Quit reading and get to eating! I should've reviewed after the first time but I was in a food coma and forgot. When I tell you that they've mastered bread here, I mean it. First visit was for my birthday and everything from the service to the food was phenomenal. I had a steak with salad, too many dinner rolls to count (and took some home) two frozen espresso martinis, and chocolate pie à la mode. I was too excited to eat my steak so there's no picture but if you're a steak girl like I am, you're gonna love it. I think all the meals come with a salad and it's the most down home southern loaded salad you could ask for. 10/10 I'm biased to an espresso martinis ALWAYS and this is one of my top places for it. Having it frozen is just such a treat. It's giving ice cream. The next visit was for brunch and it did NIT disappoint. Started with a cast iron cinnamon roll that was to die for. Don't be fooled like I was with the icing situation, there's extra at the bottom and it's the right ratio of bread to icing. It's perfectly rich without being too sweet. Then I got the biscuits and bacon gravy with an over medium fried egg. The biscuits were sooooo fluffy but crispy in the edges even after being covered in gravy. I need to know what special things they're doing to the bread products because they're so so so so superior. Top it off with incredibly kind servers, and it's just a match made in heaven, to me, The inside can be a bit loud when it's packed, and it seems to have been packed on both my visits, but it's nothing crazy. Valet service at the front, unless you feel like driving next door for parking. MAKE A RESERVATION. It's easy to do and guarantees you a spot to eat. I don't usually mind a wait, but there's not any space to wait inside in the AC and in this heat, I couldn't imagine waiting outside for a table. But that's just me! I had a great time here, though I feel like it was very over hyped for what you actually get quality wise. Where we were sorted was right next to a bus station, so waiters were constantly bumping into the back of my chair. Our waiter was attentive at the beginning and then faded away as our meal went on. The whipped goat cheese tasted nothing of goat cheese and despite being a foam, it tasted like water. The veggies were super fresh and crisp. The potato wedges were the best thing we ate! Another miss was their mashed potatoes that came with the CFC they had so much bacon grease on top with the gravy that it was too oily and off putting, it didn't taste like bacon, it tasted like canola oil. The waiter told me the crab cake was going to be twice the size of what actually came out. It was very small for it to be an entree. Overall the atmosphere was great inside and out. They do have free valet as it is sharing its parking lot, be sure to bring cash to tip the valets! read more

Visited Star Rover for the first time. We tried their brunch menu and was pleasantly surprised. We were seated quickly upon arrival and our waiter was very attentive and responsive to our requests. The ambiance was nice and I'm not sure what was held over from the restaurant's time operating as Superica. I ordered the chorizo and egg tacos (8/10) and I really enjoyed the tacos. The salsa was a great pairing with just the right amount of spice. The cinnamon roll was amazing (10/10). I think that has set the bar for any cinnamon roll I'll ever get again! I will say it is a must-order when you go. We also ordered the coffee cake (7/10). The coffee cake had a bit of hard outer crust/shell, but the cake inside was warm and soft. Came for brunch on a Sunday. Definitely recommend making a reservation. I had to add myself to a waitlist to get the table I got lol. Waited probably 20 min even with our reservation. Our server was great! We got the biscuits to start and they were warm and flaky and yummy. We all had a variety of drinks- highlight was definitely the frospro tini- basically a frozen espresso martini. Most of us ordered the chicken fried chicken. They share a kitchen with La Lucha so you know the chicken was fire. One friend got the pancake and that was yummy as well I also came for dinner a few weeks later after hearing about their steak night. Same jist with the reservations. Had to wait for my table yet again for 20+ minutes- not a very good system. The food was good though. A bit pricey but you get a lot of food. It comes with a salad, fresh milk rolls, and a side of fries & onion rings. The portions are huge so I ended up taking half of mine home. Overall I like this restaurant. Their reservation system annoys me and they should really be better about having the tables ready ON time. Star Rover, Star Rover -- let David come over. I was sad when Superica closed, but happy with my first visit to Star Rover. The frozen espresso martini was a hit - especially in the hot Houston heat. The IYKYK appetizer was also solid. Entree-wise, you pretty much pick meat. The meat itself is good and they cook things to my preference. In