash was ok. Just not a truffle person but everyone else liked it. The staff was polite and on point with everything and floor managers were great explaining the history of the business and location as it used to be an old warehouse. The waiter was incompetent , he brought our food out for a party of 6 at all different time, did not bring one persons food out until we were all done eating. The food was of a large variety of options and versatile but impressed at every turn. The drinks were strong, and the cocktail menu was lengthy. Went back to Prime 131 for the second time in a week, hopeful that the amazing initial experience was not a fluke. It was not! The food was outstanding and the service (from Ray the first night, and from Gustavo the second) was over-the-top attentive, but not intrusive. Each steak we've had has been tender and flavorful, as was the cod. In fact, the food is so good that we had a discussion about how our expectations have been altered there. The only item that we've had that was not exceptional was the side dish of carrots. It wasn't that it was bad, it just wasn't on par with the other dishes and we are now expecting exceptional!