addition to the entree, all meals come with salad and sides for the table. Service-wise, the staff are very attentive and friendly. They checked on us constantly and kept our drinks topped off. The place is family style and the ambiance is laid back. That means you can enjoy a steak while dressed like you're going to a neighborhood restaurant. Tried this spot out this past weekend and really enjoyed it! I was unsure about the attire - think red checked tablecloths but also steak dinner! I went with a cuter/upscale blue jean dress and it worked out perfectly. I had the frozen espresso martini, which was fabulous. Hit the spot on such a hot summer night. We were all pleasantly surprised to learn that each entree comes with rolls, salad, and fries and onion rings! It really made the meal, and everything was delicious. I went with the blackened redfish and think I had the best meal out of our group! The waitress recommended the ribeye, because she said it holds the most flavor. Randomly just decided to try this place on a Saturday night and fortunately we were able to sit at the bar for a full menu because there was no seating available. Initially, service and first impression, no so friendly, but maybe they were busy because after receiving drinks, the lady bartender that took over was extremely friendly, great personality and offering suggestions. Portions were all good size, we started with the shrimp cocktail and potato skins. I had seen someone said you couldn't not get the potato skins and they were right, very good with a crispy skin. My wife and I drove in from Katy to try this place for the first time, looking forward to trying something new. Overall, we had a decent experience, but there were a few things that kept this from being a 4- or 5-star visit. We didn't realize reservations were required/recommended for a table, so we ended up sitting at the bar. When we asked the hostess about the wait, we were told that all the tables were reserved and that we could sit at the bar if there were seats available. A little more information about the reservation policy would have been helpful. That said, Daniela was fantastic! She was friendly, personable, full of personality, and very helpful throughout our visit. We started with the recommended potato skins, and they were excellent. They were essentially small twice-baked potatoes loaded with toppings, and they definitely lived up to the recommendation. The salad was also very good. It was loaded with toppings, and the green goddess dressing added a great flavor. For our entrées, my wife had the skirt steak and I had the blackened redfish. The skirt steak was okay, but it wasn't the most tender skirt steak we've had, and it lacked seasoning. My wife ended up adding salt and pepper. The blackened redfish had very little blackened flavor and was quite dry inside, although it was still edible. The other issue was the wooden bar stools. They were simply not comfortable, especially for an entire meal. For us, the biggest factor in the 3-star rating was the price-to-food-quality ratio. At the price point, we expected the entrées to be considerably better. So, while the overall experience was mixed, there were definitely some highlights: Daniela, the potato skins, the salad, and the valet team all deserve 5 stars. My besties and I visited StarRover for the first time after seeing their Instagram content, and honestly, the food looked SO appetizing that I was really looking forward to trying it. The pancakes were at the very top of my list and honestly the main reason I wanted to go. Unfortunately, they didn't quite live up to the expectations created by the social media pictures. The pancake was dry, thick and didn't look or taste the way I expected based on what I had seen online. I also tried their Chicken Fried Chicken which was ok. Nothing bad, but nothing I would necessarily rave about either. Now let me talk about the CINNAMON ROLL. That thing was BOMB! I'd honestly give it an 8.5/10. Definitely the standout for me. Overall, the food just wasn't what I expected based on the hype and what I had seen on their Instagram. That said, THE SERVICE WAS EXCEPTIONAL! From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, the staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming and attentive. Everyone greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel welcomed. And a special shoutout to our waitress, Laila B! Laila was absolutely BOMB! She was patient, courteous, friendly and incredibly attentive throughout our entire visit. She made sure we had everything we needed, checked on us consistently and provided exceptional customer service. Brunch at Star Rover did not disappoint! I researched Houston food spots to find the best pancakes in town which led me to Star Rover. It's not easy getting a same day reservations however, I booked the day before today on open table for mid afternoon. The restaurant is a lot more spacious than I imagined. Parking is valet only but is complimentary. There's an outdoor patio and plenty of indoor seating. The decor and vibe feels retro. I felt like I was in a scene on the tv Young Sheldon. For drinks we ordered their house mimosas and the frozen expresso martini. Both of our drinks were very strong (it hits you after a while) ! For our meal we shared the Ranchers Breakfast, which came with two eggs, fried pork belly, hash browns, jalapeño sausage, refried beans and a pancake. This was such a hearty meal! My fiancé and I shared it and it was more than enough! I really enjoyed this meal as it was packed with so much flavor and so savory. This parking lot is a hassle with backed up traffic trying to get into the valet lot. The valet is at the entrance of the lot, holding up traffic with people trying to enter and exit their vehicles. Luckily the restaurant waiting area is comfortable, benches and pillows along with skee balls for entertainment on patio. We dropped by 40 minutes earlier than reservation time, hoping they could accommodate for party of three. We grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered oysters first. However, our table was ready as soon as the oysters were served 15 minutes later. We carried it to the table and finished it there while waiting for a server to drop by. The complimentary hot rolls are served drenched in a plate of butter, couldn't stop eating them. Service was quick, plenty of different staff members dropped by to check on us after ordering and throughout our meal. The unlimited French fries and onion rings are served hot and crispy, hard not to overeat otherwise there's no room for your entrees. Also comes with unlimited salad. We ordered to share: Dozen oysters - shucked fresh, comes with full back of saltine crackers and lemon halves. So good, must have if you like raw oysters on a half shell. 12 oz ribeye - for $69, I expected a thicker cut of quality meat. The center was juicy despite the thinness but the marbling had too much tendon and grit, couldn't chew around it and ended up wasting 1/4 of the steak. I ordered this with a side of the crab cake - this was loaded with tender crabmeat in every bite, love it! 7 oz skirt steak - best skirt steak I've had that wasn't served fajita style. Tender and nicely sliced. Brown Butter Saltine Crunch Soft Serve - this was the star of the dining experience. I cannot fully explain it, melts in your mouth goodness of flavors that are different than any other soft serves that I've had before. Must try! I would come back with a bigger party to try more variety of apps and entrees next time - considering the price point. I would consider rideshare to avoid the parking lot hassle. read more

My Birthday celebration at Star Rover turned out great! Our server did amazing taking of care our table of nine and the service was exceptional throughout the night. The complimentary salad, warm rolls, and sides were really thoughtful additions to the entrées. Since everyone at table was open to share, I had a chance to sample every dish that was ordered. Crab Cake and Chicken Fried Chicken were my least favorite. The highlights were the Filet and Ribeyes, both cooked perfectly medium and paring them with their signature A2 sauce took it to another level. I was surprised with not one, but two complimentary birthday desserts which was a very thoughtful gesture to capped off the evening. The meal end effortlessly with beautiful split checks for all of the guests. While I wouldn't call Star Rover a fine dining experience, the restaurant delivers everything you'd want for a well-rounded dinner with family and friends. For drinks, I got the Margarita with Tajin on the rim (pretty strong, but small). All mains include a house salad (big portion), Butter Bread Rolls (wow super buttery and fluffy and crispy on the outside, reminded me a little bit of salt bread) and Fries/Onion Ring basket (crispy fries/good thickness, the onion rings weren't my favorite batter, it was okay). Ambiance of the place is amazing. Traditional old hill country Texas decor and sounds of Kenny Rogers in the background. Get there early as it gets busy fast. Reservations are recommended. We ordered coffee and the skillet cinnamon roll to start. The cinnamon roll comes out hot with fresh dolloped icing on top. The icing slowly starts to melt all over the cinnamon roll and over the sides of the skillet. Amazing. We got an order of a hotcakes and the steak and eggs. The steak was so flavorful and had a great crust on it. Good traditional hashbrowns on the side. Pancakes were huge and cooked well. The only downside of the pancakes was the syrup that came with it. I think it was homemade, but it was grainy and not smooth like you would expect from a typical syrup. Not for me. Overall, really great breakfast and great experience. This is only a partial review, focused on brunch. The restaurant is located right next to La Lucha and shares a parking lot with it. Weekend brunch parking can get crowded, but there is additional parking within walking distance. In my opinion, the brunch menu was a little limited, but the overall experience was enjoyable. The service was good, and the manager did a great job accommodating our large group and keeping everyone seated close together. The ambiance was nice and gave me a retro vibe, which added to the experience. The rolls were buttery goodness, served hot with a delicious honey glaze on the side. They were one of the highlights of the meal. The potato dish was also very good--more like a twice-baked potato than a traditional breakfast potato. It was loaded with bacon and cheese and drizzled with sour cream. The accompanying dip tasted like a green goddess dressing and paired nicely with the dish. The breakfast taco was fine, although I would have preferred strips of bacon rather than the bacon preparation that was used. The Old Fashioned was made to perfection, with just the right balance and not too much bitterness. Overall, everything was satisfying and filling. Food and service don't match the price point. This is Texas, so steak needs to be SUPERB. We had a sleepy server who would have loved to be anywhere but here at this cool concept. The menu is very straightforward - can literally just point at a picture of your desired protein and the rest is taken care of but would have appreciated someone to give an overview of the dinner pacing. The complimentary appetizers/sides are a nice touch. The milk rolls are yummy once you let the oil drip off - can make you slightly nauseous if you don't like your mouth filled with excess oil. The green goddess salad was very yummy. Overdressed but I could have drank the dressing. Unsure if these are unlimited refill, but I would have ordered more of the salad. We ordered the t-bone and chicken fried chicken. My fault for ordering chicken at a steak-focused restaurant, but I've had better fried chicken from actual diners. Star Rover replaced our beloved SUPERICA Tex Mex so we had to try it! They had very old school country diner decor and the vibes were cute. Reservations were already booked from 5-8:30 on a Tuesday, so glad they're booked and busy but wow! So we got sat the bar and got food and drinks. The bartender/server was so incredibly kind and took great care of us. We were able to split a whole steak between the two of us, and it came with 3 rounds of sides-- rolls, salad, onion rings and potato wedges. Cost was about $70ish for us! Not sure if this style or food is for us as I can't tell if it's marketed as casual or high end steakhouses but it's a nicer place for a casual bite for sure. In and out in 40 minutes. read more

Had a great experience here this weekend! It was my first time eating here since the rebranding. The concept at Star Rover is one of a kind - you order an entree (beef, chicken, or fish) and it includes buttered rolls, a salad, and a generous order of fries AND onion rings. You can't beat that in this economy!! The salad was crisp & fresh, the dressing & croutons were homemade and so so good! The steak was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy, and the onion rings were honestly some of the best I've had in a long time. The frozen espresso martini was also a standout -- strong, flavorful, and a fun twist on the classic version. One thing to note: this place gets BUSY on Saturday evenings. The wait time was an hour long, so I definitely recommend making reservations ahead of time. Fortunately, we ended up snagging 2 seats at the bar and were able to cut our wait time in half. Ambiance was interesting; there were games set up on the patio where young kids were playing while the parents watched from their tables. Inside, the crowd was more mature. Stopped by on a Sunday without a reservation and was lucky to grab a patio seat - would recommend a reservation on high traffic days. We had the frozen espresso martini, the Fancy LITT (Long Island) and s house chardonnay. Enjoyed all - but martini was our favorite. We had the biscuits and homemade strawberry jam...YES. Advice - ask for a side of their sausage gravy. Also, the table next to us ordered the cinnamon roll and split it between 4 - they were super happy with their choice. We ordered the Migas, side of hash browns with everything added, sausage and a side fried egg. We shared everything and were very happy with our choices. Brunch review only. Star Rover is a shadow of the previous Superica, which was one of our favorite weekend brunch haunts for the past year. This newly branded concept is all flash and significantly less substance. The decor has changed to include checkered tablecloths covering the previous wood and monotone dishware from the fun texmex. Service was fine, a little disorganized but improving. The complimentary dreamily-thin tortilla chips and delicious salsas are no longer served. The menu has significantly decreased in size for brunch, with now a handful of sweet options, some breakfast tacos, and a few higher end entrees. There are still à la carte items, but fewer than before. Breakfast tacos: Mediocre with somewhat doughy tortillas, pretty greasy chorizo, and lackluster shredded cheese. I also wasn't a fan of the paper ketchup container holding salsa, as it was difficult to pour and easier to smear. This breakfast taco was incredibly forgettable. Cinnamon rolls in a skillet: Cute concept, over the top preparation. The cinnamon rolls were absolutely drowned in butter, so much so I had to tear off the top to get any portions that weren't soggy. There was also so much cream cheese icing it was essentially all I could taste. When I actually tasted a bit of the cinnamon roll, the flavor and rise on it was pretty good. The middle portions were slightly underbaked, though some may prefer the more gooey texture. Biscuits and jam: Carried over from neighbor La Lucha, these biscuits and preserves are still dang good. Buttery, decadent biscuits with homemade strawberry preserves will always be a temptation for me. Hash browns: Super oily and didn't taste fresh. Also somehow comes with a slice of semi-melted cheese on top? Pass. Bacon: Still as good as previously, with a perfect thickness and nice chew yet still crispy along the edges. Thank goodness. Pancakes: Superica's hotcakes were a must-order every brunch meal. The flavor is similar, but the impressive size has now shrunk to normal pancake size and significantly decreased the novelty. I was told they would be fluffier, but after trying them a few times, I don't think there's a real difference. The warm syrup is still good. I had high hopes for Star Rover, but I don't know that I'll be back. Based on other reviews, dinner doesn't seem promising either. Superica, you are sorely missed. read more

Why 5 stars? Because I love the mix of casual and non. --- --- --- The concept of Star Rover is great: it's kind of an old school steakhouse, where you can order a $62 ribeye, but looking around the dining area, many people are in hats and shorts. Speaking of, I kind of skipped ahead in the story, but the idea here is that they have 9 main entrees on the menu and they all just come with the same sides: a salad, bread, fries and onion rings. The salad and the bread were top notch. I hate bleu cheese so I kept that on the side, but the green goddess dressing it comes with was great. It was a big salad too. The bread is covered in 58 ounces of butter, and swimming in it too. I could eat 100 of these rolls. My ribeye came out, and sadly, it was obviously very overcooked. I took about 3 bites and was really disappointed by it. I eventually had to just ask them for a new one, and I absolutely never do that. They couldn't have been more gracious about it though, and the second version was so, so much better. There is some kind of green substance on top of it, which I assumed was chimichurri, but it didn't really taste like it, so then I assumed it was something else. But later, I had a really heavy garlic taste in my mouth, so I think it was indeed, the chimi. The fries and onion rings were good, but my wife and I both felt like it was just a lot of fried food in the end. Not that anyone was forcing us to almost finish the plate, but if you put fries and onion rings in front of me, what do you think is gonna happen? We finished with some soft serve and pie. I ordered coconut, which was good, but incredibly super sweet to the point where it was almost too much. The ice cream hit the spot perfectly. We want to come back again for brunch! Everything here is well done. Steak is good though would prefer it not to be drown in butter. Rolls are soft and warm, fries and onion rings fried to perfection. The potato skins were much more like twice baked but still very good. Apple pie was delicious and a nice way to end the meal. Service was silvery lovely. read more

You get a taste of the amazing service to come from the people at the host station and the bar. This is carried over to your waitperson. We started with one of their signature cocktails soaking in the rustic/charming, yet sophisticated setting. Well crafted and delicious! Then came the food. Star Rover approach to dinner makes decision making a breeze. Basically choose your protein and how you'd like it prepared. All automatically come with a fresh house salad, "stupidly" amazing rolls, and the best French fries and onion rings you'll ever taste. Did I mention that these are bottomless?!? Not that you will order more as the portions are not small and well prepared. They do have appetizers as well. I recommend the potato skins. We had a spectacular dinner here on their second night open. They really stay true to their mission of making the steakhouse attainable again with a casual welcoming atmosphere that still feels elevated and special in its experience. Prepare to leave stuffed to the gills as the food here is excellent and portions are huge. They are very generous in the included side salad, onion rings, fries, and bread so you will absolutely be full and satisfied when you leave all for a great fair price. We started with the servers recommended appetizer of potato skins that come with a really great jalapeño ranch dipping sauce. We then shared several of the entrée is including the T-bone steak, ribeye, and chicken fried chicken. All were cooked exactly as ordered and the CFC gravy had a really nice kick to it. We then finished the meal with their soft serve ice cream as we all know that dessert goes into a second stomach. Several nice cocktails and cheap beer on draft rounded out the meal. Worst experience ever in a Houston restaurant! Our server was terrible. I thought it was just our table but as I saw her interact with others it became obvious that maybe she didn't like certain customers. Every time I wanted something I had to ask. She didn't ask if I wanted a drink, I had to ask her if I could order a drink. When we asked for plates for the apps when she brought one plate for two people. When I asked for syrup to take with my pancake she said "they throw it away". So I asked another server and they brought me two small containers of syrup! So she lied. And i knew she did. I left the syrup on my box for her to see and she had the biggest smirk when she saw it. Not sure what her deal was but she ruined our entire experience! So disappointed because this place had been on my list and it was so cute! read more

I got the Rancher's Breakfast. All the savory items were delicious! But that pancake just wasn't it. The syrup had to do all the heavy lifting because the pancake had no flavor. I will say the crispy edges were nice but the lack of sweetness was unforgivable. While the pancake wasn't a hit, our server Jello was amazing!! He was attentive and very accommodating. I was in a rush my first time going (have a movie showing 45 mins after I walked in) so I didn't get a chance to try different foods and finish all my food at the restaurant. I will definitely be back though. The customer service was cool and the food was good. Superica rebranded and now we are gifted this throwback West Texas steak dinner dive. Star Rover puts you in a different place and time with the red checkered table cloth and red tinted lighting dominating the tone setting portions of the meal. There's full bar with equally matched themeing and a mostly covered outdoor patio that has skeeball. The staff is dressed approachably in t-shirts and jeans and our waitress did a good job handling a table of 7 adults plus 2 babies. She got us through the meal with the level of cared I would hope for in a full service restaurant. The food here plays it straight. The menu is about a half dozen beef steaks with a couple other proteins for you to choose from for variety. All dinners come with the dinner rolls, puffy and hot traditional white bread served on a plate of hot melted butter. You'll also get with every dinner the house salad, a generous portion of iceberg lettuce lathered up with green goddess style dressing and strips of cucumber. Lastly your meal included half and half fries and onion rings, remarkably crunchy and salty and just the perfect pairing for steak almost always. I went with the ribeye for a first visit, and my medium rare order was honored with a perfect cook, and the steak was topped with an herb butter that enhanced the total richness to near breaking point. I think they lack some premium level options, not expecting Japanese A5 to be flown in daily, but I would've loved to have had some choices for dry aged cuts or American style prime/wagyu. $65 dollars for the ribeye feels kinda steep for unknown quality beef. Back half of the menu is devoted to cocktails, I settled for the Perfect Manhattan, which really didn't do anything for me compared to something I could make quickly at home. For $13 I think it's fairly priced as well as the other on menu cocktails, but it felt lower ABV than I expected. I see they have a weekend brunch that I'm think about trying soon, so at least one planned revisit is in the works. This concept is lovely for the ladies out there who are a big fan of GirlDinner, and as I am married to one of those types I can see us coming back for dinner too! read more

The meal began with decadent rolls that were absolutely smothered in butter and Maldon salt. Then came the house salads that were dressed with green goddess and blue cheese crumbles. The perfect cold plate and cleanser after the rolls. Then came the bottomless fries and onion rings, which were incredibly crunchy and fried to perfection. I ordered the Seared Redfish which was buttery and spiced to perfection. The chef sent out an additional complimentary piece of redfish because he felt mine wasn't big enough. (It made a fabulous lunch the next day) Lastly, came the apple pie served al a mode, we inhaled it so fast I couldn't even pause to get a picture. It was warm, fresh, flaky, and was complimented beautifully by the rich and creamy soft serve it came with. Everything was phenomenal, I'll be back again and again and again. read more
